Téma: Nové video - leden 2010 / Cleveland Browns. Oakland The St. Louis Blues had 111 points in the 2013-2014 season, the second-most in franchise history and most since 1999-2000, yet a first-round playoff elimination leaves obvious room for improvement. Off-Season Game Plan examines a team that is knocking on the door with the top contenders in the Western Conference, but needs something to take the next step forward. A Top-10 puck possession team, the Blues were very good on special teams too (eighth in power play percentage, second in penalty killing percentage), so they didnt have glaring weaknesses going into their first-round series with Chicago. If there was one area of concern, it might have been goaltending, as the Blues finished the year with a .913 save percentage, tied for 13th. They traded for Ryan Miller, in the hopes that he would be the answer, but Miller posted a .901 save percentage in 25 (regular season plus playoff) games with the Blues, which didnt alleviate goaltending concerns and prompted the Blues to re-sign Brian Elliott and mark Jake Allen for promotion. Going with inexpensive goaltending does open up the possibility that the Blues can more readily upgrade their lineup, perhaps with an improvement in the second-line centre spot. While the Blues were tied for sixth in the league with 2.92 goals per game, there is still room to elevate their skill level if they are going to compete with the best. Its not as though the Blues are incapable of competing with their current roster — they were challenging for first place overall before losing the last six games of the regular season — but its difficult to justify making no improvements to a team that has made it out of the first round once since 2002. The TSN.ca Rating is an efficiency rating based on per-game statistics including goals and assists — weighted for strength (ie. power play, even, shorthanded) — Corsi, adjusted for zone starts, quality of competition and quality of teammates, hits, blocked shots, penalty differential and faceoffs. Generally, a replacement-level player is around a 60, a top six forward and top four defenceman will be around 70, stars will be over 80 and MVP candidates could go over 90. Sidney Crosby finished at the top of the 2013-2014 regular season ratings at 87.12. Salary cap information all comes from the indispensable www.capgeek.com. Hes due for some shooting percentage regression, but Steen is also one of 18 players to put up at least 3.0 shots per game in each of the past four seasons. Hard-nosed centre David Backes rebounded from a down season in 2012-2013 with a career-best 0.77 points per game last season, and Backes and Steen were part of an exclusive group to play against high calibre of competition, start more shifts in the defensive zone and finish with better than plus-10 shot attempts per 60 minutes of 5-on-5 play. Hes ever-so-slightly below the best two-way centres in the game because hes good, not great, offensively. T.J. Oshie gained lots of fame for his shootout exploits against Russia in the Olympics, but he had a breakthrough NHL season too, staying healthy enough to set career-highs in goals (21), assists (39) and points (60) while putting up strong possession stats while spending most of his time alongside Backes and Steen. If the Blues have a breakout offensive star in-house, it could be Vladimir Tarasenko, the sturdy winger who has been productive enough, with 62 points in 102 games through his first two seasons, but hes in elite company when it comes to puck possession over that time, with the Blues getting 58.0% of the 5-on-5 shot attempts with Tarasenko on the ice over the last two years. An agitator who is fed defensive zone starts, Maxim Lapierre consistently gets crushed in terms of puck possession. He is one of 13 forwards to have at least 20 goals and 250 penalty minutes over the past three seasons. While his first season in St. Louis wasnt very productive, Magnus Paajarvi played a career-low 10:15 per game and his possession stats were still good enough to believe that the 23-year-old can make it work in a top-nine role. Theres no doubting Ryan Reaves toughness. Hes dropped the gloves 38 times in 194 games over the past four seasons, and while he doesnt always get killed in puck possession, he did last season. Hes a marginal fourth-liner, which makes it a little difficult to justify a four-year contract, so thats a strong commitment from the team. 30-year-old Chris Porter is forever battling to hold a spot in the Blues lineup, playing 143 games over the past four seasons, and he may well be up and down again next season, but hes on a one-way contract, so Porter has a chance to earn regular fourth-line work. While some players endure a sophomore slump, Jaden Schwartz made a quantum leap forward, jumping from 13 points in 45 games as a rookie to 56 points in 80 games last season, putting up stellar possession numbers along the way. His coach compares him to Zach Parise, which is high praise, and reason to think that the Blues would be inclined to sign Schwartz to a long-term contract. Though he has earned his keep as a checking centre, Vladimir Sobotka was given more offensive opportunities last season and came up with a career-high 33 points in 61 games, while playing a career-high 16:45 per game. He also had excellent possession stats. Patrik Berglunds production see-saw was on the down portion last year, which should be reason for optimism next sason, yet he had strong possession numbers last season too. Hes big and skilled, yet hasnt scored more than 40 points in any of the past three years and hes capable of meeting that threshold at the very least. The Blues got a jump on next season by inking Joakim Lindstrom, a 30-year-old forward who had five points in 16 games with Colorado in 2011-2012, but has 137 points in 129 Swedish Hockey League games since. It wouldnt be fair to place high expectations on Lindstrom, but if he improves the forward depth, thats a start. For a team that didnt score enough, the Blues most likely target this summer should be a way to improve their attack. Whether thats a free agent signing like Thomas Vanek or trading for a high-priced centre like Jason Spezza or Eric Staal, its a need that needs to be addressed. The 24-year-old is goign to be in the Norris Trophy discussion for years to come. He may be overshadowed, somewhat, by Pietrangelo, but Kevin Shattenkirk is a terrific puck-moving defenceman, who also has great possession numbers and, over the past three years, his 111 points is tied for 12th among defencemen. After some underwhelming years in Calgary, Jay Bouwmeester had 37 points for the Blues last season, his most 2008-2009 when he was playing in Florida. As always, he played against the oppositions best forwards and, playing for a strong Blues team, actually had positive possession stats too. An easier workload, while playing a career-low 17:56 per game, helped Barret Jackman to a more effective campaign in 2013-2014. The 33-year-old adds toughness in a mind-the-store defensive role. The 18th overall pick in 2007, Ian Cole hasnt been able to hold down a regular role with the Blues. Maybe he fits in the top six with another club, but this isnt an easy lineup for Cole to crack. A rugged defensive defenceman, Roman Polak has limited puck skills and that has resulted in mediocre possession stats that, in relative terms, are notably worse than his teammates. There does seem to be some recognition of the limits to Polaks game, however, as his ice time per game has decreased every season since 2008-2009, going down to 17:20 per game last season. Ankle and hand injuries kept Jordan Leopold out of the lineup for much of the 2013-2014 season, and he didnt play much when he was healthy — a career-low 15:36 per game. The Blues are Leopolds sixth NHL team and the veteran may want to consider a seventh unless St. Louis is prepared to play him more. For the first three years of his career, Elliott struggled, but hes been much better — which facing a lesser workload — in the past three seasons. Even so, is he good enough to anchor a team with Stanley Cup aspirations? A second-round pick in 2008, Jake Allen has been groomed plenty for an NHL job, spending four seasons in the AHL, with a 15-game stint in St. Louis in 2012-2013. He has a .917 save percentage in 172 AHL games, including .928 in 52 games last season, so the 23-year-old is ready for his chance to play in the NHL regularly. Top Prospects Player Pos. Téma: Nové video - leden 2010 / ee regular season c NEW YORK — NBA owners discussed Donald Sterlings CNN interview and the plans to terminate his ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday in the third meeting of the advisory/finance committee. A day after Commissioner Adam Silver repeated his desire to force Sterling to sell quickly, the committee met via conference call. League spokesman Mike Bass said owners reviewed the status of the charge for termination of the Clippers ownership. Silver or an owner has to formally charge Sterling in writing with violating Article 13 of the NBAs constitution. A hearing would then be held and require a three-fourths vote of the board of governors to force Sterling to sell the team he has owned since 1981. Sterling criticized Magic Johnson in the interview that aired Monday, his first public comments since Silver banned him for life and fined him $2.5 million for making racist comments. Silver apologized to Johnson in a statement, adding that owners were working “as expeditiously as possible” on the process for removal. Bass said the committee also discussed the media appearance of Shelly Sterling, who said she wants to keep her share of the franchise even if her estranged husband is forced to give up his. The NBA has said that wouldnt be possible. The 10-member committee was also briefed on the hiring of Dick Parsons as the Clippers interim CEO, and his meeting with team employees Monday. Minnesota owner Glen Taylor chairs the committee that includes Miamis Micky Arison, the Lakers Jeanie Buss, Oklahoma Citys Clay Bennett, New Yorks James Dolan, Bostons Wyc Grousbeck, San Antonios Peter Holt, Phoenixs Robert Sarver, Indianas Herb Simon and Torontos Larry Tanenbaum. The committee plans to reconvene next week. cheap jerseys . Regardless of who is tabbed to replace Calvillo, or at least get first crack at it, there are big shoes to fill. Calvillo has said hes leaning towards retirement after concussion troubles likely capped a brilliant 20-year career as the leagues all-time leading passer. The five-time league All-Star also has three Grey Cup rings and was three-times named the leagues Most Outstanding Player. Steering clear of those lofty standards for the time being, can Smith be the guy to lead Montreal back to the top of the East Division? In his four game audition for the role of successor (three regular season contests and the Eastern Semi-Final), the former Heisman Trophy winner had middling numbers, averaging 231 yards per game with 2.dddddddddddd25 touchdowns to one interception and a 54 percent completion rate. He was the teams third fill-in after Montreal grew tired of both Josh Nieswanders and Tanner Marshs uneven play. Smith gave the Als a chance to win in each of his starts, finishing with a 2-2 record, but fell short of other first-time starters like Zach Collaros and Bo Levi Mitchell in their stints this season. Smith was short on preparation time as well however, being signed in mid-August, only two months before his first start; a full off-season and training camp will serve the former NFLer well. Téma: Nové video - leden 2010 / e game. I did my job," Bu White Sox rookie first baseman Jose Abreu came to major league baseball with some hype, as many Cubans do, but there wasnt any expectation for the kind of first month that hes enjoying. 27-years-old with a power-hitters build (listed at 6-foot-3, 255 pounds), Abreu has roared into the majors, with 10 home runs, 31 RBI, a .262 batting average and .962 OPS in his first 26 games. As with any one-month sample, these numbers arent sustainable, but what is fair to expect from Abreu? For one thing, his batting average on balls in play is .246, which is well below average, so it would be fair to expect his batting average to go up as a few more balls fall in, but hes also had a major-league best 33.3% of his flyballs leave the park, which isnt going to hold. Over the past five seasons, there have been two seasons in which a player finished with more than 27% of his flyballs turning into home runs — Adam Dunn in 2012 (29.3%) and Chris Davis in 2013 (29.6%) — so Abreu is most likely to fall off his current 62-home run pace. No, seriously. What will bear watching with Abreu is how pitchers adjust to him as he makes his way through the league. He swings at a lot of pitches out of the strike zone and hes already seeing among thelowest percentage of strikes when hes at the plate, so pitchers are learning. Its also interesting to note that, thus far, while Abreu destroys fastballs and sliders, hes struggled with change-ups. If thats the scouting report, surely hell start seeing more change-ups, if just to affect his timing. At this point, 14.5% of the pitches Abreu has faced have been change-ups; it will be interesting to see if that number increases over the next month or more. None of this anticipated regression should come as a surprise, merely as a caution. Baseball tends to catch up to sluggers, especially ones that are willing to expand their strike zone by swinging freely. Smith, 30, recorded the first three saves of his career last season for Cleveland. While hes not the classic fire-balling closer, Smith has managed to miss bats this year, striking out 11 in 10 innings, the best rate of his career. Pirates closer Jason Grilli is on the DL with a strained oblique. Mark Melancon, who has 37 career saves, takes over. Melancon has been really good for the Pirates over the past couple seasons, posting a 1.41 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 84 games, striking out 79 in 83 innings. If the Pirates are in position to win games, Melancon is qualified to close them out. Martins said earlier this week his World Cup is the next two months playing for the Seattle Sounders. And it started with his finest goal since joining Major League Soccer. “I just want to score goals,” Martins said. “Thats what I did and Im glad.” Martins scored in the eighth minute to give the Sounders a 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night as both teams began a possible two-month stretch with some of the top players in the league off competing at the World Cup. Martins goal will be in the discussion for best of the season as the year progresses. His goal came from a