PHOENIX — The perils of baseballs new replay rule figured prominently in the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants Tuesday night. In the fourth inning, the Diamondbacks A.J. Pollock raced home on a passed ball and was called safe by home plate umpire Eric Cooper. Replays showed Giants pitcher Matt Cain appeared to tag Pollock before the runner crossed the plate. But there was nothing Giants manager Bruce Bochy could do about it. He had used up his challenge moments earlier in a failed attempt to reverse a safe call on a pickoff attempt of Pollock at first. “Good thing I made that play close at first,” Pollock quipped. “It was all part of the master plan.” Even Arizona manager Kirk Gibson seemed to think Pollock should have been called out. “It looked to me like it wasnt good for us,” Gibson said, “but he called him safe.” Bochy already had been out of the dugout twice when he chose to challenge the pickoff play. “What else are you going to do if you think they didnt get the call right?” he said. “Unfortunately they are not all going to go your way or get overturned, but that is the gamble you take. Sure there could be another play but you dont know that.” The run cut the Giants lead to 4-3. “He was out. I had him,” Cain said. "I saw what Cooper saw. He saw that it looked like he went over the plate but he went through the top of my glove to go over it. " Pollock broke out of an 0-for-13 start to the season with three hits, scoring twice and driving in a run. Wade Miley (1-1) gave up four runs in the first inning, and then blanked the Giants for the next six, retiring 15 in a row in one stretch “The offence did a great job of kind of picking me up,” he said. “I was down. I gave up the four-spot and was able to kind of overcome it. I knew if I just held it right there, weve got a pretty good lineup in here, and wed have a pretty good chance to get back on top.” Gerardo Parra had two hits and the sacrifice fly that scored to the go-ahead run in the sixth inning. Brandon Belt hit a three-run home run in the first, his second homer in as many games. Addison Reed, who gave up the game-winning home run to Buster Posey Monday night, pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save with the Diamondbacks. Pinch-hitter Hector Sanchez reached second with one out in the ninth when Arizona rookie shortstop Chris Owings misjudged a pop fly to short left and it dropped for a double. But Brandon Crawford fouled out to the catcher and Juan Perez struck out looking to end the game. Pollock, dropped from the leadoff spot to No. 8 in the order, beat out an infield single in the first, singled and scored in the fourth, then doubled in a run and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth. Paul Goldschmidt was 2 for 4 with an RBI double, extending his hitting streak to 23 games. Owings had two hits and a stolen base. Juan Guiterrez (0-1) went two innings to take the loss in relief of Cain. The Diamondbacks scored twice in the sixth to take the lead. Owings singled with one out, stole second and scored on Pollocks ground-rule double to left-centre. Miley singled, an then Pollock scored from third on Parras sacrifice fly to left, sliding in barely ahead of Perezs throw. San Francisco jumped on Miley in a hurry. Singles by Angel Pagan, Pablo Sandoval and Posey brought in the first run. Then Belt hit Mileys 1-0 pitch into the swimming pool area in right field and it was 4-0. Arizona got two in the bottom of the first. Parra led off with a single and came home on Goldschmidts double to deep right-centre. Goldschmidt scored on Martin Prados single. Cain left with a 4-3 lead after five innings. He gave up two earned runs, struck out two and walked two. Will Harris pitched a scoreless eighth for the Diamondbacks. Notes: Posey is 8 for 17 in his career against Miley. … In Wednesday nights third game of the four-game series, Tim Hudson makes his Giants debut, while Trevor Cahill (0-1) goes for Arizona. … The Diamondbacks Miguel Montero walked three times, once intentionally. … Arizonas Mark Trumbo twice grounded in to inning-ending double plays. … The attendance of 18,974 was just under 30,000 below Monday nights turnout. ORLANDO, Fla. — Eric Winston was elected president of the NFL Players Association on Wednesday, three years after he was active for the union during the lockout. The 30-year-old offensive lineman was the Arizona Cardinals starting right tackle last season, his eighth in the league. He is currently a free agent. Winston succeeds Domonique Foxworth as NFLPA president. Foxworth was out of the league last season and so could not seek re-election. NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith tweeted: “Thank you to @Foxworth24 and all the Executive Committee for their leadership. Congratulations to Eric Winston. Lots of great work ahead.” The other candidates for president were New Orleans Saints tight end Ben Watson and former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark, who is a free agent. Watson and Clark will both serve on the executive committee elected later Wednesday by the unions board of representatives. Clark joined Lorenzo Alexander and Jay Feely of the Cardinals, Zak DeOssie and Mark Herzlich of the Giants, Adam Vinatieri of the Colts, and Scott Wells of the Rams as new members of the executive committee. Watson, Matt Hasselbeck of the Colts, and free agent Brian Waters were re-elected. Saints quarterback Drew Brees stepped down from the executive committee. Winston has played for Houston, Kansas City and Arizona since being chosen by the Texans in the third round of the 2006 draft. He played his first six NFL seasons with the Texans, joined the Chiefs in 2012, then moved to the Cardinals last season. Winston has started 112 consecutive games. He has served on the unions committees for finance and agent discipline and does community work on behalf of Shriners Hospital for Children. Winston was elected as a co-alternate union representative by the Texans in 2010. While in Kansas City, he drew plenty of national attention early in the 2012 season, when he criticized Chiefs fans who cheered when the teams then-quarterback, Matt Cassel, got a concussion during a game. “Its 100 per cent sickening,” Winston said that day. “Ive never, ever — and Ive been in some rough times on some rough teams — Ive never been more embarrassed in my life to play football than at that moment right there.” Bruce Bochy Giants Jersey .C. — Cameron Gaunce scored in overtime to lift the Texas Stars to a 4-3 win over the Abbotsford Heat in American Hockey League action Wednesday. Lawson had some harsh words for his teammates following Denvers 112-97 loss to Golden State on Saturday - and for good reason. It marked the third time in the last two weeks that the Nuggets fell to a sub.500 team and dropped them into the No. 8 seed in the West with Phoenix and Utah only a game behind. Instead of enhancing its playoff position, Denver is now on the fringe of the playoffs as the regular season winds down. “Its getting ridiculous at this point,” said Lawson, who had 21 points and six assists. “Were losing to teams we should never … that we shouldnt lose to, especially with the magnitude of whats going on in the season with the playoff run and where were at. We cant be losing these games.” A day after a 105-99 victory over Phoenix, Denver came out fast but finished flat against a Warriors team that had lost 12 of its previous 15 games and is playing without Stephen Curry. This one is bound to stick with the Nuggets for a bit. They jumped out to an early lead behind Aaron Afflalo and had the Warriors on their heels before Golden State rallied to win at home for just the third time since March 1. “Whatever flow we had going in the first, we didnt have for the last two or three quarters,” said Afflalo, who finished with 16 points. “We need to string some games together simply for our playoff positioning and hopes. Its almost a must. We kind of have to.” David Lee had 17 points and nine rebounds, and the Warriors got a big lift from their reserves to put the dent in Denvers playoff hopes. Brandon Rush added 20 points, Nate Robinson had 14 points and seven assists, and Richard Jefferson scored 10 points to help Golden State, which also outrebounded the Nuggets and scored 58 points in the paint. “Were trying to continue to be aggressive,” Lee said. “We know that jumpshots come and go but Nate got in the paint a bunch tonight, as did