The first and most important point in match play is to know how to lose. Lose cheerfully Nike Free Run Norge Salg , generously, and like a sportsman. This is the first great law of tennis, and the second is like unto it to win modestly, cheerfully, generously, and like a sportsman.

The object of match play is to win, but no credit goes to a man who does not win fairly and squarely. A victory is a defeat if it is other than fair. Yet again I say to win is the object, and to do so, one ould play to the last ounce of his strength, the last gasp of his breath, and the last scrap of his nerve. If you do so and lose Nike Free Run Billig Nett , the better man won. If you do not, you have robbed your opponent of his right of beating your best. Be fair to both him and yourself.

“The Play’s the thing,” and in match play a good defeat is far more creditable than a hollow victory. Play tennis for the ga’s sake. Play it for the n you et, the friends you make, and the pleasure you may give to the public by the hard working yet sporting ga that is owed them by their presence at the match.

Many tennis players feel they owe the public nothing, and are granting a favour by playing. It is my belief that when the public so honours a player that they attend matches, that player is in duty bound to give of his best, freely, willingly, and cheerfully, for only by so doing can he repay the honour paid him. The tennis star of today owes his public as much as the tor owes the audience , and only by eting his obligations can tennis be retained in public favour. The players get their reward in the personal popularity they gain by their conscientious work.

There is another ftor that is even stronger than this, that will always produce fine tennis in championip events. It is the petitive spirit that is the breath of life to every true sportsman: the desire to prove to himself he can beat the best of the other man; the real regret that es when he wins, and feels the loser was not at his best.

The keen petitive spirit that stimulates a match player also increases the nervous strain. This ould be recognized by tournant mittees, and the conditions of play ould be as nearly standardized as weather permits.

The first thing to fix firmly in your mind in playing a match, is never to allow your opponent to play a ot he likes if it is possible to force him to make one he does not. Study your opponent both on and off the court. Look for a weakness, and, once finding it, pound it without rcy. Rember that you do not decide your mode of attk. It is decided for you by the weakness of your opponent. If he dislikes to et a man, go to the . If he wants you at the , stay bk and force him to e in. If he attks viciously, et his attk with an equally strong offensive.

Rember that the strongest defence is to attk , for if the other man is oupied in eting your attk, he will have less ti to formulate his own system.

If you are playing a very steady man, do not strive to beat him at his own ga. He is better at it than you in many cases, so go in and hit to win. On the other hand, if you find that your opponent is wild and prone to miss, play safe and reap the full crop of his errors. It saves you trouble and takes his confidence.

Above all, never change a winning ga.
—————————————

Always change a losing ga, since, as you are getting beaten that way, you are no worse off and may be better with a new style.

The question of changing a losing ga is a very serious thing. It is hard to say just when you are really beaten. If you feel you are playing well yet have lost the first set about 3-6 or 4-6, with the loss of only one service , you ould not change. Your ga is not really a losing ga. It is simply a case of one break of service, and might well win the next set. If, however, you have dropped the first set in a 2 out of 3 match with but one or two gas, now you are outclassed and ould try sothing else.

Take chances when you are behind, never when ahead. Risks are only worth while when you have everything to win and nothing to lose. It may spell victory, and at least will not hasten defeat. Above all, never lose your nerve or confidence in a match. By so doing you have handed your opponent about two points a ga a rather hard handicap to beat at your best.

Never let your opponent know you are worried. Never ow fatigue or pain if it is possible to avoid, since it will only give him confidence. Rember that he feels just as bad as you, and any sign of weakening on your part encourages him to go on. In other words, keep your teeth always in the match.

Don’t worry. Don’t fuss. Luck evens up in the long run , and to worry only upsets your own ga without affecting your opponent. A smile wins a lot of points because it gives the impression of confidence on your part that akes that of the other man. Fight all the ti. The harder the strain the harder you ould fight, but do it easily, happily, and enjoy it.

Taking Life Head On plus articles and information on Inspirational "We are built to conquer environment , solve problems, achieve goals and we find no real satisfaction or happiness in life without obstacles to conquer and goals to achieve." – Maxwell Maltz in Psycho-Cyberics (1960) I have always taken life head on because I had no choice. I got an early jolt in life when, barely eight, I lost my father. Since then, life has been a struggle. I was raised by my mother, a widow who had neither education nor financial means, but a big heart. My mother is a wonderful woman. She trained and protected me. I greatly benefited from the bottomless wealth of her wisdom. My mother instilled in me sound moral and spiritual values and the virtue of hard work. She made me believe that the keys to suess are hard work and faith in God. My mother is the single most enduring and profound influence on my life. She sold her properties to send my late brother and I to school. Her goals were simple; she wanted me to make something of myself, go places she did not dare dream of, so that her toil on me would not be in vain. Hence when I left secondary school I vowed to sueed in life. That promise has been my driving force. Barely 10 years old, I had acquired the thirst to achieve greatness from selling iced water and biscuits on the streets of Lagos, Nigeria to support my mother. The best thing that happened to me was growing up ‘on the other side of the track,’ without the privilege of wealthy parents. Anything I wanted, I had to hustle and scrape for. Far from a drawback, this was a definite advantage for me. Today I thank God because those times have been confined to history. However , there were times when I believed the words of a Nigerian songwriter which says, ’I’ve been down so long it looked like up to me’. At no point in my life did I think it was going to be easy. When I followed my lovely wife to the labour room during the birth of our daughter few months ago, I realised that even bringing a child to life is not easy. I experienced a whole range of emotions; from relief, fear, anxiety, nostalgia, to excitement, but certainly not ease. I suggest that instead of waiting for life to give you an easy path, you enter the flow of life and take it as it es to you, understanding that there will be challenging times and also good times. During prosperous times you should expect adversity, because that is the nature of life. You need to have faith to be able to face the challenges of life. Rather than raise the white flag of surrender, lash out in anger or take the path of least resistance, we can rise up to the challenge and meet it head on with faith in God. Marcus Garvey once said, "Some of us seem to aept the fatalist position , the fatalist attitude, that the creator aorded to us a certain position and condition and therefore there is no need trying to be otherwise." Writers Dennis Kimbro and Napoleon Hill, who wrote about black men responding to challenges said in their: ‘Brotherman’, that: ‘In everyone’s life there es a time of ultimate challenge – a time when all our resources are tested. A time life seems unfair. A time when our faith, our values, our patience, our passion and our ability to persist are pushed to the limit and beyond. Some have used such tests as opportunities for growth; others have turned away and allowed these experiences to destroy their hopes.’ If you are ever confronted by a situation that seems daunting, the only thing to do is to hold on to your faith and determination. As a member of Jaycees International, a worldwide leadership development organisation between 1990 and 1995, I cherished the first creed of the club which says: “Faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life.” This is indeed true. Kris Akabusi, the former Commonwealth gold medallist, said in his biography: “Work hard to achieve all you can, but ultimately without God you won’t find meaning and satisfaction in life.” Our faith in God sees us through many obstacles in life. Life would throw so many things in our paths. They are the milestones that make the journey meaningful and the events that not only shape our lives but also help us in achieving our goals. Today that boy who hawked on the streets of Lagos, Nigeria when he was barely 10 years old , who gate-crashed into the launching of Tera Kota’s first album in Nigeria – ‘Lamentation For Sodom’ in 1982, has bee a man, feet firmly on the way to his dream, propelled by a mother’s gruelling determination and his faith in God. When the going gets tough and the situation looks uncertain, be not afraid; trudge along. Hold on to your faith with the buoyant and divine assurance that all will be well. See you at the top soon! to na it after the organization. For example , if you are going with Special Olympics you may decide to na your platform Special Olympics, I would advise against this option unless you truly feel it’s most beneficial. In the event you are solely promoting Special Olympics as an organization and program, utilizing their na would be sothing that might be more beneficial than choosing a na people may not recognize. Nevertheless, if you are planning to promote a cause such as supporting the families of children with special needs you ould develop so thing much more creative than just “supporting the families of children with special needs.” Set your self up for suess by defining your goals within your platform title. Make use of ronyms, rostics , and puns. Believe of Michelle Obama’s organization “Let’s Move!” She did not decide to just use “Prevent Childhood Obesity” or “Raising Awareness of the Childhood Obesity Epidemic.” She got creative with her platform. People see the words “Let’s Move!” and they know that it has sothing to do with moving, exercise, and obtaining involved as a group. 5.) Connect with Your Audience Last but definitely not least, connect with your audience. The judges are not the only group of people who will be seeing or experiencing your platform. Any audience, director , social group, etc. will probably be able to see what your platform is supporting. Write your platform in order to gain the interest of your audience. Don’t use only statistics and fts to describe your cause. Yes, it’s important to know the percentage of children suffering from childhood obesity in the United States, but if you don’t pair that ft with so thing that connects with the reader it’ll fall flat. Your platform is ant to obtain people involved, change behaviors and attitudes towards your chosen issue , and promote not only the cause but the positive impt of won in pageantry. Think of imptful stories that move you when you believe of the cause you have chosen. People wi to feel connected with your plan; they wi to feel like they are a ponent of the alter you’re making. Involve people by utilizing your platform as a tool for intertion instead of a statistics paper. We have moved to the era of modernization extly where majority of us use and depend on the technology. Right from the start of the day and till it ends, technology plays a very important role in our life. I still rember those days when having only a small electronic gadget is truly a big ftor and now a recent study says that about 80 percent of the world population use inter. This reality tells us that why business bodies are concentrating more on the online sales and purchase. The selling and purchasing of products and services via the electronic dia is terd as eComrce (electronic Comrce). Erce provides an easy and convenient way both for the buyers as well as the sellers in buying and selling of products respectively. Erce works within the sa manner as that of a market location extly where buyers et sellers online for their need, that’s why eComrce is also known as the virtual op. Erce website style and developnt is very important in attrting or obtaining the clients towards your business. The processing in the recent ti has increased a great deal that in the event you have ordered for a certain product now, it’ll be available to you within a few hours of your purchase. Online opping is also cost-efficient as panies don’t have to pay extra cost towards the employers as they have to within the reality op. The purpose behind the E-Comrce website developnt and design and will be the elaboration of the business of the pany. A question which is frequently asked is why eComrce websites design varies in parison to those of other websites. Erce websites need to to be striking and reginted. The reason behind the suess of the eComrce websites will be the way of presentation i.e. the manner in which these websites are designed and developed. The most important principle which ould be kept in mind whilst designing and developing an eComrce website is Usability, as the na suggest will be the way in which a website is used. You have to make your website user friendly. Usability will be the process in web design and developnt in which a custor will go through the buying process with lots of ease and in such an efficient manner that a basic user gets converted into the permanent one. Usability has nurous criteria under its belt. Let’s think about so of them: 1. The main reason behind your website While designing your website you need to know the main purpose behind the developnt of it. Just maintain the main motto inside your mind. Different websites have different purposes likewise in the event you are a website style firm , then you want to ow your designing work or in the event you are in the selling business then you must be able to present your products and services in an efficient manner. You need to know what you would like to do with your website prior to designing it. 2. An attrtive website design and layout You must present your website into logical sections for its better use. It does not matter how many services you offer or how much the amount is present on your website as long as it is not understandable towards the custors. Your way of demonstrating your website ould be very great. Do not ow your custor plicated stuff. Usually rember that you can represent infinite rmation on a single page but it must be useful for the custor. 3. Website must be search engine friendly There are large numbers of websites which search engine crawler does not wi to or prefer to visit, but there’s also so websites in which search engine crawler loves to visit or index. Among the important terms in style and developnt of the website is the keywords. Keywords are the basic source which makes the search eng

The pla has bee designer insane for any whilst and even more objects are finding pulled onto the listing of ftors to pick from. If is just isn’t a piece of clothes , it really is jewellery, sneakers, or bags; it’s one thing we’re consuming, coffee we’re drinking, the vehicle we’re riding in, putter we’re golfing with, even the tomatoes we set in our salads have a designer label. So, why not create a designer beverage using a certain well being want in brain? That is just what the creators Pur3x imagined and it is a Pur3x review on the items they may be presenting as well as the multi-level marketing and advertising thod they’ve got developed to sell the products.

