Kris Hodge had a goal and two assists for the Cataractes (3-20-2), who are winless in five contests, while Frederick Gaudreau and Zachary Taylor each scored once. Téma: Jak postupovat / early reports indicate he suf PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Tiger Woods had his lowest score on the PGA Tour in seven months and left the Honda Classic on Saturday assured of only one thing. At least he gets to play on Sunday. Woods, who missed a 54-cut at Torrey Pines in his only other PGA Tour event this year, was never in serious danger of repeating that. He made seven birdies, one by chipping in from 50 feet left of the 11th green, and finished with a 5-under 65. He was just inside the top 10 when he ended his round — more than two hours before Rory McIlroy was to tee off in the third round. Woods was still six shots behind. So was Luke Guthrie, the second-year tour player from Illinois who played alongside Woods for the first time and made a bold birdie on the 18th to match his 65. “Wish I could have gotten one of the last two coming in — would have been nice,” said Woods, who missed birdie putts of 15 feet on the last two holes. “But Luke and I both played well today. It was a good round for both of us. I felt a lot better. I didnt hit the ball very well yesterday; just kind of grinded it out. Today I struck the ball well and made some putts.” It was his best round on the PGA Tour since a 61 in the second round of a runaway victory at Firestone. Then again, this is only Woods seventh PGA Tour event since then, and he did have a 63 in Turkey and a 62 at his 18-man charity event in California in December. He still looked sloppy at times. He made bogey on the 395-yard fourth hole with a drive so far right that he had to lay up from deep rough. He dropped another shot on the ninth when he went from the rough to well right of the green, leaving him no chance to get it closer than 15 feet. But that was his last bogey, and he seemed to gain confidence toward the end of his round until three good looks at birdie failed to drop. Guthrie played equally well and had a blast in his first pairing with the worlds No. 1 player. Guthrie, who shared the 54-hole lead at the Honda Classic a year ago, was stunned to see so many people show up for a 7:38 a.m. tee time, a crowd that looked like Sunday afternoon for most players when they made the turn. “Im sure its a different atmosphere when youre first out,” Guthrie said. Even though it was just an early tee time on a Saturday, Guthrie said he was paying attention to Woods — especially his score — throughout the round. Reggie Leach (1976 BARCELONA, Spain – Canadian Daniel Nestor and Serbian partner Nenad Zimonjic dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Jesse Huta Galung of the Netherlands and Stephane Robert of France in the mens doubles final at the Barcelona Open on Sunday. Huta Galung and Robert surprised the fifth-seeded pair in 54 minutes for their first career ATP title as a duo. Nestor, who teamed with Zimonjic for victories here in 2009 and 2010, called the day “a disaster.” “It was not a good match from start to finish,” Nestor said. "We made too many mistakes, That gave them confidence as the match went on and they played well. “Today was our worst match of the year.” Nestor, from Toronto, reached the Barcelona final last year with former partner Robert Lindstedt of Sweden. They were beaten by Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares in three sets. In this years final, Nestor and Zimonjic lost serve three times in the opening set and never got on track against Huta Galung and Robert, who entered the main draw as lucky losers. “In general we had a good week here, we won a couple of matches that we were in a position to lose,” Nestor said. “We came back in the semifinal which was certainly our best performance of the week. But then there was today … it would have been great to win a fifth title here but it didnt happen.” Nestor also won at Barcelona in 2004 and 2006 with former partner Mark Knowles of the Bahamas. The Canadian has started the season with some impressive results with Zimonjic. They won at Sydney in January and reached the final in Dubai the following month. They are assured a seeding and a first-round bye in the Madrid Masters next month. The extra time off will also allow Nestor to cross the Atlantic for some time with his family before returning for the big push through the clay season. After Madrid, Nestor and Zimonjic plan to play at the Rome Masters and the French Open. Nestor has four career mens doubles titles at Roland Garros. The Canadian also missed a chance to take over sole ownership of third place in the list of post-1968 Open era doubles title leaders. He remains tied with Australian Todd Woodbridge with 83 victories, behind Americans Mike Bryan (100) and Bob Bryan (98). cheap nfl jerseys . If Mike Babcock does not keep coaching the Red Wings after his contract expires following next season, the Red Wings can potentially promote Blashill to lead their NHL franchise. VANCOUVER — Steve Mason had a busy night Monday, but he was not complaining. The Philadelphia goaltender posted 41 saves as he backstopped the Flyers to a comeback 4-3 shootout win over the Vancouver Canucks. “It was the first time in a long time that we have given up over 30 shots, so I actually enjoyed it,” said Mason. “It was nice to get into a game and feel like you are doing something out there.” Vincent Lecavalier scored the shootout winner as the Flyers prevailed after trailing 2-1 in the second period and 3-2 late in the third. Lecavalier scored on a deke on Philadelphias first attempt and three Vancouver shooters could not beat Mason as the Flyers (19-16-4) posted their third straight win and sixth in eight games. The Canucks (23-11-7) suffered only their third loss in the past eight games. But more significantly, Vancouver missed a chance to move into a tie for fifth place in the Western Conference after the Kings lost earlier Monday to Chicago. “I thought we played good to get a point, but it pisses me off we dont get two,” said Vancouver coach John Tortorella. The Flyers have not lost in Vancouver in nearly 14 years, with their last setback coming Dec. 31, 1989, but they were in danger of suffering another loss here for most of the game. Mark Streit, Claude Giroux and Brayden Schenn also scored for the Flyers. Giroux also had an assist and further bolstered his chances of playing for Canadas Olympic team as he extended his point streak to nine games. Brayden Schenn forced overtime and the shootout as he scored in the final minute of the third period after Daniel Sedin put the Canucks ahead with less than three minutes remaining. Schenn made up for a miscue by his older brother Luke, who inadvertently put the puck into his own net after Mason got his blocker on Daniel Sedins long shot from near the blue-line. “I guess (there was) a little brotherly love there,” said Mason. “Luke was just trying to get back to the net there and I was putting my rebound where I wanted to and just an unfortunate bounce, things like that happen. (Its) just unfortunate it put us in that position.” Tom Sestito and Jannik Hansen had Vancouvers other goals. Hansen was less than pleased after the Canucks lost despite outshooting the Flyers 44-27. “This game had no business going into overtime,” said Hansen. “We should have closed this out quite earlier. a We need to score on our chances. Its not because we dont have them. We had quality opportunities in the third and even in overtime to get it done before the shootout.” Mason, who recorded 42 saves, now has matched the 16 wins he produced with Columbus in 2011-12, when a full campaign was last played. Vancouver counterpart Eddie Lack, making his second consecutive start and third appearance in place of injured No. 1 netminder Roberto Luongo, finished with 25 saves. Tortorella was pleased thhat his club earned three of a possible four points in back-to-back games after earning a win the night before in Calgary.dddddddddddd But he was angry that his team failed to control a key face-off prior to Brayden Schenns tying goal. “The mistake on the face-off, thats aggravating,” said Tortorella. “Thats what keeps you out of playoffs, plays like that, the details, the face-offs. I thought we played our ass off back-to-back. We created a tremendous amount of scoring chances, but you kick yourself in the teeth for the lack of detail on the face-off.” Vancouver could not score on its four power plays while Philadelphia was blanked on its three. The