Charles (Jenkins). I tried to be an insidee threat as well.dddddddddddd I think it really feeds into our overall game.” Nuggets coach George Karls team has dropped both of its games with Golden State this season and doesnt have much time to find a solution. The teams play again in Denver on Monday. Coming off a 30-point night Friday, Afflalo had 13 in the first quarter, including a leaning 19-footer with the Warriors Klay Thompson draped over him as the shot clock buzzer sounded. That was about as good as it got for the Nuggets. After Rushs 32-footer as time expired in the opening period pulled Golden State within 27-26, Lee and Dominic McGuire combined for 15 points in the second quarter to help the Warriors go up by seven at the break. The Nuggets trailed by as much as 17 and looked nothing like a team in the thick of a playoff hunt before making their best run of the night in the third behind Al Harrington. The former Warrior scored eight points in just over two minutes, raising his arms to the booing crowd at Oracle Arena after his fourth 3-pointer of the night cut Golden States lead to 79-71. Harrington later earned a delay of game penalty that resulted in a technical foul. Denver, still playing without injured forward Danilo Gallinari, got within 92-87 on Andre Millers reverse layup with 7:32 left in the fourth but managed only four buckets the rest of the way. “Its exciting to peek every now and that at what we will be,” Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. “But we have to make sure that we stay true to the process and continue to do the things that put us in position to one day be real good.” NOTES: Denver, which tied a franchise record with only five turnovers in Fridays victory, had eight in the first quarter alone against Golden State and finished with 16 overall. … Nuggets G Wilson Chandler underwent a second MRI on his strained groin but results were not disclosed. With the Major League Baseball season down to one or two games, the Toronto Blue Jays are already planning out a possible move for next spring. MLB.com reports that the Blue Jays have interest in acquiring second baseman Gordon Beckham from the Chicago White Sox and adds that general manager Alex Anthopoulos is intent on upgrading the infield position. Anthopoulos has recently stated that second base, left field and starting pitching are areas of need going into next season. Beckham, who hit .267 with five homers and 24 RBIs this season, is eligible for arbitration this offseason and remains under club control with the White Sox through the 2015 campaign. CHICAGO — Yadier Molina had a simple goal for his ninth-inning at-bat with the bases loaded and the score tied on Sunday. “I was looking not to strike out,” he said. After fouling off some tough two-strike pitches, Molina hit a ground-ball single up the middle to drive in two runs and the St. Louis Cardinals snapped out of an offensive funk with a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs. “I got a little lucky that they were playing me to pull,” Molina said. “It was a good at-bat. I was able to put the ball in play and good things happened.” The defending National League champions had lost four of five to fall a game below .500. The Cardinals scored all their runs with two outs. Molina, moved into the No. 2 spot to jump start the lineup, was 0 for 4 before coming through in the ninth. But it was a wild pitch in the seventh inning that allowed the Cubs to tie the score at 3 that had Molina more frustrated. The pitch from reliever Carlos Martinez was in the dirt and trickled through Molinas legs, allowing Luis Valbuena to score. “I was there,” Molina said. “I dont know. Its one of those things. I was ready for it and the ball still goes through my legs.” Kevin Siegrist (1-1) got the win in relief, while Trevor Rosenthal picked up his eighth save in as many opportunities despite a scare in the ninth inning. Hector Randon (0-1) took the loss for the Cubs, who were attempting to win four straight games for the first time since July. While Cardinals manager Mike Matheny had looked for Molina, one of his hottest hitters, to get the offence going, it was a couple of struggling batters at the bottom of the lineup that got things started early. With two outs in the second inning and Jhonny Peralta on first base, Randal Grichuk drilled a triple into the right-centre field gap for a 1-0 lead. Mark Ellis, who went 3 for 4, followed with a double to left-centre to make it 2-0. Both Grichuk (.167) and Ellis (.143) entered hitting well below .200. St. Louis stretched the lead to 3-0 in the third as Matt Adams doubled home Matt Holiday. The Cubs pulled within 3-2 in the fourth with some clutch two-out hitting. With one out, Ryan Kalish singled and John Baker walked. After a groundout moved the runners to second and third, Cubs starter Jason Hammel singled to right to drive in both. Molinas go-ahead single to centre came on the sixth pitch of the at-bat from Randon. “I thought I made a good pitch today, but something happened,” Randon said. Molina seemed more relieved that the wild pitch wasnt a factor than he drove in the game-deciding runs. “(Molina) does a good job of not wearing his emotions and how frustrating that is for him,” Matheny said. “Its hard to count the number of balls he keeps in front of him, the number of runs he saves. Its something we dont take for granted.” Valbuena doubled in a run with two outs in the ninth to make it 5-4, but Rosenthal got Anthony Rizzo to ground out to end the game. “Guys kept grinding it out,” Cubs manager Rick Renteria said. “We just fell a little short.” NOTES: The ESPN broadcast team of Dan Shulman and John Kruk worked from the bleachers. … While making a rehab start Sunday with Double A Springfield, LHP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) was hit by a pitch on the left elbow and left after two innings and 28 pitches. “I think they went in and took precautionary X-rays,” Matheny said. “I havent heard anything back yet.” … In the same game, RHP Jason Motte threw a scoreless inning, striking out three, in his first rehab outing. … Rizzo entered with a .429 on-base percentage, which was fifth-best in the National League. … The Cards open a series in Atlanta on Monday, with RHP Shelby Miller (3-2) facing RHP Aaron Harang, while the Cubs host the crosstown White Sox with RHP Jeff Samardzija (0-3) going up against LHP Jose Quintana (1-2). wholesale jerseys . This week they discuss Maple Leafs defenceman Paul Ranger, Floyd Mayweather, the Washington Capitals decision to let Alex Ovechkin participate in the Olympic torch relay and the Washington Redskins nickname. Bruce Arthur, National Post: My thumb is up to Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Paul Ranger. Ranger was a top-four defenceman for Tampa Bay when in 2009 he asked for a leave of absence from the team and for his salary to be withheld. He didnt come back. After two years he resurfaced to help coach his old bantam triple-A team in Whitby. And last year he asked Toronto for an AHL-only contract and excelled. Now hes a Leaf. He wont say what specifically kept him away, but he talks about how strong he feels inside, how the mental side of the game is so important and how proud he is that hes come this far. Were not hard to root for people in this business, but Ill say this: for Paul Ranger its not hard to make an exception. Steve Simmons, Sun Media: My thumb is up to Floyd Mayweather Jr., the only breakout star left in the dwindling attraction that is boxing. Money Mayweather was at his best Saturday night in Las Vegas putting on another clinic of both pugilism and commerce winning just about every round against the capable Canelo Alvarez and taking home a guaranteed purse of $41.5 million to boot. Mayweather was as slippery as ever in the Super Welterweight title bout, nearly impossible to hit, counter-punching, utilizing his incomparable hand speed. The onlyy downfall to the one-sided win was one of the ringside judges, C.ddddddddddddJ. Ross, myopically scored the fight a draw. Anyone who watched from around the world knew better. Michael Farber, Sports Illustrated: My thumb is up to simple common sense, which the Washington Capitals showed in the not-insignificant matter of Alex Ovechkin and the Olympic torch relay. The Capitals are allowing Ovechkin a quick trip to Greece to carry the torch from Mount Olympus even though it will occur only two days before the team opens – eight