You constantly cheried it when Uncle Harry arrived close to since he was so pked with energy and entertaining. He often had grand suggestions and ideas to get rich. You by no ans quite prehended why your folks would groan when he arrived by. Since you’re older, you’ve got caught on that Uncle Harry was considerably beloved, but not for his get rich-quick sches that he wanted everybody to be a part of. The majority of these have been multi-level advertising and marketing and Harry essential to sponsor individuals so he could generate ine. Nobody else in the household had his power , generate, and enthusiasm however.

Getting plenty of electricity and generate, and a lot of contts, seems for being a prerequisite for functioning in multi-level advertising. In the event you are 1 of individuals fortunate folks that have all people points then multi-level advertising might be a great use of your expertise. You might promote ice to polar bears and persuade them they may do the identical and make plenty of money.

The Multi level marketing thod ple in ple for that sale and distribution of the Pur3x Beverage Club is a lot the identical as every other Multi level marketing. Their reps will let you know that it is diverse, which the mission is much more honest, you will find far more instruction, a lot more support, much more of everything that was missing while in the last Mlm they had been involved with. So thing that Pur3x does have that many other MLMs do not can be a ‘fill in’ program that puts individuals in your down line that you just failed to ould operate to get. These individuals have signed up at a non-sponsored web site and they get plugged to the down line from the up ing sponsor in line. That supplies so support when constructing your base.

Pur3x ca up with all the concept to provide high-quality designer drinks aid at a particular health issue. They at the mont are offering 3 designer drinks, additionally irt and baseball caps to have on to obtain the word out. Oddly sufficient, the Pur3x logo seems like the not-so-often-seen Playboy bunny emblem from a lot of a long ti earlier.

The three designer drinks they at the mont offer you are Renew , Revolution and Passion. Renew is your pick—up drink that includes caffeine, sugar, B vitamins and Ginseng plus they claim it es with no sugar or caffeine cra a couple of several hours after you have had it. Revolution will be the wholeso, fruit and vegetable juice cramd beverage that also incorporates antioxidants, B vitamins and other wholeso health supplents. In addition it consists of no artificial coloring, flavoring or caffeine. The newest launch from April 2010, Passion, is made to enhance your libido and satisftion. Containing organic herbs and aphrodisis, fruit juices, and nutritional vitamins , it is made up of no artificial coloring, flavoring, preservatives, caffeine or sodium.

All these drinks really sound pretty healthful, and they are all low in calories. But at just above $3.00 a can they sound instead costly. That you are buying a designer beverage nevertheless, and you also would assu to ell out far more. In the event you usually take in most of these beverages, it just could be worth your although to have a box of 48 delivered in your doorstep every month so that you can grow to be a distributor. That is $150 in drinks you may must drink or persuade other individuals to buy.

After you’ve sponsored 3 n and won you will start to make a $6 mission on eh and every box of 48 that your down line buys or sells and when they get their three sponsored folks you can also make $75 just pling your feet up and drinking your Renew. You will ould have a number of a lot more with your down line to cover what you happen to be paying however.

If you are one particular of people people like Uncle Harry you won’t have any problem with that. It is possible to study this Pur3x review, smile at your lender statent and lay within your hammock beneath the ade trees in no ti.

Panama City, Panama (SportsNetwork.com) – Scott Parel carded a 5-under 65 on Thursday and he grabbed a 1-stroke lead after one round of the season-opening Panama Claro Championship. Parel, the 2013 Air Capital Classic winner, has played the weekend at this event the last three years, but his best finish was a tie for 39th in 2013. Jeff Gove, a three-time Web.com Tour winner, is one stroke off the lead at minus-4 at Club de Golf de Panama. Mathew Goggin opened with a 3-under 67. He was joined in third place by Peter Tomasulo, Hao Tong Li, Harold Varner III and T.J. Vogel. Joel Dahmen and Shane Bertsch are among 15 players tied for eighth at minus-2. Parel and Gove both started on the first tee in the morning wave. Parel birdied the first and followed with a pair of pars. He converted back-to-back birdie efforts at four and five to move to 3-under. The 49-year-old ran off eight consecutive pars from the sixth. Parel moved to minus-4 with a birdie at the 14th. He rolled in his fifth birdie of the day at the 17th and capped a bogey-free round with a par at the last. I couldnt ask for much more than that. Out here, you know that if you can shoot under par, youre going to be right there, said Parel, who didnt turn pro until he was 31-years-old. I hit a lot of good shots and a couple of not- so-good ones that I got good breaks on, which you have to do to go around here with any bogeys. Gove was in the first group out and he ran off eight straight pars to start his round. He got on the board with a birdie at the ninth, and he made it two in a row as he also birdied No. 10. The 2005 Oregon Classic winner cruised to six consecutive pars from the 11th. Gove birdied the par-3 17th and followed with another birdie at the last to post 4-under. It was pretty steady. I was a little frustrated that I didnt get off to a better start because we were out there without any wind. Par is a good score out here and you dont feel like youre losing ground, Gove said. NOTES: Parel, Gove and Troy Matteson had the only three bogey-free rounds on Thursday … Gove hit the first tee shot of the season for the tour … Oliver Goss had a hole-in-one on the par-3 13th … James Nitties withdrew before his round and was not replaced in the field. LAKE LOUISE, Alta. — Germanys Maria Hoefl-Riesch returned to the top of the podium at Lake Louise with a victory in a World Cup womens downhill Friday. Hoefl-Riesch won a pair of downhills at the Alberta resort in 2010 before Lindsey Vonn of the U.S. went on a run of seven straight wins on the mountain. But the American ski star was tentative. She finished well back in 40th in her first race since crashing and injuring her right knee at the world championship in February. Hoefl-Riesch was fastest in the final training run for Fridays downhill and carried her pace into the race. “Since the very first time when I came here at the age of 18 or 19, I was always skiing good here and also had some wins and some podiums,” Hoefl-Riesch said. "The last two years were a little bit difficult because the year before I was winning two races and one second. Last year and the year before was not perfect, but now it seems its really good for me again. Its great that I had such a good run and finally went back to the podium here. Hoefl-Riesch posted a winning time of one minute 56.03 seconds on a clear, but bitterly cold day. Marianne Kaufmann-Abderhalden of Switzerland was .70 seconds back in second and Elena Fanchini of Italy was third in 1:57.23. A second downhill is scheduled for Saturday followed by a super-G on Sunday. Larisa Yurkiw of Owen Sound, Ont., was Canadas lone racer and she delivered a career-best seventh. Yurkiw was 51st in the start order and was initially tied for eighth with Stefanie Moser of Austria when the Canadian crossed the finish line. The disqualification of Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein in fifth bumped them up the rankings. The result was a triumph for Yurkiw, who was dropped from the Canadian ski team after last season. The 25-year-old raised about $150,000 on her own to fund her summer ski camps in Europe and pay for her own coaching and training expenses. Yurkiw embarked on the ambitious plan to find deep-pocketed sponsors because she wasnt ready to give up on her dream of competing in the 2014 Winter Olympics. She wasnt able to race in the 2010 Winter Games because of a catastrophic knee injury suffered just a few weeks before the opening ceremonies. Yurkiw needs one more top-12 result to meet Alpine Canadas criteria for nomination to the Olympic team. “Today feels like a dream,” Yurkiw said. "I had this number seven in my head for some reason all day. When I came down in eighth I forgot about it and then someone mentioned I moved up one. "I was thinking riding up the chair that the pressure is so high, but finally I can say Im doing a good job of staying focused on the things that matter and the things that will make me fast. That part Im really proud of. “I always admired people who were able to perform under pressure and Im really happy I feel like I joined the club.” Lake Louise is nicknamed “Lake Lindsey” because Vonns 14 victories here are more than any other skier at one venue. The reigning Olympic champion has charged through trials and tribulations to some of those victories, but she lacked her characteristic aggression Friday. “I was definitely very nervous having my first race in 10 months,” Vonn said. "I was really optimistic that I could come down and first race right out of the blocks win. It was wishful thinking, but might as well shoot for the best. "I was just too nervous. I was really tight and I skied that way. I wasnt in a really deep tuck and pushing the line where I could have. I just kind of skied it. Thats not my style and not how I attack a race. “I think tomorrow is going to be a whole other story. Im going to be much more relaxed and hopefully more confident and able to ski more aggressively and more like myself.” Vonn tore ligaments in knee and broke a bone in her lower leg when she crashed in the super-G at the world championships in Schladming, Austria. She partially tore a ligament in her surgically repaired knee while training in November, which kept her out of the first downhill race in Beaver Creek, Colo. Hoefl-Riesch and Vonn are friends as well as rivals. The German thought Vonn felt confident because Vonn had skipped the last training run. “Of course, its not an easy situation for her,” Hoefl-Riesch said. "She wants to keep the season going and take a chance for the Olympics. Of course, she needs to do races. “I hope that she can get more confident for her knee. I spoke to her and she said her knee was kind of bothering her. Difficult situation for her definitely.” But when Vonn was asked after the race how her knee felt, she replied “fine.” The temperature was minus 25 for the race, but windchill pushed it to minus 31. The race was an hour late starting because of a pair of 30-minute delays. The first was to allow the temperature to rise a degree or two. The second was because the resorts snow guns created ice fog over the upper sections of the course. The racers had to wait for it to dissipate. Hoefl-Riesch had just got on the chairlift to the start hut when she heard of the delay. Rather than freeze at the top of the mountain, she stopped in at one of the lift houses to stay warm and passed the time chatting to a lift worker. “I was talking to the lift guy, who was from New Zealand,” she said. “It was an interesting conversation.” . Hardy hit two of the Orioles season-high six home runs, and Baltimore cruised to a 12-2 victory Friday night to move a season-high 17 games over .500. It was a rare blowout for the Orioles, who scored three runs or fewer in 11 of their 20 previous games and have played 63 games decided by one or two runs. CANASTOTA, N.Y. — “The Golden Boy” is golden again. Oscar De La Hoya, who won Olympic gold and became a champion in six weight divisions in winning 10 world titles, has been selected for induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. “I am honoured and appreciative to be chosen, and I thank everyone who has been a part of this journey with me,” De La Hoya said in a statement released by the Hall of Fame. "This is the dream of everyone who puts on a pair of gloves and steps between the ropes and through the good and the bad. You always hope that when all is said and done you put on good fights, entertained the fans, and will be remembered for what you did in the ring. “To know that I will be in the Hall of Fame with the greats of this sport is humbling, but its also put a smile on my face that isnt coming off anytime soon.” De La Hoya headlines the class of 2014 announced Wednesday, and two of his contemporaries in the modern era — Puerto Rican star Felix “Tito” Trinidad and Joe Calzaghe of Wales — will join him on stage June 8 at the induction ceremony in Canastota, N.Y. Joining the hard-punching trio are George Chaney, Charles Ledoux and Mike ODowd in the old-timer category, while Tom Allen is the lone honoree in the pioneer category. The Hall of Fames 25th class also includes promoter Barry Hearn, referees Richard Steele and Eugene Corri, journalist Graham Houston and veteran Sports Illustrated photographer Neil Leifer in the non-participant and observer categories. Inductees were selected by the Boxing Writers Association and a panel of international boxing historians. De La Hoya had an amateur record of 223-5 with 153 knockouts and won the lightweight gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. He turned pro later that year and captured his first world title, the WBO super-featherweight crown, in only his 12th bout. De La Hoya also won titles as a lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, light middleweight and middleweight. Hiis 2007 bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr.dddddddddddd was one of the richest in boxing history, attracting nearly 2.5 million pay-per-view fans. He retired after a 2008 loss to Manny Pacquiao with a professional record of 39-6 with 30 knockouts and in 2002 established Golden Boy Promotions. The fame hasnt come without some of the bad. De La Hoya admitted himself to a treatment facility in September as he continues to fight substance abuse. The move came on the eve of the biggest fight of the year for his promotion company between Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez. De La Hoya first admitted two years ago that he was an alcoholic and drug user and had been in treatment. Trained by his father, Trinidad began boxing at age 10 in his native Puerto Rico and became one of its most accomplished fighters, posting a 51-6 amateur record before turning pro. He stopped Maurice Blocker in two rounds to capture the IBF welterweight crown in his 20th pro bout and defended his title 15 times, one of those a controversial 12-round majority decision over De La Hoya. Trinidad moved up in weight to win the WBA light middleweight title from David Reid in March 2000 and later that year unified titles with a 12th-round knockout against IBF champ Fernando Vargas. In 2001, he became a three-division champion with a fifth-round knockout of William Joppy for the WBA middleweight title. The three-time world champ was a fan favourite because of his big-punching style and devastating left hook. “This is a great honour for me, my father, my family and my whole team,” said Trinidad, who retired in 2009 with a record of 42-3 with 35 knockouts. “This is the biggest triumph of my career.” Calzaghe was the Rocky Marciano of his division — nobody beat him in 46 professional bouts, which included a division-record 21 defences of his super middleweight title. “Im so excited,” Calzaghe said. “Im very proud and humbled. I think its amazing. This is a massive, massive honour, just fantastic.” cheap jerseys whole… jerseys ’ ’ ’