Flyers led 1-0 after the first period and the clubs were tied 2-2 following the second. Streit opened the scoring at 15:24 of the first period, putting in a backhand shot as the puck came to him after Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis denied Michael Raffl on a wraparound attempt. Sestito, a fourth-liner wanted mostly for his toughness, forged a 1-1 tie at 4:24 of the second period as he put in a Hamhuis rebound. With just under five minutes left in the second, Lack took a Wayne Simmonds shot to the mask. Despite losing his headgear on the play, Lack came up smiling and showed no ill effects. Less than a minute later, Hansen put the Canucks ahead 2-1 as he completed a nifty give-and-go with Daniel Sedin and tapped the puck into an open net. But Giroux pulled the Flyers even about two minutes later as took a lead pass from Raffl, fought his way up the middle through Hamhuis and Chris Tanev, and flicked the puck behind Lack from in close. Masons late stellar stops included denying Daniel Sedin on a breakaway early in the third and Ryan Kesler twice in the final minute of overtime. “Same story as the start of the year,” said Giroux. “He kept us in the games and now to kind of get a win for him, its huge.” Notes: Luongo worked out with Canucks goaltending coach Roland Melanson during a morning skate that involved a few players, including injured defenceman Alex Edler (undisclosed). a Simmonds was denied a chance to become the first Flyer to score multiple goals in four consecutive games in the 46-season history of the Philadelphia franchise. Reggie Leach (1976 and 1981) and Ross Lonsberry (1976) are the only other Flyers to record two or more goals in three straight games. a Defenceman Frank Corrado played his first game for Vancouver this season after being called up from Utica of the AHL earlier in the day. He replaced Andrew Alberts, who was injured Sunday on a high hit from Brian McGrattan in Calgary. McGrattan was assessed an elbowing major and game misconduct for the infraction. Corrado played for the Canucks late in the regular season and playoffs last season after playing his final junior campaign in the OHL. a Canucks captain Henrik Sedin played in his 670th consecutive NHL game. 02:55ET 31-12-13 cheap jerseys whole… jerseys ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Jak postupovat / n rescheduled for Tuesday a VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks power play is clicking again, and this time it produced a much-needed win. Daniel Sedin scored the second of his two goals on a power play Saturday and it stood up for the winner in a 4-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Alex Edler also got into the act, made Blue Jacket penalty killers look like spectators as he scored on an end-to-end dash that provided a 3-1 lead in the second period. “When you score a (power-play) goal or two you get confidence and all of a sudden the passes are on the stick and you are moving for each other,” Sedin said. The Canucks went 2-for-3 on the power play for the second straight game after struggling through a 1-for-22 stretch. “Theres not a lot of changes in our power play lately,” Sedin said when asked why its suddenly scoring. “Its just a matter of passes being there, shooting the puck and finding rebounds. Its little things.” The Canucks gave up the opening goal to Vinny Prospal but David Booth and Sedin scored at equal strength in a span of 79 seconds to give Vancouver a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Then Edler turned on the jets on Vancouvers first power-play opportunity. Canuck goalie Cory Schneider stopped a shoot-in and fired the puck into Edlers skates but the rangy defenceman recovered it, circled his net and took off. The Columbus penalty killers looked like they expected him to pass but Edler went in alone on goalie Steve Mason and scored after a crafty deke for his career-high 11th goal of the season. “I was just thinking to get some speed behind the net and maybe they didnt expect it,” said Edler, who couldnt remember scoring a goal like that |

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Free-agent linebacker Brandon Spikes agreed to a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills on Friday night. The Bills also said they reached terms with former San Francisco running back Anthony Dixon. Spikes had 86 tackles and an interception last season for New England, the former Florida players fourth with the Patriots. “Gotta silence the lambs, get on my Buffalo Bill! (hashtag)51 (hashtag)BILLSMAFIA taking back the (hashtag)AFCEAST (hashtag)PoWwWwW,” Spikes tweeted. Hes rejoining former Patriots linebackers coach Pepper Johnson, the Bills new defensive line coach. Dixon ran for 458 yards and eight touchdowns in four seasons San Francisco, but dropped down the depth chart behind Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter. Dixon played some at fullback after Bruce Miller was injured. Bills general manager Doug Whaley has been busy, also adding linebacker Keith Rivers, guard Chris Williams and cornerback Corey Graham and re-signing tight end Scott Chandler.dddddddddddd Spikes is regarded as a key addition for a defence that struggled against the run last season and is under transition with Jim Schwartz taking over as co-ordinator. Schwartz replaces Mike Pettine, who left Buffalo after one season to take over as Clevelands head coach. The deal with Spikes will allow the Bills to move Kiko Alonso to an outside role, a position they believe hes best suited. Buffalo allowed 150 or more yards on the ground seven times last season. That was a glaring weakness of a defence that otherwise was solid in other areas in setting a franchise-record 57 sacks and finishing 10th in the NFL in yards allowed, Buffalos best finish since ranking second in 2004. Téma: Jak postupovat / th his complaint which will VANCOUVER — Their next opponent has yet to score a goal this season but the Vancouver Whitecaps arent taking the New England Revolution lightly. They know how dangerous a desperate team can be. The unbeaten Whitecaps head to Boston on Saturday afternoon to face a struggling Revolution squad eager to ignite their offence in their home opener. “Im not getting fooled by the results they had in the first two games,” said Vancouver head coach Carl Robinson. “They are a good team and it will be a big test for us.” New England has been outscored 5-0 in two road games so far, but has won both its previous meetings against Vancouver when playing at Gillette Stadium. New England is also unbeaten in home openers since 2007. “Its a dangerous time to play them,” said Whitecaps captain Jay DeMerit. “Theyll have a lot of fire in their bellies and we need to make sure we combat that. Our energy needs to be there from the start.” DeMerit wont be on hand to deliver that spark, as he said on Twitter that he is being rested this weekend in advance of Vancouvers upcoming Western Conference matchups. Vancouvers energy level was a recurring topic during the teams training sessions this week on the UBC campus. After dazzling home fans in their season-opening 4-1 win over the New York Red Bulls, the team looked somewhat sluggish in a 1-1 tie against a 10-man Chivas USA side in southern California. Against Chivas, the Whitecaps fell behind 1-0 before Gambian forward Kekuta Manneh tied it with a spectacular strike in the 81st minute. Although Vancouver pulled out the road point, many on the team felt it was an opportunity missed. “We were not a 100 per cent in our energy last weekend and thats something we can improve on,” said Whitecaps goalie David Ousted. "If youre up a man, you have to work maybe even harder to break them down than if theyre 11. “They did really well at ruining our play and we had to work hard to get through and I think thats something well learn from. If it happens again, we will be even more aggressive in going for the goals.” While fans pine to see Manneh and his scoring touch in the starting lineup on Saturday, Robinson says Mannehs not there yet. The quick-footed forward missed the pre-season with a lower back issue and right now his fitness level is still a work in progress. Manneh, who scored six goals and started six games last year, played 30 minutes against Chivas and seven in the opener. He was seen running drills alone during practice. “Hes a great kid and has got fantastic ability,” said Robinson. “Its important we do the fitness that the guys did in pre-season. He missed that. He got his reward on Sunday, and played very well. Hell be fine for (Saturday) and Im sure he play some part in New England.” Vancouver will need its offence clicking against a Revolution team that, despite its goal-scoring struggles, is known to be stingy at the back thanks in part Jose Goncalves, last years MLS defender of the year. The Portuguese centre back helped New England tie for the third-best defensive record in 2013 with 38 goals allowed. “They play tight and narrow at the back, so if we can spread them out and get some crosses, hopefully (we) get some of these guys on the scoreboard again,” said DeMerit. “New England is a compact team. Theyve got a couple good forwards up top, guys who are proven scorers in this league. They havent scored a lot of goals yet, but that doesnt mean they arent capable of doing so.” Notes: Whitecaps midfielder Russell Teibert of Niagara Falls, Ont., says hes feels good and is ready to return after missing Sundays match with a hamstring injury. Teibert started the season opener and registered one shot on goal. … Vancouver defender Johnny Leveron (concussion) is also expected to be available for Saturdays match. … Vancouver won the last meeting between the clubs 4-3 at B.C. MEXICO CITY — Alex Rodriguez says his season-long suspension could be a benefit, allowing him to rest and return to the Yankees for the final three years of his contract. Speaking late Wednesday in Mexicos capital during a promotional appearance, Rodriguez declined to talk specifically about his suspension for violating baseballs drug agreement and labour contract. Rodriguez, in his first public comments since arbitrator Fredric Horowitzs decision Saturday, said he wanted to end his career with New York. Yankees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner has declined to talk about his possible return but has called him a “great player.” “The 2014 season could be a big help for me,” Rodriguez said. “It might serve as a break and close the chapter, and begin in 2015 with my last three years under contract with the Yankees.” Rodriguez, who will be 39 when the 2015 season opens, repeated several times that this part of his life had not been completed. “I want to retire in New York, and I think the rest will do me good,” he added. “For me, the book isnt finished. There are still chapters to finish. … Right now I havent thought about retiring.” Rodriguez, fifth on the career list with 654 homers sued the Major League Baseball and the players union on Monday in an effort to overturn the decision by Horowiitz, who reduced what originally was a 211-game suspension issued by Selig in August.dddddddddddd. “This process has been taxing both mentally and physically throughout the past eight months,” Ron Berkowitz, a spokesman for Rodriguez, said in a statement Thursday. “Alex will abide by the rulings of the federal judge — whatever he decides — and get ready for 2015 should the judge rule against him. He will continue to move forward with his complaint which will help all players against this unfair system.” Also speaking Wednesday night, Yankees captain Derek Jeter said he is saddened by the situation. “The whole situation is bad,” Jeter said at his Turn 2 Foundation golf classic in Tampa, Fla. “The whole thing has been kind of messy.” Jeter has been in communication with Rodriguez, but declined to say what was discussed. “Im sure its a rough situation,” Jeter said. Hall of Famer Goose Gossage attended Jeters event and called the Rodriguez matter unfortunate for the game and everyone involved. “I wish A-Rod would just leave it alone and go on,” Gossage said. “Then see about coming back. Who knows what the future holds for A-Rod and the Yankees? I think A-Rod, probably, got what he deserved. I hate to see it happen to him, but I think the punishment fits the crime.” cheap jerseys whole… jerseys ’ ’ ’ |

After taking a pass at the blue-line, he stepped into a slap shot from the top of the face-off circle to beat Roy far side for his team-leading 22nd of the year. The 22-year-old Finn gave the Griffins the lead at 3:49. Nick Jensens shot from the top of the circle was deflected by Pulkkinen, cruising through the slot. That was Jensens first professional point. Reinhart tied the game at 16:09, taking a pass from Brett Olson and wiring a wrist shot far side on Mrazek. Jarnkroks power-play goal gave the Griffins the lead heading into the second intermission. Nestrasil found Jarnkrok in the low slot and he beat Roy bar down with just 20 seconds to play. Grand Rapids thought they had doubled the lead eight minutes into the third, but the deflection in front was a high stick and was immediately waved off by referee Trevor Hanson. Reinhart tied the game with just under four minutes to go, redirecting a pass from Baertschi around Mrazeks left pad. Grand Rapids had the best scoring chance in overtime, but Ryan Sproul fired it off the crossbar midway through the extra frame and with 35 seconds to go, Cory Emmerton shot a one-timer from the slot right into Roys crest. Milan Michalek and Kyle Turris scored twice Sunday as the Senators defeated the Calgary Flames 6-3, giving Ottawa seven points in its past four games. The win moves the Sens to within six points of the Columbus Blue Jackets and the second wild-card berth in the Eastern Conference with eight games remaining. “Well have to continue to play hard in those games and Ill like where well be at the 82-game mark. I might be dreaming but thats what I believe,” Senators coach Paul MacLean said. Clarke MacArthur scored on a tip in 13 minutes into the third period after Jared Cowen had given the Senators a 4-3 lead a little over a minute into the third period. That third period was what allowed the Senators to keep their hopes alive. “We were very pleased with how we played the third period, giving up six shots, and the way we put the game away was good,” MacLean said. Turris scored into an empty net and Robin Lehner made 37 saves allowing the Senators (31-29-14) to win back-to-back games on home ice for the first time since they won three straight in late December and early January. “In the third we continued to play our game and we were smarter and made better decisions,” said Turris, who also had an assist. “We put the puck deep when we were up by one or two and we played our game the whole way through, we just made smarter decisions in the third.” Matt Stajan, Paul Byron and Sean Monahan scored for the Flames (31-37-7) and Karri Ramo made 31 saves. The Flames could not have played a much better period than they did in the second as they outshot the Senators 21-9, but the best they were able to do after taking a 3-2 lead was go into the second intermission tied 3-3. Ottawa native Byron scored four minutes into the period for the Flames to tie the game as he corralled a rebound in the slot and put a shot into the top corner. It was only Byrons third career game in his hometown and he has a goal in two of those games. He scored his first goal in his second NHL game in early 2011 when he was a member of the Buffalo Sabres. “I always enjoy playing in Ottawa in front of friends and family and I appreciative of all the things theyve done for me over the years,” said Byron, who played his junior hockey across the Ottawa River with the QMJHLs Gatineau Olympiques, where he staarred alongside Claude Giroux, now captain of the Philadelphia Flyers.dddddddddddd “Its hard to stay focused sometimes and you get distracted getting tickets and putting people on lists to see after (the game). I just try to stay focused and Im happy I have success here.” A little more than three minutes after Byron tied the game, former Ottawa 67s standout Sean Monahan scored to give the Flames a 3-2 lead as he picked the corner over Lehners left shoulder. The goal was the 20th of the season for Monahan, making him the third rookie this season to reach that plateau along with Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche (23) and Tyler Johnson of the Tampa Bay Lightning (22). Losing that lead wasnt something Monahan or the rest of the Flames were particularly proud of. “I dont know what it was but like I said its not a game we can lose and its pretty upsetting. They capitalized on their chances and they put the puck in the back of the net. Thats something that we can fix and theyre simple mistakes,” Monahan said. “We had a lot of chances and unfortunately we couldnt capitalize on some of them. At the end of the day we have to find a way to pull out the win.” The Senators had gone into the second period with a 2-1 lead as Michalek sandwiched goals around one from Stajan. Michalek opened