Téma: Jak postupovat / "She has indicated she might con OTTAWA — Focus has been the key to the Los Angeles Kings recent success. Anze Kopitar scored twice as the Kings beat the Ottawa Senators 5-2 on Saturday afternoon for their sixth straight win. In many ways this game was over before it even started as the Kings took control of the game, scoring twice by the four-minute mark. The game could have been much uglier had Los Angeles not let up in the second period. “We kind of slacked a little after we were up 3-0,” said Kings defenceman Drew Doughty. “We let them back in the game and they started outshooting us and taking the play to us and after they got those two we had to get back in the game.” Los Angeles now has a 22-7-4 record, third-best in the NHL. Ottawa, meanwhile, continues to struggle with afternoon games. The Senators are now 1-6-1 when the puck drops before 7 p.m. “They got off to a better start than us so they carry momentum early,” said Ottawas Jason Spezza. Jeff Carter, Dwight King and Jarrett Stoll also scored for L.A. Rookie goaltender Martin Jones extended his winning streak to five games, stopping 37 shots. Joe Corvo and Erik Karlsson scored for the Senators (13-15-6), who saw their home record drop to 6-9-3 for the year. Starter Craig Anderson was pulled after allowing two goals on four shots in 4:18. Robin Lehner finished the game allowing three goals on 22 shots. L.A. took control early on as King opened the scoring just 21 seconds into the game beating Anderson blocker side. Carters goal at 4:18 put an end to Andersons afternoon as he looked awful on the play. “I had a bad day,” said Anderson. "Everyone has a bad day once in a while. It just so happens the red light goes on when I make a mistake. Its all magnified that way. It stinks, but I cant focus too much on it, Ive got to move forward and put it behind you. “Its a little blip on the radar and one of those things where the sooner you forget about it the better off youll be.” Senators coach Paul MacLean admitted that Andersons rough start made it that much more difficult for his team. “We didnt get saves early,” said MacLean. “That team that we played is a very good team. They play a certain way and they play that way the whole game and they make it difficult for you and they certainly did that (Saturday).” While Anderson had his share of struggles his teammates say they didnt offer much help. “Its a (bad) goal, but at the same time we cant just put it on (Anderson) in that situation,” said defenceman Erik Karlsson. “The things hes done for us in the past is probably way more than just one unlucky bounce there so we should be able to clean it up there for him. Obviously today we didnt have his back like he usually has ours.” Things didnt get any better as Kopitar made it 3-0 after beating Lehner from in close. That marked the 18th straight game in which the Kings did not allow a goal in the first period. “We just keep winning,” said Stoll. “Theres just a bunch of things going right right now. We just have to make sure we keep on top of it.” The Senators finally managed to give the 17,140 fans in attendance something to cheer about midway through the second as Corvo was able to jump on Spezzas rebound and beat the 23-year-old Jones on the left side. Ottawa made things close as Karlsson made it 3-2 at the four-minute mark of the third, but were never able to score the equalizer as Jones was solid. “We stuck to it as good as we could,” said Ottawas Erik Karlsson. “We won the second period and got an early goal in the third, but unfortunately wasnt able to hold on for the tie.” Stoll made it 4-2 at 13:18 of the third as he picked up a Drew Doughty rebound and Kopitar scored his second of the game on the power play with just over three minutes remaining putting an end to any hopes of a Senators comeback. Notes: D Jared Cowen sat out the second of his two-game suspension. D Marc Methot missed his second game due to the flu and LW Matt Kassian was a healthy scratch for the Senators. Cory Conacher turned 24. a The Kings were without C Colin Fraser due to a concussion. RW Matt Frattin, RW Linden Vey and D Matt Greene were a healthy scratch. Téma: Jak postupovat / later, now he all of a sud Every night of the Stanley Cup playoffs, TSN hockey analyst and former NHL goaltender Jamie McLennan breaks down each goalies performance. Jamies number grades given are out of five, with five being the best mark. Carey Price, Montreal Canadiens (5) – He had a huge game, with no better series saver than the paddle save on Milan Lucic in the second period. He had great rebound control all night long, handled the puck well and didnt allow second chances. Price also had big saves on Jarome Iginla, Davif Krejci, Carl Soderberg and Patrice Bergeron. His big save on Bergeron helped turn it around immediately as the Habs scored the same play. He was the best player on the ice for the Habs on Monday night. He had a huge game when it counted, especially in the second when the Bruins pressed hard. Tuukka Rask, Boston Bruins (3) – Rask had no chance on the first goal by Lars Eller, as it was caused by a tough turnover early in the game. In the second goal, he wasnt set on Max Paciorettys partial breakaway and allowed a five-hole goal that he should stop. Rask did make great saves on Rene Bourque, Brendan Gallagher, Eller and Tomas Plekanec. The third goal by Montreal was a scramble play around the net. He was just good on Monday night. He didnt lose them the game, but didnt win it for them like Price did. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings (2) – Quick guessed on the wrong side on Nick Boninos goal and was screened, with not much help on the back door goal (Mathieu Perreault/Devante Smith-Pelley goal). And Smith-Pelleys secondgoal on a breakaway finished with a nice move. Quick has cooled off in his game since the first two starts of the series. Hell needs to be a difference maker in the next game, as hes just been okay. John Gibson, Anaheim Ducks (4) – Gibson was solid again. He had chance on the Trevor Lewis goal, as it was a deflection off of Bryan Allens arm. He made big saves on Tyler Toffoli and then off Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar in the second on the penalty kill – then a huge left pad save on Gaborik early in the third. Gibsons positioning and rebound control was very strong and he showed good poise again. . But in the aftermath a 115-91 pounding of the Utah Jazz on Saturday night, Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey insisted it was still invaluable for evaluating the depth of his team early in the season.Floyd Mayweather Jr. knows his audience, theres no doubt. Boxings superstar arrived in South Africa on Wednesda wearing a T-shirt with a bright yellow map of Africa on the front. Below it, his TMT logo — that stands for The Money Team — was in the colours of the South African flag. Mayweather told South African fans he had arrived in the “motherland.” He even said he might fight here one day. “Money” Mayweather swooped into Johannesburg for the start of a four-city visit to South Africa and first trip to the African continent, and was hustled by security straight through a packed airport terminal and into a Rolls Royce. He sped off with no more than a few words, delivered on the run, to hundreds who had gathered to greet him. It didnt seem to disappoint any of them. Later, Mayweather was more generous with his time, speaking to reporters for around an hour about his future fight plans and this trip. Well, part of the audience was reporters. Many of those fans had also somehow infiltrated the news conference, beefy security and all, meaning there were fewer questions and more statements of Mayweathers general greatness. James Dalton, a former South African rugby international, stood up and thanked “Mr. Mayweather” for making the trip and honouring South Africa. Rugby players are a big deal in South Africa, but Mayweather apparently is bigger. The biggest thing in boxing. No surprise that Mayweather Jr. earned a guaranteed $41.5 million in his last bout, a dominating majority decision over Canelo Alvarez that was the richest fight in the world and made around $150 million on TV sales alone. And with those kinds of figures, the 36-year-old five-division world champion is in no rush to give in to Manny Pacquiaos pleas for a fight, he said. “As far as my last fight with . I cant even remember the guys name. Canelo! They all the same to me,” Mayweather said. “So, as far as myy fight with Canelo, they said Floyd Mayweathers record could never be broken without the Pacquiao fight and as you have seen what we did, the fight done crazy numbers.dddddddddddd” Mayweather also suggested Pacquiaos renewed desire to make their mega fight happen came out of desperation after the Filipinos back-to-back losses to Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012, and his tax problems. “I offered Manny Pacquiao the fight before,” Mayweather said. "We didnt see eye to eye on terms. Years later we come back and I try and make the fight happen again. I offer him $40 million. He said he wanted 50-50. So we didnt make the fight happen. “All of a sudden, he loses to Timothy Bradley, he loses to Marquez … he has tax problems now. So, two losses and tax problems later, now he all of a sudden want to say: You know what? Id do anything to make the fight happen, when hes really saying: Floyd, can you help me solve my tax problems, get me out of debt?” Instead, Mayweather named Britains Amir Khan and Argentinas Marcos Maidana as contenders to be his next opponent on May 3 in Las Vegas. Mayweather said nothing was finalized but they would know who it was within a week. And it wasnt all business. Mayweather had a couple of pretty good wisecracks saved up, too. He said he didnt call himself “the greatest,” as that was Muhammad Ali. He rather referred to himself as “TBE” — the best ever. Asked how he would go about fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr., he replied, deadpan: “I wouldnt fight Floyd Mayweather.” Mayweather is due to also visit the cities of Bloemfontein, East London and Cape Town on his near week-long trip, which South Africa says will help “resuscitate” its own struggling boxing code. And he gave South Africans a glimmer of hope of their own Mayweather mega fight. “Its been a dream of mine to fight here,” he said. You can watch the game live on TSN2 and TSN GO at 7pm et/4pm pt. Boston has struggled on its nine-game road trip, but can close the trek with wins in three of its last four games after a brilliant effort from Brandon Workman in the Red Sox 1-0 win on Tuesday. Workman (1-0) had allowed only a walk to Nelson Cruz before Ryan Flaherty laced a clean single with two out in the bottom of the sixth. It was one of only two hits by Baltimore on the night, with Andrew Miller, Junichi Tazawa and Koji Uehara finishing off the shutout after Workman stymied the Orioles through 6 2/3 innings. “He was outstanding, especially in light of the two different rain delays,” Boston manager John Farrell said of Workman. Bostons pitchers made Mike Napolis third-inning RBI single hold up to give the Red Sox just their second victory in eight games. Chris Tillman (5-3) was saddled with the hard-luck loss after permitting the lone run in six innings of work. “I was really pleased with Chris,” Os manager Buck Showalter said.dddddddddddd “Unfortunately they just pitched a little better than we did.” Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, suspended five games pending an appeal earlier in the day for throwing his bat onto the field Sunday against Oakland, was in the lineup and went 0-for-4. Heading to the hill for Boston on Wednesday will be righty Rubby De La Rosa, who is 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA. De La Rosa absorbed the loss on Friday in Detroit, as he surrendered four runs in 5 2/3 innings. He had tossed seven scoreless innings in his season debut a week earlier. “I feel almost 100 percent like last time,” De La Rosa said. “I just missed more pitches.” Baltimore, meanwhile, will turn to lefty Wei-Yin Chen, who is 6-2 with a 4.13 ERA. Chen did not factor in the decision of his teams 4-3 loss on Friday to Oakland, as he allowed two runs and five hits in 6 1/3 frames. Chen beat Boston earlier in the year and is 3-3 lifetime against them with a 5.26 ERA in nine starts. Boston has won five of its nine meetings with the Orioles this season. Téma: Jak postupovat / ormer team. Slidin To figure out two things NHL general managers will be discussing at their annual March meeting, look no further than the controversial game the Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings played in mid-January. First, the Red Wings scored the tying goal after officials missed the puck hitting the protective netting, then the Kings wound up losing in a shootout. That could affect playoff positioning in the Eastern and Western Conferences, and thats a concern for everyone. No different than many fans, GMs hate to see a game end on an incorrect call and generally dont like to see one end in a shootout. So its only natural that altering or extending overtime and expanding video review will be hot topics on the agenda for meetings Monday through Wednesday in Boca Raton, Fla. When it comes to overtime, the hope is to have fewer games even reach the shootout, which was instituted after the 2004-05 lockout as a way of eliminating ties. Since then, 13.3 per cent of all regular-season games have gone to one, and thats seen as too much. “I would prefer for our game to be decided by playing hockey instead of the skill part of the game, which is the shootout,” Jim Nill of the Dallas Stars said. “Its really tough. You can play a great game, play a great overtime and then you go to a shootout and just because you lose a shootout it feels like youve lost the game — and you have, and it hurts because you played such a good game. I would rather lose a game by playing the game.” Through Saturday, 121 of 962 games this season have gone to a shootout (12.57 per cent). Each team has participated in at least four, while the Washington Capitals lead the league with 15 of them through 64 games. A handful of general managers said in recent weeks that there was an appetite to reduce the number of shootouts by making some changes to overtime. Detroit GM Ken Holland has long sought adding time or a three-on-three element to overtime, and it has come time that Don Maloney of the Phoenix Coyotes figures more members of the group are “open-minded to reviewing it and discussing it.” “In the past, it was generally touched on but deferred,” Maloney said. “And I think as you go on with the parity of the league, I think we all have to take a harder look.” Jim Rutherford of the Carolina Hurricanes usually sits near Holland at these meetings and is in favour of his proposals to change overtime. After plenty of talk over the years, perhaps more will get on board. “I think were heading that way,” Rutherford said. “Its been talked about a long time, this is not something new. I dont know how many minutes itll end up being — the total minutes in overtime. Thats really where the big discussion will come. But I think the fact that this has been discussed for a few years now, I think its gaining some momentum going into this meeting.” What that momentum will turn into remains to be seen. Rutherford and Holland would like five minutes of the already-established four-on-four followed by five minutes of three-on-three, while Doug Armstrong of the St. Louis Blues voiced support for simply making four-on-four overtime longer. But, as Doug Wilson of the San Jose Sharks knows, change in the NHL tends to go in “phases.” So its possible that the first change to overtime is a very subtle one: teams changing ends like they do in the second period so that theres a longer way to go for players to get off the ice for line changes. “I would be a hundred per cent in support,” Maloney said. “If you look at the second period and the (long) line changes how often mistakes are made, and bad line changes lead to rushes. All of a sudden you do that in overtime with four people and the tiredness of the game, I think thats a natural evolution, myself. I think thats the first step.” Red Wings coach Mike Babcock brought that up in Sochi after seeing overtime in the womens gold-medal game between Canada and the United States. Mistakes led to three penalties and then a power-play goal 8:10 into overtime. “The NHL looks at that right there, we want overtime to be over in a hurry, all you do is flip ends, make it as hard as you can,” Babcock said while at the Olympics. “Its harder on the long change.” Another subject that will get plenty of discussion is video review, which is currently limited to the situation room in Toronto determining if a goal was good or not. Even though it was just one instance, that Jan. 18 game between the Red Wings and Kings is example A for expanding review. “You can count on one hand how many times they miss a puck hitting the net, but that specific case and it ended up as a goal, yeah, it probably shouldve been (reviewed) — maybe if the video department had that authority, it wouldve been used,” Maloney said. “And I think we all agree that in that case that was just wrong, and we need to correct that.” Several general managers cautioned that too much replay can be a bad thing. Just as its being debated in baseball and football, the biggest pitfall to more video reviews is the time they can take. “Our game is part of momentum and keeping the game going,” Rutherford said. "But at the same time, the league has always said that they want to get goals right. We saw an example (in Detroit) where it had nothing to do with the guidelines of how the league proceeds, but we didnt get one right. “So thats something that well discuss, Im sure. But theres a fine line there: How many times can you review things in a game without slowing it down to change the time of a game another 15 minutes.” In that same vein, Nill would like to see “tweaks” to video review in important cases but doesnt want the NHL to become a “robotic” game with frequent calls to the situation room. Still, theres a ground swell to at least add replay in isolated cases, like on plays goals are scored on. That may not mean instituting a challenge system for coaches right away but perhaps something more simple. “It would be nice to just have a monitor in the penalty box for the official to gather as much information to make the right call because theyre closest to the action like they have in other leagues,” Wilson said, pointing to the model used in the NFL and NBA. Some things, like goaltender interference, would require a stricter interpretation to be subject to video review. Penalties, like players putting the puck over the glass or getting a double-minor called for high-sticking, would fall into another category to be considered. “I think everything thats critical to the outcome of the game, if its conveniently available, we should review,” Columbus GM Jarkko Kekalainen said. “Not to disturb the flow of the game and the time of each game as a whole — we dont want games to last four hours or anything like that. But with the technology these days I think that there should be some kind of a system where all the critical plays can be reviewed so that we dont see the (wrong) outcomes.” With three days of meetings scheduled on Floridas east coast, general managers are expected to delve into a host of other topics, including the regulation — or elimination |

LAC-MEGANTIC, Que. — The Montreal Canadiens held a practice in the disaster-stricken town of Lac-Megantic, Que., in a show of support Thursday for the community. The Habs rolled into town on a bus whose passengers included team owner Geoff Molson and general manager Marc Bergevin. “Driving down the road, you take a deep breath. Its hard. Its hard to see it,” Molson said. “But at the same time the people are here today, and theyre happy, and it looks like the city is being rebuilt so that gives me pleasure at the same time.” Cheers from the 1,300 people in the arena greeted them as they took the ice, with kids tapping on the glass to get the players attention and request autographs. It was the latest in a string of good-will gestures directed at the community, following benefit shows and free concert tickets from Paul McCartney. The Habs themselves have already held a scrimmage at the Bell Centre where cash raised from the $5 tickets went to a Lac-Megantic fund. They also invited survivors and emergency personnel to pre-season games, and held a minute of silence during a pre-game tribute. “I think we probably had 150 ideas of what we could do (for Lac-Megantic),” said Molson. “We put together a little task force. Im not going to give any individual credit. I think its a team effort and Im proud to be here.” Lac-Megantic mayor Colette Roy-Laroche said watching the Canadiens play on Saturday nights on television was a sacred ritual in her family wheen she was growing up.dddddddddddd “Its a pleasure and an honour to have the whole team and Mr. Molson here,” she said. “Im delighted and proud. Subban told reporters that the team felt it was important to go to Lac-Megantic, and appreciated seeing so many happy and excited children. His teammate David Desharnais was moved by what he saw. “You