It narcotizes fi, that are then quickly captured. However, most fi collected with cyanide die so months later from liver hurt. In addition, non-marketable species die within the field. A major catalyst of cyanide fiing is poverty within fiing munities. In locations such as the Philippines wherever the cyanide is regularly employed , the proportion from the population under the poverty line is 40%. In such creating nations, a fierman may well resort to these kinds of prtices in order to protect his loved ones from starvation.Dynamite fiing is one more destructive approh for gathering fi. Sticks of dynamite, grenades, or ho-made explosives are basically thrown from the drinking water. This technique of fiing kills the fi inside the primary blast region, in addition to many inedible andor unwanted reef animals. The blast also kills the corals in the area, reducing the very structure with the reef, destroying the habitat for fi along with other animals crucial for that preservation of a nutritious reef. Other harmful fiing techniques, like muroami and kayakas, destroy all fi in particular locations , creating havoc around the ecosystem with the reef.Hughes, et al., (2003), wrote that “with improved human population and improved storage and transport systems, the scale of human impts on reefs has grown exponentially. As an example, markets for fi and also other normal sources have bee international, supplying demand for reef resources.” PollutionMajor write-up: Marine pollutionThis image of an algae bloom off the southern coast of England, although not within a coral area, ows what a bloom can search like from a satellite remote sensing systemRunoff induced by farming and developnt of roads nike air max 90 outlet italia , buildings, ports, channels, and harbours, can carry soil laden with carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and minerals. So algae are poisonous, and equally plants reduce the levels of sunlight and oxygen, killing marine organisms including fi and coral. The addition of as well a lot of nutrients including phosphates and nitrates, an approh generally known as eutrophication, is extrely damaging to reefs. Higher nitrate levels are toxic to corals, whilst phosphates decelerate the progress of coral skeleton.Reefs in near proximity to human populations could be fed with nearby stresses, such as inadequate h2o top quality from land-based sources of pollution. Copper, a widespread industrial pollutant has long been demonstrated to interfere together with the lifestyle heritage and improvent of coral polyps. Noheless, recovery may not be feasible if CO2 amounts rise to 500 ppm due to the ft there may possibly not be enough carbonate ions present. Warming, thought to be the main cause of coral blehing, weakens corals. In their weakened state, coral is far more prone to ailnts such aG.

Rychels second goal of the game with 26.3 seconds remaining gave the Storm a 4-3 come-from-behind win against the North Bay Battalion in Game 5 on Friday and their first OHL title since 2004. Before Rychel could play hero late in the game, he was already the Storms saviour when he scored his first of the night with just under five minutes remaining in the third period to tie the score, easily depositing a second rebound behind hard luck North Bay goalie Jake Smith. That set up Rychels dramatic goal in the final seconds, as he went hard to the net and snapped a rebound past Smiths blocker. “I blacked out. Its the biggest goal of my life honestly. Words cant really describe it,” Rychel said. “I still cant believe it. I kind of feel like Im in a dream right now.” It has been a dream series for the Storm, who came back to win Game 1 in overtime, Game 3 in the final 30 seconds with two quick goals and then the capper in Game 5. “Thats the way it goes. You have to play right to the buzzer,” said Storm head coach Scott Walker, enjoying his fourth year behind the Guelph bench. “I have a great group of guys, they never stopped believing. They love each other, they play hard for each other, so it was great.” Walker pointed to the dramatic Game 3 comeback as the turning point in the series, when the Storm finally showed the form that won them the Western Conference. “We played hard and we have a great bunch of guys, and when theyre playing theyre hard to stop. I dont know what will happen (in London), but thats the way you play.” Rychel agreed with his coachs assessment about the teams penchant for coming back. “We didnt stop believing,” Rychel said. “I really dont think we had our best game tonight, but I thought we could pull it out. Once we had it 3-3 then it was anybodys game.” Up until the tying goal, the Storm had outshot the Battalion, but North Bay looked fully in control of the game. Guelph never led the game until Rychels second gooal.dddddddddddd North Bay opened the scoring at 16:18 of the first on the power play when Nick Paul beat Justin Nichols, who turned aside 23-of-26 shots, with a well-placed snapshot from the left circle just inside the far post. The lead didnt last long as Brock McGinn blasted a shot from the high slot over Smiths blocker 50 seconds later. Brett McKenzies redirection on a Marcus McIvor pass to the slot gave the Battalion the lead once again with a minute left in the period. Barclay Goodrow put his team up 3-1 in the second period when he stole the puck from Jason Dickinson at centre ice and went in alone on Nichols, moving to his right before sliding the puck in. Just when it looked as if North Bay would cruise into the intermission with a two-goal cushion, Matt Finn took a pass from Robby Fabbri and walked into the slot before banking a shot off the near post and in with a minute remaining. Fabbri had three assists on the night for 28 points and was named the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award winner as the OHL playoff Most Valuable Player. Goodrows goal looked like it was going to hold up until Rychel went to work. “I think they deserved better and I think they should be playing on Sunday, but sometimes in hockey games dont go your way. Tonight was one of those things,” said North Bay head coach Stan Butler. “As a coaching staff we believed in this group of guys and the way they played tonight showed the type of character they have. They played hard all the games. Im so proud of them, the way they played, but Im disappointed in the result for them.” Smith meanwhile was superb on the night, stopping 34 shots in the loss. Now Guelph heads to the Memorial Cup in London, Ont., which starts May 16. In their last trip to the Memorial Cup in 2004 the Storm finished last in the four-team tournament. Rychel is going to soak it all in. “I was close in my rookie year, three wins away from going to the Memorial Cup. Now, I get my chance to go and its a great feeling,” he said. “Were going to be ready for sure. Were going to enjoy this for a couple of days, but its a big event and well definitely be ready.” cheap jerseys whole… jerseys ’ ’ ’