shallow angle just 4 yards off the end line. Instead of settling Gonzalo Pinedas pass, Martins chipped the one-hopper with his left foot over San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch and just inside the far post. It was the fifth goal of the season for Martins. Instead of the usual backflip that has accompanied his previous goals, Martins simply shook his head possibly a little surprised his difficult attempt found the net. “Its an athletic ability. You cant teach that. Its something that somebody has,” Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said. “Its definitely as good a goal thats been scored here.” Busch said shots from that shallow an angle usually end up coming at the near post or end up on top of the net. “So now he finds the back post. Tip your hat to him. Nothing you can do,” Busch said. “Doesnt matter who you are or where you play, thats a good goal.” The Sounders (8-3-1), who remained the MLS points leader, opened the whole stadium for the firstt time this year and drew 49,746, the largest crowd for any MLS game this season.dddddddddddd Seattle was without three U.S. World Cup hopefuls, while the Earthquakes were minus two. Clint Dempsey, Brad Evans and DeAndre Yedlin were gone for Seattle and San Jose (2-4-4) played without Chris Wondolowski and Clarence Goodson. Also gone for the Earthquakes was Honduran hopeful Victor Bernardez. The Sounders could have been without Martins as well, but he was not selected to join Nigeria for its World Cup camp. Teaming with Dempsey at the top of Seattles attack, Martins has a resume this season that would have been worthy of a call. Instead hes being asked to be the offensive catalyst for Seattle with Dempsey gone. Seattle controlled the match and likely should have scored two or three more times if not for stellar goalkeeping by Busch. He stopped attempts from Lamar Neagle twice in a seven-minute span of the second half and turned away Osvaldo Alonsos attempt in the 84th minute. “My job is to make saves and keep us in the game. I did my job,” Busch said. All the shots being peppered toward Busch made for a quiet night at the other end for Seattles Stefan Frei. With Wondolowski and Bernardez gone, the Earthquakes were missing seven of the 11 goals they have scored this season. The only player in San Joses starting lineup with a goal was midfielder Cordell Cato. San Joses only official shot on goal came on a free kick in the 90th minute from Khari Stephenson that Frei smothered. It was the second shutout of the season for Seattle and important after giving up five goals last Sunday to New England. “The commitment of the team this week after last week was playing to zero,” Schmid said. ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Nové video - leden 2010 / nt areas. Defensi The Toronto Blue Jays got out of the gate with a dismal 10-17 record last season and dug themselves a hole they could never really get out of. Its a scenario they really cant afford to repeat in 2014. Prior to last season, 39 of the last 60 teams that were in first place in their division on June 1 went on to make the post-season. If you look at last years races division by division, there were only two teams that werent in first or second in June who went on to make the playoffs. In the American League West, Texas was in first through April and May with a 34-21 – two games ahead of Oakland. The As went on a 63-32 tear the rest of the way and won the division by five games over the Rangers, who played and lost a sudden death tie-breaker. In the Central, Detroit and Cleveland hit June 1firsy and second in the division with the Tigers leading by a half-game. Detroit wound up taking the division by one game over the Indians. In the East, Boston was on top at 34-23. This is one division where there was a slight exception. Tampa Bay was actually in 4th place heading into the games of June 1 at 30-25. But the Rays were only a half-game back of Baltimore and one game behind the second place Yankees. The Rays finished 61-46 to take second place. The Blue Jays were 23-33 through the first two months and never really came close to getting back in the race, even with that 11 game win streak. In the National League East, Atlanta was 33-22 through April and May and won the division easily with a 96-66 mark. Washington, a pre-season favourite, was 28-28 and missed the playoffs altogether. In the Central, St. Louis got off to a 37-18 start and led the division wire-to-wire on the way to a Major League best 97-65 record. Pittsburgh was third two months in, but overhauled Cincinnati for second place, though both teams won 90 or more and both made the post season. The National League West was the one division where all bets were off after two months. Arizona was on top at 31-24 with a two-and-a-half game lead on the Giants and Rockies. The Dodgers were seven-and-a-half games out through April and May at 23-31. The division practically turned upside down the rest of the way. The D-Backs faded and finished at 81-81 for the second year in a row. San Francisco and Colorado collapsed and both finished 10 or more games below .500. The Dodgers, though, inspired in large part by the arrival of Yasiel Puig went a scorching 69-39 down the stretch and won the division with a 92-70 mark. So it pretty much goes without saying, the Blue Jays need to be at least slightly above .500 through April and May to have any hope of competing in the tough American League East. Their schedule is, by no means, easy with 22 of their 57 games through the first two months against the A.L East, including six against Boston and seven versus Tampa Bay – the two playoff favourites in the division. The Jays only have 10 games over April and May against “lesser” opponents, with three against Houston, three versus Minnesota and a four-game interleague series against Philadelphia. 25 of the 57 are against teams that either made the playoffs last season or were involved in tie-breakers. The Jays also have just one day off in the month of May; a real test of the pitching staff. No team will ever admit theyre out of it after just two months. The Blue Jays didnt a year ago. But in five of the six divisions last season, the two-month mark painted a pretty vivid picture of where teams are really at. The other day I was reading about the new head of the Players Association, Tony Clark, when another name in the article caught my name. It was Steve Rogers, who also works for the Association as a liaison to the players among his many duties. I actually had to double check that it was the same Steve Rogers who once pitched for the Expos. It was. If you get into a conversation with anyone as to who the greatest pitcher in Expos history was, some might suggest Pedro Martinez, who went 55-33 in his four seasons in Montreal. Others might say Dennis Martinez for his perfect game, maybe Bill Stoneman for his two no-hitters or Ross Grimsley for being the Expos first 20-game winner. In my mind, though, it was Steve Rogers. I was surprised to see his career record was only 158-152, but its his other numbers that blow you away. Over 13 seasons, all with Montreal, he pitched over 200 innings in nine of them. Six times he was over 250 innings, four times over 270 and in 1977 when he won 17 games he pitched an incredible 300.2 innings. He actually pitched more innings per season than Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax and had a better career ERA at 3.17 than another Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan. Rogers was a five-time all-star and finished second in the rookie of the year voting and one year was second in the Cy Young balloting. It was a different era, but compare Rogers numbers to one of the Blue Jays all-time greats Roy Halladay in a couple of categories. Rogers had 129 complete games and 37 shutouts and Halladay had 67 complete games and 20 shutouts. Rogers, 64 now, had to retire at 35 when his shoulder essentially gave out on him. He is a member of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame at St, Marys and tries to get back for the Induction Ceremonies every year. He concedes he might even have had a shot at Cooperstown if he had been able to pitch another 5-7 years and could have won another 70 games. The Expos only made the playoffs once in their history – 1981. Steve Rogers beat Phillies legend Steve Carlton twice in the division series and then defeated the Dodgers in Game 3 of the NLCS. But say his name today and many will only remember his relief appearance on “Blue Monday” at the Big “0,” when he gave up the series deciding homer to the Dodgers Rick Monday. If you look at the numbers and the character of the man, Steve Rogers should be remembered for much more than that. In the days leading up to the draft, TSN.ca and TSN Radio basketball analyst Duane Watson looks at some of the names that will be headlining the event. Watch the 2014 NBA Draft on TSN, Thursday at 7pm et/4pm pt. Name: Tyler EnnisFrom: Brampton, OntarioPlayed: Syracuse University Height: 62Weight: 180 Position: Point Guard2013-2014 Stats: 12.9 points, 5.5 assists, 2.1 steals Breakout Game: 14 points, 9 assists in win vs. Duke Feb 1st.Accolades: 2013 – 14 All-ACC Defensive team, Second team All-ACC, finished amongst 10 finalists for Naismith Player of the Year voting. Draft Projection: Mid-late first round.Comparable NBA player: Jrue Holiday While all attention was focused on the impact Andrew Wiggins would make in his first season as a one-and-done player, Tyler Ennis quietly and confidently did the same. Maturity and poise are two things consistently said about Ennis, and with good reason. As a freshman the 62 Brampton, Ontario native expertly and efficiently lead the Orange to a 28-6 record and a No. 1 ranking in the country. The only person who wasnt surprised by Ennis breakout season was Ennis. It wasnt a case of over confidence, but merely confidence. His assuredness in his abilities and talents is what kept him cool in late game situations, where he able to make clutch plays or scoring game-winning baskets. A point guard in everyy sense of the term, he looks for his teammates first and creates opportunities for them – yet is still able to find his own shot when necessary, keeping defenses honest.dddddddddddd For a 19-year-old, he plays a very cerebral game. Taking care of the basketball, he averaged a miserly 1.7 turnovers, reads the floor very well and knows when to pass or make the play himself. Ennis doesnt shy away from the moment, and has a quick enough first step to get to the basket and possess a reliable jumper with good range. He is a legitimate triple threat with a competitive spirit. His strength and explosiveness are questionable, yet strength is always a concern for many collegians moving to the next level. He isnt the quickest point guard, but makes up for lack of speed in a number of different areas. Defensively, he will have to grow as he has had the luxury of sitting in Jim Boeheims zone defense, picking passing lanes and not facing one-on-one match-ups, that he will see in the pros. Ennis has slipped out of the lottery, yet is still the best point guard in the draft. He has the poise and skill set to step into a starting situation right now in the NBA and run an offense, not just getting by on his physical gifts. Ennis again is seemingly flying under the radar, with the entire attention on other one-and-done prospects, with good reason. There is no doubt or wonder in what you will get, which is why he will make the jump to the next level. For Ennis, the belief in himself wouldnt let him do otherwise. ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Nové video - leden 2010 / s to earn another st BOSTON — Nothing could stop Bostons Jared Sullinger on Friday night. Not a bruised left hand. Not the dislocated index finger on his right. And certainly not the Sacramento Kings. Sullinger scored 14 of his career-high 31 points in the fourth quarter, igniting a 15-0 surge that sent the Celtics to a 99-89 victory over the Kings and their longest winning streak in more than two months. Sullinger, who also pulled down 16 rebounds, hit just four of his first 10 shots from the field, but the second-year centre drained 10 of his final 14 as Boston closed the game on a 25-15 run. “I think he feels better every day,” Boston coach Brad Stevens said. "Fair or unfair, thats who we need him to be. And so thats the opportunity in front of him. “Im not saying that you have to get a double-double every day, but hes darn near capable of that.” Jerryd Bayless added 19 points and Jeff Green had 17 for the Celtics, who won their third straight game for the first time since Dec. 3-8. And they did it without their starting backcourt. Rajon Rondo (soreness) and Avery Bradley (ankle) both sat out, allowing Bayless and rookie Phil Pressey to run the offence. But it was Sullinger who helped overcome their absence. The 6-foot-9, 280-pound inside force scored in nearly every way imaginable during his remarkable run in the fourth. He scored on layups, a dunk, a foul shot, a 3-pointer and capped his memorable performance with a nifty turnaround fadeaway on the baseline that kept Boston on top by 14 with 3 minutes to play. “I just went out and played my game,” said Sullinger, who had season-ending back surgery last year. “I have been doing it for the last couple of games and just have been letting it go.” DeMarcus Cousins led the Kings with 31 points and 16 rebounds, but was on the sideline for much of Bostons final push. He went to the bench late in the third with the Celtics up by three, and by the time he returned 4:10 into the fourth, Bostons lead had ballooned to 11. “I dont think I came in focused tonight,” Cousins said. “There were some outside things that strike me tonight, so I blame myself for tonights loss.” Isaiah Thomas had 24 points and Derrick Williams had 11 points and 12 boards for the Kings, who had won two straight. Sullinger actually heated up in the third, stringing together six straight points during a 10-0 run that handed the Celtics a 59-52 lead midway through the quarter. Boston came out firing in the fourth, opening an early 11-point lead on the heels of two 3-pointers from Bayless, who also displayed his defensive skills when he hustled back on a break to block a wide-open layup by Ben McLemore with 7:45 to play. “Just try and make plays. When you play well together, things work out,” Bayless said. “It takes time for people to jell and right now you can see we are starting to jell a bit.” Bayless block only sparked the Celtics — Sullinger in particular |

