TAMPA, Fla. — Martin St. Louis had a most memorable night. St. Louis scored two goals and added an assist after being honoured before the game, and the Tampa Bay Lightning stopped a four-game losing streak by beating the New York Rangers 5-0 on Monday night. “For us to pull out the game the way we did, and for him to contribute the way he did, a little storybook in there,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. St. Louis received a silver stick and other gifts during a ceremony for playing in his 1,000th NHL game last Tuesday at Los Angeles. He was the 286th to reach the milestone. “Its pretty emotional,” St. Louis said. "The whole presentation. See my kids, my wife, my parents. When they started the (tribute) video, I couldnt watch. I kind of lost it. “It was a special night, and to be able to win the game and contribute. Ill remember tonight for sure.” Ben Bishop had 37 saves and improved to 14-3-1 for the Lightning, who returned home after an 0-3-1 trip. Nikita Kucherov scored on the first shift of his first NHL game, and Teddy Purcell added a pair of goals to complete the scoring. The Rangers had their six-game, road-winning streak snapped. It was one short of matching the team record. New York won seven straight road games in a row in 1935 and 1978. “We turned the puck over a couple of times in the neutral zone and they made us pay,” Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said. “We were unable to make them pay, especially in the first period when we had quality chances.” Kucherov, recalled from Syracuse of the AHL on Sunday, put the Lightning up 1-0 from the left circle at 2:12 on his first NHL shot. St. Louis, who had just one goal in his previous 12 games, skated in from the right wing boards and lifted an in-close shot over goalie Henrik Lundqvist to make it 2-0 just 58 seconds later. While celebrating the goal, St. Louis stumbled to the ice. “I took a nice fall,” he said. “But I didnt really care. I was so excited to score.” St. Louis extended the lead to 3-0 with a breakaway goal at 3:12 of the second. The captain moved past Tampa Bay assistant coach Steve Thomas (933) into 92nd place on the NHL career points list with 936. “Guys like that rise to the occasion, and sure enough, he goes out there and scores two goals after that ceremony.” Bishop said. Purcell gave the Lightning a 4-0 lead with 3:08 left in the second. He also scored late in the third, with St. Louis getting an assist. Bishop stopped 17 shots during the first, including a low left circle drive by Chris Kreider in the opening minute, and made a post-to-post glove save on Anton Stralman late in the period. He has won all four games he has played against the Rangers, including two shutouts. Cam Talbot replaced Lundqvist, who gave up four goals on 22 shots, to start the third, but Talbots long shutout streak of 165 minutes, 27 seconds was broken. Talbot had posted shutouts in his previous two starts. “I wasnt able to come up with the saves,” Lundqvist said. New York is 1-11 when allowing the first goal. Both Rick Nash and Brad Richards finished the game minus-3. NOTES: Tampa Bay star Steven Stamkos is walking without crutches or a boot two weeks after breaking his right leg, which required surgery. The league announced Monday that Powers received 93 per cent of team, media and player votes.CINCINNATI, Ohio — Maybe its good this one got suspended. Gave everybody a chance to dry off a bit, catch their breath and let those unbelievable numbers start to sink in. Ten homers in only six innings. Three sets of back-to-back homers, tying a record. The most combined homers in a major league game since 2006. And the Pirates and Reds still have a long way to go. Neil Walker and Gaby Sanchez hit back-to-back homers twice, and the Pirates and Reds hit 10 in all before rain forced a suspension after six innings with the score tied 7-all Monday night. “I saw a lot of crazy stuff in Coors Field over the years,” said Pirates manager Clint Hurdle, who managed in Colorado for eight years. "I spent a lot of years there, saw a lot of homers, saw a lot of weather. “This was as good as any of that, jammed into one evening.” The shocking slugfest will resume on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the top of the seventh inning. Conditions are expected to be drier but much colder. Not that the weather seems to matter much when these two rivals get together. “Ive never seen anything like that,” Reds manager Bryan Price said. “The way we got started, one team going in front of the other with home runs. Ive seen a lot of home runs hit, but not in those conditions. You wouldnt imagine they would carry that far.” Pittsburgh hit six solo shots and Cincinnati had four homers, most of them into a heavy rain. Already, its the most homers in a major league game since 2006 and the most combined homers for a game in Great American Ball Parks 12-year history. Pittsburgh had three sets of back-to-back homers, only the third time thats happened in major league history. The game was suspended following a 1-hour, 38-minute delay, the second time in less than a year that a game was suspended in Cincinnati. The Reds and Phillies were scoreless last April 16 in the middle of the ninth inning when play was halted because of rain, and Cincinnati won 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth the following day. The Ohio River rivals were known more for trading hit-by-pitches last season. The Pirates and Reds plunked each other 28 times — most in the majors — while nailing down the two NL wild-card spots. Their first matchup of 2014 was more swing-away than get-out-of-the-way. Ten of the 17 combined hits so far have cleared the wall. All but one of the 14 runs has come on a homer. “It wouldnt be a Pittsburgh-Cincinnnati game without some drama,” Walker said.dddddddddddd Pittsburgh went back-to-back three times. Walker and Sanchez did it in the second inning off Homer Bailey and again in the sixth off J.J. Hoover. Starling Marte and Travis Snider teamed up in the fifth off Bailey. It was only the third time in major league history that a team had three sets of back-to-back homers in a game, according to STATS. The others: Cincinnati against the Braves in 1956, and Boston against the Yankees in 1977. “I certainly wouldnt think that I would find my way attached to a home run record,” Walker said. “The games not even over yet, so I dont know how to express whats going on. But thats pretty cool.” Both teams had a chance to take a lead with the rain coming down heavier and the field getting muddier. The starters and bullpens failed to hold on. Wandy Rodriguez gave up Joey Vottos two-out homer in the bottom of the fifth inning, putting Cincinnati up 6-5. The umpires inspected the infield, called for dry dirt and decided to continue. Walker and Sanchez connected again off Hoover for a 7-6 lead in the sixth. It was only the second time that two Pirates went back-to-back twice in a game, according to STATS. Toby Atwell and Jerry Lynch also did it against the Reds on April 27, 1954. Devin Mesoracos solo shot off Bryan Morris tied it at 7 in the bottom of the sixth. It was the first time since June 18, 2006, that two major league teams combined for 10 homers in a game — the Tigers hit eight and the Cubs three at Wrigley Field that day. Something about Great American turns the Pirates into power hitters. They also hit six homers in Cincinnati last Sept. 28 during an 8-3 win that clinched home-field advantage for the NL wild-card game. Then they beat the Reds at PNC Park in the one-game playoff. Pittsburgh has 14 homers in its last three games at Great American, four of them by Walker. NOTES: Several hundred dogs were in the stands with their owners as part of an annual pet promotion. … Hurdle said C Chris Stewart felt good after catching consecutive games in the minors as part of a rehab stint. Stewart had surgery on his right knee March 19. … Reds closer Aroldis Chapman threw 25 pitches in the bullpen before the game, the first time hes thrown off a mound since he was hit in the face by a line drive on March 19. The Reds hope to have him back next month. ’ ’ ’

WASHINGTON – Just when it appeared that the intensity of a playoff run was getting to be too much for the Washington Wizards, they pull off a solid win over the Indiana Pacers. And the Pacers? They played so poorly that it made this weeks win over the Miami Heat look more like an aberration in some late-season doldrums. John Wall scored 20 points, and Marcin Gortat added 17 points and 12 rebounds Friday night as the Wizards avenged two of their biggest losses of the season, never trailing in a 91-78 win over the cold-shooting, turnover-prone Pacers. “Were at the point where we cant just get up for the Miamis or the Chicago Bulls and then come out and get doughnuts against the Wizards or these other teams,” said David West, who committed four of Indianas 17 turnovers. “I just dont know if we are handling success and being out front the right way.” The Heat beat the Detroit Pistons on Friday night, essentially negating Indianas victory over Miami on Wednesday in the standings. The Pacers lead is back to two games atop the Eastern Conference. “The game Wednesday doesnt mean anything if we dont get the one tonight, and were back at square one,” Pacers guard George Hill said. “We gave up another game where we should have won.” The Wizards, meanwhile, sit sixth in the East and are almost certainly playoff-bound for the first time since 2008, but their recent uninspired play had led to questions as to whether young players Wall and Bradley Beal had the mettle for a post-season push. Washington had lost four of five, with games featuring wild swings and deficits too big to make up. “Our intensity level for 48 minutes had waned,” coach Randy Wittman said. “And wed lost that edge a little bit, in terms of we waited until we got down before we really played with effort and intensity.” Not so Friday night against the Pacers, who are responsible for two of Washingtons three losses by 20-plus points this season. This was one of those prove-yourself wins that counts a little extra. “They had our number the first two games,” Beal said. “They played way more physical than we did. They kind of did whatever they wanted to when they were at home, but once we got them here we did a great job of just hitting them — and we kept hitting them throughout the whole game.” Paul George scored 19 points, and Lance Stephenson had 13 points and matched a career-high with 14 rebounds for the Pacers, who have lost a season-high four straight road games. Indiana committed five turnovers in the first four minutes Friday and shot 35 per cent overall. By halftime, the Pacers were up to 10 turnovers. No. 11 came on the first possession of the second half, when centre Roy Hibbert threw the ball out of bounds. After scoring in the 70s only once in their first 69 games, the Pacers have held below 80 in three of their last four. “Im tired of talking about it,” said Hibbert, who went 3-for-8 from the field and had only two rebounds. “Weve been in this rut for a month. I dont know. Ive made my suggestions. You take one step forward and three steps back. One game, and then we play like this. … Weve talked about that for great length amongst ourselves, private team meetings, all