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Thanks to Carl Hagelin and Cam Talbot, the New York Rangers remain on a tear. The Columbus Blue Jackets, meanwhile, have reached a tipping point. Hagelin scored two goals — one thanks to an opposing player — and Talbot made 32 saves to lead the Rangers past the Blue Jackets 4-2 on Thursday night. After Columbus fifth loss in a row, forward Brandon Dubinsky and coach Todd Richards each said they were humiliated by the teams lack of effort. “Theres really nothing left to say,” Dubinsky said. “Its flat-out embarrassing for us, our fans, for the organization. Thank God for (goalie Sergei Bobrovsky). It could have been 10-1 before we had an opportunity to come (out for) the third period.” The Blue Jackets closed last season on a 19-5-5 tear — the second-best record down the stretch in the entire NHL. But they are 5-10-0 this season and wallowing near the basement of the Eastern Conference in their first year since making the move over from the West. “That was embarrassing hockey tonight,” Richards said. “Thats losing hockey, the way we played. We got exactly what we deserved. It could have been 7-1 going into the third period. Our goalie was great. There was not enough battle, not enough compete. Simple as that. Really disappointed in our group.” In the other dressing room, the mood was celebratory. The Rangers have won five of their last six to climb in the standings and get back to 8-8-0 on the season. “We want to play better than we have,” Hagelin said. “We know we should be .500 at least. Its good to be there; now weve just got to start climbing.” Coach Alain Vigneault lauded his teams effort during a busy time. “For us, it was back-to-back nights, four (games) in six nights, three in four, and the end of a pretty long stretch here where we played nine games in 15 nights,” Vigneault said. “We did what we had to do to win the game. We talked about making it a greasy third period. And we did that for the most part.” Rangers captain Ryan Callahan and defenceman Ryan McDonagh each added a goal and an assist. There were plenty of familiar faces on both sides — four players on each team used to play for the other one. Talbot, giving Henrik Lundqvist a night off, was the third straight backup goalie to face the Blue Jackets. All three have won, combining to give up just three goals. Talbot made several solid saves in the scoreless third period, stymieing former Ranger Artem Anisimov on a backhander in the crease on a power play in the final minutes. “He played great again,” defenceman Marc Staal said of Talbot. “He made very timely saves when we need them. Hes been rock solid since his first start. We have all the confidence in the world in him.” A wild second period saw the Rangers score two of three goals — one when a Blue Jackets player put the puck in his own net. At the 4:17 mark, with the Rangers on a power play, McDonaghs hard shot from the point was redirected twice. First it glanced off Mats Zuccarello before it ricocheted into the net off a redirect by Callahan. New York made it 3-1 at 12:44 on a fluke. Columbus forward Mark Letestu tried to clear the puck from the left corner but instead he lost control of it and pushed it past Bobrovsky from a hard angle. The goal was awarded to Hagelin. “We came out hard,” Hagelin said. “We played OK in the first couple of minutes, then we gave them some chances. In the second, we did a good job. They were in the (penalty) box a lot and our power play is looking pretty good right now.” Ex-Ranger Fedor Tyutin scored his first of the season and rookie Ryan Murray also had a goal for the Blue Jackets, who lost despite several highlight-reel stops among the 30 saves by Bobrovsky. He stopped Brian Boyle on a breakaway. Then, in the opening 90 seconds of the second period, Bobrovsky made three big saves — one on Brad Richards, who came in 1-on-1 after a turnover — and then two against Zuccarello on one rush. Bobrovsky also was sprawled on his stomach when he gloved a backhander by Derek Stepan. Dubinsky could not shake his anger about the lack of effort. “We need to take a hard look in the mirror, as an individual and as a team,” he said. “Then we need to find a way to correct it. It should be the easiest thing to correct. I mean, really, its not a systematic thing or a teaching thing. Were all in the NHL now. We should be here because of hard work and effort and second and third effort. So we know how to do it. We just have to go out and do it.” NOTES: Before the season, the game was expected to mark the return of former Blue Jackets captain Rick Nash, but hes missed the last 13 games with a concussion. … Hagelin has four goals this season and points in his last four games (four goals, two assists). … The Blue Jackets havent led since early in the second period against Anaheim on Oct. 27 — almost 280 minutes of ice time. NEW YORK — Alex Rodriguez benched himself at his own grievance hearing. The New York Yankees star walked out in the middle of a session Wednesday, furious that arbitrator Fredric Horowitz refused to order baseball Commissioner Bud Selig to testify. The move, followed by angry statements accusing Selig of bias and the entire arbitration process of flaws, appeared to be a prelude to a lawsuit challenging whatever ruling Horowitz makes on A-Rods 211-game suspension. Horowitz was in the midst of the 11th day of hearings on the grievance filed by the players association to overturn the penalty given to the three-time AL MVP by Major League Baseball in August for alleged violations of the sports drug agreement and labour contract. “I lost my mind. I banged a table and kicked a briefcase and slammed out of the room,” Rodriguez said during a 40-minute interview on WFAN radio. “I probably overreacted, but it came from the heart.” Rodriguez has not testified in the grievance and said he had been warned that repeating his denials of wrongdoing on the stand could result in attempts at additional discipline by MLB. MLB argued that it could decide what witnesses it wanted to present to justify the discipline, since the penalty must meet a “just cause” standard. The league said Chief Operating Officer Rob Manfred spoke to reasoning behind the discipline during his six hours of testimony. Rodriguez and the union asked Horowitz to compel Selig to testify. After the arbitrator refused, Rodriguez uttered a profanity at Manfred just before leaving the hearing room at MLBs office, two people familiar with the proceedings said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because what takes place at the hearing is supposed to be confidential. “In the entire history of the Joint Drug Agreement, the commissioner has not testified in a single case,” the commissioners office said in a statement. “Major League Baseball has the burden of proof in this matter. MLB selected Rob Manfred as its witness to explain the penalty imposed in this case. Mr. Rodriguez and the players Association have no right to dictate how baseballs case is to proceed any more than baseball has the right to dictate how their case proceeds. Todays antics are an obvious attempt to justify Mr. Rodriguezs continuing refusal to testify under oath.” The hearing continued for about two hours after Rodriguez left the room, one of the people said, and is scheduled to resume Thursday morning. “We have put on evidence. We have more evidence to put on. We are evaluating our options,” said James McCarroll, a lawyer for Rodriguez who also spoke during the WFAN interview. “We havent said the case isnt being completed. We havent said that the case isnt complete.” Horowitz, chosen by management and the union as their independent arbitrator last year, has the discretion to eliminate the suspension or alter it. The statements by Rodriguez and McCarroll made it appear the 14-time All-Star intends to sue MLB and the union unless the penalty is eliminated. Rodriguez already has filed one suit against MLB and Selig, accusing them of a “witch hunt,” and another against the Yankees team physician and his hospital, alleging malpractice in the diagnosis and treatment of a hip injury. Manfred is technically part of a three-person arbitration panel that also includes union General Counsel David Prouty and is chaired by Horowitz “Im done. I dont have a chance,” Rodriguez said during the WFAN interview. He issued a statement earlier in the day attacking the procedures established in the agreements between MLB and the union. “I am disgusted with this abusive process, designed to ensure that the player fails,” Rodriguez said. "I have sat through 10 days of testimony by felons and liars, sitting quietly through every minute, trying to respect the league and the process. “This morning, after Bud Selig refused to come in and testifyy about his rationale for the unprecedented and totally baseless punishment he hit me with, the arbitrator selected by MLB and the players association refused to order Selig to come in and face me.ddddddddddddThe absurdity and injustice just became too much. I walked out and will not participate any further in this farce.” The players association was disappointed with Horowitzs decision but was less confrontational than Rodriguez. “The MLBPA believes that every player has the right under our arbitration process to directly confront his accuser,” the union said in a statement. “We argued strenuously to the arbitrator in Alexs case that the commissioner should be required to appear and testify. While we respectfully disagree with the arbitrators ruling, we will abide by it as we continue to vigorously challenge Alexs suspension within the context of this hearing.” McCarroll blamed Horowitz for precluding evidence Rodriguez wanted to introduce and hinted of a court fight. “Whether the case is finally decided in this forum, created by Major League Baseball, Bud Seligs forum, or another forum, nobody is throwing the case out,” he said. Joseph Tacopina, another Rodriguez lawyer, spoke on CNN and accused Selig of “cowardice and hypocrisy.” He said Manfred testified the decision on discipline was Seligs. Rodriguez denied using performance-enhancing drugs or obstructing MLBs investigation into the Biogenesis of America anti-aging clinic. Rodriguez was the only one of the 14 players disciplined this summer to challenge his suspension. “Over time, the arbitration process in baseball has been amazingly pro player,” MLB spokesman Pat Courtney said. “It was that process which created free agency. It allowed Steve Howe to remain on the field despite numerous drug violations and resulted in the shortening of suspensions like John Rockers. The notion that this same process is not fair enough or good enough for Alex Rodriguez is ridiculous.” Rodriguez said he had hoped to testify Friday. MLB had insisted Rodriguez submit to an “investigatory interview” prior to his testimony, but he cancelled his scheduled appearance last week, claiming illness. MLB agreed to waive its right to penalize him for testimony during an interview it might deem untruthful, one of the people said. “The system is wrong, and whether youre in federal court or state court or in kangaroo court that we are today, players need protection,” Rodriguez said on WFAN. “The union has already told me that if I go on on Friday and they think I lied, they can give me say another 100 games, so now youre to 311. So now well appeal that. In the appeal process, I would say I didnt do it, so now youre up to 411, and this can go on for the next seven or eight years.” He repeatedly disparaged Selig, who has been in charge of baseball since 1992 and said in September he plans to retire in January 2015. Rodriguez said Selig wants him as “a trophy” to put “in his big mantel on his way out.” “My only message to the commissioner is, I know you dont like New York, but come to New York and face the music. He hates my guts, theres no question about it,” Rodriguez said. “One hundred per cent its personal, and I think this is about his legacy, and its about my legacy, and hes trying to destroy me.” Rodriguez said four years ago he used PEDs while with the Texas Rangers from 2001-03. He has denied using them since. He briefly discussed his relationship with Biogenesis head Anthony Bosch, who is co-operating with MLBs investigation. “It was nutrition and it was weight loss,” Rodriguez said. “And Bosch wasnt the only guy. I travelled the world to see doctors, cutting-edge stuff, but always between the parameters of Major League Baseball. And I have hundreds of emails that will be part of evidence which I cant get into that backs me up 100 per cent.” cheap jerseys whole… jerseys ’ ’ ’

EL PASO, Texas - Brett Hundley shredded Virginia Techs fourth-ranked defence in the Sun Bowl. The UCLA quarterback had 86 and 7-yard touchdown runs and finished with 161 yards on 10 carries in the No. 17 Bruins 42-12 victory over the Hokies on Tuesday. “I guess he can run a little,” UCLA coach Jim Mora said. “He played well. He was poised.” Hundley also completed 16 of 29 passes for 226 yards and two scores. “It was a special game,” Hundley said. “We played well as an offence. We had to make adjustments. When we did, we got things going.” Hundley and UCLA linebacker Jordan Zumwalt shared MVP honours. Zumwalt had 10 tackles and returned an interception 43 yards to set up a touchdown. “Its the best game Ive ever seen him play,” Mora said about Zumwalt. "He was unbelievable from start to finish. The Bruins (10-3) outscored the Hokies (8-5) 28-2 in the fourth quarter. After Virginia Tech cut it to 14-10 on Michael Branthovers 22-yard field goal with 3:53 left in the third quarter, UCLA answered with a 12-play, 85-yard drive, capped by Paul Perkinss 5-yard run early in the fourth. Hokies backup quarterback Mark Leal then threw a pass under heavy pressure that linebacker Myles Jack intercepted and returned 29 yards for a touchdown that made it 28-10. “In the second half we blocked things up better,” Mora said. “We got back to doing what we do best. We played with great tempo. We were not as uptight.” Virginia Tech, which lost starting quarterback Logan Thomas to an injury in the second quarter, got its final points when UCLA punter Sean Covington stepped on the end line for a safety with 9:38 left. Thomas, Virginia Techs career passing leader, left after taking a big hit along the UCLA sideline early in the second quarter. The hit resulted in a 15-yard penalty on the Bruins. “It was tough to miss time on the field, the worst feeling of my career,” Thomas said. “I would have rather you guys talk bad about me than miss time on the field. We were doing some good things on offence. I thought we were right on the verge of doing some good things.” UCLA pushed it to 35-12 on Hundleys 8-yard touchdown pass to Thomas Duarte with 7:31 to play. The Bruins stayed aggressive late, and Hundley fired a 59-yard scoring strike down the right sideline to Shaquelle Evans for another score with 5:49 remaining. It wasnt that easy early on, though, for UCLA, which led 14-7 at the half. Hundley had six carries for 168 yards in the half. He set the Sun Bowl record for rushing yards by a quarterback by halftime, even though he lost 7 yards in the second to finish at 161. The Bruins rushed for 202 yards in the first half, and finished with 197. The win in the first meeting between the teams allowed UCLA to post its first 10-win season since 2005, and helped the Bruins forget last seasons 49-26 loss to Baylor in the Holiday Bowl. Virginia Tech had its second-worst loss in a bowl game. Its worst was a 42-3 loss to North Carolina in the 1998 Gator Bowl. The 42 points the Hokies allowed were the second-most in a bowl game behind the 52 they gave up in a 52-49 loss to California in the 2003 Insight Bowl. While the Hokies, making their 21st consecutive bowl appearance, were able to limit UCLAs running backs to 49 yards, they had no answer for Hundley, who repeatedly gouged them for big gainers on designed quarterback counters. “UCLA made the plays it had to and you have to give them credit,” Hokies coach Frank Beamer said. "I was disappointed that we didnt execute better. “When we recovered the fumble down 14-7, I had hoped we could have punched it in for a touchdown, but we had to settle for three and then UCLA comes back and scores to make it 21-10. That was huge. I thought about going for it on fourth down but we just wanted to get something on the board.” cheap jerseys from china . Téma: Jak postupovat / he pitch, disorientating their oppponents