Téma: Jak postupovat / -- Suspended infielder Miguel Tejada DETROIT — J.D. Martinezs ninth-inning sacrifice fly scored Torii Hunter with the winning run and the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 4-3 Sunday. Hunter led off the ninth with a single off Casey Fein (3-3), and Miguel Cabrera rifled a line drive that almost knocked over shortstop Dany Santana as he made a leaping catch. Victor Martinez then hit a fly ball to the right-field wall, and Oswaldo Arcia dropped it for an error. That put runners on the corners, and J.D. Martinez followed with a fly to medium-depth centre. Hunter never hesitated, and scored easily when Sam Fulds throw was badly off line. Joe Nathan (3-2) pitched a scoreless ninth. Minnesota starter Ricky Nolasco allowed three runs in 5 1-3 innings, while Detroits Rick Porcello pitched seven, also giving up three runs. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first thanks to a defensive mistake by Arcia. With a runner on third and two out, Arcia, who has struggled defensively all series, lost a routine flyball in the sun to give Victor Martinez an easy RBI double. In the second, it was Josh Willingham who misplayed Austin Jacksons liner into the left-field corner, turning a probable double into a stand-up triple. Nick Castellanos followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. The Twins took the lead with three runs in the sixth. Doubles by Joe Mauer and Willingham provided the first run, and Kendrys Morales bringing home the second with a base hit. After a walk to Arcia, Kurt Suzuki lined a single to left, and Minnesota third-base coach Joe Vavra stunned all 41,462 fans by waving the plodding Morales around third. J.D. Martinezs throw had the runner beat by 15 feet, but Alex Avila couldnt handle it, allowing the run to score. Ricky Nolasco, though, couldnt hold the lead. In the bottom of the inning, Nick Castellanos doubled in the tying run, and Nolasco intentionally walked Alex Avila to load the bases with one. It was a risky move, since rookie Eugenio Suarez had three extra-base hits on Saturday, but Jared Burton came out of the bullpen to induce an infield fly. Burton then retired Ian Kinsler to end the inning, with the score tied at three. The Tigers threatened again in the seventh after walks to Cabrera and Victor Martinez, but Matt Guerrier got them out of the jam. Joba Chamberlain and Joe Nathan allowed two runners in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, NOTES: Both teams made roster moves before the game. The Tigers called up LHP Blaine Hardy from Triple-A Toledo to serve as the long man in a struggling bullpen, and sent rookie RHP Corey Knebel back to the Mud Hens. The Twins placed Trevor Plouffe on the 15-day disabled list with the oblique strain he sustained in Saturdays loss, and called up Pedro Florimon from Triple-A Rochester. Coach Jim Caldwell says Painter played well enough in Monday nights loss at Tampa Bay to earn the job. Earlier this week, Caldwell implied Painter would start unless Kerry Collins was cleared to play after suffering a concussion against Pittsburgh. As of Friday, Collins had not been cleared. Caldwell also says it is unlikely right guard Ryan Diem will play against the Chiefs (1-3) but that the Colts (0-4) had not yet ruled him out. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — For the first time in almost two years, Canadas Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are back on top. The Olympic champions won the ice dance title at the Four Continents Championships on Sunday, beating rivals Meryl Davis and Charlie White for the first time since the 2010 worlds. The Canadians overcame a .55-point deficit to Davis and White with a score of 111.24 in the free dance for a total of 182.84. The reigning world champions, Davis and White had not lost a competition since that defeat to Virtue and Moir in 2010. The Americans scored 107.25 in the free dance to earn the silver medal with 179.40. `We were pleased with our skate today and our week overall," said Virtue, a native of London, Ont. `We learned to approach our skating better which is something we havent done since the Olympics. Its skating in unison, getting into that zone and blocking all the distractions. `We feel we still have more improvements to make and we are looking forward to returning to sea level and getting back into training," added Moir, who hails from Ilderton, Ont. Davis and White, who won last years Four Continents title, were the last pair to skate and needed 110.70 to win. “Today, I think some of the calls didnt go our way,” White said. "Not everything is going to go your way. I could not be prouder of the way we fought through both programs. We really worked through it. “We wanted to work on expression, and we did that. I felt like our elements were pretty good.” Canadas Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, both of Waterloo, Ont., were third at 163.26. `It was a really good performance we felt we built upon what we did at nationals," said Poje. `Weve been treating this competition as a stepping stone towards the world championships." Alexandra Paul of Midhurst, Ont., and Mitchell Islam of Barrie, Ont., were sixth. As the first team on the ice for the free skate in the pairs competition earlier Sunday, Chinas Sui Wenjingg and Han Cong had a chance to send a message to the other medal contenders.dddddddddddd They did just that. The two-time junior world champions were stellar in the free skate, earning a season-best 135.08 points for a 201.83 total that would not be eclipsed. “We feel very excited,” Han said. "Maybe tonight we cant sleep. I think later in the program there were a little nerves, but we feel we adjusted to our program. The throws were successful, and we are very pleased. “This is our first time to win a senior competition, and we are happy and excited.” Americans Caydee Denney and John Coughlin — fresh off a title at the 2012 U.S. championships — had a season-best score of their own with 122.07 points, but settled for second at 185.42. The American tandem of Mary Beth Marley and Rockne Brubaker took bronze with 178.89 points after a season-best 116.47 in the free skate. Canadian champions Meagan Duhamel of Lively, Ont., and Eric Radford of Balmertown, Ont., climbed from eighth after the short program to fourth overall with 171.76 points just seven points shy from the bronze. `We had to dig deep to put it together today," said Duhamel. `Despite the mistakes, we gave a performance which is what we had lacked in the short program. In that aspect were happy but we know it can be better." Paige Lawrence of Kennedy, Sask., and Rudy Swiegers of Kipling, Sask., were seventh and Jessica Dube of Saint-Cyrille de Wendover, Que., and Sebastien Wolfe of Terrebonne, Que., eighth. `The program wasnt what we wanted but it was a great experience," said Lawrence. `Its great motivation to go back home and keep working hard." `It wasnt performance we wanted today but the experience we gained for the world championships will be very valuable," said Wolfe. `Well work on what we struggled with here today so we can put down two solid performances at the world championships." – with files from the The Canadian Press. ’ ’ ’ |

Torres went 4-2 with a 1.71 ERA in 39 appearances with the Rays, raking third among AL relievers with a .159 opponents batting average. The Richmond, B.C., native added eight rebounds and was named the tournaments most valuable player as the top-seeded Ravens defended their 2011 championship. “The biggest thing is to win the whole thing as a team,” said Scrubb. NAPLES, Fla. — Natalie Gulbis got off to a rocky start and put herself in position for a great finish. That describes her year as much as her third round Saturday in the LPGA Titleholders. Gulbis hooked a 5-iron into the water and made bogey on the par-5 opening hole, and then bounced back for a 7-under 65. That gave Gulbis a share of the lead with Gerina Piller and Pornanong Phatlum of Thailand. They each had a 67. The leaders were at 11-under 205, though it was far from a three-player race for the richest prize in womens golf. Stacy Lewis virtually wrapped up the Vare Trophy with a tournament-record 63, and now has a chance to do so much more. Lewis was two shots behind, along with Shanshan Feng of China (67), Lexi Thompson (67) and 36-hole leader Sandra Gal, whose 74 let so many players back into contention. Michelle Wie, on the one-year anniversary of her peculiar putting stroke, had a 66 and was among three shots behind. A dozen players were separated by four shots going into the final round of the season at Tiburon Golf Club, where the winner gets $700,000 from the $2 million purse. That most likely wont be 16-year-old Lydia Ko, who had a 72 and was nine shots behind in her pro debut. Gulbis hasnt won a tournament since 2007, and it looked unlikely for this year to end that drought. She became ill at her first tournament of the year in Thailand and later was diagnosed with malaria. Gulbis was told to rest for two months, take “medicine I cant even pronounce,” and she spent the first part of the year trying to return too early and suffering setbacks. It wasnt until June that she could get through a round of golf and have enough energy left to practice. She didnt qualify for any of the events on the Asia swing, instead spending that time at home in Las Vegas retooling her swing with coach Butch Harmon. But she hit her stride on a warm day along the gulf shores of Florida. Even though the 5-iron was a shock — she was trying to lay it up on the right side of the fairway, and the water is way on the left — she quickly piled up birdies and finished with eight of them. “To be in the mix, and to be making birdies, is what you play for,” Gulbis said. Five players had at least a share of the lead at one point, and Sundayy figures to be a sprint to the finish.dddddddddddd. Gal made this dynamic leaderboard possible with a double bogey on the second hole, and the 28-year-old German never quite recovered. After making 14 birdies the opening two rounds, she made only one on Saturday. Lewis felt a sense of relief even as the leaderboard was tightening. Suzann Pettersen has to finish nine shots ahead of Lewis to win the Vare Trophy for the lowest scoring average. They started the day tied at par, and Lewis walked off the 18th green knowing she was virtually a lock to become the first American since Beth Daniel in 1994 to win the prestigious award. Lewis had a 63. Pettersen struggled to a 71, and now needs a 17-shot swing on Sunday to overtake Lewis. “Suzann was playing right behind me and I told myself I was not going to look back there all day long,” Lewis said. “I wasnt going to look at a leaderboard and I was just going to take care of myself. And thats why I did.” Now theres that matter of winning a tournament that gives Lewis another chance to end a long drought. She can take the money title with a win Sunday, which would make Lewis the first American since Betsy King in 1995 to win the Vare Trophy and the money title in the same year. The record day for Lewis started with a 5-iron from 177 yards that she holed for eagle on the third hole, though it still wasnt her best 5-iron of the year. She hit a pretty good one at St. Andrews on the 17th hole of the final round that carried her to victory in the Womens British Open. It was at the Old Course when Lewis realized the golf can take some quick and unexpected turns. She was two shots behind playing the 17th at St. Andrews and wound up winning. So even 11 shots behind going into Saturday, Lewis realized there was plenty of golf left. The final round is shaping up the same way, and it even includes Wie, who hasnt won since the Canadian Womens Open three years ago. It was at the CME Titleholders a year ago where she bent her torso parallel to the ground and turned that into her putting stroke. “Proud creator of the tabletop — trademark, patent pending,” she joked. “But it feels good. It feels good that I found something I created myself.” And its working. ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Jak postupovat / irst for the Kings, who had a goal 32 seconds VAL DISERE, France – World Cup leader Tina Wierather of Liechtenstein protected her lead from the first run to win the first giant slalom race of her career on Sunday, her second victory of the season and third of her fast-improving career. “Today was a very great day for me. It was always my dream to be good in GS,” Wierather said. “I took quite a long time to get there. It feels awesome to have my first win (in GS).” Wierather leads overall with 595 points from Lara Gut (568), who finished second, and Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany (535). “Its cool to have the chance to fight for it. Its the first time Ive been so consistent. But its only December so Im not thinking about that,” Wierather said. “Its just that Ive been healthy for some years now and I could improve a little bit every summer. I feel very strong and feel ready for more than just downhill, but also super-G and GS.” Julia Mancuso of the United States did not finish the second run. After winning a super-G race at St. Moritz last weekend, the 24-year-old Wierather secured her third career win and 13th podium finish with an overall time of 2 minutes, 24.10 seconds. “Its a process of many years. I tried to improve my technique, my physical performance. Its like a big puzzle and at the moment it looks like it is working,” Wierather said. “I used to play tennis until I was 12. I never liked this battle. In skiing its you against the hill and you see the time. You just fight the hill and not the other girls. Thats what I like about ski racing.” Wierather was 0.75 seconds clear of Gut, who was third after the first run, and 0.95 ahead of Swedens Maria Pietilae-Holmner, who had been second. Italian Federica Brignone was fourth, ahead of the former World Cup winner Hoefl-Riesch. Gut has four World Cup wins this season, and five podiums, but had failed to finish the last two GS races. “Its always fun to be on the podium and to make points,” the 22-year-old said. “But I was skiing good even in Beaver Creek and St. Moritz before going off course.” Pietilae-Holmner, the GS runner-up at the 2007 worlds, secured her first World Cup podium in GS. “Its a perfect Christmas present,” the 27-year-old said. “I had two seasons with both knee injury and shoulder injury. Im back without injury so I can put the energy in the right things.” World slalom champion Mikaela Shiffrin was eighth, improving from her 12th-place finish in slalom at Courchevel on Tuesday. The previous weekend, the 18-year-old had failed to finish another GS in the Swiss resort of St. Moritz. “I was really tired coming from the U.S. to here (Europe). I had to rethink how I was doing things, getting my recoveries and stuff,” Shiffrin said. “Before this race I actually got some rest