that (stuff), and I dont know.” The Pacers finished 2-for-13 from 3-point range. Stephenson went 3-for-13 and missed all five of his 3-pointers. George was 6-for-22 and was unhappy he didnt get more calls. “Its just crazy,” George said. “We played against a team the other night where if you breathe on the guy (LeBron James) you know he went to the line. Im not saying Im that calibre player, but its just frustrating.” As poorly as the Pacers played, the Wizards didnt truly pull away until late in the third quarter. Trevor Ariza and Martell Webster hit 3-pointers in a 10-0 run that made the score 77-56 early in the fourth. Ariza finished just 2 for 12 from the field, and Bradley Beal was 2 for 13. “We guarded our butts off,” Beal said. “We didnt necessarily shoot it too well, but we definitely defended.” NOTES: Beal played 35 minutes despite suffering a hip pointer in Wednesdays loss to the Phoenix Suns. … Al Harrington accounted for all of the points in a 10-0 run by the Wizards over 2 1/2 minutes in the second quarter. OKLAHOMA CITY — San Antonio fought off Father Time, the league MVP and an injury to its best player to return to the NBA Finals. The Spurs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 112-107 in overtime Saturday night in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals to set up a rematch with the Miami Heat. San Antonio will host Game 1 on Thursday night and will try to avenge last years heartbreaking loss. San Antonio led Miami 3-2 before losing Game 6 in overtime, then dropping Game 7. “People keep talking like we werent close to winning, but we were ready to win last year,” Spurs centre Tim Duncan said. “Were happy its the Heat again. Weve got that bad taste in our mouths still.” A trio of 30-somethings led the way for the Spurs. Duncan had 19 points and 15 rebounds, Boris Diaw scored 26 points and Manu Ginobili chipped in 15 points and six rebounds for the Spurs. San Antonio pulled this one out despite All-Star point guard Tony Parker missing the entire second half and overtime with left ankle soreness. Popovich said Parker had been struggling with the ankle since Game 4 of the series. The Spurs overcame it the way they have for more than a decade — with teamwork, passing and great performances by role players. “We didnt know how much Tony was hurt in his ankle,” Diaw said. “But we didnt want to go to Game 7, and we didnt know if he would be ready to play if we did or if he would be 100 per cent, so we tried to get it over with tonight.” It was the third-best playoff scoring effort of Diaws 11-year career and his best since 2006. “Boris was amazing,” Duncan said. “He had an unbelievable game. Hes had a great series.” Russell Westbrook had 34 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and six steals, and MVP Kevin Durant added 31 points and 14 rebounds for the Thunder. But Oklahoma City committed 20 turnovers that led to 33 points for the Spurs. Westbrook and Durant each had seven turnovers. “We started settling for too many jump shots,” Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. “It just seemed like we couldnt get enough good looks at the basket. Defensively, they just had us scrambling around.” San Antonio also handled Serge&nbbsp;Ibakas return from injury.dddddddddddd Oklahoma Citys defensive star missed the first two games with a strained left calf, but he returned to help the Thunder win the next two games and tie the series. The series featured five blowouts wins by the home teams, but the closeout game was a gem. Oklahoma City overcame a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime. “I have to be honest, this victory is really sweet because we know we played one hell of a team, and we take great satisfaction in that since theyre so special,” San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. In overtime, Duncans shot from the baseline rattled in to give the Spurs a 110-107 lead with 19 seconds to go. Durant missed a good look at a 3-pointer, and the Spurs rebounded and went to the line. Diaw missed the first and made the second free throw to make it a four-point lead for the Spurs. Westbrook missed a wild 3-pointer, and Spurs wrapped it up. San Antonio led by 12 early in the fourth quarter, but the Thunder chipped away at the free throw line after getting the Spurs into foul trouble. Back-to-back baskets by Westbrook and Durant cut San Antonios lead to 93-91 with 4:01 to play, leading to the frantic final minutes. Westbrook was fouled on a drive with 9.3 seconds to play. He made both free throws to tie the score at 101. Ginobilis fadeaway at the free-throw line against Westbrook missed, and the game went to overtime. Ginobili said the Thunder were a significant hurdle, and he expects them to be a roadblock in the future. “They are a pretty good team,” he said. “They have so much talent, so much athleticism, so much future. They are a tough team.” Notes: The Spurs had just two assists and missed all five of their 3-point attempts in the first quarter. … Spurs C Matt Bonner started for the second straight game. He made just 1 of 5 3-pointers in the first half as the Thunder backed off of him. … Westbrook had four steals in the first half. … Thunder coach Scott Brooks was issued a technical foul in the third quarter. … Westbrook made his first 10 free throws and 17 of 18 overall. … Thunder G Derek Fisher, 39, played every minute of the fourth quarter and overtime. ’ ’ ’

CHICAGO — Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin has surgery Tuesday to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder and will be out 4-5 months. The Blackhawks called the surgery successful, and said the procedure was performed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Team Dr. Michael Terry says the injury was becoming problematic, but a full recovering is expected. The 40-year-old Khabibulin has played in four games with the Blackhawks this season (1-0-1). SAN ANTONIO — Steven Bowditch opened a three-stroke lead Saturday in the Texas Open, while Phil Mickelson withdrew after 10 holes because of a pulled muscle in his right side. Bowditch, the 30-year-old Australian seeking his first PGA Tour title, shot a 4-under 68 to reach 12 under at TPC San Antonio. Matt Kuchar and Andrew Loupe were tied for second. Kuchar shot 65, and Loupe had a 70. “Ive won four or five times on between Australia and Web.com,” said Bowditch, who would get into the Masters with a victory. “Ive got a little experience, but not a great deal, especially at this level. Ive never slept on a lead, so well see how we go.” Mickelson withdrew after pulling the muscle teeing off on No. 1 — his 10th hole of the round. He hopes to play next week in the Houston Open, the last event before the Masters. “I pulled a muscle on my downswing trying to hit it hard,” Mickelson said a statement. “It just killed and it wouldnt subside for 10 or 12 seconds. Im going back to San Diego (for) a couple of days and have a doctor look at it, but theres really not much you can do for a pulled muscle. I hope Ill be OK to play the Shell in Houston, but I just dont know.” Lefty was 1-over par in the round and 4 over overall when the three-time Masters champion was taken off the course in a cart. His caddie, Jim Mackay, said Mickelson felt a twinge on his tee shot on No. 1. “Its definitely not his back,” Mackay said. “IIts his right side.dddddddddddd The thing he had been talking about is how good his back had been feeling here. Hell definitely play Houston, if he can.” Its the second time this year Mickelson has withdrawn in the middle of a tournament. He pulled out at Torrey Pines after making the cut because of a back injury. On Friday, Mickelson made the cut on the number, following an opening 77 with a 70. Bowditch, ranked 339th in the world, chipped in at the first two holes, for birdie at No. 1 and an eagle at the par-5 second. He drove to chipping distance at the 338-yard fifth hole and made a 4-foot birdie putt. “(The chip on the first hole) calmed my nerves a little bit,” Bowditch said. “It was as easy a chip as youre going to have out here.” He cooled after that when he missed the green at No. 9 and bogeyed, then strung together pars until he drove close to the at the 324-yard downwind 17th. He chipped inside a foot and tapped in for birdie and kept his two-stroke lead when Loupe matched the birdie. Loupe closed with a bogey. Kuchar, a six-time winner on the tour, had the best round of the week. He holed out the greenside bunker on No. 1. “Still surprised to be at 7 under today,” Kuchar said. “Its not a score I would have thought was out there with these sort of (windy) conditions.” Pat Perez was fourth at 8 under after a 69. Kevin Na, who had a 16 on the ninth hole three years ago, was 7 under after a 69. ’ ’ ’

ST. Dwan Edwards Panthers Jersey . JOHNS, N.L. — Michael Hutchinson posted a 24-save shutout and Kael Mouillierat scored to earn the St. Johns IceCaps a 1-0 victory over the Albany Devils on Wednesday night in American Hockey League playoff action. Mouillierat scored the lone goal of the game for the IceCaps when he surged forward to catch an outlet pass from Zach Redmond on a breakaway. The victory gives St. Johns a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. Mouillierat faked to move the puck forehand and then quickly brought it backhand before releasing high at the 17:50 mark of the first period. IceCaps goalie Michael Hutchinson made a huge, high glove save on a wide-open opportunity in front for Reid Boucher with six minutes left to play. Keith Kinkaid stopped 34 pucks for the Devils. His biggest fan in the world just might be UFC President Dana White, and thats just one reason Barao is the star of UFC 173. Barao (34-1) faces T.J. Dillashaw in the main event at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas on Saturday, headlining the UFCs traditional Memorial Day weekend card in its hometown. “I think (Barao) is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world,” White said. “I love this guy.” Its tough to argue with White, given Baraos 22-fight winning streak and perfect record in UFC competition. The 135-pound Brazilian dynamo excels with both jiu-jitsu and strikes, fighting with a flair that has led to stoppages in six of his last nine fights. “I think I have a lot to improve in my game, but its always a pleasure to hear from your boss that you are the No. 1,” Barao said. “This is the recognition of the hard work and training.” Barao likely faces bigger obstacles than Dillashaw (10-2), a heavy underdog, on his path to stardom. Barao is a champion of a lighter weight class, which makes him traditionally less interesting to many fight fans. He also doesnt speak much English, making him tough to promote in North America. Even his Brazilian fans dont know much about his personality outside the cage — although at least they know his last name isnt actually Barao, the Portuguese word for Baron and a nickname given to him by his grandmother. But with the UFC looking for new attractions in the absence of Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva, Barao is getting a chance to show off his incredible skills on another major stage, and White is confident fans will figure out what theyre seeing. “With Anderson, it took a long time for people to catch on,” White said of his