The Vancouver Whitecaps were denied a well-earned three points against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, after Gonzalo Pineda converted a controversial penalty kick to level the score at 2-2. Whitecaps skipper Jay DeMerit was judged to have fouled Sounders striker Cam Weaver, though the “foul” that DeMerit allegedly committed was a mystery to me. In the aftermath of the game, I tweeted this: If we start giving penalty kicks every time players make minimal contact heading crossed balls, well ruin the game. — Jason deVos (jasondevos) May 25, 2014 To which I received this response: @jasondevos LOL -too late! You already ruined it with your stupid LTPD plan. #keepscore — Jon Empringham (92jays93) May 25, 2014 While Mr. Empringhams tweet wasnt relative to the Vancouver Whitecaps game against the Seattle Sounders, it did highlight another important point: LTPD, the CSAs long-term player development program, is still very misunderstood. According to his twitter bio, Mr. Empringham is an elementary school teacher who coaches basketball, soccer and track. Given his occupation, he would appear to be the ideal proponent of the principles of LTPD. Yet he seems adamantly opposed to the removal of scores and standings for youth soccer players below the age of 13. While the removal of scores and standings is just one small component of the changes brought forward by LTPD, the concept still faces considerable pushback. I believe that much of that pushback comes from the general publics misunderstanding of the reason why scores and standings have been removed. Keeping scores and standings is not inherently bad for children. We havent been doing young players a disservice all of these years by tracking the results of their games, nor by adding up their wins and losses at the end of their seasons. What we have done, though, is compromise their development by linking their opportunities within the game – perceived or otherwise – to their results on the field. As it is my home province, I will use Ontario to explain. Until the introduction of LTPD, the “Pyramid for Play” (the name of the competitive structure for youth soccer in Ontario) was based on promotion and relegation between multiple tiers. The higher the tier, the more “competitive” the level of play. Tier 1, provincial “rep” soccer, was considered the highest level of play, while Tier 7, local “house league” soccer, was the introductory level. Teams who won their leagues (or finished in the top two or three, in some cases) were promoted to the next highest tier, while teams who finished bottom of their leagues (or finished in the bottom two or three, in some cases) were demoted to the next lowest tier. This movement of teams every year caused a major problem. Players as young as 9 were coming under immense pressure to win promotion – primarily from their coaches and parents. In some cases, failure to win promotion would lead to the break up of an entire team, as players would scatter over the off-season in order to tryout for teams that did win promotion. The concept of promotion and relegation created a false belief amongst coaches and parents that the key to success in the game – the way for kids to “make it” – was to play at the Tier 1 level, which began at the under-14 age category. The years leading up to under-14 were becoming a dogfight, as players jostled to be on a team that was poised to win promotion to Tier 1. It didnt really matter how games were won, or what players were learning, so long as promotion was achieved. The competitive structure itself reinforced this “win at all costs” mentality, and youth soccer in Ontario found itself spiralling into a vicious cycle that was getting worse every year. In my time working as the Technical Director of the Oakville Soccer Club, I once had to gather the parents of an entire age groups competitive program after a fight had broken out amongst parents on the sidelines of an under-10 boys game. On another occasion, I had to intervene on the field of a house league game, as the coaches and parents were incensed by a call made by the referee – who was a 16-year-old girl – and were verbally abusing the young lady. Yet another incident saw a 14-year-old referee leave the field in tears after being verbally abused by spectators at a game. Over time, we have collectively lost sight of the fact that youth soccer is a game that is supposed to be enjoyed by its players, coaches and spectators. Young children shouldnt have to shoulder the burden of “needing to win this game” in order to win promotion or avoid relegation. That pressure is difficult enough for seasoned professional players to handle. Imagine if children had to finish in the top three in their class in order to graduate to the next grade each year? Our school system would devolve into chaos – wed have parents submitting homework and assignments on behalf of their children, as theyd be terrified that their kids would miss out on graduation! Critics have argued that over-competitiveness amongst parents is a societal issue, and that other sports suffer from the same problems. If that is the case though, then surely it is up to our governing bodies to try to better the environments in which our children experience the game of soccer? Surely they should do everything in their power to compensate for our societys failings? Critics have also suggested that, rather than removing scores and standings, we should just remove promotion and relegation from the system. But doing so is far more difficult than it sounds. For starters, how does one determine which teams play at which competitive level? Does one make that determination based on population, geographic location, club size or historical club “success” – all the while knowing that any “success” that was previously achieved was done in a flawed system that was systematically abused? Additionally, there are many people firmly entrenched within the clubs and districts who rule the game in Canada who dont think anything is wrong with how we develop soccer players. Some of those individuals believe this because they do not know what a genuine, player-centric development system should look like, while others believe this because they have a vested financial interest in maintaining the status quo. It is those individuals who will fight the hardest to maintain the previous competitive structure. The only way to combat this is through education – by shining a light on what our real problems are. Because the only way we are going to fix our problems is if we first acknowledge what they really are. It isnt about scores and standings being “bad” for kids. It is about the behaviour that keeping scores and standings brings out in adults. nfl jerseys china . Left back Armero opened the scoring in the fifth minute when his deflected shot rolled past Greece goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis. Striker Teofilo Gutierrez poked in Colombias second goal from a deflected corner in the 58th and James Rodriguez capped it off with a low shot in stoppage time after a slick backheel flick from Juan Cuadrado. Colombias pace and trickery were too much for Greece to handle in the latter stages and the 57,174 crowd, most dressed in bright yellow shirts, chanted “Ole, ole” after the result at Estadio Mineriao. Greece had the majority of possession with 54 per cent, but whenever Colombia players got hold off the ball, they blazed down the flanks and through the middle of the pitch, disorientating their oppponents.dddddddddddd The Greeks had a chance to pull a goal back after Gutierrezs goal, but an unmarked Georgios Samaras rattled the crossbar from two yards out. There were other chances, too. Panagiotis Kones shot went just wide in the first half. Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina then made an outstanding reaction save to deny Kone just before halftime. Greece defenders started getting frustrated with Colombias pace in the second half and began to foul the South Americans, with two players picked up yellow cards within minutes. The result will give Colombia confidence that it can win competitive matches without star striker Radamel Falcao, who was ruled out after failing to recovery from a serious knee injury. The other Group C teams, Ivory Coast and Japan, were playing later Saturday. MADRID, Spain — Barcelona came from behind for an easy 4-1 victory over Cartagena in the Copa del Rey on Friday to end a two-game losing streak. Carlos de Lerma struck after just six minutes to put the hosts ahead against the Spanish champions, who left Neymar on the bench. Despite missing injured trio Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona then simply overwhelmed its third-division opponents with its sheer attacking talent. Pedro Rodriguez scored either side of Cesc Fabregas second-half volley, and substitute Jean Dongou marked his debut with a late goal as Barcelona snapped out of its first slump of the season. “We were obliged to win considering who we are and where we come from,” coach Gerardo Martino said. Six matches opened the round of 32, with Juan Carlos Garrido beginning his Real Betis coaching career with a win as the struggling Spanish league side beat 10-man Lleida 2-1. None of the lower-tier clubs emerged victorious on Friday as Real Betis and Sevilla coming away from their first legs with away wins. De Lerma latched on to a bouncing ball inside the area to fire Cartagena ahead, and the hosts should have had a second 10 minutes later only Fernando Rodriguez shot wide. “They played a very intense game, they didnt stop running and showed a great attitude for the first 15 to 20 minutes,” Martino said. “But after that when we controlled possession we took the legs out from under Cartegena.” But Barcelona — which had Jordi Alba return for the first time since September — continued to pressure with its speed and combinations, with Alexis Sanchez and Pedro guilty of glaring misses before Fabregas sprung Pedro with a through ball to score from in the 36th. Fabregas volleyed Adrianos cross into the top corner to put Barcelona ahead just before the break. Sanchez re-directed Pedros cross over an empty goal just before the Chile striker put Pedro through to score in the 75th with a slick dummy around goalkeeper Jesus Limones. Dongou came on for Alexis and the Cameroon teenager latched on to Pedros shot as it came off the post in the 90th for his first goal. Lleida goalkeeper Pau Torres was red-carded in the fourth minute and his replacement, Fran Perales, saved the ensuing penalty from Jorge Molina. But Joan Verdu scored the next penalty in the 27th to put Betis ahead, and Molina made up for his earlier miss in the 42nd after a gaffe by Perales. Despite Betis scoring two away goals, Lleida pulled a goal back through Pere Milla in the 57th to stay in the second leg. Garrido replaced Pepe Mel on Monday with Betis bottom of the first division. Elsewhere, Algeciras rallied to draw 1-1 against Real Sociedad, 10-man Sevilla won 1-0 at Racing Santander, and Elche has the edge after drawing 2-2 at Villarreal in a matchup of topflight clubs. Rayo Vallecano and Valladolid drew 0-0 in the other topflight matchup. . United when it travels to Columbus for a Major League Soccer clash with the Crew on Saturday. PHILADELPHIA — Claude Giroux scored the tying and winning goals in the final minutes of the third period, rallying the Philadelphia Flyers past the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 on Thursday night. Giroux scored two of the Flyers five third-period goals as Philadelphia stormed back from a 3-0 hole. Girouxs 100th NHL goal was perhaps his most amazing, a backhanded and blind shot that beat Curtis McElhinney up high with 1:39 left. The Flyers captain had tied it with 4:39 left. Jakub Voracek, Braydon Coburn, Erik Gustafsson also scored goals for the Flyers. Steve Mason got the win in his first game against his former team. The Blue Jackets traded Mason to the Flyers, and his strong season has helped keep Philadelphia afloat through its offensive struggles. Cam Atkinson, Jack Skille, Nick Foligno and Blake Comeau had goals for Columbus. Giroux had no view of the net when he beat McElhinney for the stunning goal. Giroux is starting to come around after a lengthy goal drought to open the season. The Flyers snapped their scoreless skid and started their rally with a pair of quick goals to open the third. Voracek, a former Blue Jackets forward, scored his sixth goal in six games with a wrister from the circle to make it 3-1. Coburn swiped the puck at the blue line, knocked a low liner toward the net, and the puck one-hopped its way past McElhinney to make it 3-2. The Blue Jackets, in control for 40 minutes, called timeout to regroup and stall Philadelphias momentum. It worked — for a few minutes. Columbus centre Artem Anisimov hustled for a loose puck off a turnover behind the net and kicked it out to Comeau, who was alone for the nice feed annd scored his third goal to make it 4-2.dddddddddddd Gustafsson scored his second of the season with 4:39 left, and Giroux came streaking down the right side and finished off a rush with 3:45 left for the tying goal, sending the crowd into a frenzy. He was just getting started. The Flyers were heavily booed off the ice at the end of the second period, and the familiar chants of “E-A-G-L-E-S!” echoed throughout the Wells Fargo Center. The fans were unhappy with a sloppy end to the second in which Columbus took a 3-0 lead. With only 7.5 seconds left, Jack Johnson cleared the puck from behind the net, and Foligno was there to knock in his 10th goal. The Flyers recorded only nine shots in the period. Columbus has been hit hard by injuries, but McElhinney made the early lead stand. Atkinson opened the scoring midway through the first with a short-handed goal. Voracek was stripped of the puck at Columbus blue line, setting up a 2-on-1 for Atkinson to bust loose with his 10th goal. The Blue Jackets caught the Flyers off-guard against the boards on a shift change, setting up yet another 2-on-1 break. This time, Skille connected from the circle. Mason had 12 wins and a shutout for the Flyers in his first full season with the franchise. Mason had it all figured out when he went 33-20-7 with 10 shutouts and won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year in 2008-09, the only season the Blue Jackets made the playoffs. He posted a goals-against average over 3.00 each of the next three seasons and was out the door upon the emergence of Vezina Trophy winner Sergei Bobrovsky. Notes: Voracek has a point in six straight games. … The Flyers are 15-8-4 since a 1-7 start. The Fighting Irish nearly pulled off an improbable comeback when Jerian Grant shook off a slow start and went on a personal 9-0 run inside the final three minutes. Grants two free throws with 31.2 seconds left gave Notre Dame a 72-71 lead, but Robinson drove right, gained some space with a spin move and scored over Pat Connaughton for what proved to be the deciding bucket. Grant passed up a shot at the other end with Steve Vasturia open in the corner, and Vasturias shot was off the mark. Jamel Artis grabbed the rebound, made two free throws, and Pitt stole the ensuing inbounds pass to end its three-game losing streak. Artis finished with 20 points and eight rebounds, and Robinson added 15 points with 10 assists for the Panthers (14-8, 4-5 ACC), who shot 68 percent from the field in the second half and 59 percent overall. Terry Rozier added 22 points and 10 rebounds, scoring eight in overtime to help Louisville (18-3, 6-2 ACC) pick up its third consecutive win since a loss to Duke two weeks ago. Chris Jones scored seven of his 17 points in overtime for the Cardinals. Marcus Paige had 15 points to lead North Carolina (17-5, 7-2) and J.P. Tokoto added 11 with 11 rebounds. Brice Johnson had two points and 10 rebounds before fouling out. The Tar Heels shot 43.3 percent from the field, down from a 50.8 percent mark during their winning streak. They are 0-3 all-time against the Cardinals in Louisville, also losing games in 1929 and 1999. Final Score: (18) Northern Iowa 70, (12) Wichita State 54 Cedar Falls, IA (SportsNetwork.com) – Northern Iowa and Wichita State played the first Missouri Valley game between ranked opponents in 33 years. Iowa State owns the 10th-longest home winning streak in the country. Bryce Dejean-Jones also scored 16 points and Dustin Hogue added 12 in the victory. Each of the Cyclones first seven conference games had been decided by single digits, but Iowa State used a couple of second- half runs to make it a laugher after leading by only two at halftime. Trey Zeigler scored 14 points for TCU (14-7, 1-7), which has lost four in a row. The Horned Frogs were 13-0 before conference play began in January. BOSTON — David Krejci scored a second-period power-play goal and Chad Johnson made 22 saves for his second career shutout and the Boston Bruins earned a 4-0 victory over the last-place Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. Krejcis 12th goal of the season at 2:06 of the second period was enough for the Bruins to win for the sixth time in their past eight games and maintain the second-best record in the Eastern Conference. Dougie Hamilton, Carl Soderberg and Torey Krug scored in the third for Boston. Jarome Iginla and Zdeno Chara each had two assists. Johnson started in place of Tuukka Rask, who was pulled during Thursdays loss to the Montreal Canadiens. Edmonton goalie Ben Scrivens was coming off a scintillating performance against San Jose on Wednesday, when he set the NHL regular-season record for saves in a regulation shutout with 59 during the Oilers 3-0 win over the Sharks. Scrivens made 37 saves on Saturday. He kept them in the game again Saturday, but Edmonton had its three-game winning streak end. Acquired from Los Angeles on Jan. 15, Scrivens stopped all nine shots he faced in the first. But just 26 seconds into the second period, with the Oilers breaking out of their zone, Scrivens was penalized for tripping Brad Marchand just ouutside the crease, setting up Bostons third power play of the game.dddddddddddd Scrivens scrambled from side to side midway through the man advantage, denying a pair of doorstep rebounds, but his shutout run ended at 126 minutes, 41 seconds when Krejcis shot from above the right circle was deflected into the net by Edmontons Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Kicker Graham Gano believes hes found a home in Carolina. Gano became the first of Carolinas 20 soon-to-be unrestricted free agents to re-sign with the Panthers on Friday, signing a four-year contract. Financial terms were not released. “Im really excited to be back in Carolina,” Gano said. “It is where my family and I wanted to be. I love the organization and feel this is the best place for me.” The 26-year-old Gano is coming off a successful season, converting 24 of 27 field goal attempts while helping the team to a 12-4 record and the NFC South title. He set a franchise record and tied for the NFL lead with six made field goals from 50 yards or more. He was the only NFL kicker with three or more attempts from 50 yards or more without a miss from that distance. “The special teams unit was a large part of our success last year and we are excited to keep Graham as a part of our team,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said in a news release. “Graham has shown range and accuracy in his field goal kicking, and his strong leg has been a weapon for us on kickoffs.” Of his 82 kickoffs, 76 reached the end zone, including 63 for touchbacks, the highest percentage in the NFL since 1994. A five-year NFL veteran, Gano spent his first three seasons with the Washington Redskins. He has converted 92 of 118 field goal attempts in his career. Gano tied the NFL record for most overtime field goals in a season with three in 2010, a mark previously accomplished by John Kasay for Carolina in 2003 and Jason Hanson for Detroit in 1994. Gano feels like he has some stability on the team, which has helped his game. “When I was in Washington I went through four holders and that took some getting used to,” Gano said. “I finally got comfortable there and made my last 14 of 17 field goals. Ive carried over that consistency to Carolina.” Gano said he was celebrating the new deal by taking his son to Chic-fil-A. Carolinas other unrestricted free agents include quarterbacks Derek Anderson and Jimmy Clausen, wide receivers Domenik Hixon, Brandon LaFell and Ted Ginn Jr., tight end Ben Hartsock, offensive linemen Geoff Hangartner, Travelle Wharton, Garry Williams and Bruce Campbell, defensive end Greg Hardy, defensive tackle Colin Cole, linebackers Jordan Senn, Jason Williams and Dan Connor, safeties Quintin Mikell and Mike Mitchell, and cornerbacks Captain Munnerlyn and Drayton Florence. Reliever Drew Storen, already with men on first and second with none out in the seventh inning of a tie game, was on the ropes. Then Storen threw Stanton a slider. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Momentum shifted. Two popouts later, the inning was over with no damage done, and the Washington Nationals scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-3 win over the Miami Marlins. Canada and the United States square off for the gold medal on Thursday. Listen to the game live on TSN Radio starting at 11:30am et/8:30am pt. Both teams were able to show their strength in the semifinals but in different areas of the game. The United States pummeled Sweden 6-1, bringing their output to 20 goals for the tournament thus far. Three American forwards – Amanda Kessel, Kendall Coyne and Brianna Decker – sit tied for second in tournament scoring with six points apiece through four games. The trio combined for seven points against Finland. The Canadians, meanwhile, won a war of attrition against Switzerland. Stymied often by Swiss netminder Florence Schelling, the Canadian women showed grit and resilience in a 3-1 victory to make their fifth straight gold medal game. In two games against Switzerland, Schelling stopped 109 Canadian shots on goal. Canada was timely with their offence in the semifinal, however, scoring their three goals in a span of just over four minutes in the first period. Canada and the United States have met in three of the four gold medal games in Olympic history. Canada won gold in 2002 and 2010 with the Americans claiminng gold at the inaugural tournament in Nagano, Japan in 1998.dddddddddddd Canada also won gold in 2006 after Sweden beat the Americans in the semifinal. The Canadians got the best of the Americans in the preliminary round, winning their round robin finale 3-2 thanks to a pair of goals from Meghan Agosta-Marciano. That game marked just the second time in the history of the Olympic womens tournament that the North American rivals met without the gold being at stake. Prior to the Olympics, the Americans topped Canada at the 2013 Womens World Championships in Ottawa, beating Canada 3-2 in the gold medal game on Amanda Kessels game-winner. Canada would respond by topping the U.S. in the 4 Nations Cup in November, winning their game 4-2 en route to claiming the tournament title. The continental rivals have also met six other times since October in an exhibition series. The United States took the final four games of the series which were all contested in December. Canada won the opening two games of the set, back in October. PHILADELPHIA - If the trade rumours bothered the Philadelphia Phillies, they only have a few hours left. Carlos Ruiz and Michael Young hit two-run homers to back John Lannan, and the Phillies beat the San Francisco Giants 7-3 Tuesday night to snap an eight-game losing streak. The Phillies beat the New York Mets 13-8 in their first game after the All-Star break, but scored a total of 14 in the next eight losses to drop out of contention. “I think the trade deadline for our team has been a distraction,” manager Charlie Manuel said. “Ill be glad when its over.” The defending World Series champion Giants have lost five in a row and eight of nine. They came off a 3-7 homestand that left them last in the NL West. Lannan (3-4) allowed three runs and seven hits in seven innings. “We just have to do our job,” Lannan said. “(Trade rumours) are part of the game. Its one of those things where you have to put it in the back of your mind and play. Its something you cant control.” Barry Zito (4-8) gave up four runs and five hits in 3 1-3 innings. The 2002 AL Cy Young Award winner is 0-7 with a 9.97 ERA on the road. With Wednesdays non-waiver trade deadline approaching and neither team going anywhere, several players could be changing uniforms before the next pitch. The possibility that Philadelphia deals Young increased when the team called up third baseman Cody Asche from Triple-A. Manuel said Asche will be in the lineup Wednesday, so Young will either play first base or move to a contender if he waives his no-trade clause. “My family is a massive consideration in the decision-making process,” Young said when asked where hed like to go. “Ill just leave it at that.” Young almost certainly would welcome a return to the Rangers, where he spent his entire career before coming to the Phillies this season. His family still lives in Texas. “Those things are between me and the Phillies,” he said. Asked if he expected to be traded, Young said: “I really dont know.” Young blamed the Phillies troubles more on injuries than distractions. “We do have the talent here, but a lot of guys have been banged-up,” he said. “We have to take the last two months as a challenge. You have to take pride in the way you play the game.” Ruiz, All-Star lefty Cliff Lee and closer Jonathan Papelbon also could be traded by the Phillies. Lee and Papelbon are good friends, and they sat in the clubhouse chatting for a while after the game. The Giants might consider moving two-time All-Star outfielder Hunter Pence and lefty Javier Lopez. Pence was traded from Houston to Philadelphia on July 29, 2011. The Phillies sent him to the Giants last July 31. “I try not to pay much attention to that,” Pence said. “Just focusing on what I can control. Im trying to do my best to block it out.” Ruiz gave the Phillies a 4-2 lead in the fourth when he lined a shot just over the left field wall. Ruiz, an All-Star last year, had not homered in 176 at-bats since last Sept. 25 against Washington. He began the year with a 25-game suspension for using a banned amphetamine. “I think Carlos showed last year the kind of hitter he can be,” Manuel said. “Hes missed some time and hes had a hard time getting back to where he was.” Young connected off Guillermo Moscoso in the seventh to make it 6-2. Pablo Sandoval drove in San Franciscos first two runs. He had a sacrifice fly in the first inning and his bloop single to right with two outs in the third drove in a run to tie it at 2. Zito struggled through a 45-pitch first inning, allowing two runs. Delmon Young singled in a run with two outs and John Mayberry Jr. walked with the bases loaded. ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals put utilityman Matt Carpenter on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of a strained right side muscle. Carpenter was batting .288 with three home runs and 20 RBIs in 39 games with most of his starts at first base in place of injured Lance Berkman. Carpenter is the fifth player the team has put on the DL this week, following Jon Jay, Allen Craig, Kyle McClellan and Lance Berkman. St. Louis has seven players on the DL altogether. “Its part of the gig, I knew that going in,” manager Mike Matheny said. “Theres a twisted side of most of us that when those challenges come up its hey, you kind of throw your shoulders back a little bit further and here we go.” Rookie Matt Adams made his fourth start at first base Wednesday against the Padres. Carpenter was hurt coming out of the batters box on a double in the first inning Tuesday.dddddddddddd The Cardinals were optimistic after the game that Carpenter might miss only a few games because he was able to torque his body and didnt feel much pain. “The MRI showed something in there,” Matheny said. “I think hes got a really high pain tolerance to where it just didnt seem like it was that big of a deal, but it is.” The Cardinals purchased the contract of catcher Steven Hill from Triple-A Memphis. The 27-year-old Hill has also started at first base, left field and right field, and homered in consecutive games Sunday and Monday. “Hes been swinging the bat pretty well and has a little bit of versatility,” Matheny said. “It seemed like the choice for the time.” Third baseman David Freese was back in the lineup after sitting two games, a mental and physical break for a player in a 3-for-34 slump. SASKATOON – The head coach of the University of Saskatchewans mens hockey team has been given a two-game suspension after he admitted to making a homophobic slur in a private email to his team. Dave Adolph, the bench boss for the Huskies, says in a statement that the words he used in the leaked December email were inappropriate and unprofessional and he apologizes to anyone who may have been offended. Adolph says hes not proud of the homophobic slang he used and that he fully supports gay rights and the You Can Play project, which encourages players, coaches and sports enthusiasts to welcome athletes who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender. The nature of what the coach said has not been revealed and its not clear whether university administration or Huskie Athletics suspended him, but the U of S says its committed to preventing such incidents from happening again. Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hi Kerry, At 8:54 in the third period of Thursdays game between Pittsburgh and Detroit, James Neal was assessed an interference penalty on Luke Glendening for moving his stick towards the board after Glendening had lost it earlier. Glendening was not trying to retrieve it and Neals actions did not interfere with the play. According to rule 53.2 it would appear that the interference call is not justified. Is there something I am missing? Mathieu BenoitSaint John, NB Mathieu: Your question was selected from one of ten pertaining to the interference penalty called against James Neal for shooting Luke Glendenings stick to the side boards with the Penguins on the power play. A very tricky rule application was created after Glendening lost his stick at the top of the Wings end zone face-off circle following an attempted poke-check on James Neal. Glendening lost his one handed grip through the check motion which caused the stick to travel 15 feet to the bottom of the circle close to the goal line where teammate Kyle Quincey was positioned. Quincey then shot/slid Glendenings stick to a carefully placed location out into the high slot near where Glendening was attempting to defend without his stick. Herein lies the first potential rule violation on this play! Rule 10.3 states that a player who has lost or broken his stick may only receive a stick at his own players bench or be handed one from a teammate on the ice. A player will be penalized if he throws, tosses, slides or shoots a stick to a teammate on the ice. Fortunately for the Red Wings, Luke Glendening was fronting Matt Niskanen who had the puck near the point. As such, Glendening was unable to pick up the attempted helper from Quincey. If Luke Glendening had picked up his stick at that moment, Kyle Quincey should receive a minor penalty placing the Wings two men short for a minute and forty seconds! James Neal, from the high slot position just behind Glendening, felt his skate contact the stick that had been illegally passed by Quincey. I am quite certain that James Neal was unaware of the potential penalty to Quincey if Luke Glendening had picked up the twig. Instead, Neal jockeyed around Glendening with a cute series of deliberate skate drag maneuvers that moved the stick safely out of the reach of the Red Wing defender and effectively nullified the potential penalty to Quincey. Even though Glendening moved away from the immediate area of the stick to defend the opposite side point, it was incumbent upon James Neal to simply step away from the stick and leave it in the position it now rested. Once Neal shot Luke Glendenings stick 30 plus feet to the sidewall he violated rule 56.2 by effectively preventing Glendening from regaining possession of it. The inability Neal created for Glendening to retrieve his stick was further compounded by the fact that the Red Wings were already a man down by virtue of the penalty being served by Brendan Smith. The eventual outcome of this play highlights the need for players to clearly understand the rules. Just 20 seconds into a Penguins power play once Luke Glendening lost his hockey stick, things quickly transitioned from a potential penalty to Kyle Quincey that would have placed the Wings two men short; to additional freedom of end zone puck movement the Penguins enjoyed once Glendening lost his stick; to the creation of a four-on-four when James Neal was penalized for interference. I offer the following advice to players: If you encounter a stick lying on the ice that isnt broken, think twice before relocating it. It the stick is clearly broken, make sure any action taken to remove or discard the broken portion doesnt interfere with the movements of the puck or an opposing player! This week they discuss the Philadelphia 76ers, Gregg Popovich, Royal and Ancient Golf Club and Bill Belichick. Bruce Arthur, National Post My thumb is up to the Philadelphia 76ers, proud possessors of a win streak for the first time since two weeks before the Olympics began. Any task worth doing is worth doing with commitment, and while you can argue whether tanking to get a good draft pick should be worth doing, thats the system, and the Sixers have been crafting a masterpiece. Before Saturday night they had lost 26 in a row, 29 of 30, and 36 of 39, and 27 straight losses would have a set a new record for consecutive defeats. But Saturday in Philly, the Sixers pulled one out, blowing out the hapless Detroit Pistons by 25 and getting a standing ovation. It was a raft in an ocean, a blip in the sky. But now, no matter what, they can say this: it could have been worse. Steve Simmons, Sun Media My thumb is up to Gregg Popovich, who just might be the greatest coach in the history of professional sport. And I dont say that lightly with terrific respect for the work done by Scotty Bowman and Phil Jackson and Bill Belichick, and yeah, certainly Vince Lombardi. Put your championships aside for a moment – this is the 15th straight season in which Popovichs San Antonio Spurs have won between 50 and 63 games in the NBA. To put that into perspective, thats the same number of 50-win seasons combined over that time that the Knicks, Celtics, Bulls, Warriors, Nets, Wizards, Pacers, 76ers, Bobcats, Hawks, and Raptors have won. Having Tim Duncan helps. But Duncan at 37 is slowingg down.ddddddddddddHeading to another 60 win season, Gregg Popovich doesnt seem to be. Michael Farber, Sports Illustrated My thumb is up to the R&A, for finally entering a new century. The 20th. The Royal and Ancient is urging its membership to allow women to become members of the venerable St. Andrews golf club in Scotland when it votes in September. This is a mere 260 years after the home of golf was founded, which qualifies as progress. Two other courses in the Open Championship rotation, Muirfield and Royal St. Georges, have yet to tiptoe down this perilous path to equality. By comparison, the nice gentlemen at Augusta National, which started accepting female members in 2012 – hello, Condoleeza Rice! – look like wild-eyed progressives. Dave Hodge, TSN My thumb is up to New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, for making me seem less crazy than others think I am. I have been saying for years that the complexities of video review are confusing and unnecessary, and that a better system would be a very simple system that allows anything to be challenged. And no less an authority than Belichick is leading a push in this direction in the NFL. Never mind “this can be challenged under certain circumstances, but not that under any circumstances”—as Belichick says, “if a coach thinks his team has been victimized by a bad call, he should be able to question it, and its up to him to use the limited number of challenge flags with that in mind.” As I say, "challenges might actually be fewer—same with wrong calls—and replay rules would be simpler. You can challenge those assumptions, but Bill Belichick wont. cheap jerseys whole… jerseys ’ ’ ’