time zones away – in Chicago. Washington might have a travel-weary captain against the Blackhawks, but my guess is this conspicuously proud Russian will be energized by the torch honour. Ovechkin had a slow start to his Hart-winning 2013 season. This Olympic hors doeuvre is the thing that might light a fire under him. Dave Naylor, TSN: My thumb is up to the growing number of voices calling for the Washington Redskins to find a new nickname. Recently the chorus of those crying for change added two prominent American journalists: Peter King of Sports Illustrated and Christine Brennan of USA Today who, among others, said they will no longer use the word in their work. More significantly, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell appears to be changing his tune, talking about the “need to be listening” and to “do the right thing.” Many, including Goodell, have pointed out that the Redskins name represents an important piece of the NFLs history. But history is exactly where that name belongs. Cheap NFL Jerseys ’ ’ ’ ave Naylor, TSN: My thumb is up to the growing number of voices calling for the Washington Redskins to find a new nickname. DETROIT – Max Scherzer was ready for all the questions — and he doesnt seem to mind that his contract status is such a big topic as spring training approaches. “I figured you guys wanted to talk about it, but this is the perfect time, during the off-season, when were not playing baseball,” Scherzer said. Scherzer was at Comerica Park on Thursday for the start of the Detroit Tigers winter caravan. He recently agreed to a one-year, $15,525,000 deal with the Tigers, avoiding arbitration but leaving plenty of questions still unanswered about his future. Scherzer, last years AL Cy Young Award winner, can become a free agent after this season. He says he has no problem fielding questions about his future now, before spring training starts. By the time opening day rolls around, though, hell be focused on pitching. So theres a sense the clock is ticking if the Tigers want to lock up their star right-hander before he reaches free agency. Detroit signed ace Justin Verlander to a $180 million, seven-year deal shortly before last season, avoiding the prospect of Verlander testing the open market. But Verlander was two seasons away from free agency. Scherzer has only one more to go. “Every player wants to be a free agent,” Scherzer said. “At the same time, you realize weve got a good thing here in Detroit.” The Tigers have won three straight AL Central titles, and Scherzer went 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA last season, winning the Cy Young two years after Verlander did. General manager Dave Dombrowski didnt offer many specifics about the status of negotiations with Scherzer, but he left no doubt about how the organization feels about the 29-year-old pitcher. “I would not characterize our discussion as strong, weak, anything other than we are hopeful that wed like to have him in the organization for an extended time,” Dombrowski said. “I know he has expressed a desire that hed like to stay here. Hopefully that leads to a position where something can happen.” A couple recent deals have given Scherzer a sense of the type of contract that could await him. Clayton Kershaw, a two-time Cy Young winner who is four years younger than Scherzer, reached a $215 million, seven-year agreement to stay with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Japanese star Masahiro Tanaka came to terms with the New York Yankees for $155 million over seven years. “Owners are making more money, and therefore players are going to make more money,” Scherzer said. “You have new TV money coming in. Thats good for everybody involved. Its win-win for the owners and for the players.” Scherzer says his arm feels good, and that hell keep working to improve. He said his curveball can still progress, for example. “Theres always things you can tinker with in spring training. Its a great time to practice and try new things,” he said. The question is whether this might be his final season in Detroit, but thats not a prospect Scherzer is too worked up about right now. “I love it here in Detroit. This is a great team, weve got so much talent, weve been together for so long, and Im comfortable,” Scherzer said. “Obviously this is a place I want to play, and thats why I said hopefully we can get something done before spring training.” Sebastian Janikowski Womens Jersey Elite . – Adam Scott didnt have to look as far down the leaderboard to find players who suddenly are a real threat to win at Bay Hill. As soon as Bob Bryans overhand smash on match point zipped past Britains Dominic Inglot and Colin Fleming, the celebration was on. Bob and identical twin Mike leaped into the air to do the famed chest bump they use to celebrate their victories. The Bryans 6-2, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 victory Saturday pulled the United States to 2-1 against Britain in the first round of the Davis Cup and ended the brothers Davis Cup losing streak at two. “Weve been waiting a long time to get another opportunity to get that bad taste out of our mouth,” Bob Bryan said. “It always feels bad to let the team down. We were kind of coming out of our shoes, really itching to get on the court.” The twins had a mini-chest bump after breaking Inglots serve to take a 2-0 lead in the fourth set. The match will be decided Sunday in reverse singles, when Wimbledon winner Andy Murray of Britain faces Sam Querrey. If Querrey can somehow pull an upset, it will then come down to James Ward of Britain against Donald Young. Murray won the opening singles match in straight sets against Young on Friday while Ward rallied to beat Querrey in five sets. “We brought some good energy. Now its our job to get behind Sam and fire up for tomorrow,” Bob Bryan said. “Sam has a win over Andy. What do you tell him?” U.S. coach Jim Courier said. "He has to play better than he did yesterday to stand a chance. Andy is a great player who plays well under pressure and tomorrow is going to be one of those matches, where Andy knows if he loses then everything is on the table in that fifth match. “For Sam its a free swinging match,” Courier added. “So hopefully hell go out there and let it fly.” With Britain leading 2-0 entering Saturday, captain Leon Smith replacced Murray with Inglot for doubles.dddddddddddd Courier said the Americans werent surprised by the switch by the British. “We had every game plan on the table and we prepared in the warmup for Inglot,” he said. The Bryans broke Inglots serve in the second game of the first set and then broke Flemings serve to win the set. The Bryans didnt face a break point until they trailed 30-40 in the sixth game of the third set. Fleming hit a backhander down the line to win the game for a 4-2 lead for the British. The teams held serve and the British won the set when Inglot had two straight aces in the ninth game. Fleming said the British were hoping to pull off an upset to make Sundays matches moot. “There is no doubt that yesterday sets us up in a position where we could go out there and have a really good go at the match,” he said. "We spoke before the match. Obviously they were big favourites, but we felt like if we could go out there and just focus on the tennis match, we would have a chance of causing an upset and winning the tie today. “Thats why were disappointed because we didnt play as well as we were hoping for. You know, credit to the Bryans.” The Bryans “take it to you every single time,” Inglot said. “Theyre never going to give you any free points. Theyre always going to put it in the court on the big points and always going to make you play.” The match is being played on a red clay court in a temporary stadium built against the left-field bleachers at Petco Park, the downtown home of baseballs San Diego Padres. Three World Group matches have been clinched with 3-0 scores: Switzerland over Serbia, Germany against Spain and France against Australia. In other matches, the Czech Republic leads Netherlands 2-1, Japan leads Canada 2-1 and Italy leads Argentina 2-1. Cheap NFL Jerseys ’ ’ ’