see it on TV, but when you see it with your own eyes and you realize how devastating it was,” he said. "Were glad we came. “I saw a lot of smiles in the stands. If we can bring a little joy to people and show them were behind them, well be happy.” From the excitement in the stands, it was clear the visit was a success. “We love hockey,” said Lac Megantic resident Gaston Breault. "Its a chance for us to see the Canadiens in person. “It was good of them to do this.” Forty-seven people were killed, and a part of the town was razed, when a train derailed on July 5, smashing into the town centre and erupting in fireballs. The disaster has prompted various investigations and lawsuits, all of which are ongoing. Téma: Jak postupovat / nd we have it right now." The EDMONTON — Not many teams have managed to make the Buffalo Sabres look good this season, but the Edmonton Oilers found a way to do it on Thursday. Cory Conacher had two goals and an assist as the Sabres snapped a lengthy seven-game losing skid, emerging with a 3-1 victory over the Oilers in a battle between the teams with the worst records in the NHL. Drew Stafford also scored for the Sabres (20-42-8) who had been outscored 21-6 in their previous seven losses. “It was huge,” Stafford said. "The way that this year has gone and the challenges we have gone through, we will take any win at this point, regardless of who it is against. That was one of our more complete efforts. “We had some discipline issues, but had a great PK. We also had more than one goal, which is big. Getting a 3-1 lead, Im not sure I can remember the last time we had a comfortable lead like that where we could lock in our system and take over the game.” Sabres head coach Ted Nolan said his team earned the two points on the night as they ran their road record to just 8-22-3. “It is good to finally play a half decent game,” he said. “When you lose, you get what you deserve, and we have been getting what we deserved. We werent playing very well, but tonight we got what we deserved.” Conacher scored his first goal as a Sabre since being claimed on waivers from Ottawa at the trade deadline, and his first goal overall since Dec. 28. “It was refreshing,” he said. "Ive already had to get the monkey off my back once before this year, and it feels like it came off again tonight. Maybe this was the game I needed to open the floodgates a bit. The most important part was getting the win, though. Taylor Hall responded for the Oilers (25-37-9) who saw a two-game winning streak end. The Oilers, now 10-5-3 in their last 18 games, are in second-last behind the Sabres. “You look at some games on the schedule and you think, oh, its going to be an easy night, but Ive learned in this league that anything can happen,” Hall said. "Whether youre playing the St Louis Blues or Buffalo, you have to come in with the same mind-set. “It doesnt matter what place theyre in or anything, every game is hard and just because we lost to the team behind us doesnt mean were going to come to the rink and sulk tomorrow. As long as the work ethic is there and the battle and the compete … as long as we have that, were proud.” Oilers captain Andrew Ference said his team just didnt seem to have that second effort that has seen them come back in games of late. “Weve been able to take the tempo of game and take control of the third period recently and we just didnt do that tonight,” he said. "Their second goal was just putting the puck to the net and it didnt seem as though we responded as well as weve had in the last two weeks. “We just lacked that extra couple of notches on the dial tonight.” Little happened for the bulk of the first period, save for a spirited scrap between Edmontons Luke Gazdic and Buffalos Zenon Konopka. Edmonton had numerous chances on the power play late in the first, including posts hit by Justin Schultz and Hall, before the two connected for a man-advantage goal on Buffalo goalie Matt Hacket, who was making his first start of the season for the Sabres. Schultz made a quick pass to Hall in the centre of the right faceoff circle and he blew a one-timer past Hacket with two minutes left in the first period for his 24th goal of the season. Hacket was recently called up from Rochester of the AHL with normal goalies Jhonas Enroth and Michal Neuvirth out with injuries. The Sabres tied the game with a power-play goal of their own just before the midway point of the second period as Conacher was able to tip a Jamie McBain point shot past Oilers goalie Ben Scrivens. Buffalo took a 2-1 lead 1:09 into the third period as a soft Schultz clearing attempt was intercepted by Torrey Mitchell and his shot on net was once again tipped past Scrivens by Conacher for his second of the game and sixth of the season. The Sabres took a two-goal lead five minutes into the third as Scrivens was down and out on a rebound that came back to Stafford, who scored his fifth goal in the last seven games. Hacket made 35 saves for the victory in the Buffalo net. The Oilers play the third game of a six-game homestand on Saturday against the Calgary Flames. The Sabres play the third game of a five-game road trip on Sunday in Vancouver. Notes: It was the second of a pair of meetings between the Oilers and Sabres this season. Edmonton won the first game 3-2 on Feb. 3a In their seven losses before facing the Oilers, only two Sabres players recorded goals – Drew Stafford (four goals) and Tyler Ennis (two goals)a Hacket became the fourth goalie used by Buffalo in the last four gamesa Both teams were fairly banged up for the game. Notable absences for the Oilers included forwards Jordan Eberle (knee) and Nail Yakupov (ankle), while the Sabres were without defencemen Tyler Myers (elbow) and Alexander Sulzer (upper body) and forwards Chris Stewart (ankle) and Zemgus Girgensons (lower body). DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The day race at Daytona International Speedway ended up at night. And now the night race will go off during the day. Steady rain forced NASCAR to postpone the Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night. Its the second race at Daytona this year delayed by rain. The season-opening Daytona 500 was stopped for more than six hours because of rain and ended under the lights. “We seem to have a little bad luck with the weather,” said Joie Chitwood III, the track president. “We had it in February and we have it right now.” The Coke Zero 400 will start at 11 a.m. Sunday, about 14 hours after officials postponed the event. The forecast calls for more rain Sunday, but Chitwood said scheduling an early start gives NASCAR a “bigger window of time to get it in.” The race was supposed to start at 7:577 p.ddddddddddddm. Saturday, but showers soaked the 2 1/2-mile superspeedway and forced officials to delay the green flag and eventually postpone the race. This is the fourth Cup race affected by rain this season and the second to be postponed a day. Bristol also was affected by rain, and Texas was delayed a day. Despite the latest washout, Chitwood does not want the race moved from its traditional Saturday night spot around the July Fourth holiday. The race has been run in that spot for 27 years, and prior to that, it went on the annual holiday itself. Chitwood was reminded of what a rain-free event looked like as he watched a replay of last years Coke Zero 400 during Saturdays delay. “The crowd was fantastic and the weather was good and we gave the fans a heck of a show,” he said. “I think July Fourth weekend is a great time.” cheap nfl jerseys ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Jak postupovat / ckets-jersey-sale/] BUFFALO, N.Y. — After watching his team fail to hold a big lead in its previous game, Barry Trotz was happy to watch the Predators build another and hold on for a win. “Last night we cheated in a couple areas,” Trotz said. “Tonight we managed the puck better. We exited better. All those type of things were much better for us.” Nashville scored twice in a five-minute span in the second period on the way to a 4-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. It marked the second straight win for the Predators, who lost a 3-0 advantage in Ottawa on Monday before beating the Senators in overtime. “We werent going to let that happen two games in a row,” said Colin Wilson, who had two assists for Nashville. Shea Weber had a goal and an assist for the Predators, who also got goals from Nick Spaling, Craig Smith and Paul Gaustad. Drew Stafford scored for Buffalo, which has lost three in a row. After Nashville built a 3-1 lead, backup goaltender Carter Hutton helped stave off a Buffalo attack that controlled possession and outshot Nashville 11-5 in the second period. “Keeping that two-goal lead going into the third was pretty huge for us, confidence heading out there,” Hutton said. “After last night, we knew we were going to lock it down and play our game.” Hutton had allowed multiple goals in eight consecutive starts entering the game, but was stout on Tuesday. “Hutton was really good,” Trotz said. “He stabilized us when they had a little push.” The Predators arrived in Buffalo after 2 a.m. after Mondays game at Ottawa and skipped their morning skate before having to fight off a slow start to Tuesdays game. “It was penalties right off the bat,” Trotz said. “First five minutes, we were killing the four. Thats a hard way to get going, especially when youre in back-to-back. Those are hard minutes.” An early power play helped Buffalo take a 1-0 lead at 2:09 of the first as Stafford pulled a rebound away from Huttons left pad to score his 12th goal of the season. The goal ended a 0-for-11 slump for the Sabres power play, and came in Staffords 500th career NHL game. Yet aside from Staffords line, Buffalo had trouble generating offence. “There was only one line basically going,” Sabres interim head coach Ted Nolan said. “Youre not going to win too many games doing that.” Nashvilles equalizer came at the 17:10 mark of the first period, as Spaling used his skate to deflect a Weber shot past Jhonas Enroth. The power-play goal came on Nashvilles only attempt with the man advantage. Tied at 1 after 20 minutes, Weber picked up a drop pass from Wilson and beat Enroth to make it 2-1 at the 3:33 mark of the second. Smith doubled Nashvilles advantage at 7:51. His low slap shot from just in front of the blue line beat Enroth between the legs. The goal was Smiths 20th of the season, a career best. “Its great, a good feeling,” Smith said. “We just have to keep moving forward, trying to make a little push here.” The game was a shaky one for Enroth, who had played well since Buffalo traded Ryan Miller to St. Louis on Feb. 28. Buffalos Zenon