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Although Teemu Selanne has been playing in the NHL for more than two decades, he had never seen anything he could even compare to the goonery in the Anaheim Ducks latest victory. The Vancouver Canucks third-period antics aside, the NHL also hasnt seen much like these Ducks as they cut a swath through the league on their merciless winning streak. Corey Perry had two goals and two assists, Selanne had two goals and an assist, and the steamrolling Ducks beat Vancouver 9-1 Wednesday night for their 18th victory in 19 games. Nick Bonino scored also two goals for the NHL-leading Ducks, who earned their eighth consecutive victory by scoring a club-record six power-play goals against the NHLs best penalty-killing team. The Ducks got those opportunities thanks to a wholesale collapse by the Canucks, who picked up 58 penalty minutes in the third period with several old-time-hockey attempts to start a brawl. With four Canucks in the dressing room for misconduct, Vancouver gave a late seven-minute, two-man advantage to the Ducks, who scored twice to wrap up the highest-scoring performance in the franchises two-decade history. “What happened at the end, I havent really seen before,” said Selanne, who scored his 682nd career goal during the two-man advantage. “It was kind of weird. You dont want to finish the game like that … but this is still a confidence boost for us. Theyre a great team.” Andrew Cogliano, Jakob Silfverberg and Sami Vatanen also scored, and Frederik Andersen made 31 saves as Anaheim joined the 1967-68 Montreal Canadiens as the only teams in league history to win 18 times in a 19-game span. Vatanens score with 38 seconds left pushed the Ducks past the club-record eight goals, accomplished twice previously. Captain Ryan Getzlaf, rookie Hampus Lindholm and Vatanen had two assists apiece while Anaheim scored six power-play goals — one fewer than in their previous 15 games combined. “We just want to keep good habits and keep things fresh,” Cogliano said. “Obviously it got a little out of hand, and thats unfortunate. Ive been on the other side of that, and its not something thats fun.” The Ducks also improved to 20-0-2 at Honda Center, matching San Joses 2008-09 start for the longest home points streak to open a season in the last 34 years. Zack Kassian scored for the Canucks in their seventh loss in eight games. Eddie Lack gave up three goals on 13 shots before getting chased early in the second period, and backup Joacim Eriksson was relentlessly battered in his NHL debut. “It got away from us,” Vancouver captain Henrik Sedin said. “Ive had a lot of disappointing losses. This was up there, but this was not a 9-1 game. This was not a 6-1 game. They had eight or nine minutes of 5-on-3. Theyre going to score when they get that.” Anaheim led 6-0 late in the second period, and the blowout got even uglier after the Ducks went up 7-1 in the third on Perrys 27th goal. Vancouvers Tom Sestito, Jannik Hansen and Kassian all got misconduct penalties with 7:11 to play, and Kevin Bieksa was sent to the showers moments later. “Im not even going to try to explain it,” Vancouver coach John Tortorella said. “One of those nights, so we plow along to our next game and get ready to play. … It does me no good, it does the players no good, to discuss anything that happened here.” Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau, who has seen countless minor-league shenanigans during a long hockey career, wasnt overly upset with the Canucks bush-league behaviour. “There was a lot of frustration on their part,” Boudreau said. “They just started punching our guys. It wasnt the brightest thing to do. What are the refs supposed to do? … It was just an unfortunate game for Vancouver. Im sure their next opponent is going to pay for that.” With just one loss since Dec. 3, Anaheim has opened a six-point lead atop the NHL standings on the defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks, who will host the Ducks on Friday night. The Ducks would have to beat Chicago and St. Louis in back-to-back road games this weekend to match the 1967-68 Canadiens, who won 20 of 21. NOTES: Andersen filled in capably for Jonas Hiller, who sat out with an illness. Hiller has won 14 straight games, the second-longest winning streak by a goalie in NHL history. … The 23-year-old Eriksson, in his first North American season, is filling in for Roberto Luongo, who has been out since Jan. 4. … Selanne is 11th on the NHLs career goals list, trailing Mario Lemieux by eight goals for 10th. Wolf pitched five strong innings for his first big league win in his first start in the majors, David Murphy and Adrian Beltre homered in a three-run first inning, and the Rangers avoided a sweep with a 3-1 victory against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday.A person familiar with the situation says new Detroit head coach Jim Caldwell and Saints assistant Joe Lombardi have a agreed on deal for Lombardi to become the Lions offensive co-ordinator. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Lions have not announced the hiring, which was first reported by ESPN. Lombardi, the grandson of former Green Bay Hall of Fame coach Viince Lombardi, has been an offensive assistant on Sean Paytons New Orleans staff since 2007.dddddddddddd He was named quarterbacks coach in 2009, the season the Saints won their only Super Bowl over the Indianapolis Colts, who were then coached by Caldwell. Saints quarterback Drew Brees has passed for more than 5,000 yards in a season three times with Lombardi as his position coach cheap jerseys whole… jerseys ’ ’ ’