TAMPA, Fla. — Henrik Lundqvist had a positive return performance to help the New York Rangers pull out a one-goal victory. Lundqvist made 37 saves in his first start in four games, and Mats Zuccarello had a goal and two assists in the Rangers 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night. “Sometimes its a good thing to get a lot of work,” Lundqvist said. "Theres been a lot of games where Ive been waiting for shots, and then theres been some odd-man rushes or breakaways, and its been hard to really get the game going. “A game like this definitely helps you to work on your positioning and a lot of different things, so Im pleased with the win and the way I played.” Lundqvist watched from the bench as backup Cam Talbot started the previous three games, winning two, after Lundqvist struggled through a 1-4-2 stretch. “He played a real strong game, gave us a chance to win, especially in the third when they had a real strong push and they were tough to handle,” Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said. “He had some huge saves to make, and he did.” Rick Nash, Chris Kreider and Benoit Pouliot also scored for the Rangers, who had three power-play goals. Ryan McDonagh and Derick Brassard had two assists each. Tampa Bay got goals from Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat and Valtteri Filppula. The Lightning were coming off a 2-1 shootout loss Saturday night to Montreal. “They earned that victory,” Lightning captain Martin St. Louis said. “We got what we deserved.” The Rangers went up 4-2 on second-period, power-play goals by Kreider and Pouliot. Kreider beat Anders Lindback with a backhander at 4:35, and Pouliot extended his point streak to seven games with an in-close redirection 3:16 later. Tampa Bay pulled within 4-3 on Filppulas tip-in 8:14 into the third. It was one of 16 shots the Lightning had on Lundqvist during the period. “Hank was our best player,” Zuccarello said. “He played really well for us. They had numerous chances, and we were a little bit nervous there in the third period.” After Johnson tied it with a power-play goal at 10:41 of the first, Palat scored a rebound goal from the left circle to make it 2-1 with 3:55 left in the period. Nash snapped his seven-game goal drought to put the Rangers up 1-0 just 4:30 into the game. Derek Stepan set up the goal after stealing a pass by Lightning defenceman Radko Gudas. Zuccarello got the Rangers even at 2 during a power play when his pass into the low slot deflected off Gudas into the net at 18:25. The centre assisted on goals by Kreider and Pouliot. “I dont think Ive seen us mismanage the puck more,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. “That was painful to watch, to be honest.” NOTES: Lightning star Steven Stamkos, out since breaking his right leg on Nov. 11, did a series of agility drills during a 30 minute on-ice workout. Klay Thompson, David Lee and Harrison Barnes all finished with 15 points. Curry raced out with 17 points in the first 8:30, hitting all five of his 3 point attempts as the Warriors opened a 20-point lead in the first quarter. “We tried to come out with a sense of urgency. Thats been a big problem in the first three games,” said Curry. “As a team we havent started games off well and theyve gotten a double-digit lead each first quarter. So we moved the ball well, guys set great screens and we executed at a higher pace. When we do that, were tough to guard.” Warriors head coach Mark Jackson inserted Draymond Green into the starting lineup in place of Jermaine ONeal. Green only finished with four points, but Golden State got the victory. The Clippers pulled within nine in the fourth but did not climb out of the mammoth hole. Jamal Crawford and Blake Griffin led the club with 26 and 21 points, respectively. Chris Paul finished with 16 points, followed by 12 from J.J. Redick and 10 out of Matt Barnes. By Tuesdays tip, the Clippers should know the fate of Sterling and hopefully will get closer to closure. Either way, the series must go on. “I just believe when the game starts, the game starts and nobody cares anymore,” Rivers said following the loss. “Golden State surely didnt care.” Game 6 will be Thursday night back at Oracle Arena. After surrendering four goals on 28 shots in Canadas 5-4 shootout loss to the Czech Republic on Saturday, Jake Paterson will watch the Slovak game from the bench. Halifax Mooseheads goaltender Zach Fucale will make his tournament debut, getting the start against Slovakia. The 18-year-old netminder is not worried about having watched the entire tournament from the bench thus far. “It hasnt been difficult at all, I think, for me,” Fucale told TSN. “I just wanted to be supportive and stay ready all the time. Tomorrow Im just going to get in the net and play the best game I can. Thats all that I can really do.” The Canadiens draftee did stress the importance of coming up big against Slovakia, however. “We all want to be in those big games and its not the Finals yet, so tomorrow we have to give our best performance,” he said. Paterson has started every game since Canadas second pre-tournament game against Sweden on Dec. 22. In four games he has posted a 2.50 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage, posting marks of 3.00 and .885 in tournament play so far. The change in net could also mean a different plan of attack for the Canadian defence. “Zach plays the puck pretty well, so it almost makes it easier sometimes for a defenceman,” said Canadian assistant captain Mathew Dumba. The Minnesota Wild defenceman stressed that the Canadian team is confident in its ability regardless of who is between the pipes. "Were very confident in both of our goalies and I think we played good with them both in the pre-competition," Dumba told TSN.dddddddddddd “I dont think thats something we have to worry about at all.” Fucale last started in Canadas first pre-tournament game: a 4-2 comeback win over Finland. He stopped 11 of the 13 shots Finland threw at the net, steadying his play after a shaky start. Does that mean Fucale could also get the start in the potentially-group-deciding New Years Eve match-up against the United States? “I dont know. I guess lets see how he plays and well determine that after the game tomorrow,” said Team Canada coach Brent Sutter. “I told you guys at the start: Im taking this game-by-game.” Coach Sutter also offered up some insight on the play of 16-year-old Connor McDavid on Sunday, telling TSN that there is little to worry about from the young sniper based on just the Czech game. Sutter and McDavid spoke for a few minutes after Sundays skate, the coach offering the following analysis. “Its one game and you guys make a bigger deal out of it than it is,” Sutter quipped. “He played 13 minutes last night and, yeah, maybe he didnt have the game that he wouldve liked to have, but, that being said, hes a very important part of this team and if it wasnt Connor McDavid and it was somebody else here you guys wouldnt even be talking about it.” McDavid split time with Taylor Leier on a line with Bo Horvat and Sam Reinhart late in Saturdays game, but would get the tap to be one of Canadas three shooters in the game-deciding shootout. His attempt would be stopped by Czech goalkeeper Marek Langhamer, opening the door for Dominik Simons game-winner on the next attempt. Cheap NFL Jerseys ’ ’ ’

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Doug Whaley was willing to risk future draft picks for the opportunity to land receiver Sammy Watkins and put the Buffalo Bills in a position to make the playoffs this season. In his first NFL draft as the Bills general manager, Whaley struck a deal with the Cleveland Browns to move up five spots to select the Clemson receiver with the fourth pick on Thursday night. To get Watkins, Buffalo gave up its No. 9 pick this year, plus a first and a fourth-round pick in next years draft. “We thought it was a calculated risk, and a risk we were willing to take,” said Whaley, who took over after Buddy Nix stepped down a year ago. “The high cost of not making the playoffs is something we weighed, and we thought this guy was going to get us to the playoffs.” The Bills are coming off their third consecutive six-win season. Theyve also gone 14 seasons without a playoff berth - the NFLs longest active drought. Watkins has the potential of providing the Bills sputtering offence a dynamic threat. And he addresses the objective Whaley outlined in the weeks leading up to the draft: add talent to spur the development of quarterback EJ Manuel, who is coming off an inconsistent and injury-shortened rookie season. “Hes automatically going to make our quarterback better and us better as a team,” Whaley said. Manuel expressed his excitement by posting 16 exclamation marks on his Twitter