Konopka was challenged to fight by Gaustad at 9:20 of the second after the Sabres forward put an open-ice hit on Viktor Stalberg. Gaustad received a two-minute instigator and 10-minute misconduct in addition to his fighting major. Trotz thought the penalty was questionable, and appreciated Gaustads response. “To me that was a really good glue play,” Trotz said. "We thought it was a questionable hit and thats what you want your team to stand up for each other. “Gaustad knows how tough Konopka is, and thats why hes so valuable to us. He brings those intangibles. He does whats right and is very detailed in his game.” Hutton made a big save on Tyler Ennis moments later. Stafford worked the puck behind the net before passing to Cody Hodgson, whose high shot was gloved by the Nashville goaltender. “He made a bunch of great saves that kept us in it,” Wilson said of Hutton. “It could have been a bit of a different game if they got a couple at the beginning there.” The Sabres finished 1 for 4 on the power play. Gaustad added an empty-net goal at the 18:29 mark of the third period to a chorus of boos from a crowd that chanted his nickname “Goose” when he was a Sabre. “We joked about that,” Gaustad said. “I didnt know when I was here if they were booing me or saying my name. Some of the best fans and people on Earth. Salt of the earth people.” Nashville finishes a three-game road trip on Friday in Chicago, while Buffalo begins a stretch of playing 12 of its next 17 on the road. “Their confidence is a little bit rattled right now,” Nolan said. “But through tough times like this you find out true character of certain players and through some ashes sometimes there rises some people.” NOTES: Sabres LW Matt Ellis played in his 300th NHL game. … Patrick Eaves was scratched after going pointless in his first three games with the Predators after being acquired in a trade with Detroit for David Legwand. … Sabres rookie C Zemgus Girgensons missed his third game with an undisclosed injury. Téma: Jak postupovat / ho plays profe NEWARK, N.J. — For the second straight game, the Los Angeles Kings used a strong third period to get a road victory. Dwight King and Anze Kopitar scored third-period goals and Ben Scrivens made 26 saves to lift the Kings to a 2-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night. Scrivens, playing for the injured Jonathan Quick, got a 3-2 win on Thursday over the Islanders when the Kings scored three times in the third period. The Kings finish their New York City metropolitan area trip with a game at Madison Square Garden on Sunday against the Rangers. “The confidence was there after winning on the island,” Scrivens said. “Its obviously important to stop every shot.” Scrivens came up with 12 saves in the first period when he was tested by the Devils. “We probably deserved to have one or two in the first period,” Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. “We just didnt take advantage in the first. Were not a pretty group offensively. We have to score some ugly goals. We all feel for (Schneider) He cant do more than what hes doing. Its frustrating for all of us.” Kings sixth goal of the season came at 13:08. Defenceman Jake Muzzins drive from the left point was redirected by King, standing in front of goalie Cory Schneider. “It came off a line change,” King said. “They were battling on the wall and it got to the point, I was wide open at the net and he slid one on the ice and I got a stick on it. We came back last night and tonight. We had to find a way to win and thats what good teams do.” Kopitar scored an empty-net goal with 2.9 seconds left. Schneider made 19 saves. “Hes a solid goaltender,” Kopitar said of Scrivens. “We got off to a little bit of a slow start and we kept building up our game, making plays. Eventually in the third, we got one.” Fridays game was the Kings first visit to the Prudential Center since playing the Devils in the 2012 Stanley Cup finals. The Kings nearly scored 7:33 into the third period. Muzzin centred a puck from the left side of the blue line. New Jersey defenceman Andy Greene put out his stick and deflected it on goal, where Schneider alertly made the save. In the second period, defenceman Peter Harrold was whistled for a four-minute penalty when he was called for high sticking Tyler Toffoli of the Kings. But King was penalized for hooking 50 seconds into the power play and sat for two minutes. Harrold was the recipient of a hit to the head by Jordan Nolan with 1:31 left in the second. The centre put his shoulder down and levelled Harrold with a shot to the side of his head. Harrold was face-down on the ice, but, after play was stopped, he managed to skate off on his own. Harrold returned to regular shifts in the third period. The Devils were the aggressors in the scoreless first period, but couldnt solve Scrivens. “(Schneider) has played unbelievable for us so far this year and we havent given him the goal support,” Devils winger Stephen Gionta said. “I thought we played a pretty good controlled game in their end, but we could have gotten to the net a little more.” NOTES: The power-play goal by Kopitar in the closing seconds broke a string of 12 straight kills over three games by the Devils. … Jaromir Jagr has 120 career game-winning goals, just one behind the NHL record held by Gordie Howe. … Patrik Elias returned after a six-game absence for the Devils, who also got back Stephen Gionta. Too long for Benito Floro. So while Canadas pair of friendlies against Bulgaria and Moldova in Austria are a continuation of the coachs plan to bring young players into the Canadian team fold, theyre also very much about winning. “We need to win because it is very important for us to improve our psychology and mentality,” Floro said Thursday from Laa an der Thaya, Austria, where the team has been based. “For us, they are two games that are very important.” Canada — 110th in the FIFA rankings — faces No. 73 Bulgaria on Friday in Ritzing then meets 99th-ranked Moldova in Mauer on Tuesday. The Canadians went a woeful 0-13 last year, and scored just one goal — by Marcus Haber — in a 2-1 loss to Japan. Their last victory came in October 2012, a 3-0 win in World Cup qualifying against a Cuban side that dressed just 11 players (several Cubans left the team before the game kicked off in Toronto). “Were longing for a win,” Atiba Hutchinson said. “Its been a while so I think were motivated enough to get that. We just have to go out and work as we always do and hopefully well be a bit more fortunate with getting that result, but well have that working spirit.” Floro summoned a mix of veterans such as Hutchinson and Julian de Guzman and promising young players including Caleb Clarke, Samuel Piette, Daniel Stanese and Cyle Larin for these friendlies. Eight of the Canadians have yet to make their national senior debut, as Floro focuses on developing younger players one year out from the next CONCACAF Gold Cup and the resumption of World Cup qualifying. “The objective is the samee for every camp: to prepare players on our system of play because we need to improve our level in attack and defence.dddddddddddd At the same time, we want to take the young players because the experienced players are good at teaching them how to work as an individual and in a collective,” Floro said. “For the young players, this is a very good experience because our experienced players are very good people and they are always focused on teaching the young players how to do things in a good way.” Floro is counting on players such as the 31-year-old Hutchinson, who plays professionally in Turkey, to help bring the younger ones along. “Were developing well and mixing some younger players is going to help us,” Hutchinson said. “Its going to take some time to jell a little bit more but I think were trying to go in the right direction.” On a team that sorely needs goal scoring, eyes will be on the six-foot-two Larin in these two friendlies. The 19-year-old from Brampton, Ont., earned conference rookie of the years honours after scoring a team-high 14 goals for the University of Connecticut. “We brought Larin into the Florida camp (in January) because we had a very good reference and we want to test him because hes a striker and we need a lot of players in this position,” Floro said. “In that camp, we realized he is a young player but with good experience playing as a striker. He has a good desire to learn a lot about that and for us he is a good player for the present and the future.” Canadas roster is comprised mostly of European-based players. Among the other veterans on the squad are Andre Hainault, David Edgar, Tosaint Ricketts and Simeon Jackson. cheap nfl jerseys ’ ’ ’ |

Darren Collison added 20 points and seven assists for the Clippers, who improved to 3-0 on their four-game homestand. J.J. Redick had 19 points in his first game since Nov. 29. The Clippers recorded their largest-ever victory over the Lakers. The Clippers previous biggest win over the Lakers was 31 points on Feb. 19, 1992. “Tonight we played excellent for 48 minutes,” Griffin said. “Having J.J. back was huge. He opens a lot of things up for us.” Kendall Marshall ended with 16 points and 10 assists for the Lakers, who have lost four in a row. Wesley Johnson and Robert Sacre each tallied 14 points. “We turned the ball over too much,” Lakers coach Mike DAntoni said. Holding a 22-21 lead with 4:11 left in the first quarter, the Clippers went on a 21-2 run to gain control. DeAndre Jordan scored the final six points of the surge to make it a 43-23 contest. Jodie Meeks made two free throws with 27.5 seconds remaining to cut the gap to 18. The Clippers, though, shot 70.8 percent from the field in the first stanza. The score was 70-52 at the half after each team scored 27 points in the second period. It got worse for the Lakers in the third quarter. The University of Colorado star point guard announced Thursday hes skipping his senior season and will declare for the NBA draft. Dinwiddie said at a news conference in Boulder, Colo., that despite this years deep pool of talent, “I just dont feel there are that many people in this draft that are better than me.” Dinwiddies junior season was cut short when he tore his left ACL Jan. 12 at Washington and needed reconstructive surgery. He said he expects to be back on the court by August. “I think Ive got first-round talent across the board,” he said. “Everybody of course is going to doubt my knee. (But, my) being able to go first week in August and being ready for the season, … youre going to get Spencer Dinwiddie, not Spencer Dinwiddie with a bad knee.” A Los Angeles native, Dinwiddie was averaging 14.7 points and nearly four assists when he