and I felt a lot better today, which means that I just have to ski faster. Im happy with the top 10.” She thought that she could have done better, however, with more preparation. “I think the first run was a little bit straighter than I thought it would be from looking at it on inspection. Its a lesson for next time,” she said. “I have to be able to see its a little straighter so I can go, because some of the other girls hammered it and they were really fast, and thats where I lost some time.” Defending overall champion Tina Maze, who was second in Saturdays downhill, improved in her second run to finish 11th. The Slovenian is still looking for her first win of the season and says she feels mentally tired. “Maybe its the result of the progam I have. Since St. Moritz every day Im in ski boots, skiing and training and its tough to be in shape every day and to concentrate 100 per cent,” she said. “I really need two days break now, just to relax a little bit. I think its pretty tiring when youre going up and down and fighting every day to be positive.” The 30-year-old Maze looked set for a competitive time but almost fell on her first run. “I was skiing really good so Im excited about my skiing, but with that mistake it was just too hard to come in front and be relaxed in the second run,” she said. “I was attacking too much and on this snow when you push too much its not a good idea.” . St. Louis had two goals and an assist, Ben Bishop improved to 4-0, and the Lightning beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-1 on Tuesday night. Tampa Bay was coming off a 5-4 loss to Pittsburgh Saturday night in which Matt Niskanen scored a tiebreaking power-play goal with 18.6 seconds left. “It was important to answer,” St. Louis said. “I felt like we gave up at least one point last game. In his league at home, youve got a homestand, you cant lose two in a row. I thought we answered pretty well from the get-go.” St. Louis has four goals and 10 points during a five-game point streak. He assisted on Malones goal for his 900th point with the Lightning. Including his time with Calgary, St. Louis has 922 points, which is 94th on the NHL career list. “Remarkable … To be able to continue to excell for as long as hes played in this league,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said of the 38-year old St. Louis. “He still considers himself a young kid. And to just be able to have a front row seat, Im glad Im here to watch this.” Ryan Malone, Teddy Purcell and Ondrej Palat had the other Tampa Bay (4-2) goals. Bishop made a strong save in the second on Trevor Lewis shot from the low left circle. The goalie had missed one game after having his right leg jammed during the third period of last Thursdays game against Florida. Los Angeles (4-3) goalie Jonathan Quick was pulled late in the second after allowing three goals on 17 shots. Quick had a 3-0 record with an 0.55 goals-against-average in four previous games against Tampa Bay. “We clearly out-played them the second period and were still down,” Los Angeles coach Darryl Sutter said. “Their goalie was outstanding.” Slava Voynov scored ffor the Kings, who had a three-game winning atreak end.dddddddddddd. His goal ended Bishops shutout bid at 10:27 of the third. St. Louis ended Quicks night on a goal from the low slot that gave the Lightning a 3-0 advantage with 3:38 remaining in the second. Malone put the Lightning up 1-0 when he re-directed Sami Salos shot just 19 seconds into the game. “I thought we did a good job of getting off to a good start,” said Bishop, who made 30 saves. “Score on the first shift like that, big momentum for our team and we kind of kept it going.” Purcell made it 2-0 from the low left circle on Tampa Bays eighth shot with 7:16 left in the first. “Weve got to just regroup after this game, throw it out and realize we need a lot better effort and a lot better detail out of our game,” Kings defenceman Matt Greene said. “We just didnt break their speed. Weve got to do a better job in the neutral zone to kind of combat that, and we didnt do a very good job tonight. Weve just got to learn from it and move on.” St. Louis got his second goal of the game with 7:20 to play. Palat scored late in the third to extend the Lightning lead to 5-1. Voynov hit the post late in the first for the Kings, who had a goal 32 seconds into the second disallowed because of incidental contact with the goalie. Los Angeles also failed to score during a 4-minute power after Salo received a high-sticking penalty at 3:08 of the second. The Kings, who had 10 shots on the power play, went 0 for 5 with the man advantage. Tampa Bay failed to convert on its three opportunties. NOTES: Bishop was briefly shaken up after taking Daniel Carcillos shot off the mask late in the first. … Ben Scrivens replaced Quick and gave up two goals on eight shots. … Kings D Drew Doughty was minus-4 for the game. … This was just the fourth time in the last 10 years that the Kings played a road game against Tampa Bay. ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Jak postupovat / "second-best job in the wor CHICAGO — The owners of the Chicago Cubs say theyre moving forward with plans to renovate and expand Wrigley Field, despite the threat of lawsuits by the owners of the adjacent rooftop venues overlooking the 100-year-old ballpark. Chairman Tom Ricketts, whose family owns the team on Chicagos North Side, said in a statement released Thursday that the Cubs will submit a revised expansion plan to the Commission on Chicago Landmarks that includes the teams original proposal to add several outfield signs and additional bleacher seats. “Unfortunately, it seems like my familys plans for Wrigley Field have gotten lost in the dispute with the rooftops,” he said. “As a result, despite having new city ordinances to allow for expansion and renovation at Wrigley Field, we are back to square one with the rooftop businesses.” Ricketts said the teams negotiations with the owners of the adjacent rooftop venues are “back to square one” and that its time to move forward. A lawyer representing the rooftop owners said they would fight the move. “It appears their zeal to block rooftop owners who pay them millions of dollars a year in royalties knows no bounds,” lawyer Ryan McLaughlin said in a statement. “Unfortunately, this decision by the Ricketts family will now result in this matter being resolved in a court of law.” The City Council approved the Cubs $500 million renovation plan last summer, but it has been stalled by opposition from the owners of the 15 rooftop venues. They have a contract with Cubs that runs through 2023 requiring them to pay the team 17 per cent of their gross annual revenue. The rooftop owners fear the signs and additional seating will block their views of the field. The two sides appeared to be close to a deal before the Cubs annual fan convention last month when Ricketts made some remarks that the neighbours considered disparaging. Ricketts revised expansion plan requires Landmark Commission approval for additional seating, new lighting, four additional LED signs of up to 650 square feet, and a 2,400-square-foot video board in right field. Other changes sought by the Cubs that dont require commission approval include: design modification to the player facilities, including expanding the Cubs clubhouse; expansion of the visitors clubhouse; movement of the bullpen to an area under the bleachers; and a reduction in the size of a left field video board already approved by the city. “I know this plan is in the best interest of our fans and our players,” Ricketts said in a video posted on the teams website. “We hope to avoid heading to the courthouse. But the most important thing is we want to exercise our right to expand and preserve the ballpark we own and love.” The Cubs have invested in facilities and their farm system, and the team this year opened a new facility funded by taxpayers in Mesa, Arizona. Ricketts has acknowledged some difficulties stemming from the $845 million purchase of the team from Tribune Co. that left the Ricketts family with a debt load. But he pointed out Thursday that the team hasnt sought city or state economic development money he says is routinely obtained for projects such as this. “We want to exercise our right to improve Wrigley Field,” he said. The two lead a Canadian mens field hockey team that, along with Canadas womens squad, will be battling for an Olympic berth beginning Saturday in New Delhi. “To play in London would be an absolute dream,” Short said from the teams recent training camp in Vancouver. “This one, as Kenny and I look to the end — as we both have to — we know there isnt another chance after it. So its just huge for both of us.” Qualifying will be no small feat. The Canadian men and women must win their respective six-team tournaments to book tickets to the Games, a difficult back-door qualifying route that Canada has never successfully navigated. Canada, at least, has experience on its side. Pereira, a native of Unionville, Ont., holds the Canadian record for international appearances with 342, and is the most-capped player in the tournament. Short is only two behind him. Each has almost as many caps as the entire Italian team combined (381). The two veterans — Pereira is 38, while Short is 39 — played in both the 2000 and 2008 Olympics, and would love nothing better than to make one more trip to the Games as their careers wind down. “Youre always thinking, man, the window is always closing, the door is always shutting on a career. . .,” said Pereira, the Canadian captain. "We were 34, 35 at the last (Olympics), and we were thinking then that its pretty tough at that age to go to the Olympics. And we got in and it was awesome that we qualified and it was so much fun. “To do it again, four years later, and four years older would be pretty sweet as well.” Both the men and women open Saturday against Italy. The top two teams after the five-game round robins will meet in the final. The womens final is Feb. 25, while the mens final is a day later. Canadas No. 14 mens side is the second-ranked team in the tournament behind India (No. 10). The Canadian women (No. 20) are ranked fourth in their tournament and are looking for their first Olympic berth since 1992. Stephanie Jameson of Vancouver (162 caps) is the Canadian womens most experienced player. The Canadian men could be on a collision course with India for the final — what would surely be a noisy affair at New Delhis 20,000-seat Dhyan Chand National Stadium. “Coming from Canada its always fun when you can play in front of big crowds, even though they cheer against you,” said Pereirra, whose Indian-born parents will both be in attendance.dddddddddddd"Its just something new for us because you come from Canada where field hockey isnt very big, you may get 100 people at one of your international games here. “Some guys Im sure will be a bit nervous, with the pressure. . . but I think for me personally and some of the older guys you kind of feed off the energy of the crowd.” Some of the younger players worked with a sports psychologist to prepare for the big crowds. The Canadian men narrowly missed clinching a London berth back in October at the Pan American Games, losing 3-1 to Argentina in a heartbreaking final. The women finished fourth there. “For me, these next six games are the most important games of my life,” Short said. “Im just hoping that all the boys from the youngest guy to the oldest guy — which is me — think the same. Were just so looking forward to the challenge.” The two vets, whose careers have taken parallel paths since they made their national team debuts in 1994, hope to suit up for Canada a few more times, regardless of whether they qualify for London. The 2013 World Cup qualifying tournament will be held in the Toronto area. “It would be fantastic if I could play in that, its in my hometown. . . 340 some-odd games Ive played for Canada and Ive only played four in Toronto,” said Pereira, who carried Canadas flag at the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. “I definitely dont want to stop playing just yet. I know its close, but I dont want it to be this year or next.” The 2014 World Cup is in the Netherlands — where Short has plied his trade professionally for the last 14 years and Pereira played for five years. “We still love it and were still fit and were still playing really well,” Short said. Short hopes to eventually coach Canadas national team, calling it the “second-best job in the world.” Both veterans admit they dread the day they have to pack away the competitive sticks. “For me, its just been a dream come true. I just wish I could do another 10 years,” Short said. “Its such a great way to live. Sure you put a ton of stuff on hold, and you focus purely on your sport, but in the end, its all been so worth it.” The Canadian mens round-robin schedule has them playing Poland on Sunday, Singapore next Tuesday, India on Wednesday, then France next Friday. The women play India on Sunday, Ukraine on Tuesday, Poland on Wednesday, and then South Africa next Friday. ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Jak postupovat / hots on goal ... Dallas fewest Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) – Arizona Cardinals running back Beanie Wells will be sidelined an undefined period of time after suffering a knee injury in Sundays game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cards head coach Ken Whisenhunt on Monday refuted an earlier report which stated Wells suffered a bone bruise and was in line to miss one to two weeks. Whisenhunt did not reveal the specific injury Wells sustained, nor did he offer any kind of timetable for recovery, but stated that Wells knee did “lock up on him” and that it will not require surgery. Whisenhunt added that the club will monitor Wells progress throughout the week. In Wells absence, Alfonso Smith has been tabbed as the likely starter, with Chester Taylor and LaRod Stephens-Howling also in the mix. The 23-year-old Ohio State product rushed for 42 yards on 12 attempts in the 32-20 defeat to the defending AFC champs. He has totaled 423 yards and six TDs on 91 rushes this season. Arizona plays at Baltimore this coming Sunday. DALLAS — The way the New Jersey Devils defence played on Thursday night, they didnt need much offence. What they did need, the Devils got from Patrik Elias. Elias scored a power-play goal 40 seconds into overtime to give the New Jersey Devils a 3-2 victory over the Dallas Stars. “It always comes back to bite you when you play that poorly and take a penalty,” Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. New Jersey allowed only 16 shots and scored twice on the power play. “Huge, two power-play goals,” New Jersey coach Peter DeBoer said. “It probably didnt need to get to overtime if we could have buried some of our chances, but we did on the power play and that was critical.” The Stars tied the score on Tyler Seguins goal with 52 seconds remaining in regulation play. Dainius Zubrus scored in the first period and Travis Zajac added a goal in the second to give New Jersey a 2-0 lead. Jamie Benn scored on a backhand at 10:52 of the second to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Devils, allowing the fewest shots per game of any NHL team, held Dallas to its season low. Cory Schneider made 14 saves for his second victory over the Stars this season. Elias and Zajac each had an assist and Jaromir Jagr assisted on two goals for New Jersey. Seguin added an assist for Dallas. Kari Lehtonen made 21 saves. He has allowed only six goals in losing three of his last four games against New Jersey The Devils dominated early. Dallas didnt put a shot on goal until a 5-on-3 advantage more than five minutes in. Even during that 75-second stretch, the Stars had only one shot. “Im embarrassed myself with that,” Seguin said. “Thats unacceptable.” Ruff said: “It was just a killer.” DeBoer called the 5-on-3 penalty kill “huge.” “t;It would have been easy there to lose our focus.dddddddddddd We didnt. We buckled down. To get out of the first period up was key.” New Jersey scored first, at 10:59 of the first period. Zubrus sent a slap shot from the right faceoff circle over Lehtonens glove and into the right corner. Dallas had its best scoring chance a minute and a half before the end of the first period. Cody Eakin took a pass in the slot but shot the puck into Schneiders body. For the period, New Jersey outshot the Stars 7-4. The four shots tied Dallas season low for a period. Lehtonen prevented another Devils goal three minutes into the second period when he made a glove save on Zajac while prone on the ice. Zajac did score on a power play at 9:50 of the second, when he tipped Damien Brunners drive past Lehtonen. Barely a minute later, Dallas broke through for its first goal against Schneider in more than 90 minutes this season. Benn took a pass from Seguin with his back to the goal and backhanded the puck into the net. New Jersey again had an advantage in shots, 7-6, with the Devils final two shots short-handed NOTES: Schneider has the only shutout against Dallas this season, with 26 saves in a 1-0 victory Jan. 9. . The Devils season low in shots allowed for a game is 15 … In the Stars previous seven games they averaged 33 shots on goal … Dallas fewest shots in a game this season had been 18 in a 4-3 victory at Chicago Dec. 3. … New Jersey won both games between the teams this season … The Stars streak of scoring a power-play goal in eight consecutive games ended … Play was stopped during the third period because a panel of glass broke above the boards … Dallas recalled C Dustin Jeffrey from Texas of the American Hockey League Thursday, but he was inactive for the game. ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Jak postupovat / edly pay him $2.25 million ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Brandon Morrow gave up four hits over three innings, Jose Bautista drove in a run and a Toronto Blue Jays split squad beat the Canadian junior national team 12-2 Tuesday. Making his second start and third appearance of spring training following a season-ending forearm injury last May, Morrow allowed two runs — one earned — walked three and struck out two during a 46-pitch outing. He gave up five runs and six hits in three innings against Pittsburgh on March 5. Bautista went 1 for 2 with a double and a first-inning sacrifice fly off 17-year-old Ben Onyshko. Colby Rasmus returned to the Blue Jays lineup after missing seven games with a stiff neck. He was 0 for 2 with a walk. Blue Jays 3, Tigers 2 (10) LAKELAND, Fla. — Justin Verlander pitched one-hit ball into the fourth inning of his spring debut for the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, a 3-2, 10-inning loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. Verlanders spring routine has been postponed by his recovery from core-muscle repair surgery on Jan. 9, and his first scheduled start was rained out last Thursday. “It was a really good sign to get out there on the mound and not worry about it, and worry about getting batters out and (the results) still be pretty good,” he said. "I put in a lot of work after surgery to get to this point and be ready for the start of the season. The 2011 MVP and Cy Young Award winner threw 52 pitches, giving up a first-inning single to Melky Cabrera and walking two in 3 2-3 innings. He had two strikeouts, using only his fastball and curveball. “Im not throwing sliders yet. I threw three in the bullpen, the first three I threw all year and they were good,” he said. “I just want to get down to my three main pitches first, and the slider has always been pretty easy for me to throw for strikes. Its pretty similar to throwing my fastball so it doesnt take a big adjustment for me to get that going.” Don Kellys two-run home run off Toronto starter Todd Redmond put the Tigers up 2-0 in the second inning. Dan Johnson tied it for the Blue Jays with a two-run shot off Joba Chamberlain in the seventh, Johnsons third home run in 14 at-bats. Redmond gave up five hits and two runs in four innings while striking out three. Bradley Glenns led off the 10th inning with a home run off Melvin Mercedes to win it for the Blue Jays. STARTING TIME Blue Jays: Redmond, a late replacement for Marcus Stroman, has given up four home runs in nine innings. Stroman stayed in Dunedin to pitch against the Canada National Junior Team. Tigers: Verlander went four innings in his first start because of his efficiency. He threw only 52 pitches. “Just because the way he was pitching, we thought it could go to an extra inning,” said manager Brad Ausmus. “We consulted him just to make sure he felt OK. He said he did, so we kind of rolled with it.” Verlander expects to be ready for opening day, and Ausmus said he is only a few pitches behind the other starters at this point. SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The start of the San Francisco 49ers three-day mandatory minicamp was overshadowed by the players who were absent. Two-time Pro Bowl tight end Vernon Davis and right guard Alex Boone skipped Tuesdays activities. Both starters are seeking raises despite two years left on their contracts. Cornerback Eric Wright, a seven-year veteran who played in seven games for the 49ers last season, announced his retirement. Wright said in a statement released through the team that he “no longer had the same passion” for the game. While Wrights announcement came as a surprise in the locker room, Davis and Boone are far bigger contributors to a 49ers team that has Super Bowl aspirations. Coach Jim Harbaugh said he appreciates players who show up for the voluntary workouts in the off-season but expects everybody in attendance for the mandatory meetings. He said he was disappointed that Davis and Boone are not at the minicamp. “Not the decision that I envisioned being the 49er way,” Harbaugh said. “Really nothing more to be said about it. The focus will be on whats going on here.” Players can be fined nearly $70,000 if they miss all three days of the minicamp, per the NFLs collective bargaining agreement. If Davis and Boone continue to hold out, they set the stage for what could be a major distraction leading into training camp next month for a franchise that has avoided such contract disputes the past few seasons under Harbaugh and general manager Trent Baalke. Neither Davis nor Boone was present during the first eight weeks of the teams voluntary program. Davis sacrificed a $200,000 bonus and Boone $50,000 for missing the workouts. And while both are seeking new deals, Davis has been the most vocal about his situation. “In 2010 I signed a five-year, $37 million contract extension with $23 million guaranteed. It was the biggest contract for a tight end in league history. Four years later, and Im playing at a higher level than I was then, which brings me to why Im holding out,” Davis wrote in a guest column for MMQB.com on Monday. “Its all about getting paid what you deserve. Its not that complicated. I want the 49ers to win the Super Bowl, and I want to be on the field this summer working toward that goal, but I have to worry about my future first.” “Most of my teammates and many players in the NFL understand that. A few dont,” Davis continued. “Behind closed doors, theylll say theyre all about the team and would run through a brick wall for the organization.ddddddddddddBut when you look closer, theyre doing things to contradict themselves. I cant listen to anyone but my family and my advisors, because those are the people who are going to be there when football inevitably dumps me.” Davis, who initially acted coy about skipping the teams voluntary off-season program, began making his displeasure known shortly before the 49ers announced they had given quarterback Colin Kaepernick a six-year contract extension through the 2020 season that could be worth up to $126 million. Davis, who is now 30 years old, had 52 catches for 850 yards and accounted for 13 of Kaepernicks 21 touchdown passes last season. The tight end has repeatedly talked about marketing his “brand” this off-season after signing a deal with Fantex, which sells shares of Davis “stock” to investors. The San Francisco company paid Davis $4 million in return for 10 per cent of his future earnings from football, commercial endorsements and other jobs that he may get during the remainder of his life. The 27-year-old Boone signed a contract extension while he was a backup tackle in November 2011. He has two years remaining on the deal, which will reportedly pay him $2.25 million this season and $1.45 million next season. Most of their teammates responded in similar fashion when asked about their absences — saying its a decision each player has to make on their own. Second-year safety Eric Reid, whose locker is next to Wrights, said it was a little surprising when he heard Wright was considering not playing anymore. Wright had been competing for the job vacated by former starters Carlos Rogers and Tarell Brown, who both signed with the Oakland Raiders in free agency. The 49ers are treating minicamp as an opportunity for others to make an impact. Vance McDonald and Garrett Celek are expected to receive most of the practice repetitions behind Davis at tight end. Joe Looney is competing at the guard spot, while tackle Jonathan Martin is receiving some time at guard. Daniel Kilgore also can play centre and guard. Tramaine Brock, Chris Culliver, Perrish Cox, Chris Cook, Darryl Morris and rookies Dontae Johnson and Kenneth Acker are competing at cornerback. “Its next man up,” 49ers offensive co-ordinator Greg Roman said. “Thats how it goes.” ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Jak postupovat / tinez opted for experience wh EAST LANSING, Mich. — Keith Appling put together an impressive performance after a poor one. Appling scored 16 of his career-high tying 27 points in the first half to help No. 5 Michigan State pull away and rout New Orleans 101-48 Saturday. The senior point guard, playing with a hip pointer, was held to four points on 2-for-11 shooting with just two assists in last weeks 14-point win at Texas. “I was able to get a couple of days off over Christmas break and rest up,” Appling said. “That helped my body heal. Now, my hip feels 100 per cent.” Appling equaled the career high in scoring he set last month against Oklahoma, a fact that didnt surprise New Orleans coach Mark Slessinger. “Being from the Midwest, Im still a Big Ten junkie and I watch Big Ten stuff,” said Slessinger, who is from Bloomington, Ind. “Hes always been underrated nationally. We didnt stop him in transition and he played a very, very efficient game.” Appling matched a season high with eight assists, had only one turnover and grabbed five rebounds against the Privateers. “The biggest thrill was Keith coming off one of his worst games, really bounced back,” Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said. The Spartans (11-1) struggled for several minutes against New Orleans (3-5) before taking control with a 12-0 run midway through the first half. They led 44-27 at halftime and easily added to their comfortable cushion in the second half with 57 more points, finishing with their highest-scoring game since beating Nebraska-Omaha 110-68 two years ago. “Once we got on track, there were some bright spots,” Izzo said. The Privateers had won two straight, including their previous game at UTEP. New Orleans Matt Derenbecker scored 16 and Cory Dixon had 11 points. “We took some ill-timed shots that were outside of our game plan,” Slessinger said. “We wanted to shorten the game and make it almost a little ugly and really try to work the clock and try to get the best shot we could. We got out of our comfort zone and our game plan for this game and that allowed them to make runs.” Gary Harris scored 19, Adreian Payne had 17 points and Denzel Valentine had 10 points, a career-high 13 rebounds and six assists for the Spartans in their final tuneup before beginning the Big Ten season Tuesday night at Penn State. Michigan State rested starting forward Branden Dawson because of a shin bruise. “He got kicked in the shin (Friday) on a drill,” Izzo said, adding he probably couldve played Saturday. The Spartans also let centre Matt Costello watch one more game even though he was cleared to play. Costello missed his fourth straight game with mononucleosis, but is expected to play a little in the conference opener. Reserve centre Kenny Kaminski will be eligible to add depth against the Nittany Lions after serving an academic-related, three-game suspension. “I like the direction were heading,” Izzo said. “I just need more consistency, but when you dont get practice with everybody for three weeks, you shouldnt be totally surprised by the lack of consistency.” Harris responded with a poor start against New Orleans with a solid game offensively. The sophomore shooting guard was 0 for 5 before a second straight 3-pointer capped Michigan States pivotal run that gave it a 21-10 lead. Before the burst, the Spartans had more turnovers (six) than made shots (four) against a fired-up team aiming for an upset. New Orleans, a Southland Conference school, couldnt sustain its early success and fell to 7-30 against ranked teams. “We started off kind of sluggish,” Appling said. “We didnt cover things exactly to way we wanted, but the big thing is that we finished strong.” . But this time, the Gunners weathered the storm. Arsene Wengers team was on the