account after Watkins was picked. Buffalo finished last year 19th in total yards gained, and 29th in yards passing. Manuel had his development stunted by three separate knee injuries that led to him missing six regular season and two preseason games. He finished with a 4-6 record with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Watkins, listed at just over 6-feet and 211 pounds, put up eye-popping numbers during his three-year college career. He finished with 240 catches for 3,391 yards and 27 touchdowns in 29 starts, and set 23 school records. Watkins joined Rod Gardner as the only Clemson players to have multiple seasons topping 1,000 yards receiving. And hes the only Tigers player to score more than 10 touchdowns receiving in more than one season. Last year, Watkins had 101 catches for 1,464 yards and 12 touchdowns. Watkins was so excited to be drafted that he took a picture of himself and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell at the draft podium at Radio City Music Hall. And Watkins can fully appreciate the burden of expectation placed on his shoulders in knowing what the Bills traded away to draft him. “That is a lot, but for me, I think I am prepared,” he said. “I need to be 100 per cent when I get there. I need to be starting off on the right foot.” Watkins is friends with former Clemson running back C.J. Spiller, who was Buffalos first-round pick in the 2010 draft. Now he gets to join Spiller on a team that has been stocking up on young offensive talent, particularly at the receiver position. Buffalo selected Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin with second and third-round picks last year. The Bills also made a trade with Tampa Bay last month to acquire Mike Williams. Watkins addition raises questions about returning starter Stevie Johnsons future with the team. Whaley declined to address Johnsons status, saying the days focus was about Watkins. The trade with the Browns began developing immediately after Jacksonville selected UCF quarterback Blake Bortles with the No. 3 pick. “We went into this draft saying we were going to be bold, and we made a bold move,” Bills President Russ Brandon said. “Were sitting up here very pleased right now.” The Bills only have five picks left. Buffalo is next scheduled to pick 41st overall, in the second round set for Friday. Its the first Bills draft since Ralph Wilson — the teams owner and founder — died in March. The Bills will be put up for sale, raising concerns the franchise could eventually relocate. Goodell continued to express optimism the Bills will remain in Buffalo in an interview with ESPN about an hour before the draft began. “We want to keep our teams in their current markets,” Goodell said. “But in particular, I think the Bills fans have demonstrated their passion and their support for the team.” Goodell then reiterated what he said a day earlier, noting a new stadium would help secure the teams long-term future. MILWAUKEE — Chris Stewart quickly has become familiar with the repertoire of tough Milwaukee closer Francisco Rodriguez. It paid off for the backup catcher Wednesday night. One night after grounding out in a nine-pitch at-bat against Rodriguez, Stewarts single keyed a three-run burst in the ninth inning and sent the Pirates past Milwaukee 4-1, ending the Brewers three-game winning streak. “I saw quite a few pitches from him (Tuesday) night, so I think that helped going into the at-bat,” Stewart said. “He stayed away from me (Tuesday) night, so it gave me a read on what he was going to try and do in that situation.” Rodriguez (1-1) threw two quick strikes to Stewart, but left a changeup high on the outside corner of the plate on his third pitch and the Pirates catcher belted it to centre, allowing pinch-runner Clint Barmes to score from second with the go-ahead run. “It was a big swing of the bat for us,” Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said. Rodriguez had given up only one run in 21 innings in his first 21 games. But the Pirates tagged the Milwaukee closer for four consecutive hits to beat the Brewers for only the second time in nine games. Rodriguez said he was having a trouble with all his pitches and left both his fastball and changeup high in the strike zone against the Pirates. “Unfortunately, it wasnt my day,” he said. “I didnt perform at the level I was expecting or everyone else was expecting. You just have to turn the page quick and be ready for the next day.” Milwaukee managed only six hits and went 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position minus Carlos Gomez. The star centre fielder dropped his appeal Wednesday and began a three-game suspension for his part in a bench-clearing fracas at Pittsburgh on Easter Sunday. “We didnt swing the bat that well,” Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said. Ike Davis singled pastt diving first baseman Mark Reynolds in the Pittsburgh ninth and Jordy Mercer singled sharply to centre.dddddddddddd Stewart, making only his eighth start of the season, then singled to centre. Starling Marte, playing for the first time since exiting Saturday with tightness in his back, then hit a two-run double to the centre-field wall. Tony Watson (4-0) pitched a scoreless eighth. Mark Melancon worked the ninth for his fifth save in six chances. Pittsburgh won for just the fifth time in 16 road games. Pirates starter Francisco Liriano rebounded from two straight mediocre outings, but remained winless in nine starts. He received his fifth consecutive no-decision after allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out seven in six innings. “I expect the best is yet to come from Frank,” Hurdle said. “Its just what I believe. Its the time of the year for him when he normally makes his move.” Milwaukee starter Wily Peralta had another strong outing, giving one run on five hits and a walk while striking out four in seven innings. The right-hander received a no-decision but lowered his ERA to 2.05 in eight starts. Herrera, Gomezs replacement, went 0 for 4 and grounded out to strand Khris Davis at third in a 1-all game to end the seventh. BRIDGEND — Bernhard Langer won his second Senior British Open championship on Sunday, finishing a record 13 strokes clear of Colin Montgomerie of Scotland for his third senior major title. The German added a closing 4-under 67 Sunday at sunny Royal Porthcawl to his earlier rounds of 65-66-68 for an 18-under 266. Langers 13-stroke win is the largest margin of victory in a senior major, beating Hale Irwins 12-stroke win in the Senior PGA Championship in 1997, while he almost doubled Bob Charles record of seven strokes in the British event, set at Turnberry back in 1989. Langer won the 2010 Senior British Open at Carnoustie and lost in a playoff last year at Royal Birkdale. He also won the Senior Players Championship last month. Montgomerie shot 2-under 69 to finish at 5-under 279 after starting with a share of seventh place. Tom Pernice Jr. of the United States, Barry Lane of England and Rick Gibson of Canada were three further shots back, tied for third on 2-under 282. “The golf course is unbelievably tough,” Langer said. "To have this weather for four days is unreal, its like playing in Florida with a bit of wind. “The secret was I didnt make too many mistakes and my driver was very good and my long putting was excellent, although not quite today as I was lacking a little. Perhaps my lead was too big.” While the stiff breeze sent many scores soaring, Langer displayed the same immaculate control that saw him lead throughout, going into the final day eight strokes ahead of Gibson. At the turn Langer had stretched his lead to 13, going out in 3-under 32 to Gibsons 2-over 37. Langer birdied both the second, when he holed from eight feet, and the third from five feet. He dropped a shot at the fourth when his approach only reached the front edge and he putted up to three feet and missed. He left his eagle putt at the long sixth on the lip, then bagged his fourth birdie at the seventh. He moved 14 clear when Gibson had a bogey at the 10th, but then Langer missed his par putt at 11, in what was only his fifth bogey of the week. Langer claimed his fifth birdie of the day at the short No. 12, then posted five straight pars before finding the final green in two and two-putting for a closing birdie, his 23rd of the tournament. Montgomeries closing 69 saw him win what he called “the other competition.” He dropped two strokes early on but