got hurt. The Buffs were 14-2 with a signature win over Kansas and ranked 15th at the time. They finished 23-12 and lost to Pittsburgh in their NCAA tournament opener. Dinwiddie called it a bittersweet day, saying it was a difficult decision because he loves the program. Had he decided to return next season, the Buffaloes were expected to be a top-10 team nationally. “Weighing the chance to do something special here versus something that is more what I would like to do probably, it was really tough,” Dinwiddie said. He said he was swayed last weekend when his doctor in Houston compared his recovery from knee surgery to that of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who returned from a torn ACL to win NFL MVP honours two seasons ago. This is the third time in four years Colorado coach Tad Boyle has lost a star underclassman to the prospect of NBA riches. Alec Burks bolted after his sophomore season in 2011 and was chosen 12th overall by the Utah Jazz and Andre Roberson left last year and was selected 26th overall by Minnesota before bbeing traded to Oklahoma City.dddddddddddd “Well, it doesnt make it any easier,” Boyle said, but he drops their names on the recruiting trail. "You always have to use everything that happens in a positive light as best you can. Its hard as a coach when you look — I dont let myself think about it as a coach too often — but sometimes youre driving down the road and youre like, OK, if we had a healthy Spencer and Andre together this year with the rest of the squad that we got how special it could be. How good could we be with Spencer next year coming back? “Those are questions that kind of float into your mind, but theyve got to get out of your mind quickly. This program, we talk about it with our team a lot, its bigger than any one person, any one coach, any one player.” The Buffaloes have four other point guards on their roster for 2014-15: juniors Xavier Talton and Eli Stalzer, sophomore Jaron Hopkins and incoming freshman Dominique Collier, who was named 2014 “Mr. Colorado Basketball” after leading Denver East to the Class 5A state championship. Dinwiddie said the Buffs should still be good next season without him and hes seen Collier play and suggested he, too, has a bright future. Boyle said the way the Buffs bounced back from Dinwiddies injury and subsequent midseason slump to rally and make the NCAA tournament for the third straight season was a testament to the programs strength. “Like Spencer said, weve got good players in this program and were going to continue to recruit good players to this program,” Boyle said. "It certainly doesnt make it easier … but again, we try to build sustained success. At some point everythings going to come together and the stars are going to align and guys are going to be healthy and well hopefully have a couple of NBA players on the floor at the same time playing together at the peak of their careers. “When that happens, we can make the next jump and blow the doors off this place.” cheap nfl jerseys ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Jak postupovat / r, $12.25 million in 20 KEARNS, Utah — Canadas Marianne St. Gelais cruised to victory in the opening womens 500-metre race of the season at a short-track speedskating World Cup event Sunday. St. Gelais, from St-Felicien, Que., beat runner-up Italys Martina Valcepina and American Jessica Smith in the distance she is dominant in. St. Gelais won all five World Cup events in the 500 last season as well as the silver medal at the 2010 Olympics. Meanwhile, Charles Hamelin of Ste-Julie, Que., settled for silver in the mens 500 after being passed by Britains Jon Eley on the last lap. Hamelin said he lost his right edge when Germanys Robert Seifert fell in front of him. “I wasnt feeling good after that,” said Hamelin, who won gold in the mens 1,500 on Saturday. “I was just trying to hold myself onto the track and not fall. He passed me and I had no move to pass him back.” Hamelin was looking forward to the next World Cup short track races in Quebec next weekend. “Its going to be good for us to be back at home with our crowd,” Hamelin said. “It will pump us to win a few more medals.” In the relays, Canadas mens team of Charles Hamelin, Francois Hamelin, Yellowknifes Michael Gilday and Francois-Louis Tremblay of Alma, Que., beat Britain to win gold. The womens team of St. Gelais, Jessica Hewitt of Kamloops, B.C., Valerie Maltais of La Baie, Que., and Marie-Eve Drolet of Laterriere, Que settled for fourth. Katherine Reutter of the U.S. won her second 1,500 metres World Cup gold in two days, despite being able to train only since mid-September. “Most of my coaches are stunned that anything is working for me at the moment,” Reutter said after holding off South Koreas Lee Eun-byul and Chinas Li Jianrou on Sunday to win in 2 minutes, 24.005 seconds. “But whats really working well for me is that Im trying to change the way I prepare for races. I used to prepare by absolutely knowing what every other girl was going to do and what I was going to do. And thats extremely exhausting.” This weekend, coaches wanted the two-time Olympic medallist and defending 1,500 world champion simply to react and be a “mental” master. “It was half the stress and a lot less energy and I really like it,” said Reutter, who is doing well to move beyond back problems that cropped up last December. “That approach is going to get me on the top more consistently.” Fellow American J.R. Celski, meanwhile, ran into the same roadblock Sunday as he did Saturday — namely a pair of South Korean teammates. On Saturday, in his first World Cup race since taking more than a year off after the Vancouver Olympics, Celski was disqualified for impeding Noh Jinkyu in the mens 1,000. Sunday, he trailed Noh and South Korean Kwak Yoon-gy in the 1,500, and tried to pass on three consecutive laps but couldnt get through. Noh won in 2:14.238 and Kwak took silver, with Celski settling for the bronze. “They skated smart,” Celski said. “Its unfortunate we didnt clean up the way we wanted to at home, but it just makes us hungry for the next time.” He called the races “building blocks” as he learns what he has to do against each opponent. “They skated great today,” he said about the South Koreans. “I wont take anything away from them.” While St. Gelais made it look easy in the womens 500, Smith had to fight hard for her bronze. She advanced out of the quarter-finals by a skate then used a quick start in the semifinals to earn a spot in the final. “I was looking at the semis as my finals and I knew I had to nail my start,” Smith said. While she is the oldest member of the womens team at 28, the weekend races showed some of the rising stars. American John-Henry Krueger is just 16, and was competing in his first World Cup. He won the mens 500 C final, and had given the U.S. men the lead in the relay final only to fall after making the successful pass. “It happens to everybody,” Celski said about his younger teammate. “But Im really proud of John-Henry. The 19-year-old Green, from Boca Raton, had a 5-under 67 on LPGA Internationals Hills Course. She has gone 57 holes without a bogey since dropping a stroke on her 15th hole Wednesday in an opening 62. “I was telling my dad after I shot 10 under on the first day that I wanted to get to 20 under before Sunday because then Ill have a big cushion,” Green said. “Today, when I got to 25 under I was like, Shoot, now I want to get to 30 under. Im starting to get a little greedy. But I like having such a cushion, which makes me focus on my game and not so much of the leaderboard.” She was 29th on the Symetra Tour money list this year. South Koreas Mi Rim Lee was second after a 69, also on the Hills Course. She had a course-record 61 on Friday on the Jones Course. The top 20 after the final round Sunday will earn Category 12 status, Nos. 21-45 and ties will receive membership in Category 17, and the other players who made the 72-hole cut will get Symetra Tour status. Pavano kept up his recent surge with an efficient six-hitter for the Twins in a 4-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night. HUMBLE, Texas — Phil Mickelson did more than prove to just himself that hes ready for next weeks Masters on Thursday. The five-time major winner showed to everyone that hes fully recovered from last weeks muscle pull and likely to be a factor in this weeks Houston Open as well. Without so much as a practice round this week at the 7,441-yard Golf Club of Houston, Mickelson opened with a 4-under par 68 and was among the leaders following Thursdays opening round. The bogey-free performance was a far cry from last week when Mickelson was forced to withdraw during the third round in San Antonio after pulling a muscle in his right side “Im surprised because I was worried about the Masters,” Mickelson said. “I was certainly worried about Houston, but it healed a lot quicker. I felt great today; didnt feel any pain or discomfort and didnt even think about it.” Mickelson is three shots back of first-round co-leaders Bill Haas and Charley Hoffman, both who finished at 7 under. Hass had five birdies on his back nine, while Hoffman needed just 27 putts to earn a share of the lead. Keegan Bradley and Matt Kuchar lead a group of five golfers at 6 under. J.B. Holmes, Erik Compton and Jim Renner are also at 6 under, with 10 golfers are at 5 under. Of the 144 players in the field, 113 finished at even par or under on an overcast and occasionally misty day. “The greens are absolutely perfect,” Haas said. “… I think the scores are reflective on that. They were a little slower, but part of that, too, is the weather. It was like a little dewy mist out there all day, which played a part in the speed of the greens.” Mickelson and Bradley were part of a threesome with Webb Simpson, who also finished 4 under. All three players in the group navigated the course without a bogey in their morning rounds. Former world No. 1 Rory McIlroy, playing in the afternoon and one of the five top-10 players in the world in the tournament, finished withh a 2-under 70.dddddddddddd While Haas and Hoffman shared the lead after Thursdays play, it was Mickelson — who was forced to withdraw during last weeks third round in San Antonio after pulling a muscle in his right side — who was the centre of attention leading into next week at Augusta National. Mickelson has won the Masters three times, the latest coming in 2010, but his status was in doubt following last weeks injury. The left-hander, however, underwent treatment in the days following his departure from San Antonio — along with fitting in two days of light practice at Augusta National — and appeared in top ball-striking form