long-reigning former middleweight champion. “It doesnt happen overnight. When you look at the numbers, its all there. (Barao) is a killer. He tries to go in there and finish. Hes the type of guy I like to watch fight.” Dillashaw worked his way into position for a title shot with fivve wins in six fights, but his matchup with Barao is the fourth fight that has been scheduled to headline this card. The Northern California native is eager to take advantage of the chance created when Raphael Assuncao, who beat Dillashaw by split decision last October, dropped out of this title shot with a rib injury. “Hes a great champion, but everyone has holes in their game,” Dillashaw said. “Hes sloppy in exchanges, but he makes it work because hes a big, powerful athlete. I need to stay with what Im good at and use my angles to disrupt his power.” Just in case Baraos fight against a game underdog doesnt intrigue enough pay-per-view buyers, UFC 173 also features light heavyweight contender Daniel Cormier against veteran Dan Henderson, along with a bout between welterweights Robbie Lawler and Jake Ellenberger. Cormier (14-0) is also a rising name in the UFC, but hes not a tough sell. The talkative former Olympic wrestler has been a dynamic fighter in Strikeforce and the UFC at heavyweight and light heavyweight, where hes currently closing in on a title shot against pound-for-pound contender Jon Jones. Henderson (30-11) is a significant underdog, but any fighter is just one punch away from disaster when hes in the cage with the 43-year-old veteran whose knockout power is no longer aided by testosterone replacement therapy. “(Hendersons) big right hand is the single biggest weapon in MMA, even more dangerous than Ronda Rouseys armbar,” Cormier said. “It can come at any time from any direction. No question thats what makes this a dangerous fight. But Ive made a career of making those guys, who possess that something special, like they never had it. I need to stay super-focused and avoid those punches.” Although Henderson has lost three of his last four fights, he knocked out Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in spectacular fashion just two months ago. “I want to knock everyone out that I fight,” Henderson said. “Its not always the easiest thing to pull off, but Ive done pretty well with it throughout my career. And its definitely nice knowing you have that power going into a fight.” ’ ’ ’

Toronto has a 12-10 home record this season. The trip concluded with Fridays 118-105 setback against the Los Angeles Clippers, as DeMar DeRozan ended with 36 points and eight assists, and Kyle Lowry finished with 19 points. DeRozan tried closing the gap for the Raptors, but the Clippers were able to pull away for the win. “We got it down to nine points,” Raptors coach Dwane Casey said. “We had to attack but we struggled making shots.” DeRozan averaged 28.3 points per game on the trip, while Lowry posted an average of 15.6 points and 5.6 assists over the previous five games. Defense has been key for the Atlantic Division-leading Raptors, as they are fifth in the NBA in points allowed (97.1) and ninth in opponent field goal percentage (.446). They have won six straight games when allowing less than 100 points and are 22-6 when the opposition scores less than 100 points. New Orleans opened a three-game road trip with Sundays 93-81 loss at Brooklyn and entered the game having won two straight and six of eight. Anthony Davis led the Pelicans with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Brian Roberts and Austin Rivers scored 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Pelicans shot just 36.1 percent for the game and made 6-of-18 3-pointers. “We just didnt play well tonight,” said Davis, who has scored 20-plus points in three straight and six of seven games. “We know it, the coaches know it, everybody knows it.” New Orleans has lost two in a row on the road, has a 9-16 record away from the Big Easy and will close the trip Wednesday at Milwaukee. LONDON — Chelsea handed Arsene Wenger one of his most demoralizing defeats as Arsenal manager as his 1,000th game ended in a 6-0 rout, and the referee also endured embarrassment at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Tony Romo Black Friday Jersey . Chelsea earned its biggest league victory under Jose Mourinho after the leaders raced into a 2-0 lead in just seven minutes through goals from Samuel Etoo and Andre Schuerrle. “You come to kill and in 10 minutes we destroyed,” Mourinho said. “After that? Easy.” Not for the referee, as Andre Marriner provided the London derbys big talking point by sending off the wrong Arsenal player after 15 minutes. Although Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain blatantly handled to keep out Eden Hazards shot, it was Kieran Gibbs who was dismissed despite his teammates protests. “Andre is disappointed that he failed to identify the correct player,” the league referees body said in a statement. “He expressed his disappointment to Arsenal when he was made aware of the issue.” Hazard scored Chelseas third from the resulting penalty, Oscar netted twice and Mohamed Salah completed Wengers misery with his first goal for the leaders. Arsenal saw its title ambitions seriously dented as it fell seven points behind Chelsea, and dropped to fourth. “Its one of the worst days (in my career),” Wenger said. “Its over after 20 minutes and its a long game after that.” After the humiliation Wenger did not attend the mandatory post-match news conference, with Arsenal media chief Mark Gonnella saying the team bus had to leave while Mourinho was addressing reporters. The Frenchman couldnt get away quick enough after another gloomy landmark day at Stamford Bridge. His 500th game in charge also saw Arsenal lose at Chelsea, albeit only 1-0 in 2005. The margin of this defeat matched the previous low-point of Wengers 18-year reign — an 8-2 loss at Manchester United. It was also Arsenals third big away loss against its direct title rivals this season, following a 6-3 defeat at Manchester City and 5-1 drubbing at Liverpool. And the humbling only served to justify Mourinhos recent gibe that Wenger is a “specialist in failure” as the Frenchman went an 11th game without beating his Portuguese rival. Only five minutes after scoring the opening goal in the fifth, Etoo was forced off injured and replaced by Fernando Torres. “Arsene Wenger, we want you to stay,” Chelsea fans taunted with a quick 2-0 lead. Then Hazards shot was tipped away, not by Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, but by Oxlade-Chamberlain. Despite the clearest of diving saves by an outfield player, Marriner somehow managed to identify Gibbs as the offender despite Oxlade-Chamberlain being seen admitting to the referee: “It was me.” The one-game suspension is still set to be served by Oxlade-Chamberlain. Hazard scored from the penalty spot and there was no way back for Arsenal. Just before halftime, Schuerrle released Torres, who squared into the centre for Oscar to scoop in from close range. Oscars second in the 66th was in part down to a goalkeeping blunder as Szczesny allowed his curling shot from outside the area to slip through his hands. Szczesny allowed Salahs shot to roll under him four minutes later to cap an all-around dismal performance by the visitors. “This defeat is my fault, I take full responsibility for it,” Wenger said. “I dont think theres too much need to talk about the mistakes we made. We got a good hiding today.” Bruce Carter Cowboys Jersey . The Browns have relaxed their media limitations to see rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel practice. Randy White Cowboys Jersey . Marian Gaborik had two goals and an assist and Martin Jones made just 17 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season as the Kings snapped a three-game losing skid with a 3-0 victory over the lowly Oilers on Thursday.AVONDALE, La. — When Ben Martin played junior golf, his father, Jim, would tell him that his demeanour should be the same every time he walked off a green, whether he made birdie or double bogey. That might explain why Martin seemed so calm when his game briefly unraveled Friday in the middle of the second round of the Zurich Classic, and why he righted himself quickly enough to post the best two-round score ever at TPC Louisiana. Martin, who shot a course-record 62 on Thursday, shook off his first bogey and double bogey of the tournament to finish with a 67 on Friday, putting him at 15 under - three shots ahead of closest pursuer Andrew Svoboda. If the 26-year-old Martin can continue to show that type of composure, he might capture his first PGA Tour victory. “Thats my personality in general. Sometimes my wife gets mad at me because I dont get excited about anything,” Martin said. “And then I dont get down too much, either. Thats golf. You cant expect to shoot 62 every day.” Svoboda followed his opening 64 with a 68. Robert Streb (66) and Sueng-Yul Noh (68) were tied for third at 11 under. Erik Compton also shot a 68 and was at 10 under, a score that keeps the two-time heart transplant recipient in contention for his maiden PGA Tour triumph. Tied with Compton for fifth was Peter Hanson, who shot 69, four shots off the pace of his strong opening round. Keegan Bradley (66), Jeff Overton (68) and Charley Hoffman (67) were 9 under. Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., is tied for 12th and eight shots back after shooting a 68. David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., meanwhile is in a tie for 67th after shooting 71. The tournament record score at TPC Louisiana- which is hosting New Orleans PGA Tour event for the ninth time — is 20 under, set last year by Billy Horschel. For a while, it looked as if Martin might match that in the second round. Starting the day on the 10th hole, Martin hit an 8-iron 160 yards to a foot to set up his first birdie. On the par-5 11th, he used a 54-degree sand wedge to chip in from nearly 58 feet, one day after he chipped in with the same club from 55 feet on 17. He then sank a 7-foot putt for birdie on 13. Martin said his hot start was cooled off, aalmost poetically, by the sound of ice being poured into a cooler in one of the VIP suites overlooking the par-3 17th hole. Randy White Black Friday Jersey. It forced him to back away from a putt attempt, and he wound up three-putting. Then he proceeded to hit his drive into water to the right of the 18th fairway, and three-putted for a double bogey. Yet, as he walked off the green, he smiled slightly and proceeded calmly and purposefully to the first tee, where he made the first of four birdies on his second nine. Thats the kind of composure Martins wife, Kelly, has come to know well. “When he comes off the course, you wouldnt know if he shot 10 under or 10 over,” she said. Svoboda, who will tee off with the final group for the first time in a PGA Tour event, continued to be pleased with his putting, which he credited in part to a new putter with a shaft bent to 71 degrees and grooves on the face. “Im hitting the ball great and Im putting really well,” said Svoboda, whose highlights included a 40-yard bunker shot to set up a 12-foot birdie putt on the par-5 second hole. He didnt have a single bogey in the tournament until his final hole of the day, when he three-putted the par-3 ninth. “I hit a bad second putt there,” he said of his miss from 6 feet. “But I dug pretty hard today. I played really well, so Im pretty happy.” DIVOTS: The cut line was 2 under, and 84 players made it to the weekend, with a couple players — such as Max Homa and Kevin Tway, making birdie putts on their final shots to sneak in. Those putts should be worth no less than $11,600, tournament officials said, and possibly much more. … Ernie Els, the 2012 British Open winner, missed the cut by a stroke. Horschel missed by two strokes, marking the fourth time he has missed the cut in his last eight starts. … David Duval was tied for 12th at 7 under. … The 36-hole tournament record belongs to Scott Verplank, a 16-under 128 at English Turn in 2003. The now-previous 36-hole tournament record of 12-under 132 at TPC Louisiana belonged to three players: Lucas Glover (2013) Jason Dufner (2012) and Jason Bohn (2010). … The weather for the second round was mostly cloudy, 82 degrees, with wind of 6 to 12 mph. ’ ’ ’