the scoring when he redirected a point shot from Erik Karlsson past Ramo at 10:42. Less than three minutes later though, Stajan jumped into the slot and buried a pass from behind the net past Lehner. Michalek re-established a one-goal lead for the Senators thanks to some terrific patience from Jason Spezza. The Senators captain moved around a sliding Calgary defenceman behind the goal-line, cut back out in front and slid a backhand pass that Michalek buried for a 2-1 lead. Notes: Cody Ceci, Bobby Ryan and Colin Greening were scratches for the Ottawa Senators while scratches for the Calgary Flames were Bryce Van Bradrant, Ladislav Smid, Dennis Wideman, Kenny Agostino, David Jones, Ben Hanowski and Markus Granlund. …The game was the first Ceci has missed in his career since he was called up from Binghamton in early December. He played in 41 straight games. … The Flames have played in 45 one-goal games this season and remain one shy of establishing a new franchise record. Their record in those games is 22-16-7. Téma: Jak postupovat / ild Jersey . Canada had opene PITTSBURGH — The Philadelphia Flyers appear to have recovered from a rough start to the season, while the intrastate rival Pittsburgh Penguins seem to be coming back to the rest of the pack after their strong start. Brayden Schenn scored two goals and backup goalie Ray Emery stopped 30 shots to lead the Flyers in a 2-1 victory over the Penguins on Wednesday night for their third straight victory. “Obviously, were working on trying to put some wins together right now and playing pretty sound defensive hockey,” Schenn said. “Were waiting for our opportunities to score and right now were scoring when theyre there, so we have to keep it going.” Schenn, who had a goal and an assist during Philadelphias 5-0 win against Ottawa the previous night, opened the scoring late in the first period and got the tiebreaker late in the second. Emery got the start one night after Steve Mason shut out the Senators. “The last couple weeks, the boys score more goals,” Emery said. “We had a great night in Ottawa, had a tough-back-to-back against one of our rivals and a really good team in Pittsburgh, so theyre all steps in the right direction.” Penguins captain Sidney Crosby scored his ninth goal of the season, and first in eight games. Marc-Andre Fleury made 19 saves for Pittsburgh, which has lost three straight for the second time this season. “Its never easy losing,” Crosby said. “When you get the chances you feel like you deserve better, but we still didnt get the result we wanted.” Pittsburgh came into the game with four straight wins against its intrastate rival and victories in six of the last eight meetings. However, the Flyers, 9-2-1 at Consol Energy Center since the arena opened, led by a goal after two periods. Philadelphia then shut down the high-flying Penguins in the third as Pittsburgh generated few opportunities in the final 20 minutes, appeared sluggish during a power-play opportunity, and used its timeout to regroup early in the period. “I like the fact that we grinded the win out,” Flyers head coach Craig Berube said. “We played the night before and did a lot of the little things right tonight.” After a horrid 1-7 start which contributed to the firing of former coach Peter Laviolette, the Flyers have gone 6-3-1 in their last 10 games, earning points in five of their last six contests. Philadelphia scored first in all seven wins and lost in all seven games in which it has allowed the first goal. Philadelphia is currently on a three-game road swing, coming off a dominating 5-0 victory at Ottawa 24 hours earlier. The Flyers have scored 11 goals in three games after getting 22 in their first 15, the fewest for any team during that stretch since 1956. “I think as a team were gaining more confidence and really getting into it,” Emery said. The Penguins, one point ahead of Washington for the top spot in the division, were off since a 2-1 loss Saturday at St. Louis and hadnt played at home in 11 days. Pittsburgh, despite a wealth of talent, has experienced trouble scoring recently, totalling just three goals in the three-game skid. The Penguins are 11-2 when they score three or more goals and 0-4 when they score fewer than three. “Were not doing enough around the net and in those areas to get the goals,” Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. “We had opportunities, but we were not able to get in their end and finish.” Crosby has just three goals in 11 games, while Evgeni Malkin hasnt scored in his last 11 and Pascal Dupuis, a 20-goal scorer last season, has gone 12 games without a goal. “I think the chances are there, we just have to put them in,” Dupuis said. “Its definitely not a fun time, but you just have to find ways to score.” Chris Kunitz thought he staked the Penguins to a 1-0 lead 19 seconds into the game, but the goal was disallowed after it was determined there was a distinct kicking motion when the rebound from his initial backhand shot ricocheted off his shin guards. “I thought he kind of (kicked it), but he was stopping, so you never know,” Emery said. “Its a good break.” That break allowed the Flyers got the games first tally with 3:58 left in the first period, when Schenn, who has four goals in six games, took a left-corner feed from Wayne Simmonds and wristed a shot over Fleurys glove hand from the faceoff dot. The Penguins got it back on the power play midway through the second period, tying the game at 8:29 when Crosby one-touched Malkins centring pass from the right-wing boards over Emerys blocker. Philadelphia reclaimed the lead with a power-play goal of its own with 1:20 to go in the period. Jakub Voraceks initial shot from the point deflected off several players in front and bounced off the post. Schenn found the rebound in front of the net, and tapped his second of the game into a partially open net, giving the Flyers the lead for good. “Were winning right now and it was a good win,” Berube said. “We didnt get off to a great start, but our goalie was really good and gave us a chance to win and get our feet under us.” NOTES: Penguins D Paul Martin missed his second straight game with a lower-body injury. Téma: Jak postupovat / spots in every short-track speed BOSTON — Boston Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck went onto the court right after the final buzzer sounded to pull aside the game ball for coach Brad Stevens. It took five games, but the Celtics finally helped Stevens earn his first NBA victory. “Im going to celebrate for a whole 12 minutes, and then Im going to start watching Orlando and trying to figure them out,” the first-year Celtics coach said after Boston beat the Utah Jazz, one of the leagues other winless teams, 97-87 on Wednesday night. Brandon Bass scored 20 points and Jeff Green added 18 to lead Boston to its first win of the season. The game reunited Stevens, the former Butler coach, with Gordon Hayward, the Bulldogs star who took them to the 2010 NCAA championship game against Duke and just missed a shot from inside half court that would have won it. “We exchanged greetings before the game,” said Hayward, who had 28 points and nine rebounds. “But being the competitors we are, we both wanted to win the basketball game.” Now one of the two remaining winless teams in the NBA this season along with the Denver Nuggets, Utah trailed by 25 points in the third quarter and opened the fourth down 22 before scoring 17 of the next 20 points. Hayward had eight points, five rebounds and three assists in the fourth quarter, but the Jazz never got closer than six points. “Hes a lot better than when I coached him. And he was pretty good when I coached him,” Stevens said. “I was there when he was a puppy. … But I wish he would have backed off a little at the end.” The attendance of 17,130 was about 1,500 fans short of a sellout, ending a streak of 289 games dating to the end of the 2006-07 season. That was the last game before the Celtics brought in Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to join Paul Pierce for a New Big 3. The trio helped Boston win the 2008 NBA title and took the Celtics back to the finals two years later. But the team was dismantled this summer when Garnett and Pierce were traded to the Brooklyn Nets and coach Doc Rivers left for the Los Angeles Clippers. Stevens, who guided Butler to consecutive NCAA championship games, took over the Celtics — his first NBA experience as a coach or player. The rebuilding Celtics lost their first four games, including last weeks home opener in which they blew a 22-point