on Thursday. “One of the things I really worked on hard today was staying focused on each shot,” Mickelson said. “… I needed to play here this week and really challenge myself in that regard to give myself the best chance for next week.” Opening on the back nine at the former Redstone Golf Club, which was renamed the Gold Club of Houston following an ownership change, Mickelson was bogey free despite needing 31 putts. He made the turn at 2 under following a 16-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th, and he birdied both of the par 5s on his back nine to put himself squarely in contention. Mickelson won the Houston Open in 2011, and the courses Masters-like setup — including slick greens and tight rough — is a key reason hes returned every year since. “He was striking it, he was hitting it long and great,” Bradley said of Mickelson. “… He seems like it was feeling a lot better today than it was in San Antonio.” Kuchar, who finished tied for fourth at last weeks Texas Open, had three straight birdies in the middle of his round on Thursday — highlighted by a 47-foot birdie putt on the 445-yard par-4 second hole. McIlroy, one of five of the top 10 players in the world in the field, was as low as 3 under before a pair of bogeys on the back nine. World No. 10 Dustin Johnson withdrew following an opening 8-over par 80. cheap nfl jerseys ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Jak postupovat / and said Shakur was expecte NEW YORK — Plagued by foul trouble in the first three quarters, Paul Pierce came up big down the stretch for the Brooklyn Nets. Deron Williams and Shaun Livingston each scored 18 points and an ailing Pierce hit a key late 3-pointer to lead the Brooklyn Nets to a 101-97 victory over the Atlantic Division-leading Toronto Raptors on Monday night. Pierce scored 10 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter and Joe Johnson added 14 for the Nets, who won their season-high eighth straight at home. Brooklyn moved three games behind Toronto in the Atlantic. The 35-year-old, who had been battling through a “stinger” in his right shoulder felt fine during the morning after receiving treatment and admitted that he wasnt expecting to play but he couldnt pass up on the opportunity Brooklyn had to close the gap in the division standings. “I knew the implications of this game. Maybe if it was a different type of game, (I sit out),” Pierce said. “But this was one of our biggest games of the year. Division rival, a lot on the line tonight, so you can always pen me in with those type of games.” Pierce was all over the floor in the final 12 minutes of the game, hitting a pair of shots beyond the arc, making four free throws and stealing the ball twice. The victory was critical for the Nets, who lost to Toronto last time they played, on Jan. 27, after Williams turned the ball over on an inbounds play with 12 seconds left and Patrick Patterson hit the eventual game-winner with 6 seconds left on the clock. “This was a big game. It give us the split,” Williams said. “We didnt want them to get three up on us in case of tiebreakers. We gained a full game on them. That much closer to catching them.” The Nets next big test comes on the road as they go for a season-series sweep over the two-time defending world champion Miami Heat on Wednesday night. Kyle Lowry scored 21 points to lead Toronto, which had won three straight and nine of its previous 11. Tyler Hansbrough and Amir Johnson added 16 points each. The Nets played their sixth straight game without Kevin Garnett, who was in the starting lineup but was scratched minutes before tip-off. Nets coach Jason Kidd said the 38-year-old veteran, who has been bother by back spasms, “tightened up, so we pulled the plug on him”. Brooklyn also missed Andrei Kirilenko, who was out because of a sprained right ankle. The Nets trailed 94-92 after Lowry split the defence in the lane for a lay-up with 2:15 left. Brooklyn then answered with five straight points as Andray Blatches reverse lay-up tied the score at 94 and Pierce followed with his 3 with 1:14 left despite Lowrys attempt to block the shot. Brooklyns small lineup gave the Raptors trouble. “Their lineup is funky, man. When you have Paul Pierce at the 4, it is tough to guard,” Lowry said. “Amir is an unbelievable defender but he is also our help guy and sometimes it is tough for him to get back out. I mean, Paul made a 3 over me and I was literally on him, in which I could smack him in the face.” DeMar DeRozan then beat Livingston to the basket but was fouled and made two free throws to pull to 97-96 with 1:03 to go. On Brooklyns next possession, Williams drove to the lane but his shot was blocked by Johnson, setting the stage for a go-ahead or game-tying shot. However, Terrence Ross lost control of the ball and Pierce came up with the steal. Livingston hit two free throws to extend the Nets lead to 99-96 with 22.8 seconds left. Lowry had a chance to tie with a 3 but missed. Blatche was then fouled with 6.5 seconds left and was only able to hit the second free throws to push the lead to four points. As the Raptors proceeded to move the ball up the court, Lowry was fouled. He hit the first shot to make it 100-97 with 5.2 left. He purposely missed the second one but was called for a lane violation. Pierce, who exited Sunday nights game in the first quarter with 10:45 left due to a sore right shoulder, then hit two free throws to seal the win and even the season series between both teams at two games apiece. The matchup between Toronto and Brooklyn, who are in third and sixth place, respectively, in the Eastern Conference, had a playoff atmosphere to it with the home crowd at the Barclays Center on its feet once Pierce hit that 3-pointer. In the long run, it would definitely help Raptors coach Dwane Caseys inexperienced post-season squad. “Again, it was playoff type of basketball with physicality. Ive said it forever that we have to get ready to play that style of basketball”, he said. “We had three big time turnovers because they got into us at the end of the game.” Brooklyn trailed 30-19 at the end of the opening period but had a strong second quarter, pulling to 51-50 at the half. Down 60-59 after a tip-in shot by Jonas Valaciunas in the third quarter, Johnson and Williams each hit two 3-pointers to spark Brooklyn on a 14-0 run, leading 73-60 with 4:28 left. But the Raptors answered with an 11-0 run over the next 3 minutes, capped by two free throws from Hansbrough. NOTES: Kidd said the Nets will re-evaluate Garnett on Tuesday. Rookie Mason Plumlee started in Garnetts place and had six points and eight rebounds in 26 minutes. Theyre 5-1 in Garnetts absence. . Téma: Jak postupovat / the all-star break since NEW YORK — Despite seven months of international outcry, Russias law restricting gay-rights activity remains in place. Yet the eclectic protest campaign has heartened activists in Russia and caught the attention of its targets — including organizers and sponsors of the Sochi Olympics that open on Feb. 7. Over the past two weeks, two major sponsors, Coca-Cola and McDonalds, have seen some of their Sochi-related social media campaigns commandeered by gay-rights supporters who want the companies to condemn the law. Several activists plan to travel to Sochi, hoping to team up with sympathetic athletes to protest the law while in the Olympic spotlight. And on Friday, a coalition of 40 human-rights and gay-rights groups from the U.S., Western Europe and Russia — including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the Human Rights Campaign — released an open letter to the 10 biggest Olympic sponsors, urging them to denounce the law and run ads promoting equality for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people. “LGBT people must not be targeted with violence or deprived of their ability to advocate for their own equality,” the letter said. “As all eyes turn toward Sochi, we ask you to stand with us.” The law, signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in July, bans pro-gay “propaganda” that could be accessible to minors — a measure viewed by activists as forbidding almost any public expression of gay-rights sentiment. The law cleared parliament virtually unopposed and has extensive public support in Russia. Since July, when they launched a boycott of Russian vodka, activists have pressed the International Olympic Committee and Olympic sponsors to call for the laws repeal. Instead, the IOC and top sponsors have expressed general opposition to discrimination and pledged to ensure that athletes, spectators and others gathering for the Games would not be affected by the law. Putin has given similar assurances in regard to Sochi, but remains committed to the laws broader purposes. IOC President Thomas Bach has warned Olympic athletes that they are barred from political gestures while on medal podiums or in other official venues, but says they are free to make political statements at news conferences. One Olympian likely to speak out is gay Australian snowboarder Belle Brockhoff, who told Australias Courier-Mail newspaper that she plans to lambaste Putin. “After I compete, Im willing to rip on his ass,” she told the newspaper. “Im not happy and theres a bunch of other Olympians who are not happy either.” Brockhoff is one of several Olympians promising to display the logo P6 — a reference to Principle Six of the Olympic Charter that says any form of discrimination “is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement.” Hudson Taylor of Athlete Ally, an organizer of the P6 campaign, is among the activists going to Sochi. He hopes that some athletes, even if wary of wearing P6 symbols, will promote them via social media. Also heading to Sochi is Shawn Gaylord, advocacy counsel for Human Rights First. “We wont be looking to violate the law,” he said. “But we think its important that human rights not get lost in the mix.” President Barack Obama, who has criticized the Russian law, is skipping the Olympics and named a U.S. delegation that includes tennis great Billie Jean King and two other openly gay athletes. “The only way you break down barriers is by being there and meeting people and getting these issues out on the table — doing it in an appropriate and diplomatic way,” King told The Associated Press. In the U.S., recent protest initiatives have focused on Sochi sponsors, notably Coca-Cola and McDonalds. In McDonalds case, the companys #CheersToSochi Twitter hashtag has been used by activists in tweets condemning the Russian law and assailing McDonalds for not speaking out forcibly against it. Similarly, activists made use of an online “Id like to share a Coke with…” promotion to circulate