then birdied the sixth and eighth to be level at the turn. He parred seven holes on the run from Nos. 9 through 16 before birdies at the last two to move clear of the rest of the chasers. Gibson, second overnight, struggled on the final day, closing with a 4-over 75 while Pernice and Lane shot 70 and 72 respectively. Americans Bob Tway (76) and Scott Dunlap (75) shared sixth place on level par 284, one ahead of Argentinas Miguel Angel Jimenez (68) and Kirk Triplett (70) of the United States. Tom Watson and Fred Couples struggled on the final day. Watson posted a 6-over 77 with fellow American Couples one worse, to finish on 286 and 288 respectively. Watson finished in a share of 10th alongside countryman Russ Cochran. Couples was tied for 13th. Art Shell Jersey . FRANKFURT, Germany — Hamburger SV rallied to beat Hannover 3-1 on Sunday and plunge its northern Bundesliga rival deeper into crisis. In the late match, Shinji Okazaki scored two goals to pace Mainz to a 3-2 victory at Werder Bremen. Goals from Milan Badelj, Maximilian Beister and Hakan Calhanoglu ended Hamburgs two-match losing run and kept Hannover winless in seven games. Szabolcs Huszti had put the visitors ahead in the 28th but Hamburg fought back and quickly established control after Badeljs equalizer three minutes later. Hannover finished with 10 men following Salif Sanes second yellow card in stoppage time. The win helped Hamburg climb up to 11th, leading Werder on goal difference. Hamburg is one point and two places above Hannover, which is three points from the relegation zone. “We all have to understand finally that we are in a dangerous situation,” Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler said. “We dont have to play beautifully but we have to get some points.” Hannover got off to a promising start when Huszti punished mistakes by Hamburgs goalkeeper Rene Adler and Tomas Rincon. Adler kicked the ball to Rincon, who was surrounded by three Hannover players and ccould not control it.dddddddddddd. Huszti took advantage to steal the ball and slot past Adler. Badelj replied quickly. Zieler punched a free kick from Calhanoglu outside the box, but Badelj fired a perfectly timed volley over the goalkeeper into the net. Beister put the home side ahead for good less than a minute into the second half with a diving header from Heiko Westermanns long cross. “We fought back well and deserved to win,” Beister said. Beister turned provider for Calhanoglus goal in the 84th. Mainz profited from two bizarre mistakes by Werder goalkeeper Sebastian Mielitz early in the match. Mielitz came out far away from his goal in the seventh minute but did not go for Sebastian Polters long ball which Nicolai Mueller looped over the keeper into the net. Ten minutes later, Mielitz misjudged a high ball from Zdenek Pospech, let it bounce off the crossbar and Okazaki pounced to score from close range. Okazakis clinical finishing from a counterattack made it 3-0 in the 70th, before Eljero Elia and Franco Di Santo scored in the last five minutes to make the finish interesting. Bremen fell to its second straight loss, while Mainz won its second straight. Cheap NFL Jerseys ’ ’ ’

LAS VEGAS — Frank Mir and Roy (Big Country) Nelson may live in the same city but the two heavyweights look worlds apart. At six foot three and 270 pounds, Mir is a freezer-sized slab of muscle. His shirt is a size-19 neck — “and I have a hard time closing it.” The six-foot Nelson is listed at a roly-poly 263 pounds with a belly that looks like it spends more time propping up a bar than a mixed martial arts opponent. But Mir remains just a slight favourite when the two Las Vegas natives square off Saturday in the co-main event of UFC 130 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. “A lot of people underestimate him,” Mir, a former UFC champion, said of Nelson. “Hes a very tough guy. He has decent power in his punches.” The two heavyweights were a study in contrast at the pre-fight news conference Wednesday. Mir (14-5) was elegantly packaged in a natty suit and open-neck shirt (see above) while a scruffy Nelson (16-5) wore a T-shirt with the top of his flowing mullet stuffed in a baseball cap. Mir, 32, and Nelson, 34, went to nearby high schools in Vegas but Mir says he first caught wind of Nelson was when they joined rival gyms 150 metres away in 1999-2000. Today they are friends, but not bosom buddies. “I like Roy, I think he has a very intelligent outlook on a lot of things,” said Mir. “But Im not going to lie to anybody, were not the best of friends. But we have a lot of mutual friends that are very close.” Like their wives. And one of Mirs groomsmen will be in Nelsons corner Saturday night. “That kind of makes it a bit awkward,” Mir said. Still, neither fighter has a problem hitting each other. “If my wife were to get in the ring with me, I would try to knock her out and choke her unconscious,” Mir said, drawing laughs from reporters. “No problem, I would flip the switch instantly.” “Trust me Roys going to try to knock my head off. Im going to try to knock his head off,” he added. “And if I can catch him in a choke, I want him to go to sleep and I guarantee you he would like to take my arm and out it on his mantle.” Mir, who lost to Nelson on points in a 2003 grappling contest, has never tapped in the UFC. And with UFC fighters generally matching their basic purse with a win bonus, theres plenty of incentive to be the last one punching. “If someone tried to rob you for half your paycheque … youd be pretty upset about the situation,” Mir said. “At the end of the day I have more obligation to my children going to private school then I do putting anybody elses kids through private school,” he added. Both Mir and Nelson are dangerous black belts in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Mir broke Tim Sylvias arm in an armbar at UFC 48 in 2004 while Nelson often uses his bulk effectively to control opponents on the ground. Mir and Nelson see the winner of Saturdays fight as the solid No. 2 contender in the heavyweight ranks, with No. 1 to be decided June 11 in Vancouver when Junior Dos Santos and Shane Carwin square off at UFC 130 to see who fights champion Cain Velasquez. Brock Lesnar waits in the wings, depending on his battle with diverticulitis. A rubber match between Mir and Lesnar would be a doozy, given the sparks the first two fights raised. Nelson, meanwhile, is coming off a knee injury suffered in a loss by decision to Dos Santos last time out. He was slated to meet Carwin in January but his opponent suffered a neck injury. Nelson likes to play up his pear shape, sometimes rubbing his ample belly after a win. Asked whether he liked fighting in his home town, he pointed to the food options in the city that never sleeps. “Were in Vegas, everythings open 24/7,” he said with a smile. “So you can go get burgers at any time of the day. You can get it at night.” Mir has a theory about Nelsons gut. Nelson, he reasons, is at a disadvantage if his opponent catches him in a front headlock when he shoots in at the waist for a takedown. “So not only is he carrying my weight, but hes carrying that belly bent over a fulcrum. That does have a limiting factor.” But Mir says despite the stomach, Nelson is a “very well-conditioned athlete.” Maintaining muscle consumes more oxygen than fat tissue, says Mir, who reckons Nelson is actually a 220-pounder carrying an extra 40 pounds of fat. “If he was 260 pounds and jacked, he would actually be worse off for his cardio. … Ive seen a lot of guys that have a little bit of fat on them still have very good cardio. Ive seen a lot of guys that have shaved forearms and veins coming out of their deltoids whose cardio sucks.” Mir, who weighed 248 pounds when he fought Pete Williams in 2002 in the UFC, says his body has just filled out as he has grown older. Plus, years of wrestling have built up his neck and shoulders. Mir told reporters his wife gave him the gears about his body change while watching Mel Gibson in “Mad Max” recently. “She said Look how thin his neck is? Its like you. We were looking at a picture, she was teasing me. You had a pencil neck.” While Mir debuted in the UFC in 2001, it took Nelson a lot longer to join him. He fought in the IFL, Bodog and other circuits before eventually making his way to the Octagon by winning Season 10 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” defeating Kimbo Slice and Brendan Schaub in the process. “I always felt that