PARIS — Pirelli secured a new three-year contract with motor sports governing body on Thursday to remain Formula Ones sole tire supplier, a welcome relief for the Italian manufacturer following an extremely difficult season. Kamerion Wimbley Jersey . Last July, F1 teams held in-season testing sessions at Silverstone to assess new tires provided by Pirelli after several blowouts on the same circuit at the British Grand Prix in June prompted a furious response from drivers and even a boycott threat the following week. Even before Silverstone, there were repeated problems — with the Spanish GP in May turning into a pit-stop procession as tires shredded and drivers made up to four stops each. “Following a decision by the World Motor Sport Council confirming Pirellis status as the single supplier of tires to the FIA Formula One World Championship, Pirelli and the FIA have renewed their Formula One tire supply contract,” Pirelli said in a statement Thursday. “The duration of the agreement is for three years, starting from the 2014 season.” This decision looked unlikely a few months ago when Pirelli was in an F1 crisis. At the British GP, the tires exploded on four cars, including those of Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa. Drivers then threatened to withdraw from the German Grand Prix if there were more blowouts. Four-time champion Sebastian Vettel was among the most vehement critics as drivers demanded a quick improvement amid fears for their safety. Pirelli eventually buckled under intense pressure to modify its tires. Following its own investigation, Pirelli decided that from the Hungarian GP in late July until the end of the season it would revert to the 2012 tires combined with the compounds from this past season. After that, the problems all but disappeared. Toward the end of the season, Pirelli still had not secured a new deal, prompting speculation that another supplier could step in. The FIA and Pirelli are working to improve safety and performance levels in F1. Starting next season, one of the 12 days of official pre-season testing will be dedicated exclusively to wet tire testing. Each team will dedicate one of their eight days of in-season testing exclusively to tire testing in tandem with Pirellis engineers. Akeem Ayers Authentic Jersey . — Michael Bennett gambled last off-season that playing on a one-year deal in Seattle would pay off in the future with the long-term contract he always wanted. Michael Oher Jersey . The agreement Thursday was for $5,000 above the midpoint between the $2.4 million he had asked for and the $1.6 million the Indians had offered when the sides exchanged arbitration figures last month. CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers are placing both starting rookie defensive tackles — Terrell McClain and Sione Fua — on injured reserve, a person familiar with the decisions said on Tuesday. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because moves have not been announced. Fua and McClain were both third-round draft picks this year and have been starters since week one. However, Fua suffered a significant right hamstring strain prior to Sundays game against Tampa Bay and didnt play. McClain sprained his left knee during the first half and did not return. Its unclear at this point if either player will need surgery. They become the 13th and 14th players to join Carolinas lengthy list of players on injured reserve — seven on each side of the ball. Defence, however, has been hit particularly hard. The Panthers lost starting defensive tackle Ron Edwards in training camp and then linebackers Jon Beason and Thomas Davis the first two weeks of the season. In addition, theyve also added promising young linebacker Thomas Williams for the season in recent weeks. McClain started all 12 games and hhad 20 tackles, one sack, four quarterback pressures and one fumble recovery. Bernard Pollard Jersey. McClain was selected 65th overall in this years draft while Fua was taken later in the third round at No. 97. Fua, whose primary job at the nose tackle is taking up space in the middle for others to make plays, had 15 tackles with one quarterback pressure. Overall, coach Ron Rivera has been extremely pleased with the play of both rookies, while acknowledging the Panthers have had to “take some punches like a little brother.” Still, Rivera believes the experience they have gained playing as rookies will be huge for the Panthers in coming years. The injuries leave the Panthers with only two defensive tackles on the roster — Andre Neblett and Frank Kearse. Neblett is a second-year player. Kearse is a rookie. Both Neblett and Kearse saw significant playing time in Carolinas 38-19 win over Tampa Bay. The Panthers also had to slide defensive ends Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy and Antwan Applewhite inside to defensive tackle to help out in certain packages against the Bucs. The Panthers (4-8) host Atlanta (7-5) on Sunday. ’ ’ ’

NEW YORK — Not much heat from the Hawks for Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks. Luke Appling Black Friday Jersey . Thats likely to change Thursday night when the show travels to Miami for Lin versus LeBron and some real Heat. Lin had 17 points and nine assists, sitting out most of the fourth quarter in a rare easy game during his remarkable run, and the Knicks tuned up for their trip by beating Atlanta 99-82 on Wednesday. Carmelo Anthony scored 15 points in his second game back from injury for the Knicks, who led the depleted Hawks by 25 points at halftime. New York bounced back from a loss to New Jersey on Monday and won for the ninth time in 11 games since Lin joined the rotation. The Knicks visit Miami on Thursday in their final game before the All-Star break, and Lins emergence has the Heats attention. “Its going to be a lot of, a lot of anticipation about this game,” Anthony said. "Were going down there to win. Miami is playing great basketball right now. One of the hottest teams, if not the hottest team in the NBA. “Itll be a great game.” LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and teammates have been asked repeatedly in recent days about the ex-Harvard guard, and coach Mike DAntoni was told the word out of Miami is the Heat will be waiting for the Knicks back-to-back Sports Illustrated cover boy. “At the airport?” he joked. Not quite. But whatever they do will provide more resistance than the Hawks, who trailed by as many as 30. Jeff Teague scored 18 points for the Hawks. They played without All-Star guard Joe Johnson, who left their loss at Chicago on Monday with a sore left knee and had to pull out of Sundays game in Orlando, and have lost three straight and five of six. “Coming into this game, being as depleted as we were, I still was hoping we could come out and just put together four solid quarters. We just didnt do that,” Hawks coach Larry Drew said. The Knicks shot 52 per cent in the first half, scored 30 points in both periods, and led 60-35 at the break. “We are professionals. They just came out and they attacked us,” Teague said. “Thats all I can really say.” The Knicks lost their focus briefly midway through the third before pulling away again to lead 78-56 heading into the fourth. Lin watched the first 6-plus minutes of the final period before DAntoni curiously put him back in leading by 20 with 5:13 left. Lin still played only 33 minutes after he logged at least 36 in all but one of the previous 10 games. Hell likely need to do more against the Heat, who have won seven in a row and have the NBAs best record at 26-7. The Heat have been the NBAs biggest story since building their Big Three in 2010, but even theyve been playing in Lins shadow the last two weeks. That will change Thursday in a nationally televised game that James said could be “one of the most watched games weve had in a long time, especially with what Jeremy Lin is doing.” But Lin isnt getting caught up in the hype. “I think for us, we want to make sure what were thinking about is we want to build momentum going into the All-Star break and we want to make a push after the All-Star break. And I think this is a good opportunity to build momentum,” he said. “Its a big game, dont get me wrong. Were playing a great team, and its going to be a good evaluation of where were at. So from that end obviously were excited and ready for the challenge. But besides that, were just going try to stay consistent.” The game against Atlanta came on the one-year anniversary of the Knicks acquisition of Anthony from Denver in a blockbuster trade that cost them four of their top six players. The results have been underwhelming — 14-14 last season and 17-17 this season, and DAntoni acknowledged the high price the Knicks paid for the All-Star forward “depleted a lot of things.” However, he said theyve built their depth back, and the potential was obvious in the first half, when all nine players who played scored. New additions Baron Davis and J.R. Smith could be an explosive second-team backcourt, and teamed up on a pretty alley-oop that Smith dropped in with his back to the hoop. Steve Novak is the 3-point specialist needed to space the floor so Lin and Anthony have room to drive into the lane. “The things are developing and well get our guys, everybody up to par, and if that happens then we should be fairly good,” DAntoni said. Novak made five 3-pointers and scored 17 points. Landry Fields had 16, and Smith finished with 12. Davis had six assists in 14 minutes. Notes: Drew was disappointed that Josh Smith was passed over in favour of Bostons Rajon Rondo when Commissioner David Stern chose the injury replacement for Johnson. Smith averages 16 points and 9.6 rebounds, is top 15 in the league in blocks, rebounds and steals, and was already considered perhaps the biggest snub when reserves were chosen. “I really thought that he would get the invite once word was that Joe wouldnt be able to play,” Drew said. “I mean, you look at Joshs numbers, he has good numbers. His numbers are good enough to be where he should be an All-Star. Why he didnt make it, I dont know.” … Knicks assistant Mike Woodson was the Hawks head coach from 2004-10. … Lansdowne Road, an Irish pub in the Hells Kitchen section of New York, announced it was changing its name to LINsdowne Road. Roger Clemens Black Friday Jersey . He was willing to play on a one-year deal, he was willing to work out a fair price and his only significant requirement was finding another star quarterback who could get him the ball. Chicago Cubs Black Friday Jersey . So far, his encore is even better. Wainwright became the National Leagues first eight-game winner by dominating Cincinnati again, and the St. With the Montreal Canadiens still not knowing when the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs will begin, Michel Therrien decided to simulate a game day for his team on Monday. “Its almost a week since we last played and this is part of our preparation for the next round,” Therrien told the media. The players participated in a simulated morning skate at 10:30am, their usual practice time on game day, and then headed to the Bell Centre at 5pm with their families to take part in some activities the team has planned forr them, followed by a scrimmage with members of the Hamilton Bulldogs. Dan Uggla Black Friday Jersey. "Its good for us to feel the speed of the game again and to get our timing back,” PK Subban said following practice. “Its tough when youve been off for a few days to keep your timing, so it will be good to get in a scrimmage.” It will be a closed door event with the public and the media not allowed to attend. The Canadiens have the day off on Tuesday and should know by Wednesday the schedule for Round 2. ’ ’ ’