ropes in the early stages of a lively FA Cup tie, until Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored a goal against the run of the play. His strike shifted the momentum in the hosts favour and he set up another for Lukas Podolski as Arsenal won 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday. Following their 5-1 thrashing at Anfield in the Premier League, when they conceded four goals in the opening 20 minutes, the Gunners got their revenge after surviving another sustained period of Liverpool pressure in the second half. They will next face Everton at home after the Toffees booked their place with a 3-1 defeat of Swansea, while Manchester City will face Cup holder Wigan in a rematch of last years final. “The intensity of the performance pleased me, I am very proud of the way we responded to the huge defeat that we had last week,” said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, chasing his first piece of silverware since the 2005 FA Cup. Liverpool again looked the stronger team in the early stages. A superb through ball from Steven Gerrard found Daniel Sturridge, but the England strikers low shot was parried away by keeper Lukasz Fabianski. Luis Suarezs flicked pass then picked out Sturridges run behind Per Mertesacker, but Fabianski forced him to shoot wide. “I thought the best team lost. I thought the very least we deserved was a replay,” Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said. “We probably should have been 2-0 up inside those first six or seven minutes. Going forward we were outstanding. Im disappointed with the goals, the first one in particular was just a long ball into the box.” Though Arsenal struggled to keep the ball, Oxlade-Chamberlain put the home side ahead after Liverpool failed to clear a free kick. Yaya Sanogo, making his first start for Arsenal, saw his shot blocked by Gerrard but the ball rebounded for Oxlade-Chamberlain, who confidently slotted home from close range past Brad Jones in the 16th minute. Arsenal was sharper on the ball after the goal but Liverpool remained dangerous on the break, with Suarez combining well with Sturridge on a swift counterattack. Raheem Sterling then showed his speed and technique down the left flank, rounding Carl Jenkinson before his tired effort from a narrow anglle was diverted away for a corner.dddddddddddd Suarez had two more opportunities to put his team level before halftime but Fabianski, having a superb game, dived well to deny his low shot before the Uruguay striker missed the target with a chip from the edge of the box. Suarez went close immediately after the interval when he almost beat Fabianski with a low shot that forced the keeper into a fine reflex save. Arsenal doubled its lead on the next move, a slick-passing counterattack concluded by Podolski, who scored with a clean finish from Oxlade-Chamberlains cutback in the 47th. Arsenal then had a good spell of possession but, after Suarez unleashed a powerful volley over the bar and Mesut Ozil threatened Jones with a low shot, the Uruguay striker won a penalty when Podolski clumsily clipped his ankle in the box. Gerrard coolly converted from the spot to pull one back, sending Fabianski the wrong way in the 59th minute. Suarez was jeered by Arsenal supporters when he went down after a hefty collision with Oxlade-Chamberlain in the box with 26 minutes to go. Referee Howard Webb ignored the visitors appeals for another penalty. Substitute Santi Cazorla should have restored Arsenals two-goal lead in the 73rd when he thumped a volley far over the bar while unmarked from the edge of the box. Daniel Agger had Liverpools best chance to make it 2-2 in the 87th minute, but his header following a free kick from Gerrard just drifted over the top. At Goodison Park, substitute Steven Naismith scored a goal and won a penalty. With the score level at 1-1, Everton manager Roberto Martinez opted for experience when he made a double substitution on the stroke of the hour, with Naismith and Leon Osman replacing Lacina Traore and Ross Barkley. The move paid off as Naismith took full advantage of Neil Taylors back pass to slide the ball into the bottom corner in the 65th minute. Everton was then awarded a penalty after Jazz Richards fouled Naismith, with Leighton Baines converting. Traore had put Everton ahead, back-heeling into the net from close range in the fourth minute before Jonathan de Guzman equalized. Chris Porter scored twice in stoppage time as Sheffield United also advanced by beating Nottingham Forest 3-1. There will be a non-Premier League side in the semifinals as third-tier United will either take on second-division sides Sheffield Wednesday or Charlton Athletic in the last eight. ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Jak postupovat / et and two members of the BALTIMORE — As rain washed over Camden Yards, Brandon Workman found his happy place underneath the stadium seating bowl. Workman maintained his pitching rhythm in a batting cage during the second of two rain delays. Upon his return, the right-hander was virtually unhittable. Workman allowed one single over 6 2-3 innings, and the Boston Red Sox beat Chris Tillman and the Baltimore Orioles 1-0 on Tuesday night for their second win in eight games. Mike Napolis third-inning RBI single was all the offence the Red Sox needed to come out on the positive end of a pitchers duel for the first time this season. Boston was 0-18 when scoring fewer than three runs. Workman (1-0) walked one and struck out four in earning his first win as a starter since last July. He held the Orioles hitless until Ryan Flaherty lined a soft single to centre with two outs in the sixth. Workman had to overcome two stoppages, both in the second inning. The first lasted 15 minutes, the second 1:18. “It wasnt that bad,” Workman said. “I went down and threw in the batting cage a little bit to stay loose, to stay ready.” After retiring Nick Markakis to end the sixth inning, Workman got two straight outs in the seventh before being lifted. It was the longest outing of a 27-game career that includes seven starts. “He was outstanding, especially in light of the two different rain delays,” Boston manager John Farrell said. “He was able to stay loose with a couple of almost simulated innings in the batting cage.” Workman retired the first 13 batters before Nelson Cruz drew a walk. J.J. Hardy followed with a popup to second base, and Cruz took off for second and was easily doubled up. “Its no excuse,” Cruz said. “I should know better. It shouldnt have happened.” Earlier, Boston third baseman Xander Bogaerts robbed the Orioles of two potential hits in the third inning. He snagged a bunt by David Lough and threw out the fleet runner, then made a diving stab of a line drive by Flaherty. The no-hit bid gained steam later, but Workman said, “I was not really thinking about it. I was just trying to stay in the moment and keep executing pitches and keep working each batter. Not getting ahead of myself.” Workman will have a hearing Friday on his appeal of a six-game suspension. He was suspended after the league determined he was intentionally throwing in the “head area” of Tampa Bays Evan Longoria on May 30. If he is forced to miss time, Workman certainly went out on a high note. “Honestly, when we started back up, I thought if he got through four innings that might be enough for tonight,” Farrell said. “But as efficient as he was, as strong as he was, he just kept putting up zeroes and retiring guys consecutively so we continued to stay with him.” Baltimores only other hit was a single by Steve Pearce in the ninth off Koji Uehara, who earned his 13th save. Tillman (5-3) gave up one run and seven hits in six innings. It was his first loss in six starts since May 11. “Tough conditions tonight for both teams but you wont hear any excuses from us,” the right-hander said Manny Machado started at third base for the Orioles despite receiving a five-game suspension and a fine for intentionally throwing his bat in Sundays game against Oakland. Machado appealed the suspension, batted second and went 0 for 4, making the final out on a strikeout. Tillman got off to a rocky start following the second rain delay. Brock Holt led off the third with a single, David Ortiz walked and Napoli delivered a two-out, opposite-field RBI single to right. Boston used three straight singles to load the bases with no outs in the fourth. Tillman struck out Holt, then got Bogaerts to bounce into a 6-4-3 double play. Over the first four innings, the Red Sox had seven hits and three walks but scored only the one run after stranding seven and hitting into two double plays. Téma: Jak postupovat / aid later in the evening VIENNA, Va. — Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis was charged Thursday with driving while intoxicated, a day after he was suspended for an NFL substance-abuse policy violation. Davis, 28, was stopped in Tysons Corner about 4 p.m. Thursday and arrested, Fairfax County Police said. Police spokeswoman Shelley Broderick declined to discuss why Davis was stopped. A court date has not been set. The NFL announced Wednesday that Davis was suspended indefinitely without pay. Davis, who will become a free agent next month, said in a statement Thursday that the suspension resulted from taking a supplement that contained a banned substance, not recreational drug use, which prompted his 2011 suspension. Court records show nearly three dozen traffic-related charges against Davis in recent years. Specifically, court records in Fairfax, Loudoun and Arlington counties and Fairfax City show 34 charges from 23 separate incidents going back to 2008, the year the Redskins drafted Davis in the second round. Twenty-one of the charges resulted in convictions, including a speeding charge for 82 mph in a 50 zone, driving on a suspended license, and numerous charges for improperly tinted windows. The count does not include dozens of charges for failing to pay tolls, and none of the previous charges includes any allegations of drunken driving. A lawyer who has represented Davis on some of his most recent charges, Mark Dycio, was not immediately available for comment Friday morning. About an hour later, Reid was sporting an Olympic-sized grin. The winner had been disqualified after the race due to a sled handle violation. That moved everyone up one position and put Reid into sixth place, which allowed her to book her ticket to Sochi. “Its crazy,” Reid said. “I feel like it hasnt really sunk in yet.” American Noelle Pikus-Pace finished first in the womens race in one minute 54.88 seconds but her disqualification gave the gold to Britains Elizabeth Yarnold, who finished 0.16 seconds behind. Russias Elena Nikitina earned silver in 1:55.28 and Michelle Steele of Australia took bronze in 1:55.30. Eric Neilson of Kelowna, B.C., also booked his Olympic ticket with a fifth-place result in the mens race at Canada Olympic Park. Neilson also said the Sochi news hasnt sunk in. “Not even close,” he said with a laugh. “I dont know if Ill actually believe it until the coaches say, This is our Olympic team. Eric Neilson youre on it — go.” There will be two more World Cup events before the Olympic skeleton roster is officially unveiled Dec. 18. Racers need four top-six finishes over two seasons to qualify for the Sochi Games, but at least one has to come in the current campaign. Bobsledders Jesse Lumsden and Chris Spring reached the podium later in the evening, winning bronze in the two-man event. “I think we both agree were happy, were not satisfied,” Lumsden said. “My goal as a pusher is to help Chris have top-three starts every race all year long. So this was a great way to set the tone.” Lumsden, from Burlington, Ont., and Spring, from Calgary, were third in 1:49.42. Americans Steven Holcomb and Steve Langton won gold in 1:49.22, just 0.16 seconds ahead of Switzerlands Beat Hefti and Alex Baumann. In the mens skeleton, Martin Dukurs of Latvia set a track record of 55.31 seconds on his second run and earned the mens gold with a two-run time of 1:51.39. Dukurs was well ahead of Alexander Tretiakov of Russia, who finished in 1:52.14. Britains Dominic Edward Parsons won bronze in 1:52.74. Neilson tied his career-best finish at a World Cup. He finished fourth at the world championships last season. Dukurs trimmed over four-10ths of a second off the previous track record (55.72) set by Canadas Jeff Pain in February 2005. The Latvian won the overall World Cup title last season. The track push record also fell Friday. Tretiakovs first start time of 4.75 seconds was a shade better than his previous best of 4.dddddddddddd76 from November 2005. The Russian improved his mark again with a 4.71 in the second run. Calgary-based racers Dave Greszczyszyn and John Fairbairn also finished in the top 10. Greszczyszyn was sixth in his World Cup debut in 1:53.06 and Fairbairn was ninth in 1:53.17. In the womens race, officials ruled that Pikus-Pace violated Rule 14.5 by racing with additional handles on her sled. Heinz Thoma, a FIBT World Cup co-ordinator, said another team first noticed the violation and pointed it out to an official. “They look at each other carefully,” Thoma said. “Were on the way to (the) Olympics.” The FIBT is the sanctioning body for bobsled and skeleton. The sled was inspected and the official results were released about an hour after the race finish. Thomas said about one-third of the sleds are usually inspected after a race, adding that violations occur from time to time. He couldnt recall the last time a violation affected a World Cup race winner. Pikus-Pace later told The Associated Press that the British team complained about an extra piece of tape that was wrapped around the handle. The sled — and the tape — had both been approved for competition earlier in the week, Pikus-Pace said, and U.S. officials were appealing the disqualification. “Clearly, clearly, I should not have been disqualified,” Pikus-Pace told the AP in a phone interview. “Im so frustrated. People get away with whatever and I get disqualified for a piece of tape? A piece of tape that they said was OK? It has no competitive advantage whatsoever.” Rule 14.5 states that the saddle handles must be mounted on the construction frame, and that “no additional handles, howsoever they are constructed, are permitted on the saddle.” A race official said later in the evening that the appeal would not be entertained and that the decision was final. Reid, who won bronze at the 2013 world championship, was just over a half-second off the lead with a time of 1:55.56. Calgarys Robynne Thompson was eighth and Cassie Hawrysh of Brandon, Man., was 10th. Mellisa Hollingsworth of Eckville, Alta., and 2010 Olympic champion Jon Montgomery of Russell, Man., will open the season on the Intercontinental Cup circuit. Athletes can qualify for Sochi while competing on that circuit or at the World Cup level. Lyndon Rush of Humboldt, Sask., and Calgarys Lascelles Brown were eighth in the two-man bobsled. Justin Kripps of Summerland, B.C., and Bryan Barnett of Calgary were 12th. The four-man bobsled and womens bobsled events were set for Saturday. ’ ’ ’ |