lead. But the Celtics held on in Stevens second game in front of the home crowd, thanks largely to a second quarter in which they outscored Utah 27-8 and turned a three-point deficit into a double-digit lead. “Eight points in the second quarter. Eight points in the second quarter,” Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. “Thats where we lost the game right there.” Gerald Wallace had nine points and nine rebounds for Boston. Derrick Favours had 10 points and 14 rebounds and Enes Kanter scored 22 points with eight boards for the Jazz, who open a season with five straight losses for the first time since 1974, when they were still in New Orleans. “Its a long year,” said Corbin, whose team goes to Chicago and Toronto. “Were in a bad stretch right now, losing five games in a row. Youve got two more tough ones on this road trip and youre still shorthanded. But you know what, nobodys going to feel sorry for us.” The Jazz opened a 16-3 lead in the first 5 minutes but Boston scored the next seven points and cut it to 26-23 by the end of the quarter. The Celtics made the first four baskets of the second to take the lead, and they scored 12 consecutive points at the end of the half to take a 16-point lead. “You had two hungry teams that needed a win. We got off to” a fast start, forward Richard Jefferson said. “But we didnt come out in the second quarter.” It was 70-45 midway through the third quarter and 84-62 heading into the fourth before the Celtics missed eight of their next nine shots. Kanter made a layup to cut it to 89-83, but Bass made a jumper and Jared Sullinger made a baby hook with 3:16 to play to make it 93-83. NOTES: The Celtics entered the night averaging 21 turnovers per game; they had 15. Utah averaged 19.8 turnovers and committed 22. … The Celtics avoided starting the season 0-5 for the first time since 1946, when they lost the first five games in franchise history. … The Jazz played the “old Celtics,” also known as the Brooklyn Nets, on Tuesday night and lost 104-88. Téma: Jak postupovat / Ducks fans from that 2008 pla LONDON — Croatian player Marin Cilic was handed a nine-month suspension by the International Tennis Federation on Monday after testing positive for a banned substance. The suspension was back-dated to May 1 and will last through Jan. 31, 2014. Cilic tested positive for nikethamide, a stimulant, at a tournament in Munich last spring. The ITF said it accepted the players contention that he ingested the substance inadvertently in glucose tablets and was not trying to cheat. As a result, the ITF gave him a reduced penalty rather than a ban of up to two years. “Mr. Cilic asserted that the nikethamide, for which he did not hold a valid TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption), had entered his system through his ingestion of Coramine glucose tablets that had been purchased on his behalf from a pharmacy,” the ITF said in a statement. “The Independent Tribunal found that Mr Cilic ingested the nikethamide inadvertently as a result of taking the Coramine glucose tablets, and did not intend to enhance his performance in doing so.” The 24-year-old Cilic, who reached a career-best ranking of No. 9 in 2010, has not played since pulling out from Wimbledon in June before a second-round match, citing a left knee injury. He has since missed the U.S. Open and will also be ineligible for the Australian Open in January. The ITF said Cilic will lose all his results, ranking points and prize money since the Munich tournament. His best result since Munich was a runner-up finish at the Queens Club grass-court tournament, where he lost to Andy Murray. Cilic said in a statement he will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. He said the banned substance came from a glucose tablet purchased at a pharmacy in France. “Unbeknownst to me, the glucose tablets contained a substance that is banned in-competition (although it is allowed out-of-competition),” he said. “I wish to emphasize that I have never knowingly or deliberately taken any banned substances in my life and that I am opposed to any use of performance-enhancing substances in sport,” Cilic added. Cilic said he isnt able to comment further until the legal process is completed. . The Ducks acquired Robidas from the Dallas Stars on Tuesday for a conditional fourth-round pick in this years draft. The overall NHL leaders made three deals on the day before the leagues trade deadline, shaking up their roster with 20 games left in the regular season. Anaheim also sent backup goalie Viktor Fasth to Edmonton and shipped forward Dustin Penner to Washington. Although the 37-year-old Robidas wont return from a broken leg for at least two more weeks, the Ducks were eager to acquire a hard-nosed veteran with superior passing skills and a nasty edge to his game. Theyre all attributes Anaheim could use in its attempt to back up its outstanding regular season with playoff success. The Ducks lead the NHL with 91 points and three straight victories heading into Wednesdays game against Montreal, but theyve won just one playoff series since winning their franchises only Stanley Cup title in 2007. Robidas knew he probably didnt have a future with the Stars, who havent discussed a contract extension with him. When he heard Anaheim was interested, he jumped at the chance to play in the post-season for the first time since 2008, when Dallas eliminated the defending champion Ducks in the first round. “Were going for a Stanley Cup, and thats what Ive been waiting for for a long time,” said Robidas, who is joining his fourtth NHL club.dddddddddddd “I think its a great opportunity for me, and Im just very excited for the chance the Ducks are giving me.” Robidas hasnt played since breaking his leg against Chicago on Nov. 29 while crashing into the boards behind the net, but he has been participating extensively in practice. He had four goals and one assist in 24 games for the Stars this season. “Everything has been going really well,” Robidas said of his recovery. “Ive just got a few little things I need to get a little more comfortable.” Robidas should add experience and toughness to a defence that has spent the entire season without veteran Sheldon Souray, who got hurt in summer training. Robidas should be familiar to some Ducks fans from that 2008 playoff series in which Anaheims Todd Marchant accidentally broke Robidas nose with the puck — and Robidas returned to the game shortly afterward. “Thats how I play,” Robidas said. “Im not a finesse player. I know my role. I know what I need to do. I know how I need to play, and Im not going to change the way Ive been playing. Im going to be the same player, and I think thats why they came and they got me.” Robidas is seventh in Dallas club history with 704 games played. He has 211 points in two stints with Dallas, his home for all but 45 NHL games since 2002. The draft pick acquired by the Stars becomes a third-rounder if the Ducks reach the Western Conference finals and Robidas plays in half their playoff games. Téma: Jak postupovat / falo into a tie for la MONTREAL – General manager Jim Popp says he has had no contact with former NFL receiver Chad (Ochocinco) Johnson about playing for the Montreal Alouettes. “I have had no discussions with Chad Johnson or his representation,” Popp said Friday in an email. He said it had become news “because someone has leaked confidential information to a media source about our negotiation list.” Johnsons response on Twitter to the report said: “Nothing to negotiate, Ill be fast as hell and in shape @ochocinco.” In another cryptic tweet later, Johnson was asked what are the chances he will sign with the Alouettes and he replied: “85 % yes 15 % probation.” The 36-year-old Johnson played 11 seasons in the NFL, the first 10 with Cincinnati. BUFFALO, N.Y. — Given how poorly Buffalo was playing two months ago, defenceman Tyler Myers is certain it would have let this one slip away. Its a much different story in March, now that the surging Sabres have climbed back in the hunt for a playoff spot. Buffalo allowed the tying goal with 5 seconds left in regulation, but Myers scored 2:01 into overtime to secure a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night. “Two months ago, I would say it wouldve been very tough with our group,” Myers said, noting how the Sabres might have allowed frustration to settle in after Montreals David Desharnais forced overtime by scoring during a wild scramble in front. “But I think weve come a very long, long way,” Myers said. “Those goals dont feel good. And the