EDMONTON – It wasnt much of a season, but the Edmonton Oilers managed to go out with a show-stopper to honour Ryan Smyth. Reggie White Eagles Elite Jersey . Taylor Hall had three assists to hit 80 points on the season as the Oilers celebrated veteran forward Smyths final game in style, coming away with a 5-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. “It was a special night,” said Hall.“To get a win and a nice win was great. Smitty wanted to go out on a win and a high note. That was his message before the game. We won it for him and it was good to see. It was a night I will never forget.” Roman Horak, Jeff Petry, Will Acton, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored for the Oilers (29-44-9) who snapped a two-game losing skid in their final game of the season. The win moved the Oilers up a draft spot, as they leapfrogged the Florida Panthers into 28th place overall with Tuesdays NHL draft lottery looming. The fans, however, were more interested in seeing Smyth go out on a win after a career that saw him total 386 goals, 456 assists and 842 points in 1,270 career games. Smyth, was unable to get the power-play goal that would have given him the franchise record, remaining in a tie with Glenn Anderson at 126 for his career. Smyth was loudly cheered all night and no show of respect could have been bigger than the Canucks players coming back out on the ice to shake his hand after the final whistle, before the sobbing Alberta native said goodbye to his coaches and teammates. “I soaked every moment of it in,” Smyth said. “It was an awesome experience that I will never forget for the rest of my life. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of putting on this jersey, and any jersey in the NHL. To see the fan appreciation form the start to the end… they are the best fans in the world. I am thoroughly honoured to stand up here today and say I enjoyed every moment.” Shawn Matthias and Zack Kassian replied for the Canucks (35-35-11) who have not had a strong finishing run to their season, losing six of their last seven with one game still to be played. “We gave them too many primary scoring chances and a team like that theyre going to score,” Kassian said. “We got a lot of shots, but we didnt get a lot of scoring chances for us.” However, even the Vancouver players were mainly interested in talking about Smyths final night and how they were glad to be able to go up to him after the game and pay their respects. “We talked about having to do something for him,” said captain Henrik Sedin. “Hes been such a big part of the Oilers, you talk about a lot of big names and hes up there with the best. It was fun to be a part of it.” “Its terrific,” added Canucks coach John Tortorella. “Thats what you love about our athletes in our game, its that mutual respect amongst one another after the game is over. Ryan Smyth deserves that and I thought our guys handled themselves very well.” Edmonton started the scoring just 2:14 into the game as Steven Pinizzotto made a pass from behind the net to Horak in the slot and the recent AHL call-up rifled his first of the year past Canucks starting goalie Jacob Markstrom. The assist was Pinizzottos first-career NHL point. Oilers goalie Ben Scrivens withstood a barrage of early shots to keep Vancouver off the board and as a result Edmonton made it 2-0 with seven minutes left to play in the first. Nugent-Hopkins was able to get the puck to a pinching Petry in front and he beat Markstrom high to the glove side for this seventh of the year. Vancouver out-shot the Oilers 18-5 in the first period. Oddly enough the Oilers also scored 2:14 into the second period to make it 3-0 as a Philip Larsen shot hit a stick in front, but the clearing attempt went directly to Acton, who zipped home his third of the season. The Canucks got on the board five-and-a-half minutes into the second as Scrivens attempted a diving poke check on Matthias, but the momentum carried the puck into the net anyway to make it 3-1. Edmonton made it 4-1 with four minutes left in the second as Eberle tried to hit Smyth in front for this record-setting power-play goal, but the puck caromed in off defender Alexander Edler instead. “On the replay, we thought maybe he spun around and hit it,” Eberle said of the hope that Smyth would be credited with the goal. “We were hoping that it was his. We were trying to do everything we could to get the puck to the net for him so he could tip it. We tried so hard.” The Oilers took a four-goal lead a minute-and-a-half into the third period after a Martin Marincin shot created a scramble in front and Canucks defender Nicklas Jensen inadvertently chipped the puck off the skate of Nugent-Hopkins and in. The Canucks made the score look a little better with a goal by Kassian with just 11 seconds left in the game. Vancouver out-shot Edmonton 42-22 overall. The Canucks still have one game left to play before their season is officially over, returning home to play the Calgary Flames on Sunday. Edmonton is now officially done, missing the playoffs for a league-high eighth straight season. Notes- It was the fifth and final game of the season between the divisional rivals. The Canucks won the first three games by a combined score of 12-3 before Edmonton won the fourth match-up 4-2 on Jan. 27… Smyth concluded his NHL career after spending 15 of his 20 seasons in the league for the Oilers, ranking second on the franchises all-time list with 971 games played. He was given the Oilers captains C for the game… It was Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins 21st birthday… College free agent forward Michael Zalewski, who signed with Vancouver on Mar. 14 after playing this past season with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, played his first NHL game… Out for the Canucks were defencemen Christopher Tanev (broken fingers) and Andrew Alberts (concussion) and center Mike Santorelli (shoulder surgery)… Absent with injuries from the Oilers lineup were forwards Sam Gagner (ankle), Nail Yakupov (broken ankle), Ryan Jones (torn PCL), Boyd Gordon (shoulder), Jesse Joensuu (high ankle sprain) and Luke Gazdic (shoulder), as well as defenceman Andrew Ference (pectoral tear). DeMeco Ryans Jersey For Sale . San Antonio was out of energy and emotion, which is usually when coach Gregg Popovich turns to Manu Ginobili for a boost. The reported price for the Jays was Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez. Would you make that deal? The Blue Jays are in first place in the AL East. The latest on injured Avalanche forward Matt Duchene remains a mystery. On Sunday, head coach Patrick Roy said the teams leading scorer will skate at Mondays morning practice and the club will make a decision on his status for Game 6 at that point. Duchene has been out since damaging the MCL in his left knee when he ran into a teammate againstt San Jose on March 29. Riley Cooper Jersey. . Lilly retired after last season with a 130-113 record and a 4.14 ERA. He pitched for Montreal (1999), the New York Yankees (2000-02), Oakland (2002-03), Toronto (2004-06), the Cubs (2007-10) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (2010-13). Chicago said Tuesday he will spend time with the team during spring training, visit minor league clubs during the season, evaluate amateur players ahead of the June draft and scout professional players. A little more than six months later, Gonzalez was formally cleared by Major League Baseball. Gonzalez, a left-hander who finished third in NL Cy Young Award voting last year, said Monday he has “no lingering sense of animosity” over being connected to MLBs drug investigation. New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez was banned through 2014, while 12 players were suspended 50 games apiece Monday because of their relationship to Biogenesis of America. MLB also announced that its inquiry “found no violations” by two players linked to Biogenesis in media reports: Gonzalez and Danny Valencia, a Baltimore Orioles third baseman recalled from the minors on Sunday. “Ive never been really concerned about it,” Nationals manager Davey Johnson said about Gonzalezs involvement. “I had a conversation with him in spring when it all came up. We had a nice talk about it. He wasnt concerned about it. I was, like anybody else, upset he was even linked to it. It is a relief that everybody knows it wasnt a problem. Its just another distraction you dont have to deal with.” Gonzalez never sounded bothered by the whole thing, and he has pitched rather well this season for a Nationals club that entered Monday three games below .500 after leading the majors in wins last year. “I think it was on his mind so I think it had some effect on him,” general manager Mike Rizzo said before the Nationals hosted the Atlanta Braves on Monday night. “I think he handled it well. Its a testament to his mental makeup and the way he prepares for games. I thought hes thrown extremely well, considering.” Gonzalez is 7-4 with a 3.57 ERA and a team-leading 139 strikeouts in 133 2-3 innings. In 2012, his first season with Washington, Gonzalez went 21-8. Overall, in six years in the majors with the Oakland Athletics and Nationals, the 27-year-old Gonzalez is 66-44 with a 3.664 ERA. Tommy McDonald Jersey For Sale. . Baseballs investigation began last year and escalated in January, when the Miami New Times published documents connecting several players to Biogenesis, whose founder, Anthony Bosch, eventually co-operated with MLB. When that newspapers report came out in January, Gonzalez posted on his Twitter feed: “Ive never used performance enhancing drugs of any kind and I never will, Ive never met or spoken with tony Bosch or used any substance provided by him. anything said to the contrary is a lie.” He later said that his father, Max, was a patient of the clinic and went there to get help losing weight. In February, Gonzalez said he had taken blood and urine tests two days after the initial newspaper report and that they came back negative. “I am very pleased that Major League Baseball has cleared my name. With this process now complete, I have no lingering sense of animosity, as I quickly realized that the objective of this investigation was to clean up our game,” Gonzalez said in a statement issued Monday by the Nationals. “This is an ideal that I share with both Major League Baseball and the (players union). I would also like to acknowledge the unwavering support of my teammates, the Lerner Family (that owns the Nationals), Mike Rizzo, Davey Johnson, our coaching staff and Nationals fans everywhere.” The Orioles did not have a game Monday. A day before, the 28-year-old Valencia homered for Baltimore after rejoining the club from Triple-A Norfolk. He has spent time in the majors with the Minnesota Twins (2010-12), Boston Red Sox (2012) and Orioles (2013), compiling a .254 batting average with 30 homers and 143 RBIs. At spring training, Valencia told reporters he didnt have any connection to Biogenesis or its founder, Bosch. “Ive never had any contact with those people,” Valencia said at the time. “Ive never met Tony Bosch — never seen him, never been to that clinic, never heard of that clinic until the New Times story first broke. That being said, Ive never ever taken a PED in my life, never failed a drug test in my life and I never will.” ’ ’ ’