images of Coke cans with labels such as “Gaybashers” and “Haters.” The gay-rights group Queer Nation posted a video online interspersing images of embattled Russian gay-rights demonstrators into Cokes 1970s TV ad featuring the song, “Id Like to Teach the World to Sing.” Coke then posted a clip of the original ad on its Facebook page, drawing a flood of negative comments from gay-rights supporters. Coke has responded with declarations of support for diversity and inclusiveness, which are themes of Cokes new Super Bowl advertising. A Coca-Cola spokeswoman, Ann Moore, said the company remained committed to the Olympics despite criticism from gay-rights activists. “We share these groups belief in human rights, equality, diversity and dignity for all, and we respect their right to protest peacefully,” Moore said in an email. “We firmly believe, however, that supporting the Olympics focuses the world on the ideals that everyone strives for during the Games — excellence, friendship and respect.” Becca Hary, a McDonalds spokeswoman, made similar points. “Social media is all about conversation. Understandably, the LGBT community is focusing its conversation on the Russian legislation,” she said in an email. “McDonalds is proud to be a top sponsor of the Olympics; our sponsorship dollars literally help the men and women who are working to achieve their Olympic dreams.” Hary and Moore said their companies were conferring with the IOC about human rights. “We expect our ongoing engagement to include discussions on long-term, sustainable means for addressing human rights in the context of the Olympic Games,” Moore wrote. Minky Worden, director of global initiatives at Human Rights Watch, predicted that sponsors would henceforth insist that the IOC make human rights a more important factor in selection of host cities. “There will be a reckoning after the Games,” Worden said. “Olympic sponsorship is supposed to be the goose that lays the golden eggs, but this goose is not laying golden eggs. Its laying stinky, rotten eggs.” The international gay-rights group All Out plans to target Olympic sponsors in demonstrations next Wednesday in several cities, including New York, London, Rio de Janeiro and St. Petersburg, Russia. Even if the Russian law endures, All Out executive director Andrew Banks considers the overall protest campaign a success. “Weve been able to elevate the voices and stories of Russian LGBT people … and show there are people all over the world willing to stand behind them,” he said. While expressing appreciation for the allies abroad, prominent Russian activist Anastasia Smirnova said she feared that “dangerous self-censorship” might deter some Olympians in Sochi from taking stands against the law. In an email Friday, she also worried about a possible backlash against Russian gays once the Olympic spotlight fades. . Cooke received a seven-game ban for kneeing Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie in Game 3 of the opening round, and he didnt take long to make his presence felt, helping give Minnesota an early lead. The antagonizing forward stole the puck from Chicago defenseman Michal Rozsival on the forecheck and dished to Justin Fontaine, who went top shelf to beat Crawford from the right circle 7:24 into the game. It was the first career playoff goal for Fontaine. “Its fun to contribute and its fun to chip in. Its just fun to be back out there again,” Cooke said.dddddddddddd"I should have fresh legs. Ive got to go out there and lead the way and hopefully my energy is contagious." In addition to the assist, Cooke also registered two shots on goal and delivered five hits in nearly 16 minutes of ice time. Ilya Bryzgalov made 18 saves to help the Wild even the series. Patrick Sharp and Michal Handzus each had goals for Chicago, while Corey Crawford stopped 27 shots in the setback. “They worked for everything they got and we got to do the same,” said Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews. While Cooke returned from a suspension to make in impact in Game 4, the Blackhawks lost forward Brandon Bollig for two games due to a boarding incident in Fridays contest. The NHL handed Bollig a two-game suspension for his hit from behind on Minnesota defenseman Keith Ballard late in the second period. Ballard has endured a history of concussions, the latest of which cost him seven games early in the regular season. He had returned to the lineup in Game 3 after missing the final 14 games of the regular season and nine postseason tilts with a pulled groin muscle. Both Ballard and forward Matt Moulson, who sat out Game 4 due to a lower-body injury, did not make the trip to Chicago for tonights game. In addition to Bollig, Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw missed a third straight game with a lower-body injury he suffered in the series opener and expects to sit out again on Sunday. Poulin wa SAO PAULO – Paolo Lorenzi of Italy reached his first ATP semifinal by upsetting fourth-seeded Juan Monaco of Argentina 7-6 (6), 6-7 (4), 6-4 at the Brazil Open on Friday. The 114th-ranked Lorenzi broke Monacos serve to go up 4-3 in the decisive set and held on to close the match in 2 hours, 34 minutes at the Ibirapuera Arena. The 32-year-old Italian squandered a match point before losing the second set, but was in control in the third to pick up the win in the ATP 250 tournament in South Americas biggest city. Lorenzi, who had 12 aces, made it to the semis for the first time after five quarterfinal losses in his career. “Im very happy to finally breakthrough to the semifinals,” Lorenzi said. “Ive had a lot of opportunities before but was never able to come up with the victory at this stage. For sure this is one of my greatest weeks on the tour.” The 43rd-ranked Monaco, a former top 10 in the world, was trying to win his 200th clay-court match. He is the fifth-greatest winner in the surface, behind Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Tommy Robredo and Nicolas Almagro. Monaco had a set point in the first set but couldnt capitalize on it. “It was a very close match, he had his chances in the first set and I had mine in the second, it was very difficult,” Lorenzi said. The Italian will play either top-seeded Tommy Haas of Germany or Horacio Zeballos of Argentina, who play their quarterfinal match later Friday. In the other quarterfinal Friday, Federico Delbonis of Argentina easily beat Alberto Montanes of Spain 6-4, 6-3 in just over an hour. He will play either home-crowd favourite Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil or Martin Klizan of Slovakia. The 61st-ranked Delbonis had upset three-time Brazil Open champion Almagro in the second round. Defending champion Rafael Nadal is not playing at the clay-court tournament this year. Téma: Jak postupovat / d to get a sack afte CLEVELAND — A season that looked like a lost cause two weeks ago has suddenly turned around for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kyrie Irving scored 22 points and the Cavaliers won their sixth straight game, 101-93 over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. The winning streak has put Cleveland within three games of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Considering where they were on Feb. 5 when they hit rock bottom with an embarrassing loss to an injury-decimated Los Angeles Lakers team that finished the game with five players, the Cavaliers have made a big leap forward in a short period of time. Irving, chosen MVP of the NBA All-Star game Sunday, paced a balanced offence that extended the Cavaliers longest winning streak since they won eight in a row in March 2010. That was LeBron James final season in Cleveland. “Its been nothing specific,” Irving said of the resurgence. “Were coming together as a team. Were enjoying the game out there, a lot more smiles and a higher level of competitiveness. Were having fun, but were also competing.” General manager Chris Grant was fired the day after the loss to the Lakers. It appears the Cavaliers learned some lessons from the low point of the season. Cleveland won its last four games before the All-Star break and routed Philadelphia on Tuesday. “We know what it feels like to be on both sides, whether down or up,” Irving said. Cleveland played without guard Dion Waiters (hyperextended left knee) and centre Anderson Varejao (sore back). Luol Deng scored 17 points, while Tyler Zeller and Tristan Thompson each added 16 for the Cavaliers, whose 21-point lead was cut to two late in the game. Arron Afflalo led Orlando with 23 points. The Magic have lost 14 consecutive road games and are an NBA-worst 3-25 away from home. Orlando coach Jacque Vaughn is at a loss to explain his teams road woes. “I have no secret formula,” he said. “They can see how the second half transpired — thats the secret. Whether its back-to-back games or youre playing four in five nights, playing like that with mental toughness is the only way to get it done.” The Cavaliers built an 18-point lead in the first quarter and were ahead by double figures until Orlando rallied in the third. The Magic outscored the Cavs 32-17 in the period and cut it to 72-70 in the early seconds of the fourth. Cleveland went up 89-81 but Orlando scored six straight points to cut the margin to two again. Zellers three-point play, two free throws by Irving and Dengs 3-pointer pushed the lead to 97-89 with 35 seconds remaining. Orlando forward Glen Davis, the subject of trade talk leading up to Thursdays deadline, left early in the first quarter with a sore right Achilles and didnt return. The Cavaliers led 26-11 after one. Orlando missed its first nine shots and fell behind 15-2. The Magic were 3 of 21 from the field in the quarter. Irving, who had 31 points and 14 assists in the All-Star game, ended the first half with a 3-pointer from a couple of steps behind the line that gave Cleveland a 55-36 lead. The Cavaliers scored the first basket in the second half, but the Magic cut the lead to 10 midway through the third, and Nikola Vucevics two free throws made it 72-68 going into the fourth. Victor Oladipos basket to open the period cut the lead to two points. Thompson had 14 rebounds for Cleveland. Vucevic scored 20 points for the Magic, and Tobias Harris added 19. Cleveland has won all three matchups with Orlando this season. Both teams have been linked to trade talks. Reports have indicated the Cavaliers have told teams Deng is available. The veteran moved into the starting small forward spot after being acquired from Chicago on Jan. 7, but can become a free agent after the season. “In 10 years, my name has come up a lot. I never fell into rumours or what goes around,” Deng said. “I just have to have the mindset that Im here, then at the end of the day whatever happens, I have to deal with that situation.” In addition to Davis, its been reported that the Magic would also be open to dealing Afflalo and Jameer Nelson. Waiters was injured against Philadelphia and had an MRI on Wednesday. Waiters said on his Twitter account that the knee is sore, but nothing is torn. Cavaliers guard C.J. Miles sprained his left ankle while driving to the basket in the fourth quarter. He hit the floor hard and was down for several moments. Miles remained in the game to hit the two free throws before limping to the locker room. NOTES: While the Cavaliers are listing Varejao as being out with a back injury, hes been dealing with an assortment of ailments, including a sore knee. The team hopes some time off will help his injuries heal up. … Orlandos last road win came on Dec. 16, an 83-82 victory over Chicago. Deng led the Bulls with 26 points in that game. … The Magics 11 points in the first quarter were a season low for any period. … The Magic lost 87-81 in overtime at Cleveland on Jan. 2 as Varejao tied the Cavaliers record with 25 rebounds. A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press the Steelers will part ways with the former Pro Bowler, a move that hardly serves as a surprise after fifth-year linebacker Jason Worilds agreed to accept a “transition player” tag last week. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the move is not yet official. The 29-year-old Woodley will likely be designated a post-June 1 salary cap cut, but is free to sign with another team when the new league year begins Tuesday afternoon. By postponing the move until after June 1, the Steelers would free up about $8 million in salary cap space in 2014. The money saved will likely go toward signing the teams selections in the NFL Draft in May. Woodley will, however, count $8.5 million against the teams cap number in 2015. Woodley signed a six-year, $61.5 million contract in 2011, but has struggled to remain healthy. He missed at least three games in each of the last three seasons as hamstring and other lower body issues kept him sidelined for long stretches. The turning point came in a 25-17 win over New England on Oct. 30, 2011. Woodley sacked Tom Brady twice in that game but also left with a strained hamstring. He had nine sacks at the time of the injury, played in two games the rest of the way and could never seem to rediscover the productivity that made Woodley and James Harrison one of the most feared outside linebacker combinations in the league.dddddddddddd The Steelers released Harrison last March and selected Jarvis Jones in the first round of the 2013 draft, making him the heir apparent to Harrison. Jones finished with just one sack but appeared to get better as the season progressed. Woodley did not. He failed to get a sack after Oct. 20 and ended the season on injured reserve. While Woodley sat with calf problems, Worilds thrived. He led Pittsburgh with eight sacks despite playing across from a rookie still adjusting to the league. The decision to release Woodley is the latest in a busy week for the Steelers, who have been forced to become aggressive to get under the salary cap by Tuesday. Safety Troy Polamalu and tight end Heath Miller signed more cap-friendly contracts last week, while Pittsburgh also released offensive tackle Levi Brown, cornerback Curtis Brown and linebacker Larry Foote. The Steelers agreed to terms with safety Will Allen. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported wide receiver Antonio Brown restructured his contract. The Steelers also restructured CB Ike Taylors contract to save cap room. All the movement, however, is unlikely to make the typically conservative Steelers major players when free agency begins. Téma: Jak postupovat / ng. NOTES: Orioles 3B PRETORIA, South Africa — Oscar Pistorius defence team called an anesthetist to testify at the double-amputee runners murder trial Thursday in an attempt to counter prosecution claims that Pistorius is lying about the timeline of events on the night he killed girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Prof. Aina Christina Lundgren was being questioned on her expertise regarding how long it takes a person to digest food after eating. The testimony relates to an autopsy report on Steenkamps body that said she still had food in her stomach after she was killed by Pistorius, leading prosecutors to challenge his story that the couple last ate around eight hours before he shot her through a toilet door. An expert testifying for the prosecution said a persons stomach is normally empty of food six hours after eating and Steenkamp ate much later on the night of the killing and not in line with Pistorius story. Prosecutors say thats because the couple were up arguing late into the night before Pistorius shot Steenkamp multiple times in the midst of a heated fight through a toilet stall door in his bathroom. Pistorius says he mistook her for an intruder hiding behind the closed toilet stall door. He testified the couple had dinner at around 7 p.m. on the night she was killed, and they were in bed around 10 p.m. Pistorius shot Steenkamp after 3 a.m. on Feb. 14, 2013. Lundgren, who described herself as a specialist anesthetist, testified that there are a number of factors that could have delayed the digestion process in Steenkamp to explain the food found in her stomach, including that she was a pre-menopausal woman and had been sleeping. Lundgren was presented by the defence to try and undermine the testimony of pathologist Prof. Gert Saayman, who said it was his opinion that Steenkamp ate much later than Pistorius says, possibly even at around 1 a.m. when the runner claims they were in bed. Lundgren said it was difficult to be exact about the rate of digestion and it was “speculative to attempt to estimate when she had last eaten.” Chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel cross-examined Lundgren and pointed to Saaymans findings that he could even identify vegetable and cheese matter in Steenkamps stomach. “Would you not have expected the digestive process to have caused the contents to be unrecognizable after eight hours?” Nel asked Lundgren. “I cant comment,” she replied. “But he can, and he did,” Nel said of Saaymans report. The state pathologist was present in the courtroom and Nel asserted that his evidence was “more probable.” Replying to Nels questions, Lundgren said she was a clinician and unwilling to criticize Saayman, a pathologist. However, later on re-examination by chief defence lawyer Barry Roux, she said she did not agree with Saaymans assertion that Steenkamp ate at 1 a.m. or after. Pistorius lawyers also said in a statement Thursday that an offer to buy the villa where the Olympian killed Steenkamp had been accepted and the sale of the house was being processed. Pistorius is selling his home in the gated community in the South African capital Pretoria to help with his legal bills. His trial is now into its seventh week of testimony. Lawyer Brian Webber said they would not identify who was buying the house or the amount it was being sold for until the sale was finalized. Pistorius last year valued the house at about $450,000. Davis homered and had four RBIs, Jones had three hits and scored three runs and the Orioles beat Cleveland 8-4 Friday night to snap the Indians four-game winning streak. Cruz hit his 15th homer, collected his team-high 43rd RBI and upped his batting average to .286. “I think this is really the first time weve all been swinging the bat well collectively,” Davis said of himself, Cruz and Jones. “Nelsons been hot all year. Jonesy is really starting to come on and obviously me coming off the (oblique) injury, Ive started to swing the bat. Its big for us, especially in the middle of the lineup.” Davis hit a two-run double in the third inning and put Baltimore up 5-4 in the fifth with his seventh home run, the fourth in four games. He led the majors with 53 homers last year, and while hes not on that kind of pace, Davis appears to be heating up. “I think Im just putting together better at-bats,” he said. Nick Markakis had four hits for the Orioles, who have 38 runs and 62 hits in their last five games. Bud Norris (3-4) gave up four runs, six hits and three walks in six innings to earn his first win in four starts since May 1. It wasnt his finest effort, but the run support certainly helped. “These guys can swing,” Norris said. “Theyre professional hitters. Theyve been doing it for a long time.” Making his second major league appearance, Clevelands T.J. House (0-1) allowed five runs and 11 hits in six innings. He was first left-hander to make his initial big league start with the Indians since David Huff on May 17, 2009. House had the misfortune of going against a Baltimore team that now has scored at least six runs in five straight games, one short of the club record. “It was fun,” House said. “Obviously the results didnt end the way I wanted them to, but I had a good time out there and next time I get the chance to do it I hope to be able to perform a little better.” Jason Giambi hit a three-run homer for Cleveland, the 439th of his career, breaking a tie with Andree Dawson for 41st place on the all-time HR list.dddddddddddd Prior to connecting, the 43-year-old Giambi was 1 for 15 with no homers and no RBIs this year. The drive gave Cleveland a 4-3 lead. “Ive been taking some good at-bats,” Giambi said. “I just wanted to try to put a ball in play there to get us a run. We had a runner on third, less than two outs, and just kind of keep the train moving. I just kind of got it up in the air a little bit and it went out of the ballpark.” Cruz put Baltimore up 1-0 with a shot to right-centre in the second inning, and Davis doubled to right to make it 3-0 in the third. Cleveland responded with a four-run fourth. After Lonnie Chisenhall doubled in a run, Carlos Santana walked and Giambi followed with an opposite-field drive into the left-field seats. “At the time it was huge,” Indians manager Terry Francona said. “It got us right back in the ballgame, put us ahead. Thats when youre starting to feel like OK, here we go, well find a way to win this one, too.” But Davis followed an infield hit by Jones with a shot to right field in the fifth to put Baltimore ahead to stay. The Orioles added three unearned runs in the seventh off Mark Lowe, whose throwing error on a potential double-play ball allowed a run to score and preceded an RBI groundout by J.J. Hardy and a run-scoring double by Delmon Young. NOTES: Orioles 3B Manny Machado was given the day off after leaving in the 12th inning Thursday night with a sore right groin.