You can catch all of the action on TSN Jets and TSN 1290 at 7pm ct. Winnipeg continues to lose ground in the Western Conference playoff race as it sits six points out of the second wild card position. The Jets snapped a six- game slide with a 7-2 win over Dallas on Sunday, but fell in defeat the following night 3-1 to the St. Louis Blues. Eric ODell scored the Jets lone goal and the clubs were tied until the Blues David Backes scored a power-play goal with 6:51 to play. Winnipeg went down a man when Evander Kane went off for slashing. “We just cant be in the box there,” Winnipeg head coach Paul Maurice said of Kanes penalty, which occurred in the offensive zone. “Thats the bottom line on that play.” Al Montoya allowed two goals on 25 shots for the Jets. It is unknown when Ondrej Pavelec will be ready to return from a lower-body injury, so Montoya will get the start again tonight. He has good numbers versus the Avalanche, going 2-1-2 with a 2.14 GAA and one shutout. Dustin Byfuglien will miss his first game of the season tonight due to a lower-body injury. Head coach Paul Maurice hopes hell be able to play Saturday against Carolina. Eric Tangradim, who has been a healthy scratch for the last four games, replaces Byfuglien. The Avs are coming off just their third setback in the past 10 games, losing in head coach Patrick Roys return to Montreal. Roy starred for the Canadiens franchise for 10-plus seasons before a trade to the Avalanche in 1995 and received a warm reception during the game. The home cheers eventually went to Montreals Thomas Vanek, who notched a hat trick to help hand Colorado a 6-3 loss. Jamie McGinn had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who also got goals from Nathan MacKinnon and Maxime Talbot. Jean-Sebastien Giguere turned aside 30-of-35 shots. “I didnt want them to feel pressure of winning a hockey game for their coach. Its all about our team here,” Roy said. The Avs fell into a tie with the Chicago Blackhawks for second place in the Central Division, eight points back of the first-place St. Louis Blues. Theyll try to avoid losing two straight for the first time since Feb. 4-6. Reto Berra, the third goaltender on Colorados roster, will get the start tonight and it will be his first with the Avalanche since they acquired him from the Calgary Flames. Berra, signed to a three-year extension by the Avs last Friday, was 9-17-2 with a 2.95 goals against average in 29 games (27 starts) with the Flames. That includes a 1-1-0 mark versus the Jets with a 4.32 GAA. The Avs have won three of four versus the Jets this season, including a 4-3 shootout decision on Dec. 12 in the lone encounter in Winnipeg. SAN FRANCISCO — Cuban defector Odrisamer Despaigne made fired San Diego general manager Josh Byrnes look good in his sterling major league debut. Despaigne became the fourth Padres pitcher to throw seven scoreless innings in his first big league start, leading San Diego to a 6-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. “He pitched great didnt he?” Padres manager Bud Black asked. “Are you kidding me? That was great.” Tommy Medica hit a two-run double off Matt Cain (1-6) after the umpires took away a three-run home run by Yasmani Grandal on a replay review to give the crafty Despaigne (1-0) the support he needed. Despaigne, who defected from Cuba last summer, got the win less than two months after Byrnes signed him to a minor league deal. Byrnes was fired Sunday so he didnt get the chance to benefit from the decision. Despaigne had a 6.03 ERA in seven minor league starts in his first season as a professional after defecting from Cuba last summer. “It took me for surprise to be here,” he said through an interpreter. “It was a dream come true.” Despaigne kept the Giants off-balance all game by changing his arm angle and mixing in big, slow curveballs with his harder pitches. He allowed four hits and became the seventh pitcher in the past 100 years to throw at least seven scoreless innings with no walks in his first career start. Despaigne had the element of surprise in his favour as the Giants had not even seen him pitch in spring training. “At this point in the year youve kind of seen everything but he was just on,” right fielder Hunter Pence said. “He was locating, he had the ball moving a lot of different directions. He threw me pretty much everything. He didnt really leave too much over the plate. I think he just mixed it up the whole game.” The Giants lost for the 10th time in 13 games. Neither team had a hit in the first three innings before the Padres got to Cain in the fourth. The rally started when Everth p;Cabrera reached on a one-out infield single and advanced to third on Seth Smiths single.dddddddddddd One out later, Grandal hit a drive to right-centre that initially appeared to clear the wall for a three-run homer. But Pence immediately signalled that a fan interfered on the play and ran toward the umpires to protest. The umpires called for a video review and the play was changed to a double with Smith being sent back to third base even though he most likely would have scored easily from first on a two-out hit to the deepest part of the stadium. Black ran out of the dugout to challenge the ruling and was immediately ejected by crew chief Brian ONora. “I just thought the logical thing to do was have Smitty score,” Black said. “I was in disbelief when they placed him at third base.” The call became moot when Medica followed with a two-run double to make it 3-0 as Cain struggled once again. The Padres tacked on three runs in the eighth with an RBI single by Cabrera, a run-scoring double to Smith and a throwing error by Pence. Cain allowed six runs and seven hits in 7 1-3 innings and has just one win in 12 starts this season. “Ive been throwing the ball good but I havent been making the pitch that I need to here and there to shut down an inning,” Cain said. “I need to do a better job of doing that. I think everything else will work itself out but Ive got to make those pitches.” NOTES: There was a pregame video tribute to Padres Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, who died last week at age 54. Téma: Jak postupovat / e Red Raiders their first lead since earl KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – Maria Sharapova needed nine match points before she finally closed out a win Saturday in the third round of the Sony Open, beating Lucie Safarova 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-2. No. 1-ranked Serena Williams won a marathon, too, taking 2 1/2 hours to eliminate Caroline Garcia 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Mens No. 1 Rafael Nadal began a bid for his first Key Biscayne title by beating Lleyton Hewitt 6-1, 6-3. Sharapova had two match points in the tiebreaker, and seven more in the final game. The No. 26-seeded Safarova stayed alive with a succession of vital winners. “She kept hitting unbelievable shots,” Sharapova said. “One more. One more. I said, How many chances are you going to get?” With the capacity crowd in a frenzy, a long exchange on the final point ended with Safarova pushing a weary forehand into the net. She then shared a hug with Sharapova. The match took three hours and ended at 10 p.m. to conclude an 11-hour day session on the stadium court, with two night-session matches yet to come. “After a match like that, its tough to have only one winner,” Sharapova said, “because both players give a lot and both want to win so much.” Williams match was a thriller, too. A succession of long rallies left her grunting, stumbling, lunging, squealing, flailing her arms and scolding herself. Despite all the drama and trauma, she moved one round closer to a record seventh Key Biscayne title. Williams is playing in her first tournament after a monthlong layoff, and rustiness might explain her 41 unforced errors, including seven double-faults. And the 20-year-old Garcia kept Williams on her heels with deep groundstrokes and serves that topped out at 117 mph. “I can play a hundred times better,” Williams said. “I really gave myself a tremendous amount of trouble out there. Djokovics next match will be Tuesday. Stanislas Wawrinka bounced back from his first loss of the year by beating Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-0, 3-6, 6-3. No. 7 Tomas Berdych joined Wawrinka in the third round by beating Stephane Robert 7-6 (5), 6-1. No. 10-seeded John Isner rallied to win an all-American matchup against Donald Young, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4. Isner is back in the top 10 this week for the first time in 18 months. Sam Querrey, Ryan Harrison and Jack Sock lost second-round matches. That left Isner as the lone remaining American in the mens draw, reflecting the state of U.S. tennis. Williams and Garcia engaged in a succession of side-to-side baseline exchanges that had the stadium crowd roaring. But she finished in a hurry, serving out the final game at love with the help of consecutive aces. Reigning Wimbledon champion Andy Murray has predicted that Garcia will someday climb to No. 1, but the Frenchwoman is now 0-3 against Williams. “Its always nice to play against a big player,” Garcia said. “You are working and practicing to play this match, because its in this kind of match you can learn more. But next time I prefer to win.” Williams is playing for the 14th time at Key Biscayne, an hour from her home in Palm Beach Gardens. The freshman from Vaughan, Ont., finished with 19 points and Joel Embiid matched his career high with 18 to lead the Jayhawks (20-6, 11-2). The victory for Kansas gave them 20 wins for the 25th consecutive season and 11 or more conference wins for 20th-straight year. Texas Techs Robert Turner sank two free throws with 16 seconds left to put the Red Raiders up 63-62 but Kansas brought the ball up and got it inside to Wiggins for the win. Jordan Tolbert scored 16 points and Dejan Kravic added 13 to lead Texas Tech (13-13, 5-8). The win gives the Jayhawks a two-game lead in the Big 12 after Texas fell 85-76 at Iowa State on Tuesday night. The score was tied nine times and the lead changed 13 times. Kansas held a 10-point lead early in the game but Texas Tech started hammering the ball inside to make the game tight throughout. Tolbert hit a bucket as the shot clock expired with 2:51 left to put the Red Raiders up 59-55. But Wayne Seldon, Jr. hit a clutch 3-pointer to pull within 59-58. Turner answered with a bucket and Embiid sank two free throws to make it 61-60 with 1:22 left. On the Red Raiders next possessiion a scrum for the ball led to a jump call and Kansas ball.dddddddddddd Embiid dunked it to put the Jayhawks up 62-61. Thats when Turner hit his free throws and Kansas called a time out to draw up the play to Wiggins for the win. Kansas scored 22 points from the free throw line, while Texas Tech got just nine. Texas Tech came out after halftime and hit four of its first five shots, while Kansas got only one bucket in four attempts, allowing the Red Raiders their first lead since early in the game, 37-32. Jordan Tolbert capped Texas Techs 8-2 run before Kansas started playing offence. But the Red Raiders effective defence against the Jayhawks also brought foul trouble. With more than 13 minutes remaining, Jaye Crockett, Kravic and Kader Tapsoba each had three fouls. Texas Tech sent the Jayhawks to the line often in the second half. Five free throws — by Jamari Traylor and Wiggins — on three possessions pulled Kansas within 46-45 with about 11 minutes remaining. But the Jayhawks regained the lead for the first time in 11 minutes, 52-51, on a pair of free throws by Naadir Tharpe with 7:14 remaining. But with Kravic back in and after a turnover by Tharpe, the 7-foot senior tied the score at 53 on a layup with 5:34 left. ’ ’ ’ |

Schmidt, a Phillies TV analyst for Sunday games, retrieved Rollins bat after the milestone single to right off right-hander Edwin Jackson. He greeted Rollins with a high-five and hug at first base. The entire Phillies team then came out from the dugout to offer congratulatory hugs and handshakes. Once the Phillies left the field, Schmidt took Rollins hand and held it in the air to the cheers. The pair was then given a standing ovation as fireworks erupted from the large video board in left field. The 35-year-old Rollins received a loud ovation when he came to the plate his first two times up Saturday, but he grounded out to first on the second pitch he saw in the first inning and lined out sharply to first in the second. The switch-hitter led off the fifth batting from the left side and drove Jacksons 3-1 offering sharply into right field for his record-setting hit. Rollins was drafted in the second round of the 1996 draft and made his debut with the Phillies on Sept. 17, 2000. He got his first hit that day, a triple off Chuck Smith, at Veterans Stadium. In 15 years with the Phillies, the 5-foot-8 shortstop has won four Gold Gloves, made three All-Star teams and was the 2007 NL MVP. He was a member of the clubs 2008 World Series championship team. Rollins already tops Philadelphias doubles list with 466, and he is in the top 10 of nearly every offensive category in club history. He entered Saturday second in extra-base hits (782), total bases (3,539), games (2,014), at-bats (8,327), and third in steals (435), runs (1,280) and triples (109). Rollins is one of 19 players in major league history with at least 400 doubles, 100 triples and 200 home runs. He is fourth all-time with 46 leadoff homers. The 37-year-old defender officially retired after the Montreal Impact was eliminated from the Major League Soccer playoffs, although he missed the 3-0 loss in Houston last week with an injury. Joining his teammates at a season-ending news conference on Wednesday was perhaps his last act as a player. “Im very happy because my body is tired,” said Nesta. "I think its time to finish. “Twenty years at a high level — I was lucky. I won a lot of trophies. And this is the perfect time to say stop. Ill start a new life with my family, another job. I dont know.” Nesta got a standing ovation as he was feted before the Impacts final home game of the season Oct. 19. He left late in the 2-1 win over Philadelphia with a calf injury. He had earlier announced that the 2013 campaign would be his last. He will move to his house in Miami and hopes to become a coach one day, although he denied a