Matt Besler Jersey . — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are making a case for saving coach Greg Schianos job with a strong second-half turnaround. NEWARK, N.J. — Three days after being traded to the New Jersey Devils, Tuomo Ruutu had one of those storybook games against his former Carolina Hurricanes teammates. Ruutu scored with 6:30 to play to snap a tie, and the Devils earned a 5-4 victory after squandering a three-goal lead Saturday night. “We were actually taking about that, just how that works,” linemate Travis Zajac said of Ruutus winner. “You get traded and somehow you come away with the winning goal. But like I said, he was on the puck all night. He played with a lot of jump.” Not bad for a guy who has a lot on his mind. Not only did Ruutu have to move, he had to leave his pregnant wife in North Carolina. “This was nerve wracking, but its fun when you win,” said Ruutu, who was acquired for centre Andrei Loktionov on Wednesday. “When it goes the other way, its not fun at all. We can learn from this game but the most important thing is the two points.” New Jersey has won four of six games since the Olympic break, leaving the Devils two points behind Detroit for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. New Jersey has 17 games left in the regular season. “We just have to keep doing that and give ourselves a chance to stay with the pack,” Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. Red-hot Adam Henrique added two more goals, and Zajac and Damien Brunner had the others as the usually defensive-minded Devils had another lax game in their own end. They have given up 11 goals in the last two games. Jeff Skinner, Jay Harrison, Nathan Gerbe and Alexander Semin scored for Carolina, which has lost seven of eight. Gerbe and Semin tallied in the third period to make it 4-4. “We did a good job of getting back in the game but unfortunately we came up short,” Hurricanes defenceman Ryan Murphy said. Ruutu scored the game winner with a shot from between the circles that was set up by an outstanding play by defenceman Marek Zidlicky. Zidlicky controlled the puck and then found Ruutu coming down the middle of the ice. His shot beat goalie Cam Ward for his sixth goal of the season. “Its obviously something special to get the win,” Ruutu said. "I will try to enjoy it tonight but we need some more wins.&quoot; Semin had tied it 51 seconds earlier with a spin-around shot from between the circles after singlehandedly beating four Devils in the zone. Alejandro Bedoya USA Jersey. Gerbe had made it a one-goal game with a short-handed breakaway goal early in the period, scoring on Martin Brodeur, who made 29 saves. The Devils seemed in command after Henrique capped a big three-goal second period with his 22nd and 23rd tallies of the season for a 4-2 lead. He has nine goals in six games since the Olympic break. The Devils scored three times in 4:17 after Skinner tied the game with a shot that deflected off the elbow of New Jersey defenceman Mark Fayne at 6:21 of the second period. It was Skinners 25th of the season, but the Hurricanes didnt enjoy the moment long. Just 1:21 later, Patrick Dwyer was called for holding defenceman Bryce Salavador. The Devils then took the lead with the aid of a lucky bounce. Zidlicky missed the net with a slap shot. The puck came off the end boards at a weird angle, and Brunner gathered it low in the left circle and backhanded a shot into an open net with Anton Khudobin caught off-guard. The goal hadnt even been announced when Carolina defenceman Mike Komisarek had a puck bounce over his stick at centre ice, setting up a 2-on-none break. Ryane Clowe gave the puck to Henrique, and he easily beat Khudobin with another backhander. Henrique made it 4-1 a little more than four minutes later with a short-handed goal. Patrik Elias carried the puck into the Carolina zone and dropped a pass to Henrique, who fired a shot into the upper corner of the net, chasing Khudobin, who made a season-high 40 saves on Friday night in a loss to the Rangers. Less than 30 seconds after Henriques short-handed goal, Harrison converted on the same power play with his fourth of the season. Gerbe closed the gap to a goal with a short-handed tally early in the third period and then Semin set things up for Ruutu to be a hero. NOTES: Carolina D Justin Faulk missed his third straight game because of an upper-body injury. … Brunners goal was his first in 12 games and 10th of the season. … Ruutu set up Zajacs opening goal with a nice pass across the goal crease. Zajac also had two assists. ..Murphy played a game high 26:51 for Carolina. ’ ’ ’

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Philip Rivers Jersey . — Wayne Weavers office is nearly empty, the shelves cleared, the cabinets bare, most of his things packed in boxes. All that remains are some pictures, his computer and a few files scattered across his desk — just enough to avoid echoes in the spacious room. Weaver is down to his final few days as owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, a countdown that has been more bitter than sweet after 18 years, 352 games, six post-season appearances and few regrets. A former shoe salesman who worked his way up the corporate ladder and became so successful that he was able to bring an expansion team to Jacksonville in 1993, Weaver sold the franchise last month to Illinois businessman Shahid Khan for US$770 million. Khan officially takes over Jan. 4, meaning Weavers final game in charge will be Sundays season finale against Indianapolis. Hes leaving an exclusive club and taking plenty of memories with him. “Im at peace with where we are and Im looking forward to the next chapter,” Weaver told The Associated Press this week. “Who knows what Ill find to do. I know I wont sit home and twiddle my thumbs. I know that for sure.” The Jaguars will honour Weaver and his wife, Delores, at halftime of Sundays game. The ceremony will include a video montage covering nearly two decades, as well as the presentation of a banner signed by fans. “Every game is emotional for me, but this one will remind me of all the great things that have happened over the last 18 years,” said Weaver, who will turn 77 next month. “Its hard to walk away. But I never let the NFL define who I am. Im secure that Ive built several businesses in my lifetime and been very successful at it, and I feel like theres something else out there for me to learn.” More than anything, the Jaguars (4-11) would like to send Weaver out with a victory. Players and coaches have talked about it all week, saying how special it would be to present the Weavers the game ball. “They mean a lot to this city, mean a lot to everyone involved here,” interim coach Mel Tucker said. “Our fans and our players know that, our coaches know that. Quite frankly, well give everything we can for them to finish on a high note. Thats very, very important to this football team.” Weavers legacy is secure: The former CEO and co-owner of Nine West and current chairman and majority owner of Shoe Carnival, Weaver almost single-handily secured a franchise for Jacksonville — something few thought possible for a relatively small market that lacks big-money corporate support. But Weaver made it happen, and fans showed their appreciation with signs that read “Dream Weaver.” The owner and the city enjoyed four consecutive post-season appearances — including two trips to the AFC championship game — in the expansion franchises first five seasons. “Ive been fortunate,” Weaver said. “I thought this would be something special to do, and its turned out to be even more special than I ever dreamed it would be.” The last decade hasnt been nearly as fruitful. The Jaguars have missed the playoffs in 10 of the last 12 seasons, a drought that cost coaches Tom Coughlin and Jack Del Rio their jobs. Maybe Weavers biggest downfall was being too loyal. He kept former personnel chief James (Shack) Harris after he missed on first-round picks Byron Leftwich (2003), Reggie Williams (2004), Matt Jones (2005), Reggie Nelson (2007) and Derrick Harvey (2008). He also kept Del Rio after deciding to blow the roster up in 2009. “When I came into the National Football League, I was smart enough to know what I didnt know,” Weaver said. “I think that made me more patient in getting involved in the football side of the business than I should have been. I think I recognized things sooner than I made decisions to change them in terms of personnel. I think I was patient, too patient, and I take responsibility for that.” Weaver would have liked to have a few more years before walking away. But he had been looking for an exit strategy in recent years, and Khan seems to be a suitable successor. They have known each other for years, so familiar that the US$770 million agreement was initially drawn up on a cocktail napkin. It included a sale price of $660 million plus $110 million in debt. The final paperwork also included a stability agreement that essentially guarantees that the team will remain in Jacksonville for at least five years. NFL.com has reported that Khan would have to pay $25 million to a Jacksonville charity of Weavers choice if he moves the team within five years. The stability agreement coupled with the teams stadium lease and the NFLs hefty relocation fee make a move unrealistic — at least in the short term. The stadium lease runs through 2027 and would have to be bought out for the team to move. That would cost about $65 million right now. And the NFLs relocation fee could top $100 million. Regardless, Khan has insisted he has no plans to leave Jacksonville. “Were committed to this community and we are going to keep on carrying the work that was started here in perpetuity and hopefully move it up a notch,” Khan said. Weaver hopes for the same. Although he and Delores plan to travel more beginning next