way we responded was a big sign of life with our group.” The Sabres (33-29-8) improved to 9-2-2 in their past 13 games, a roll that has moved them from the depths of the Eastern Conference standings into ninth place, two points behind Washington in the race for the final playoff spot. Myers raced up the right wing to join Derek Roy and Jason Pominville for a 3-on-2 rush that led to the winning goal. Roy crossed the blue line and slid a pass across to Myers, who snapped a shot by Peter Budaj and just inside the left post. Tyler Ennis scored twice, Drew Stafford had two assists and Ryan Miller stopped 26 shots while extending Buffalos home winning streak to a season-best five straight. “I think it shows weve got good character,” Ennis said. “It can be deflating when you let in a goal with a few seconds left. And we bounce back and score right away in overtime.” Desharnais and Erik Cole each had a goal and an assist each for the Canadiens (27-32-11), who salvaged a point but remain stuck in last place in the East. Coach Randy Cunneyworth didnt consider the loss to Buffalo as a setback, and noted his team was jet-lagged after a 4-1 win at Vancouver on Saturday. “I dont look at it as a step backward,” Cunneyworth said. "I was happy with the effort. II think under the circumstances, the guys gave everything they had.ddddddddddddquot; Despite a slow start and being outshot 14-6 in the first period, the Canadiens opened the scoring 4:32 in on Coles slap shot off a Sabres turnover. Buffalo pressured Montreal but Budaj stepped up with 33 stops. In the first period, he somehow got a piece of Thomas Vaneks shot through a screen. Four minutes into the second, Budaj thrust his glove up to snag Roys blast that came on a 3-on-1 break. Vanek was foiled again with 8:32 remaining, when he got in alone only to have Budaj get a piece of the shot with his right pad. Ennis tied it 11:08 into the second period on a great individual rush when he crossed the blue line, turned Montreal defenceman Andrei Markov inside out and beat Budaj by faking a backhand shot before going forehand. Ennis then put the Sabres in front 1:50 into the third period courtesy of a fortunate bounce on a 2-on-1 break. His pass through the crease deflected in off Montreal defenceman Alexei Emelins stick. Buffalo improved to 7-0-1 in its past eight against Northeast Division-rival Montreal. The only blemish was a 4-3 shootout loss in their previous meeting last month. That game prompted Sabres coach Lindy Ruff to say he was “embarrassed” following a sloppy effort that dropped Buffalo into a tie for last place in the East. Ruff was in a better mood this time. “It was tough on the emotions giving that goal up with that amount of time,” Ruff said. “We didnt defend that situation very well. But to come back and go after it and not get on our heels … I thought we answered the bell.” NOTES: Sabres LW Matt Ellis is out indefinitely after hurting his right knee in a 4-3 shootout win at Ottawa on Saturday. Ruff also said D Andrej Sekera has been diagnosed with pneumonia after missing the past three games with flulike symptoms. … Desharnais returned after missing one game with a lower body injury. … Before the anthems, the Sabres honoured Rick Martin, Buffalos French Connection-line winger, who died last March 13 of heart disease. Téma: Jak postupovat / igned a 4-year contract ext Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is set to extend a memorable season by joining Canada for the IIHF World Hockey Championship. The Edmonton Oilers rookie accepted an invitation Tuesday after receiving medical clearance from the Oilers. Nugent-Hopkins missed time this season with a shoulder injury, but was eager for the opportunity to represent his country. “Its always something I wanted to do,” he said. “Getting asked is a big honour for me.” The 18-year-old will be joined by Oilers teammate Devan Dubnyk, who has agreed to return to the event for a third straight year. Dubnyk didnt see much action in the last two tournaments but should be used more this time around in a goaltending tandem with Cam Ward. In all, Hockey Canada has received commitments from 10 forwards, four defencemen and two goaltenders. The NHLs top goal-scorer, Steven Stamkos, will not be among the players who travel to Europe at the end of the month. Even though an MRI on his injured left shoulder revealed no structural damage, the Tampa Bay Lightning star elected to pass on his invitation Tuesday. “Im going to rest the shoulder,” Stamkos told the Tampa Tribune. There should still be plenty of scoring to go around, with four 30-goal scorers (Corey Perry, John Tavares, Jordan Eberle, Evander Kane) from this season and a strong supporting cast that includes Jeff Skinner and Nugent-Hopkins, who put up 52 points in 62 games. The No. 1 pick from last years draft was never given the chance to represent Canada at the world junior tournament. He was cut at age 17 and wasnt made available by the Oilers this year. Hes heading to the world championship at a crucial time for Canada, which has dipped to fourth in the world rankings after consecutive quarter-final exits. The groupings for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia will be set once the tournament wraps up next month. “At every level when you put on the Canadian jersey its important, but this year at the mens worlds its very important,” Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson said Tuesday. “We want to win a gold.” General manager Kevin Lowe will continue to fill out his roster before the team travels to Zurich at the end of the month for a pair of exhibition games. It opens the world championship in Helsinki on May 4 against Slovakia. Canada last captured gold at the event in 2007. Oshie scored in the shootout to give the St. Louis Blues a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night. Alexander Steen and Chris Stewart scored for St. Louis in regulation time (9-2-2). Jaroslav Halak stopped 25 shots and turned away three shots in the shootout. Rene Bourque and Michael Bournival scored for Montreal (8-7-1), while Carey Price made 30 saves. The Blues outshot the Canadiens 32-27 overall. St. Louis opened the scoring at 2:38 of the first period when Steen fired home his league-leading 13th goal of the season. Blues captain David Backes started the play by stealing the puck from defender Douglas Murray, who was playing softly behind his own net. Backes pushed Murray down with little effort and passed the puck to a wide-open Steen, who beat Price over his left shoulder. Montreal tied the game at 5:38 of the second period. Andrei Markov drove hard to the net, knocking Halak in the process. With Halak still shaken up, the puck fell to Bourque in the crease, making no mistake from close range. Bournival put the Canadiens in front at 14:49, his fourth of the year, when he intercepted a poor pass from Jay Bouwmeester in the St. Louis zone and quickly fired a slap shot between Halaks legs. Stewart levelled the score at 10:31 of the third period by deflecting a Kevin Shattenkirk blue-line shot off the post and in past Price. Tomas& Plekanec was awarded a penalty shot in the final minute of the third period, but missed the net high and wide.dddddddddddd Overtime solved nothing before Oshie scored the shootout winner. Former Canadiens netminder Halak returned to Montreal for just the second time since being traded to the Blues in 2010. Halak earned a shutout in his only other trip to Montreal in Jan. 2012, beating 3-0 the team he once led deep into the playoffs. The Slovak goalie is now (3-0) against his old club. David Desharnais was out of the Canadiens lineup after a regrettable start to his season. The 27-year-old forward, who recently signed a 4-year contract extension with the Habs, has managed only one point in 15 games this season. Forward Martin St-Pierre, who was recently called up from the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL), made his Montreal Canadiens debut playing on the fourth line with George Parros and Ryan White, in place of Desharnais. St-Pierre, who currently leads the Bulldogs with eight points, finished the game with 9:53 of ice time. Téma: Jak postupovat / o has seen countless Buffalo Sabres interim coach Ted Nolan spoke to the Buffalo News Wednesday and said he believes they should build their team around goaltender Ryan Miller, who is set to become an unrestricted free agency this summer. “You look at all the championship teams and it starts from goaltending out. … I prefer you build around him rather than use him as a pawn