report that he would replace Marco Schallibaum as the Impacts bench boss. The Rome native, a boyhood friend of Montreal striker Marco Di Vaio, joined the Impact on July 5, 2012 on a free transfer after a decade with Italian giant AC Milan. He joined Lazios youth academy in 1985 and began his pro career with the Roman club, but went to AC Milan on a 30-million Euro transfer in 2002. He won the first of two Champions League titles that season. He played 78 times for Italy and was part of the 2006 World Cup champions, although he didnt play beyond the group stage due to an injury. Nesta was named to the EUFA team of the year, an all-star team for European players, four times, and was considered by many as the best defender of his generation. Asked about his experience in MLS, Nesta said it still needs work to be a top league. “For me, the problem in this league is we have to improve tactically,” he said. "Every team. “In Europe, you work every day on tactics, and when you play you feel better sometimes. Here the (Swiss) coach Schallibaum did good work. We have to go in this direction. Wade is MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins have outrighted left-hander Scott Diamond and outfielder Chris Parmelee to Triple-A Rochester, ensuring that veteran Jason Bartlett will make the team out of spring training. The Twins announced the moves on Thursday after both Diamond and Parmelee cleared waivers. Diamond had a 5.29 ERA in 17 innings during spring training and lost the competition for the fifth spot in the rotation to right-hander Kyle Gibson. Parmelee hit .195 with one home run in 41 at-bats and failed to impress while competing for a backup outfielder spot. The Twins decided to go with Bartlett as the teams utility player. whole… jerseys . — The new starting quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs is a former first-round draft pick on a one-year deal whose career thus far has been a disappointment.MIAMI – The last time Dwyane Wade played in an NBA Finals game, he needed fluid drained from his left knee and eight hours of intense game-day therapy just to get into uniform. The Miami Heat guard later described it in a single word. “Hell,” Wade said. It was also worth it, after he scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and hoisted his third Larry OBrien Trophy. Now, unlike last year, Wade is not dealing with any injuries heading into the Miamis finals rematch against the San Antonio Spurs. At 32 years old and with 866 NBA games already on his playing odometer, Wade still deals with plenty of aches and pains, good days and bad days, and basically has a standing appointment in the Heat training room. But compared to last seasons NBA Finals, his knees are good as new. “Hes a big-time, huge piece to our puzzle,” four-time NBA MVP and Heat star LeBron James said. “To have him out there in the groove that hes in right now, its going to help us.” The Heat are looking to win their third straight title and Wade is on the cusp of joining a list of all-time NBA greats. There are just seven players with four championships and at least one NBA Finals MVP award on their resumes: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, John Havlicek, Magic Johnson, Shaquille ONeal, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and the Spurs Tim Duncan. Wade could be the eighth person in that club. “We just want to continue to add to what were accomplishing,” Wade said. Almost forgotten amid all the memories of Wade limping about during last years playoffs — he whacked what was his “good” knee at this time last year, the surgically repaired left one, in a collision with the Spurs Manu Ginobili during Game 6 of the finals — is he had big games when Miami needed him. Through his first 14 games of the 2013 playoffs, Wade was averaging 13.6 points. In the final eight games of that post-season run, starting with Game 7 against Indiana, he averaged 19.8 points. And in the last four games of the finals, he averaged 23.5 points against the Spurs to close the series. As his knees got worse, Wade seemed to gget better.dddddddddddd “He still found a way last year,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “He really did. He had some of his biggest games not only in the finals, but Game 7, we didnt think necessarily he was going to even play that game in the Eastern Conference finals.” This year, the Heat tried to leave nothing to chance with Wades health. The so-called maintenance plan for Wade — limiting his minutes to save his knees — kicked in on the second night of the regular season. He wound up missing 28 games in all, mostly because of that rest-and-rehab scheme, to ensure that he would be good to go in the playoffs. The results cant be argued. Wade is averaging 18.7 points on 52 per cent shooting, Miami is 12-3 in the playoffs and when getting more than three days rest — like the Heat will have before Game 1 in San Antonio on Thursday night — the perennial All-Star has had games of 23, 14, 27 and 23 points on a combined 60 per cent shooting. “Dwyane is playing great,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said Tuesday. “He looks a lot more spry and ready to go then he did last year in the finals.” Maybe the biggest payoff of the regular-season maintenance plan has been how Wade has closed games in this post-season. Wade is shooting 56 per cent in fourth quarters during the playoffs, the best clip of his career and the best percentage of any guard with more than 30 shots in the final period of post-season games this season. San Antonios Danny Green is second on that list, shooting just under 49 per cent. Wade doesnt like talking about his place in history. But he knows what rarefied air he would be entering with a fourth title run. “I think weve all put ourselves in great situations, and were just going to continue to try to enjoy this moment that were in because its an amazing moment,” Wade said. “Its something that, for a lifetime, is going to fulfil us as athletes. Even when we cant play this game, were going to always be able to talk about this.” And now, when talking about his health, Wade has another one-word answer: “Better.” ’ ’ ’ |

Téma: Jak postupovat / Jameson scored for the Canadians (1-1-3), who LOS ANGELES — Zack Greinke and Jhoulys Chacin both had to grind through six innings Tuesday night. The difference for the Los Angeles Dodgers was the home run ball. Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run shot against Chacin before leaving with a hand injury, and Greinke got some critical outs with runners in scoring position during a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Matt Kemp also went deep and Carlos Triunfel hit his first major league home run after replacing Ramirez. Greinke (9-3) threw a season-high 117 pitches over six innings, allowing a run and three hits with five strikeouts and two walks. “It was definitely a tough game,” said Greinke, who tied St. Louis Adam Wainwright and Cincinnatis Alfredo Simon for the NL lead in wins. “It seemed like they had guys on base every inning. There were a lot of foul balls on two-strike counts where they just kept fighting it off. So it gets really tough.” Ramirez, a three-time All-Star shortstop and the 2009 NL batting champion, left in the seventh with a bruised ring finger on his right hand after Corey Dickersons hard grounder to him deflected into short centre field for an RBI double that trimmed the Dodgers lead to 3-2. “That was a rocket — kind of an in-between hop to Hanley,” said Rockies manager Walt Weiss, who played 1,397 games at shortstop in the majors and 37 of them at Dodger Stadium. “Theres not much you can do there as a shortstop. You hope that you can smother it if it falls at your feet, but that ball was hit so hard, theres not a lot that Hanley could do on that one.” X-rays on Ramirezs throwing hand were negative. “Thats great news for us. We obviously dodged a big bullet,” catcher A.J. Ellis said. “Hanleys probably the biggest part of our lineup when were going right. He carried us last year, and I feel like hes getting close to that point where he can carry us again. Hes definitely one of the best bats in all of baseball, and well be happy to get him back whenever hes ready.” Triunfel took over at shortstop and reliever J.P. Howell gave way to Brandon League. The Rockies loaded the bases, but League retired Wilin Rosario on a grounder to third. Triunfel provided an insurance run against Tommy Kahnle with a towering drive that landed in the lower seats in the left-field corner. Brian Wilson pitched a scoreless eighth and Kenley Jansen got three outs for his 20th save, the third straight season that the former catcher has reached that figure. Chacin (1-5) gave up three runs, seven hits and three walks in six innings. The right-hander escaped a bases-loaded jam in the sixth when he retired pinch-hitter Justin Turner on a popup. “I knew he didnt want to come out of that game. I just went out there to check with him and make sure he was OK,” Weiss said. “I wanted to let him try to get through that inning because he battled all night, so I felt he earned that. He stepped up and pitched his way through that inning.” Eleven members of the Los Angeles Kings escorted the Stanley Cup to Dodger Stadium for a pregame ceremony, four days after they won their second NHL championship in three years. The Dodgers posed with them for a group photo, then showed off their own “power play” as Ramirez hit a two-run homer in the third and Kemp led off the fourth with his seventh of the season. Greinke also received some defensive help. Rookie third baseman Miguel Rojas robbed Dickerson in the third with a skidding, backhanded stop down the line. Right fielder Yasiel Puig took away a potential bloop single from Rosario in the fourth with a diving grab after a long run. Greinke got through the first unscathed after giving up one-out singles by Dickerson and Troy Tulowitzki. The Rockies loaded the bases with none out in the sixth, but all they got off Greinke was a sacrifice fly from Rosario. “Zack competed. They really battled him hard and he really grinded through some tough innings,” Ellis said. “That was huge for us. That inning could have spiraled out of control and really depleted our bullpen.” NOTES: Conn Smythe Trophy winner Justin Williams and his now clean-shaven Kings teammates took batting practice, fielded grounders and shagged flies. Each player threw a ceremonial first pitch simultaneously to a corresponding Dodger. After that, Kings defenceman Willie Mitchell carried the Cup over to the Rockies dugout, where he posed with Canadian-born 1B Justin Morneau. … Rockies RHP Nick Masset began serving the three-game suspension he received from Major League Baseball on Tuesday for throwing at Atlanta catcher Evan Gattis last Thursday. Masset also was fined an undisclosed amount. … The Dodgers signed their first-round draft pick, RHP Grant Holmes, the 22nd overall selection out of Conway High School in South Carolina. He got a $2.5 million signing bonus. … Chacin was coming off a 10-3 victory against Atlanta in which he held the Braves to two hits over seven scoreless innings. … Ramirez came in 0 for 9 against Chacin, who had allowed four homers in 45 2-3 innings over his eight previous starts this season. Téma: Jak postupovat / season-high six home runs, The Ottawa Senators snapped the Winnipeg Jets win streak at three, extending a streak of their own to that same number. Al Montoya suffered the loss, just his first in his last seven decisions. Ottawa opened the scoring at 13:34 on a goal by Mika Zibanejad, getting his 10th off a scramble at the side of the Jets net. But 2:03 later the Jets tied the game with a Dustin Byfuglien shot going off an Ottawa player and in. Anthony Peluso and James Wright had the assists. Peluso for the first time in his career has points in back to back games. The Senators regained the lead in the final minute of the first with Milan Michalek getting his seventh. The Jets outshot the Sens 13-10 in the period. Evander Kane got the Jets even at 1:32 of the second, scoring from the goal line after Craig Anderson made a great save on Jacob Trouba, coming on a great rush by the 19-year-old defenceman. Michael Frolik grabbed the other assist. It was Kanes fifth goal in nine games since returning from injury, while the assist for Trouba extended his point streak to four (1-3-4) and gives him 10 points in his last 15 games. The Jets had a great chance to take the lead on a great move in tight by Peluso, only to have the chip shot at the open net hit the cross bar. Shots in the second were even at 10-10. In a wild third period, the Jets again a great chance to take the lead, but a Chris Thorburn shot went off the post. Only seconds later Montoya stopped Cory Conacher on a breakaway, but off of the ensuing face-off, Zach Smith scored his fourth in six games to give Ottawa the lead. Clarke MacArthur made it a two-goal game as the Jets turned it over in their own end, but Olli Jokinen, with his 10th, again got the Jets to within one when he converted a pass from Byfuglien. Toby Enstrom also drew an assist on the goal. But that was as close as the Jets would get as the Senators hung on for the victory. The Jets outshot the Sens 12-9 in the third and 35-29 in the game. The line of Mark Scheifele with Kane and Frolik was the Jets best line, combining for 12 shots on goal with five each from Scheifele and Kane. The Bryan Little-Andrew Ladd-Blake Wheeler line, on the other hand, was held in check with Little the only member of the unit to get a shot on goal. Of the 35 shots, the Jets got 19 from defencemen. Mark Stuart had four shots on goal, seven hits and five blocked shots. Enstrom led in ice time at 24:07. For the first time this season the Jets did not have a power play. “It was a sloppy start to the game for us,” stated Jokinen post-game. “The goal late in the first period, we cant let them score there. Then its 2-2, Thorbs hits the post and, 10 seconds later, they score. We did not play as well as we have been lately.” Claude Noel felt mistakes hurt his team but they still had plenty of chances to win the game. “We played too much sideways in our zone," said the Jets coach. "We hit the post, dont get the shot through from the point, lose a face off in our zone, seeing-eye shot and were down. We played a decent game but gave them too much. We had a lot of chances, even short-handed, where we never got a shot. We didnt get a lot of production from all of our lines. Disappointing for me that in the whole game we never got a power play. Hard to believe.” The Jets were to fly to Boston after the game, but the snow storm in the Boston area changed that. The Jets will now practice in Ottawa on Friday.