year, they are keeping a suite for home games and plan to attend as many as possible. What Wayne Weaver needs now is a new office. “Its the first time in 60 years I havent had a job to go to every morning,” Weaver said. “Thats a little bit scary.” Dwight Freeney Chargers Jersey . Aduriz headed home Markel Susaetas cross in the sixth minute to open the scoring at San Mames Stadium. He bettered that with a long-range blast that went in off the goal frame in the 18th, and converted a penalty in the 72nd after Diego Mainz was sent off for fouling Aduriz with only the goalkeeper to beat. Nick Novak Womens Jersey . Canada dropped a 24-21 decision to Zimbabwe before bouncing back with a 10-7 win over Spain. All three sides finished with seven points apiece in Pool E to move on to the final eight while the Philippines was last with only three points.KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Neither rain nor the Kansas City Royals could stop the Los Angeles Angels from winning again. Albert Pujols and David Freese combined to drive in five runs as the Angels beat the Royals 6-2 on Saturday for their seventh victory in eight games. There were two rain delays with the second after the fourth inning lasting 3:58. The game didnt end until nearly 7 hours after it started. “We had a lot of waiting in between a baseball game,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. The official game time was 2:48, while the rain delays totalled 4:06. “Its a waiting game,” said Eric Hosmer, who had one of the six Royals hits and scored a run. “You basically hang out. We heard it was going to be a couple of hours. It wasnt one of those things where we were thinking it could start any minute, so we had a little heads up. Its all part of the grind of the season. There are going to be days like that. Its what we all sign up for.” Pujols, who has 14 RBIs in his past 13 games, singled home runs in the third and sixth innings. Freese, who had three hits, drove in three runs, two in the four-run sixth and the other in fourth. He has six RBIs in his past seven games, after driving in only three in his previous 26 games. “It was nice to come out and get some runs after the rain,” Freese said. “It was almost like starting a new game so it was nice to get some runs, and nice to get the win.” Kole Calhoun added three hits, scored two runs and drove in one. The Angels four-run sixth included four hits, two walks and three stolen bases. Rookie right-hander Mike Morin (2-1), who went to high school at a Kansas City suburb, allowed two runs on two hits over two innings to pick up the victory. “It was cool,” Morin said. “Scioscia told me I was going to get the ball and I had all my family and friends here. They were probably the only ones left after the rain delay. Its been a great weekend. Ill never forget it. It was just fortunate that I could be in there to get the win in front of them.”t; Angels left-hander Hector Santiago was not allowed to come back out after the second delay. Shareece Wright Womens Jersey. He pitched four scoreless innings, giving up four hits. “Somebody sent me a message and asked me did you make a witch angry?” said Santiago, who needed to pitch one more inning to claim his first victory of the season and losing his first seven decisions. “It seems like everything that can have an effect on me getting a win has happened. But I gave four scoreless innings and gave us a chance to win, and the team got the win, so thats what I care about.” Royals rookie Yordano Ventura (5-7) took the loss, yielding two runs on seven hits over four innings. “I felt like I was in command of the strike zone, but unfortunately the rain got to me and I couldnt go back out,” Ventura said with Royals catching coach Pedro Grifol acting as his interpreter. “I prepared to pitch today and I wanted to go back out, but there was no way I could go back after that long rain delay.” Veteran left-hander Bruce Chen, who had not pitched since April 24 and going on the disabled list with a bulging disc, replaced Ventura after the game resumed. He allowed four runs on four hits, all in the sixth, walked two and struck out eight over five innings. Jason Grilli made his Angels debut after being acquired in a Friday trade with the Pirates and worked a perfect eighth, striking out one. Notes: LHP Brandon Finnegan, the Royals first selection and 17th overall pick in the draft, signed for $2,200,600. Finnegan, who went 9-3 with a 2.04 ERA as a junior and helped lead TCU to the College World Series, will report Monday to the Royals Class A Wilmington, Delaware farm club. … Angels LHP Tyler Skaggs, who is on the disabled list with a right hamstring injury, threw in the bullpen and could make a start at Chicago, the Angels next stop on this trip. … The Angels have won eight of their past 10 meetings against the Royals. … The Royals have lost seven of nine after their 10-game winning streak ended on June 19. ’ ’ ’

NAPLES, Fla. Emmitt Smith Black Friday Jersey . — Matt Kuchar and Harris English took a four-stroke lead Saturday in the Franklin Templeton Shootout, playing the back nine in 9-under 27 in the better-ball round for a 12-under 60. Kuchar and English were 20 under the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resorts Tiburon course. They opened with a 64 on Friday in modified alternate-shot play. The team event ends Sunday with a scramble. Retief Goosen and Fredrik Jacobson were second after a 61. The teams of Ian Poulter-Lee Westwood and Charles Howell III-Justin Leonard were tied for third at 13 under. Poulter and Westwood shot 61, and Howell and Leonard had a 67. Kuchar and English had nine birdies and an eagle on Nos. 8-17. “Its pretty cool,” English said. "You just kind of get on a hot streak and you dont really think about anything other than making birdies. They had a chance for a 59, but Kuchars 14-foot putt on 18 missed to the left. Goosen and Jacobson had five straight birdies on Nos. 3-7 and row in a row on Nos. 14-17.. “Overall, not too bad, but yeah, four shots behind tomorrow, we need something really low,” Goosen said. DeMarco Murray Black Friday Jersey . A year ago, as newly appointed general manager Masai Ujiri bided his time and sat out of a lacklustre 2013 draft, this scenario seemed highly improbable. The Raptors, like every other team in the association, had at least one eye on this years rookie crop, one of the most highly touted and eagerly anticipated ever to enter the league. Slaton played with the Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins between 2008-11 and set several Houston rookie records during a strong 2008 campaign. CINCINNATI, Ohio — Left-handed reliever Sean Marshall will have surgery on his left shoulder, which has bothered him for the last two seasons and repeatedly landed him on the disabled list. Randall Cunningham Jersey . The Reds wont know how long hell be sidelined until doctors operate on the shoulder next Tuesday, manager Bryan Price said. Cincinnatis set-up man was on the disabled list twice last season with shoulder problems. He opened this season on the DL with a sore shoulder and was activated on April 19. He went on the 15-day disabled list last Saturday with more soreness. The Reds moved him to the 60-day DL on Friday. “There are some issues in there that arent going to get better through strengthening and stretching and inflammatory work,” Price said. “He needs surgery to get those things corrected. Once he has the surgery, well have a better idea about a course of action and how long it will take before we can expect to see him again.” The Reds also optioned left-hander Tony Cingrani to Triple-A Louisville on Friday and called up right-hander Jumbo Diaz before the start of their interleague series against the Toronto Blue jays. Cingrani is 2-8 with a 4.55 ERA in 11 starts and two relief appearances. He lost his spot in the rotation when Mat Latos returned from the disabled list and wasnt sharp in his two relief appearances. The left-hander has struggled since his stint on the disabled list because of a sore shoulder earlier this season. The Reds are planning to use Cingrani out of the bullpen once he gets back in form. “With a healthy starting five, thats where Tony can help us best this year,” Price said. “Weve seen him pitch very efficiently at times out of the bullpen.” Right-handed reliever Jumbo Diaz was called up to take Cingranis spot. It will be his major league debut following 12 seasons and 340 appearances in the minors. The 30-year-old pitcher got up to 340 pounds last season, but reported to spring training at 278 pounds. He was the closer at Louisville hoping to finally get a promotion. “Sometimes, you have some thoughts (about quitting),” Diaz said. “You wake up and youre like, Im working hard every day and I dont get the call, but you have to fight it because you never know when the call is going to come. I said, If I keep working hard every day and playing hard every day, someday Im going to get the call.” Teammates congratulated him on his long-awaited promotion when he walked into the clubhouse on Friday. “I was so excited,” Diaz said. “I stopped and looked around and said, Oh, my God. This is what Ive been waiting for for a long time.” Also on Friday, the Reds transferred right-hander Trevor Bell to the 60-day disabled list and reinstated right-hander Brett Marshall from the 60-day DL and optioned him to Louisville. The remade Nets showed off new additions Kevin Garnett, Pierce, and, of course, Kidd, transitioning to a coat and tie after 19 seasons in uniforrm. Brian Dawkins Jersey. Kidd played most of his starters for only 12 minutes, with Brook Lopez (15 points) outscoring the other four combined. Pierce had three points and four fouls, and Garnett scored four points. Shaun Livingston started at point guard in place of Deron Williams, who has a sprained right ankle. Nene led the Wizards with 19 points. John Wall had 16 points and eight assists. ’ ’ ’