Roy would have a harder time going into the UFC just because sometimes he doesnt like to work within the system, (he has) a little bit of an authority issue,” Mir said. “Sometimes it causes waves.” Mir also pointed out that Nelson has lost four times outside the UFC. “I cant imagine not being undefeated outside the UFC,” said Mir, noting he beat former Pride stars Mirko (Cro Cop) Filipovic and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Both Mir and Nelson have their own gyms, although Nelson runs his out of his own home. Mir also has his own Suffer line of MMA training equipment. Nelson says Mir has the edge over him when it comes to the business side of MMA. “Im kind of more the blue collar (type). Im the worker bee.” Nelson says he is just competitive and has a “champions spirit.” “I think I have a little bit different heart and demeanour than a lot of other fighters in our division.” Nelson is undeniably hard to stop — only Andrei Arlovski has stopped him by TKO. He took a lot of punishment from Dos Santos, bending but never breaking. And when the fight was over, the Brazilian knew he had been in a fight when he looked into a mirror. After taking a pounding in the first round, a defiant Nelson walked to his corner and gave UFC president Dana White a thumbs up. “It was just like I hope youre excited. Im ready for Round 2.” cheap nfl jerseys . Meek pitched 12 innings over 12 games with Pittsburgh last season. Fiorentina levelled immediately after the break as a rare mistake from Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic allowed in a long-range effort from Juan Cuadrado. SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Panthers coach Ron Rivera figures theres only one way to slow down wide receiver Steve Smith - hide his pads. Thats what the Panthers did, figuratively, to Smith on Wednesday by forcing the veteran receiver to sit out of practice one day after he bruised his left knee at practice. Rivera says Smith is “getting better” and should return soon. Smith, the elder statesman on the roster entering his 12th season, appeared fine as he walked along the sidelines flipping a ball in the air during practice. Rivera says the Smith, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, “practices harder than most of the players on the roster” and that “sometimes the best thing to do is to take his pads and hide them on him.” Sam Mills Panthers Jersey . Marie Greyhounds forward after scoring with 3:29 left in the third period to lead Team Orr to a 4-3 win over Team Cherry at the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. “Its amazing — a little bit of jitters.” McCann described his goal as “kind of a story-book ending” to a game in which Team Orr jumped out to a 3-1 lead through two periods before Team Cherry rallied to score twice in the third. “I was just excited to get here and play my game and I did that tonight,” said the six-foot-one, 175-pound McCann, whos ranked 11th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. McCann agreed that scoring such a big goal in front of hundreds of NHL scouts and general managers could help improve his ranking leading up to the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in Philadelphia on June 27-28. “It doesnt hurt at all,” said McCann, who was named player of the game for Team Orr. Josh Ho-Sang of the Windsor Spitfires had a goal and an assist for Team Orr, while Julius Honka of the Swift Current Broncos and Aaron Ekblad of the Barrie Colts both had two assists. Brendan Lemeiux, also of the Colts, and Blake Clarke of the Saginaw Spirit also scored for Team Orr. Sam Reinhart of the Kootenay Ice and Nikolay Goldobin of the Sarnia Sting had a goal and an assist each for Team Cherry while Michael Dal Colle of the Oshawa Generals also scored. “It was a great experience,” Reinhart said. “Its the only time were all together for this draft class. Its definitely an important one to play well in.” Playing the second half of the game, goalie Julio Billia of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens made 17 saves to backstop Team Orr to the victory. Team Cherry held a 14-7 advantage in shots after the first period, but couldnt find a way to get any pucks past starting Team Orr goalie Mason McDonald of the Charlottetown Islanders. Conner Bleackley of the Red Deer Rebels had the first good chance to score for Team Cherry just past the first minute mark of the opening frame when he one-timed a pass from linemate Ryan MacInnis of the Kitchener Rangers on net, but McDonald slid across his crease to make the save. “Ill probably be thinking about that one for a while,” Bleackley said. “It didnt come off my blade quite like I wanted it to. Give credit to the goalie. He got over there pretty quick..dddddddddddd. If I can take that one back, I think I would have scored.” At the other end of the ice goalie Ty Edmonds of the Prince George Cougars stood his ground to stop a pair of chances off the stick of Calgary Hitmen forward and crowd favourite Jake Virtanen. At the mid-way mark of the first period, Daniel Audette of the Sherbrooke Phoenix tipped a point shot fired by Aaron Irving of the Edmonton Oil Kings that got past McDonald, but hit the post. On the ensuing rush the other way, Nikolaj Ehlers of the Halifax Mooseheads wired a shot that rang off the post behind Edmonds. Shortly after McDonald made another nice save to stop Bleackleys second scoring chance of the period, Jacob Middleton of the Ottawa 67s and Aaron Haydon of the Niagara IceDogs dropped the gloves for a spirited fight to the delight of the crowd. Team Orr carried the majority of the play early in the second and was rewarded when Lemieux redirected Honkas point shot past Edmonds for a power-play goal at the nine-minute mark of the middle frame. Just eight seconds later, Dal Colle took a pass from Reinhart and wired a wicked wrist shot into the top corner over McDonalds outstretched glove hand. After Dal Colles tying goal, Billia took over in net for McDonald, who finished the game with 15 saves. At the same time, Alex Nedeljkovic of the Plymouth Whalers replaced Edmonds in the Team Cherry net. Edmonds stopped 16 of 17 shots he faced, while Nedeljkovic finished with 13 saves. Clarke put Team Orr up 2-1 at 13:16 of the second when he beat Nedeljkovic with a wrist shot to the top corner, glove side. Ho-Sang added an insurance marker for Team Orr late in the second when he swatted the puck out of mid-air past Nedeljkovic. Goldobin pulled Team Cherry within one with a wraparound goal at 4:07 of the second and then almost tied up the game, but he hit the post after being awarded a penalty shot when he was pushed from behind to the ice by Brycen Martin of the Swift Current Broncos. “I always do that move, but Im unlucky tonight,” said Goldobin, who was chosen as Team Cherrys player of the game. Reinhart converted a feed from Goldobin during a Team Cherry power play at 13:53 of the third to tie the game at 3-3. That set the stage for McCanns game-winning goal when he took a pass from Ho-Sang and wristed a shot over Nedeljkovics blocker. “Ive got to give all the credit to Josh,” McCann said. “He just made an unbelievable pass and I just tried to get it to the net.” Cheap NFL Jerseys ’ ’ ’