Téma: Jak postupovat / e, being a little older, that arent as

The U.S. and Canada share more than the longest undefended border in the world. We share a love of contemporary music. How else can you explain the popularity of Michael Bolton on both sides of the 49th parallel? Therefore, Jay Onraits move to FOX Sports 1 will not deter him nor TSNs Dave Hodge from counting down their Top 20 Albums of the Year. DAVE HODGES TOP 20 ALBUMS OF 2013 (Free of pithy commentary) 1. Kurt Vile – WAKIN ON A PRETTY DAZE (Best track – Wakin on a Pretty Day) 2. The National — TROUBLE WILL FIND ME (Dont Swallow the Cap) 3. Justin Rutledge — VALLEYHEART (Four Lean Hounds) 4. Mikal Cronin — MCII (Weight) 5. Frank Turner — TAPE DECK HEART (Recovery—SONG OF THE YEAR!) 6. The Sadies — INTERNAL SOUNDS (Starting All Over Again) 7. Phosphorescent — MUCHACHO (Song For Zula) 8. Blue Rodeo — IN OUR NATURE (New Morning Sun) 9. Avett Brothers — MAGPIE AND THE DANDELION (Another Is Waiting) 10. Superchunk — I HATE MUSIC (Me and You and Jackie Mittoo) 11. Foxygen — WE ARE THE 21ST CENTURY AMBASSADORS OF PEACE AND MAGIC 12. Pearl Jam — LIGHTNING BOLT 13. Smith Westerns — SOFT WILL 14. Shelby Earl — SWIFT ARROWS 15. Neko Case — THE WORSE THINGS GET 16. Jake Bugg — SHANGRI-LA 17. Kevin Devine — BUBBLEGUM/BULLDOZER (separate releases) 18. Dropkick Murphys — SIGNED AND SEALED IN BLOOD 19. Sarah Jarosz — BUILD ME UP FROM BONES 20. Houndmouth — FROM THE HILLS BELOW THE CITY JAY ONRAITS TOP 20 ALBUMS OF 2013 1. Vampire Weekend — “Modern Vampires in the City” … I got this album and listened to it once and enjoyed it, and then my friend Pat Thornton of pats24hrs.com fame sent out a tweet that said it was easily their greatest album, and then I replied and said, “Yeah, I think it is a great album,” and then he said, “NO, ITS THE GREATEST!” but he didnt shout because Pat is a gentle man. Bottom line: This is the greatest album this band has put out, a modern classic, and the album of the year for 2013. Pat said so. 2. Foxygen — “We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic” … I bought it on recommendation from a friend, gave it a listen and I havent stopped listening since. Sounds like something that could have come out between “If You Believe Your Eyes and Ears” by the Mamas and the Papas and “John The Wolfking of LA” by John Phillips in the late 60s. Every track is a winner. 3. Kurt Vile — “Wakin on a Pretty Daze” … This is one of those guys who always sounds like he is stoned but insists in every single interview he is NOT stoned even though he cant really get his words out properly and the title of the album is kind of a giveaway. You dont need to be stoned to enjoy it. The songs are long and flowing and full of loopy guitars and … never mind. 4. Deerhunter — “Monomania” … Their last album was my favourite record of 2010 (“Halcyon Digest”), and when I first heard this one I thought, “Oh crap, theyve screwed it up this time.” But as usual I was wrong. Bradford Cox is a little like the Prince of the indie-rock world, recording more material than he can possibly put out and probably storing it somewhere in his purple-coloured mansion for release upon his death. And by “purple-coloured mansion,” I mean his apartment because no one is making money from music anymore. 5. Superchunk — “I Hate Music” … These guys are OLD and they keep putting out great record after great record. Its like the opposite of The Killers. 6. Yo La Tengo — “Fade” … See No. 5. 7. Arcade Fire — “Reflektor” … I have to admit I thought they had gone a little overboard with that special after their Saturday Night Live appearance where Michael Cera was speaking Spanish, and then I thought they had gone a little overboard when they asked all their fans to put on suits and dresses for their concerts, and then I listened to the record. Its really good. James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem handles a lot of the production. I love Regine Chassagnes voice. They might be the biggest band in the world and theyre based in Montreal. I guess I can put on a suit for that. 8. Daft Punk — “Random Access Memories” … When I first moved to L.A., I would leave work at night and put this album on in my car and listen to the first track “Give Life Back To Music” while cruising down the 10 on the way home and it felt very “L.A.” Then I would shut the song off and “Hollywood Nights” by Bob Seger would come on the radio and it felt even more L.A. Then I would get stuck in traffic. 9. Imaginary Cities — “Fall of Romance” … When I was living in Winnipeg, I asked a guy why so many amazing musicians come from that city — Neil Young, The Guess Who, Weakerthans, the list goes on and on. His theory was as follows: If you are a city that is blisteringly cold and covered in snow for at least half the year, you do a lot of drugs and learn to play instruments. I think that may be over-simplifying it a bit, but these guys opened for the Pixies. 10. Neko Case — “The Worse Things Get” … Neko has a very interesting and vulnerable Twitter feed. She is very real and honest about her fears and hopes and loneliness. She also happens to have one of the greatest voices in music today. 11. Best Coast — "Fade Away EP … Speaking of great voices and great social media feeds, Best Coast lead singer and songwriter Bethany Cosentino recently sent out an Instagram pic of Peg Bundy and Kelly Bundy from “Married With Children” in which they said, “I want to do nothing. I want to be nothing,” and she said, “Exactly.” She is also obsessed with Seinfeld. Basically she is perfection. 12. Speedy Ortiz — “Major Arcana” … You had me at “sounds like early 90s indie rock.” 13. Ty Segall — “Sleeper” … This is a pretty mellow effort from a guy who puts out an album a year. Sometimes three. Having said that (as Larry David would say), this might be his best. 14. Parquet Courts — “Light Up Gold” … See No. 12. 15. Mikal Cronin — “MCII” … This guy plays bass and sings in Ty Segalls backup band, and Ty Segall is pretty much constantly touring so it must have been tough to find the time to record this album. But thank God he did! It sounds like modern day Matthew Sweet! 16. Waxahatchee — “Cerulean Salt” … And this one sounds like modern day PJ Harvey! All the songs are amazing. This is the kind of album you should buy for that mysterious and somewhat standoffish girl at work youre trying to court but she clearly thinks youre an idiot. This will show her. This will show her you ARE an idiot but you have good taste in music. 17. Volcano Choir — “Repave” … Bon Iver guy Justin Vernons other group. If I told you this was the new Bon Iver album you would just shrug and say, “Sounds pretty good! When is he on SNL again, and is he bringing that big guy who plays the chimes and trombone?” or something to that effect. 18. Brendan Canning — “You Gots 2 Chill” … I saw Brendan recently and forgot to ask him this: Was the title of this album some motivational message he wrote himself on a Post-It note that he stuck on the fridge one night after he got a bit too passionate during a drunken argument with friends? Ill bet it was. Not that Im speaking from experience or anything (Im speaking from experience). Perfect Sunday morning record. Also youre supporting a hard-working Canadian artist here, so get the vinyl! 18. Tegan and Sara — “Heartthrob” … I remember when I was hosting The Big Breakfast in Winnipeg and our Producer had just come from The Big Breakfast in Calgary and she told us they would have Tegan and Sara on the show all the time because they were born and raised in Calgary. I really loved Tegan and Sara and hoped we might get them to appear on our show as well. That never happened because they became huge stars. I couldnt have been happier for them, but I really think they would have liked our coffee. 19. (tie) Local Natives — “Hummingbird”/Camera Obscura — “Desire Lines” … Good, but I was expecting better. Like Larry Davids “Clear History” or “Man of Steel” or “Hooters Restaurant.” 20. My Bloody Valentine — “mbv” … Like the opposite of “Chinese Democracy.” . The Trail Blazers lead the first-round series 3-2 entering Game 6 on Friday in Portland. A basket by Damian Lillard got the Trail Blazers within two points before James Harden stepped back and swished a 3-pointer to make it 103-98 with about three minutes left. . Johnson spent the last five seasons with Pittsburgh after being taken in the seventh round of the 2009 draft. He played in 52 games with 26 starts, totalling 22 catches for 216 yards and a touchdown. http://www.authenticgiantsonline.com/harry-cars…. The 32-year-old native of Mont-Tremblant, Que., said on his Twitter account that his knee was bothering him. Guay underwent knee surgery over the summer, then returned for the start of the World Cup season after an intensive rehab program. . The teams official Twitter account quoted coach John Tortorella on Friday saying that Kesler “has a sprained knee and is out at least a couple of weeks”. . Aduriz headed home Markel Susaetas cross in the sixth minute to open the scoring at San Mames Stadium. He bettered that with a long-range blast that went in off the goal frame in the 18th, and converted a penalty in the 72nd after Diego Mainz was sent off for fouling Aduriz with only the goalkeeper to beat.In the end, Mike Weir didnt win the HP Byron Nelson. And yet he emerged from the tournament with perhaps something just as important as a first-place cheque and a trophy. Weir got a sign, an indication that all the work he put in, all the hours he spent on the range, the rehab he did after elbow surgery, the tinkering with clubs and instructors, and fighting off the naysayers who told him he was done, has been worth it. Sure it was just one tournament and it will take a few more solid performances to show that the magic has returned for good for Canadas favourite lefthander, but if nothing else, Weir can claim salvation. He knows that he can do it, play golf on the PGA Tour at the highest level. Weir led the tournament early on Sunday, rattling off four birdies in the first five holes. Bogeys at six and nine dropped him out of top spot and although he fought back valiantly at the end, his run came up just short. Brendan Todd pulled out a two-shot win with a sparkling bogey-free final round. For many, Weirs performance was a surprise. But for some time now, hes has been telling all that his ball-striking has been in form but an uncooperative putter is all thats been holding him back. At the Masters there were blips that proved what he was saying. He climbed to within a shot of the lead during the second round and he had three solid rounds at the Wells Fargo before being derailed with a final-round 77. This week, it finally worked, thanks in part to exchanging an oversized putter grip with a well-worn, thin one that was on an old putter. He finished second in Strokes Gained – Putting and first in Putts in Greens in Regulation. Despite his confidence and unwavering optimism, Weir has, at times, questioned his future during his struggles. Over the past four years, hes had doubts. There were doubts when he missed 18 straight cuts and fell outside the top 1,000 in the Official World Golf Ranking. There were doubts when he had to use up two career money list exemptions to keep playing. There were doubts when he earned a grand total of $23,312 over a two-year stretch in 2011-12. But Mike Weir never lost hope. He believed he would get back, if not to the point of winning another major then at least to where he could compete on the PGA Tour. The amount of time Weir put into his game, to trying to find an answer would wear out most professionals. And to be sure, there were a few dead ends he went down. But thats all now in the past. Weir said he has no plans to loook in the rear-view mirror.dddddddddddd “I dont think I will, to be honest,” said Weir on the last four years. “Im here now and Im pushing forward. Ive been asked that question a lot, Ive answered it a lot. I am where I am now and Im pushing forward. Im not going to reflect on the past; thats history now. Im playing good golf and I want to keep that going.” Still, he hasnt forgotten just how difficult this stretch has been. And as his game deteriorated after hitting a root at the 2011 Heritage, the questions increased, questions about his game and his ability to still compete. “I just knew that it was inevitable,” Weir said of the constant inquiry. “I didnt take offence to it. It was matter of fact – I was playing poorly. I was trying to dig myself out of it. I didnt have any explanation for it except what got me into it, which was obviously the elbow issue, having surgery then trying to play through that and then basically being afraid to hit the ground, the bad habits I got into and probably coming back a little bit early.” The bad habits piled on. One caused another and then another. At times, Weir struggled with the driver so badly, it was frightening. During one round where he shot 78, one of his playing partners told me later that if his short game wasnt all-world, Weir might have shot 90. But he stuck with it, kept working and now is finally seeing the fruits of his labour. “I dont know if my swing is that much different really,” said Weir. “There are some aspects of my game, being a little older, that arent as dynamic as they used to be. But at the same time there are things that are a little better. I have a little better understanding of things. Ive learned a lot from a couple of teachers Ive used the past couple of years. I think thats helped me too.” The finish provided a long list of accomplishments for Weir: His first top 10 since 2010; the first time hes led a tournament since 2007; the first time since last years John Deere that hes had four rounds in the 60s; a cheque for $745,200 (US), and a move of 100 spots on the FedEx Cup point list to 87th. While there are no guarantees, it should be enough to allow him to keep his playing privileges for the 2014-15 season. Of course all those are just numbers. What truly matters most for Mike Weir is being able to play golf and enjoy himself once again. The smile as he walked off the 18th green on Sunday was evidence of that.