to try and get something to make you better,” Nolan told the Buffalo News. “You learn to deal with the now as a coach and weve got one of the better goaltenders in the world here and Id like to build around him myself.” Though Nolan said he does not discuss contracts with players. He did however mention he had spoken with President of Hockey Operations Pat LaFontaine about creating a culture that draws in the best players. “I talked to Pat about this and I said the one thing we want to do is create an environment where people want to come here and stay here,” Nolan said. “Hopefully he likes what were doing. You never know.” After the New York Rangers recent signing of goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, Miller, Jaroslav Halak (Blues) and Jonas Hiller (Ducks) are the remaining top unrestricted free agent goaltenders. Nolan seems confident in the netminder. “You look at all the top guys, our top guy Ryan Miller, hes consistent all the time,” Nolan said. “Thats why Lundqvist gets a big contract. There are those guys and theres the rest of us.” . . PAUL, Minn. ANAHEIM, Calif. — Although Teemu Selanne has been playing in the NHL for more than two decades, he had never seen anything he could even compare to the goonery in the Anaheim Ducks latest victory. The Vancouver Canucks third-period antics aside, the NHL also hasnt seen much like these Ducks as they cut a swath through the league on their merciless winning streak. Corey Perry had two goals and two assists, Selanne had two goals and an assist, and the steamrolling Ducks beat Vancouver 9-1 Wednesday night for their 18th victory in 19 games. Nick Bonino scored also two goals for the NHL-leading Ducks, who earned their eighth consecutive victory by scoring a club-record six power-play goals against the NHLs best penalty-killing team. The Ducks got those opportunities thanks to a wholesale collapse by the Canucks, who picked up 58 penalty minutes in the third period with several old-time-hockey attempts to start a brawl. With four Canucks in the dressing room for misconduct, Vancouver gave a late seven-minute, two-man advantage to the Ducks, who scored twice to wrap up the highest-scoring performance in the franchises two-decade history. “What happened at the end, I havent really seen before,” said Selanne, who scored his 682nd career goal during the two-man advantage. “It was kind of weird. You dont want to finish the game like that … but this is still a confidence boost for us. Theyre a great team.” Andrew Cogliano, Jakob Silfverberg and Sami Vatanen also scored, and Frederik Andersen made 31 saves as Anaheim joined the 1967-68 Montreal Canadiens as the only teams in league history to win 18 times in a 19-game span. Vatanens score with 38 seconds left pushed the Ducks past the club-record eight goals, accomplished twice previously. Captain Ryan Getzlaf, rookie Hampus Lindholm and Vatanen had two assists apiece while Anaheim scored six power-play goals — one fewer than in their previous 15 games combined. “We just want to keep good habits and keep things fresh,” Cogliano said. “Obviously it got a little out of hand, and thats unfortunate. Ive been on the other side of that, and its not something thats fun.” The Ducks also improved to 20-0-2 at Honda Center, matching San Joses 2008-09 start for the longest home points streak to open a season in thhe last 34 years.dddddddddddd Zack Kassian scored for the Canucks in their seventh loss in eight games. Eddie Lack gave up three goals on 13 shots before getting chased early in the second period, and backup Joacim Eriksson was relentlessly battered in his NHL debut. “It got away from us,” Vancouver captain Henrik Sedin said. “Ive had a lot of disappointing losses. This was up there, but this was not a 9-1 game. This was not a 6-1 game. They had eight or nine minutes of 5-on-3. Theyre going to score when they get that.” Anaheim led 6-0 late in the second period, and the blowout got even uglier after the Ducks went up 7-1 in the third on Perrys 27th goal. Vancouvers Tom Sestito, Jannik Hansen and Kassian all got misconduct penalties with 7:11 to play, and Kevin Bieksa was sent to the showers moments later. “Im not even going to try to explain it,” Vancouver coach John Tortorella said. “One of those nights, so we plow along to our next game and get ready to play. … It does me no good, it does the players no good, to discuss anything that happened here.” Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau, who has seen countless minor-league shenanigans during a long hockey career, wasnt overly upset with the Canucks bush-league behaviour. “There was a lot of frustration on their part,” Boudreau said. “They just started punching our guys. It wasnt the brightest thing to do. What are the refs supposed to do? … It was just an unfortunate game for Vancouver. Im sure their next opponent is going to pay for that.” With just one loss since Dec. 3, Anaheim has opened a six-point lead atop the NHL standings on the defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks, who will host the Ducks on Friday night. The Ducks would have to beat Chicago and St. Louis in back-to-back road games this weekend to match the 1967-68 Canadiens, who won 20 of 21. NOTES: Andersen filled in capably for Jonas Hiller, who sat out with an illness. Hiller has won 14 straight games, the second-longest winning streak by a goalie in NHL history. … The 23-year-old Eriksson, in his first North American season, is filling in for Roberto Luongo, who has been out since Jan. 4. … Selanne is 11th on the NHLs career goals list, trailing Mario Lemieux by eight goals for 10th. Téma: Nadační fond - ONE MORE DAY FOR CHILDREN / A Few Thoughts on Decking Beronio Lumber has been serving Bay Area builders for over 90 years. Founded by Antone V. Beronio in 1911, the original yard was located on Powell and Beach streets on what was then San Francisco’s busy waterfront. Lumber was, mobile home roortop deck then, shipped by sea. We moved to our present location in San Francisco in 1941. From the beginning, we have always tried to provide a wide range of quality forest products. When first installed, a quality wood deck can have the appearance of a beautiful, hand finished wood floor. However, inviting the analogy, it must be remembered that there is a major distinction between a wood deck and a fine wood floor. A deck is exposed to the elements. Wood is a “natural” material, and is constantly effected by the world around it. So, it is a good idea to understand just what happens to wood left to the elements. Téma: Jak postupovat / after catching his head awkward BUFFALO, N.Y. — Mike Smiths unwitting mistake gave the short-handed Buffalo Sabres a 2-1 overtime win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday night. With 3:47 gone in overtime, Sabres defenceman Mark Pysyk took a shot that hit Martin Hanzal and became lodged in the back of Smiths jersey. The Coyotes goalie retreated into his crease, unknowingly carrying the puck across the line and ending the game. “I didnt feel it at all,” Smith said of the bizarre goal. “I didnt know what happened. I knew that puck went up in the air but had no idea where it went after that.” Ryan Miller made 36 saves for the Sabres, and said hes never seen anything quite like Mondays ending. “A little unlucky for Smith there,” Miller said. “I think hell be shaking his head for a while. Its a little bit of a Christmas present for us and well take it.” The Sabres started the game with just 16 skaters after a virus left Linus Omark, Cody Hodgson, Ville Leino, Marcus Foligno and Alexander Sulzer unable to play. Buffalo was only able to recall Pysyk and left wing Johan Larsson from its AHL affiliate in Rochester because the team was en route to the Spengler Cup tournament in Davos, Switzerland. Tyler Ennis also scored for Buffalo, which is 4-0-1 in its last five home games after starting the season 3-12-1 at First Niagara Center. The fans gave the Sabres several standing ovations throughout the contest, and the team went to centre ice to salute them after the game. “I play on emotion and when fans are just supportive like that, its a huge boost,” Sabres rookie centre Zemgus Girgensons said. “First 30 games fans were there for us but we didnt play well.” Hanzal scored for the Coyotes, who concluded a four-game road trip with a 1-1-2 record. Smith made 30 saves. Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said the odd ending fit his teams performance. “The game is an honest game,” he said. “If youre supposed to win, usually you can win. And we didnt deserve to win tonight, so those things happen.” Phoenix outshot Buffalo 15-3 in the first period, though the two best chances belonged to the Sabres. The Coyotes opened the scoring 19 seconds into the second period when Hanzal raised his stick to deflect Connor Murphys slap shot over Miller. The play was reviewed and it was determined Hanzals stick struck the puck below the height of the cross bar. Miller didnt like the call and directed blame to the NHL Situation Room in Toronto, which reviewed the goal. “It hit the top of his blade and his blade was up high,” the goalie said. “The puck wasnt rising, it was already over the crossbar in my mind so I think Toronto got it absolutely wrong.” Buffalo native and former Sabres left wing Tim Kennedy recorded an assist on the goal. Miller kept the deficit at 1 by coming out to the top of his crease to stop a high shot from Michael Stone. Girgensons was thwarted on a breakaway just two minutes later as Murphy grabbed the rookies stick before he could get a shot on Smith. There was no penalty on the play. Drew Stafford left the Sabres with 15 available skaters after receiving a five-minute elbowing penalty and game misconduct. Facing the boards to the right of Smith, Stafford swung his elbow backward at oncoming Oliver Ekman-Larsson and caught the defenceman in the face. The Sabres killed off 2 1/2 minutes of the major penalty before Hanzal took a roughing penalty. In the remaining 30 seconds, Smith stopped Otts slap shot during a 2-on-1 break. Buffalos penalty kill has been successful on 21 of its last 22 chances. “Short bench, all the penalties we had, it didnt seem like anything in the game was really going our way,” Girgensons said. “We just worked probably the hardest weve worked throughout the whole season and stuck to the system. Thats the way we won.” Ennis tied the score 14:01 into the third. Girgensons forced a turnover at the Coyotes blue line and found Ennis, who beat Smith for his eighth goal of the season. “The guy just fell and I lifted his stick and slid the puck through the two guys I was hoping it would go through and Ennis finished it really good,” Girgensons said. Jamie McBain had a partial breakaway in overtime but was stopped by Smith, who quickly had to make a second stop on McBain. The game ended moments later with Pysyks goal. “I just put it on net, figuring Id maybe get a rebound,” Pysyk said. “Just popped up right in the air and was lucky enough that he spun and it went right into the net.” Smith was embarrassed by his teams effort considering the Sabres line-up woes and an impending three-day break for Christmas. “That was embarrassing as far as Im concerned,” he said. “You go on a Christmas break, you have three days off and you come out like that? I think thats a bunch of garbage as far as far as Im concerned.” NOTES: The Sabres placed C Kevin Porter on injured reserve before the game and assigned D Chad Ruhwedel to AHL Rochester. … Phoenix scratched Gilbert Brule for the first time in three games. … John Scott played forward and defence for the Sabres. Téma: Jak postupovat / Africa for the first time. Som PARIS — Milos Raonic hopes his recent success on clay leads to a long run at the French Open. The Canadian star won his opening match at the second Grand Slam of the year on Sunday, beating Australian wildcard Nick Kyrgios 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 to reach the second round. Raonic, the eighth seed from Thornhill, Ont., needed exactly two hours to advance against one of the games rising young stars. He also beat an Australian opponent for the first time at a Grand Slam after losing to Carsten Ball at the 2010 U.S. Open and Lleyton Hewitt at the 2012 Australian Open. He won on his third match point, sealing victory with a 27th ace. Raonic, who came to Roland Garros from a Rome semifinal last weekend, finished with 50 winners and 30 unforced errors, breaking on four of ten chances. “I felt very good, I was able to do the things I wanted to do,” said Raonic, who next plays one of two Czechs, Lukas Rosol of Jiri Vesely. “In the first round you go in not knowing exactly how things are going to play out. When it mattered, I was able to put forward the right attitude and the right level of tennis. Im happy with that.” Raonic has a career record of 32-23 on clay courts, compared to 100-42 on hard surfaces that dont deaden his powerful serve. But Raonic had two quarter-final appearances as well as the Rome semifinal in four clay-court tournaments leading up to the French Open. Hes trying to go beyond the third round at Roland Garros for the first time in his career. Later Sunday, sixth seed Tomas Berdych beat Canadian qualifier Peter Polansky of Thornhill 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Polansky, ranked 137th and playing in only his sixth career singles main draw at a major, last played a Grand Slam at the 2010 US Open. He was successful on only one of six break points while committing 21 unforced errors with 15 winners. “Its good to be back in the main draw of a slam,” said Polansky. "I played well and enjoyed it. I was hoping to get a better draw, there are a lot of guys I could have beaten today. “I played well, I just came up a it short. But I take a lot of positives out of the last few weeks. Maybe I have more belief in my game now that Im older.” Raonic said that despite heavy conditions in wet Paris, the courts held up well compared to Rome. “Theyre quite similar, though here they can change a little bit more due to the cloud coverage and not really that much sun the last few days,” he said. "The ball wasnt bouncing as much as it had actually the last days on the outside courts. The 23-year-old Raonic used his experience against the young Australian, reducing Kyrgios to racket-hurling frustration after breaking immediately after losing serve in the second set. Raonic began the third set with a break for 2-0, lost it, but again gained the lead 4-2 on his way to victory. Raonic said that he was having trouble at times on serve, but managed to fight through the problem. “I was getting it together when it mattered, and thats all I can really ask,” he said. “There was some moments where I was losing a little bit of concentration on my level, and I was able to put it together when I was in the important moments.” After answering on-court questions in French, Raonic then said he would tweet a message in the language later. He said he would have the tweet proofed by an expert speaker before broadcasting it to his 143,000 followers. cheap nfl jerseys . The Kings were received penalties for both hooking and goaltender interference in the final minute of regulation play.Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington are the cities still in the running for a possible U.S. bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. A person briefed on the U.S. Olympic Committees decision-making process told The Associated Press on Friday that all four cities are still in consideration. The person requested anonymity because the USOC has not made an official announcement. Los Angeles hosted the 1932 and 1984 Olympics. The other three cities would be first-time hosts. But theres an arduous and expensive process facing any potential bid city before the International Olympic Committee awards the games in 2017. Over the next six months, the USOC will decide whether it even wants to try to host the Olympics. The last two U.S. candidates both suffered humiliating fourth-place finishes: New York for the 2012 Olympics and Chicago for the 2016 Games that went to Rio de Janeiro If the USOC goes ahead with the bid, the U.S. ccity would find itself in a spirited battle.dddddddddddd Paris, Rome, Doha and Istanbul are among those that could enter the race. The IOC has also long stated a desire to bring the Olympics to Africa for the first time. Some inside the USOC feel the time is right for a bid, now that the federation has made progress in shoring up some of its international relationships, which were frayed in 2009 when Chicago finished last in the voting for the 2016 Games. The USOC is waiting to see what sort of changes the IOC might make in the bidding process when it meets later this year. New IOC President Thomas Bach is asking the committee to build a new roadmap for the Olympics, and the way the IOC handles bids is expected to be on that agenda. “We clearly want to see output from that working group and what changes are adopted before we push the go button on 2024,” USOC chairman Larry Probst said earlier this week.