LAUSANNE, Switzerland — French club Nantes will serve a one-year FIFA ban on recruiting new players after losing an appeal at Switzerlands supreme court. A Swiss Federal Tribunal ruling published Friday said that FIFAs disputes panel and the Court of Arbitration for Sport correctly imposed the sanction for Nantes enticing Guinea forward Ismael Bangoura to break his contract with Dubai club Al Nasr in January 2012. Nantes, which is 15th in the 20-team French league, previously had the ban frozen pending the federal verdict. “We can confirm that the registration ban will have to be served during the upcoming summer 2014 and winter 2015 registration periods,” FIFA said in a statement to The Associated Press. Nantes can sell and release players but is barred from registering new signings with the French Football Federation. The ruling upholds the original judgment that Nantes and Bangoura are jointly liable to pay Al Nasr 4.5 million euros ($6.2 million) plus interest in compensation. The club and player had argued Bangoura could leave Dubai upon returning from the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations because his salary was unpaid. Bangoura has already served three months of a four-month playing ban ordered by FIFA. The Swiss federal court said the players separate appeal against the CAS ruling was filed too late to be accepted. Nantes won the most recent of its eight French league titles in 2001. It was a Champions League semifinalist in 1996. The Canaries were relegated in 2009 and spent four years in the second tier until winning promotion last season. The Swiss federal tribunal also ordered Nantes to pay 22,000 Swiss francs ($25,000) to both FIFA and Al Nasr, and 20,000 Swiss francs ($22,800) in court costs. cheap nfl jerseys .S. international midfielder Michael Bradley. The Buckeyes made Penn State pay the price. Braxton Miller passed for three touchdowns and ran for two and Carlos Hyde rushed for 147 yards and two more scores to lead the fourth-ranked Buckeyes to a 63-14 victory over Penn State on Saturday night. “Weve got to keep our foot to the pedal,” said Miller, who completed 18 of 24 passes for a career-best 252 yards before leaving in the third quarter. It was the most points surrendered by Penn State (4-3, 1-2 Big Ten) and its worst beating in 114 years. “Its the worst game Ive experienced,” said Nittany Lions outside linebacker Mike Hull. Meyer said trying to rout an opponent was not what his team set out to do. “It helps,” coach Urban Meyer said of needing to win big to get the attention of those voting in the coaches and Harris polls that are part of the BCS standings formula. “That was not certainly our mindset. Our mindset was to find a way to win this game against a very talented team that we have a lot of respect for that had a lot of momentum coming into this game. … Things usually work out. Id be disappointed if that was our guys focus. Thats not our focus.” But not all of his players felt that way. “We wanted to make a statement,” wide-out Devin Smith said. The Ohio State (8-0, 4-0) victory stretched its nations best winning streak to 20 in a row, two behind the school mark which included the 1968 national championship season. That team was recognized during the opening half as the Buckeyes streaked to a 42-7 lead. Nittany Lions freshman QB Christian Hackenberg bobbled the second snap of the night and it never got much better. He ended up throwing two interceptions. A crowd of 105,889 at Ohio Stadium roared from the outset — and had plenty of reasons. Penn State hadnt given up so many points or been beaten so badly since losing 64-5 to the Duquesne Athletic Club on Nov. 25, 1899. Even Millers backup — Kenny Guiton — rushed for two touchdowns. The Buckeyes dominated all the crucial numbers, totalling a staggering 686 yards (to 357 for Penn State) while rushing for 408 yards on 51 attempts — an average of 8 yards per carry. Bill Belton was one of the few bright spots for the Nittany Lions, gaining 98 yards on 22 carries. It was the most one-sided margin by the Buckeyes and their most points scored in the 29 meetings in the series. The teams had split the last four meetings, with Ohio State holding a cumulative 79-66 scoring advantage. All of those matchups were close. But this one sure wasnt. It got out of hand quickly. “I take full responsibility ffor this loss,” Penn State coach Bill OBrien said.dddddddddddd “We didnt have them prepared good enough as a coaching staff, or me has a head coach. Therefore we didnt play good enough.” The Buckeyes enforced their will on the Nittany Lions on both sides of the ball in an impressive show of strength. Ohio State scored on six of seven possessions in the first two quarters, throwing deep for scores to wide-open receivers and jamming it between the tackles with Miller and Hyde making the most of gaping holes. “Im improving myself and showing what Ive got,” Miller said. “The first half, it went really well: fast, fast, momentum. The game plan worked out.” Miller completed all four of his passes for 65 yards after the opening kickoff before Hyde bulled right tackle for a 2-yard TD. In the only real drama of the game, Penn State manufactured a nice drive in response by mixing Belton runs with Hackenberg passes until faced with a third and 5 at the Ohio State 12. Then Hackenberg tried to thread a pass to tight end Adam Breneman at the goal line, with safety Corey “Pittsburgh” Brown picking off the underthrown attempt to end the threat. After the teams traded punts, the Buckeyes scored on five straight possessions. Miller scrambled right and just tumbled into the end zone behind a block by Devin Smith on a 39-yard scoring run. Two plays later, safety C.J. Barnett jumped a route and intercepted a Hackenberg pass and the onslaught was on. Seven plays and 52 yards later, Miller hesitated after taking the snap and had his pick of routes to the goal line, carrying the final 6 yards to make it 21-0. Hackenberg finished 12 of 23 for 112 yards passing with a touchdown and two interceptions. He carried four times for 21 yards in losses. The final score had to bring a chuckle to former Ohio State coach John Cooper. He took a team ranked No. 21 to Happy Valley in 1994 which was run over by the top-ranked Nittany Lions by a score of — thats right — 63-14. Even though the players werent motivated to roll up a big score to grab voters, Miller said the thought crossed his mind. “We didnt really talk about it, but I was watching games all day on TV,” Miller said. “We cant go out there and predict whats going to happen. We just had a great week of preparation and it turned out well.” Meyer, unbeaten in his 20 games since coming to Ohio State, felt his team did some things it hadnt been able to all year. “I like where were at right now as a team,” Meyer said. “The most impressive part of the game to me was we caused turnovers and we hit the quarterback a little bit. We havent been doing that.” Cheap NFL Jerseys ’ ’ ’

Then again, theres nothing like a good nights sleep either. While theres much merit in the argument that the next goal wins format is exciting, watching OT period after OT period of cautious, trap-style hockey as each team waits for the perfect scoring opportunity can be pretty dull. Hence the old, “I fell asleep during the overtime and woke up to an infomercial” line the next morning around the water cooler. There is one possible solution to open things up in extra time and reduce the marathon time. Anyone for 4-on-4? Right from the start of OT? How about after the first OT? So heres Daves question for you: “Should the NHL employ 4-on-4 at any point in playoff overtime?” Here are the answers that Dave liked best: Evan says: “We love the wars of attrition and we never forget them – Keith Primeaus goal for Philly against Pittsburgh is still a vivid memory.” Chris is voting yes, yes, yes for 4 on 4: “After an overtime period? Yes. After 60 minutes of regulation time? Yes. After the national anthem? Yes.” Dustin has the following suggestion: “If you dont want to stay up for long overtimes, go to bed and watch Onrait and OToole in the morning.” (Well yes, we can recommend that). Rob doesnt mind 4 on 4 in overtime, but with an asterisk: “It shouldnt be sudden-death. If a goal is scored, keep playing for the full 20-mminute period.dddddddddddd” Dale might want to do that 5-on-5: “We Canadians wear the day-after-triple overtime bags under our eyes as proudly as the players wear their scars.” This comes from Shawn: “By altering the overtime format, youre changing the way hockeys founders intended the game to be played.” (in June, shawn?) Will sent this e-mail: “Rather than break tradition, why not call penalties in overtime?” (Some would say that would break tradition). And finally, from Brian: “Dont mess with the playoffs. Theyre the only reason Im still interested in the NHL.” And Daves Reply to All: It has never made any sense to me that playoff rules and regular-season rules are different and they arent, with the exception of overtime. Now this could lead to a discussion of shootouts, but lets not go there – I will grudgingly accept the argument against shootouts in the playoffs. But not the argument that playoff overtime needs to be 5-on-5 so games might never end. The 3-overtime marathon between the Rangers and the Capitals wasnt the best hockey entertainment of the playoffs – it was merely the longest. 4-on-4 overtime in the regular season has gained widespread acceptance, so why should fans object to 4-on-4 overtime in the playoffs? To the many who do, I say: 4-on-4 doesnt guarantee a goal – you might still get your marathon games – and think of how much more exciting theyd be. ’ ’ ’