Matias Laba is headed to the Vancouver Whitecaps. Paul Hornung Jersey . After reports emerged on Tuesday that the Toronto FC midfielder would head to Vancouver on loan, the team confirmed on Wednesday that they had, in fact, traded for the Argentine designated player. Toronto will receive future considerations. Laba came to Toronto last season from Argentinos Juniors and started all 16 of his appearances with the club last term. With the acquisitions of a trio of designated players this offseason in Brazilian striker Gilberto, American international midfielder Michael Bradly and striker Jermain Defoe of Tottenham, TFC had one more designated player than the three allowed by Major League Soccer rules and Laba was the odd man out. Whitecaps manager Carl Robinson, a former TFC midfielder himself, believes that Laba can help the Vancouver midfield immediately. “Matias is a promising young talent and we are excited to have him join our club,” said Robinson in a statement. “He is a hard, aggressive player who brings a lot of energy to the pitch and although he is only 22, he is a natural leader on the field.” The Whitecaps open up the MLS regular season on March 8 at home against New York Red Bulls. Bart Starr Jersey .5 forward somersault dive may have fallen a little short on Sunday, but the two-time Olympic silver medallist says he feels encouraged by his performance at the Montreal Canada Cup. Julius Peppers Jersey . He missed a three-game series against New York this week after suffering the injury last Sunday while trying to leg out a base hit during a game in Cincinnati. ORLANDO, Fla. — Tiger Woods was a large part of the conversation on the eve of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. And hes not even playing. Woods is missing Bay Hill for only the second time in his career when the tournament starts Thursday on a course that Palmer said is in the best shape ever. Woods has won eight times, including the last two years, but he called the 84-year-old host on Tuesday to say persistent back pain will keep him from playing. “He didnt tell me how bad his back is. I dont think he knows how bad his back is,” Palmer said. "I think hes listening to the doctors. And he mentioned that theyre saying that he needs to give it a bit of a rest and see if he can work it out. He was very nice. And I, of course, have great sympathy for the fact that he tried like hell to come here and play. And I appreciate that and the fact that he called. “I think he wanted to play golf this week,” Palmer said. “I think that he needs to take (time) — whether its this week, next week or the following week — to get ready for Augusta. Certainly, if I were in that position, Id be doing much the same.” Most of the chatter was more about the future with Woods. Will he play at the Masters? Stuck on 14 majors for the last five years, can he match or surpass the record 18 majors won by Jack Nicklaus? And what will be the larger obstacle — his age (38), his health (legs and back) or the competition (long list)? “I dont think 38 years is the ultimate stopping point for his quest to do what Jack did,” Palmer said. “I think it lessens the possibility of that happening. Its going to be tough. Its going to be tough to keep the concentration and the type of the game that is necessary to win majors.” Nicklaus won four of his majors after turning 38. Ben Hogan, with battered legs from a car accident, won five majors after turning 38. Palmer, however, believes more than age is at stake for Woods. “These young guys are tough, and theyre strong,” Palmer said. “And if they continue to play as well as theyve been playing, its going to be tough for anybody — whether it be Nicklaus or Tiger or whomever it would be — to continue to win major championships. And were talking about guys that are playing good and coming on.” Palmer actually had a list of players he was talking about. Some of thhem were young, such as Chris Kirk and Harris English. Clay Matthews Packers Jersey. Others had either won this season (Ryan Moore) or played well recently (Robert Garrigus). “I dont know how many you want me to name,” Palmer said. “But really, the strength and the ability of these people is very pleasing to me.” Graeme McDowell, a runner-up to Woods two years at Bay Hill, said he can understand what the No. 1 player is going through with injuries. He also believes that competition might be an even larger obstacle than his health for Woods to break Nicklaus record. “Hes a physical player who creates a lot of speed and a lot of power and his body is starting to struggle a little bit, no doubt about it,” McDowell said. "But Im sure hell fix it. … But we all talk about how good the fields are nowadays. Taking Tigers fitness and physicality out of it, winning major championships is getting harder and harder for everyone — including the best player maybe thats ever lived in Tiger. “Hes got more than just his body to be fighting. Theres a lot of great players in the world now,” McDowell said. “Its going to be harder for him to achieve Jacks record. But if anyone can do it, Im sure he can find a way because we all know how good he is.” The field at Bay Hill is not as strong as usual, starting with the absence of Woods, the No. 1 player in the world and an eight-time winner of this event. Match Play champion Jason Day (No. 4 in the world) pulled out with recurring pain in his thumb, and Phil Mickelson (No. 5) is not playing this year. Not that it would change the dynamics of what already has been a peculiar season. With 18 tournaments in the books this season, Zach Johnson is the only player to win a PGA Tour event while ranked among the top 10 in the world. The Masters is three weeks away. Is it time for the stars to come out? “Hopefully, this one does,” Masters champion Adam Scott said, pointing to himself with a laugh. “But as far as unexpected winners, it seems to me thats happening more and more in golf. There are more and more guys breaking through, putting in a lot of hard work and getting what they deserve. So I think weve seen a bit of a shift in the game over the last couple of years — a lot less domination by top players.” ’ ’ ’

MIAMI — Jose Fernandez allowed his first two walks of the season, and they came back to back. John Hannah Womens Jersey Elite . When his foot slipped on a delivery, the pitch bounced several feet in front of the plate. One frustrating inning ended with the Miami Marlins precocious ace shaking his head and screaming angrily into his glove. Fernandez was at less than his best Saturday, but still good enough to beat the San Diego Padres. He struck out eight in 6 2-3 innings while lowering his ERA to 0.71, and Miami beat the punchless San Diego Padres 5-0. The Marlins improved to 5-1, their best start since 2009. Last year their fifth victory came in their 21st game, and they finished with 100 losses. “Another win. Its incredible,” Fernandez said. “To be 5-1 is pretty amazing.” Fernandez (2-0) improved his career record at home to 11-0 despite being miffed about a high pitch count early in the game. “Hes such a great competitor,” manager Mike Redmond said. “He wasnt as sharp as Ive seen. But his stuff is so good, he still has the ability to make his pitches when he needs to.” Fernandez, who threw 108 pitches, left the game annoyed after throwing a wild pitch on a strikeout that allowed Alexi Amarista to reach base with two outs in the seventh. But he allowed only three hits and two walks. “I threw a lot of pitches — not what I wanted to do,” Fernandez said. “But we won. Thats what I care about.” Three relievers followed to complete a five-hitter. Giancarlo Stanton had two RBIs to increase his season total to 11, one more than teammate Casey McGehee, who began the day leading the NL. Four of the Marlins runs scored with two outs. “Theres a lot of good stuff going on right now,” Redmond said. Andrew Cashner (0-1) allowed only two runs in six innings, but the offensively challenged Padres reached a new low — for the first time, they were shut out. Theyve scored eight runs this season, worst in the majors, and have lost four in a row since a win on opening day. The Padres went 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position and are batting .108 (4 for 37) in those situations. “Collectively as a group, were not swinging the bats well,” manager Bud Black said. “We are in a team-wide situation that were not swinging. We dont have one guy thats swinging the bat well. Inversely, you look at the Marlins they have guys who are swinging well. And thats what happens. Its cyclical during the course of a season.” San Diegos best threat against Fernandez came when he walked two to load the bases with the score 0-0 in the third, but he escaped when Seth Smith hit into an inning-ending double play. The game drew a crowd of 35,188, including Miami Heat owner Micky Arison and president Pat Riley, who chatted briefly with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria. Stantons run-scoring single in the third gave the Marlins a 1-0 lead, which looked hefty with Fernandez on the mound. “We knew once we got that one run, we had a good chance,” catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia said. Notes: Marlins 2B Rafael Furcal (hamstring) is scheduled to report Monday to extended spring training in Jupiter, Fla., with rehabilitation assignments to follow. He likely wont be activated until April 20 at the earliest. … Padres RHP Casey Kelly was scheduled to pitch in a simulated game Saturday, but the workout was postponed at least two days because he was feeling discomfort in his surgically repaired elbow, Black said. The setback isnt believed to be significant. … Padres RHP Tyson Ross will get an extra day of rest before his next start Tuesday at Cleveland. Black said he made the move in part so the two left-handers in the rotation wouldnt pitch back to back. … Stanton has two homers in eight at-bats against RHP Ian Kennedy (0-1, 5.40), who is scheduled to start Sunday for the Padres. RHP Nathan Eovaldi (1-0, 3.00) will start for Miami. Mens Blue Rob Gronkowski Elite Jersey . DENVER — A two-week losing streak that included a tumultuous player-coach run-in during a game is over and the Denver Nuggets can finally exhale. Mike Brown Authentic Jersey . Ty Lawson scored 18 points, including a key 3-pointer with less than a minute to play, and the Nuggets snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 111-108 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night. “Its a wonderful feeling,” said Kenneth Faried, one of six Nuggets to score in double figures. “We got the monkey off our back. We cant put it back on.” Lawson also had 12 assists for the Nuggets, who played without Andre Miller. His two-game suspension stemming from a verbal clash with coach Brian Shaw during Wednesdays loss to the Philadelphia 76ers was rescinded by the club earlier Friday. But Miller, who lit into Shaw over his lack of playing time in the waning minutes of Wednesdays game in full view of fans and teammates, will remain away from the team until Monday under a newly issued personal leave. With frustration and uncertainty running rampant, Shaw held individual meetings with his players, and then had a group session with the team Thursday. “It was great,” guard Randy Foye said. “Coach called us in and just explained how much confidence he had in us, what he expected from us. He reassured us that hes with us 120 per cent. He told us that he needs us to be with him 120 per cent, and to believe in the game plan. Coach was awesome, explaining the things that he needed from us, and I think guys took that and ran with it.” Shaw said dealing with the fallout from the losing streak as well as the verbal clash with Miller was just part of the job. “Everything thats gone on in the last 48 hours is part of what you sign up for,” Shaw said. “Theres ups and downs. … But just allowing everybody to voice how they felt about the way things were going, assess themselves, assess us as a coaching staff, I think that just liberated everyone.” Faried and Timofey Mozgov added 16 points apiece for Denver and Nate Robinson had 15 points, including nine in the fourth quarter. Zach Randolph had 25 points to lead Memphis and Mike Conley added 23. Mike Miller narrowly missed a tying 3-pointer at the buzzer. “We didnt guard well,” Grizzlies coach David Joerger said. “They got the loose balls. They got the offensive rebounds and we didnt convert on fast breaks. We gave up too many easy baskets.” Trailing by 10 at the break, the Grizzlies got back in the game by opening the third quarter with a 13-4 run. Tony Allens layup little more than three minutes later put the Grizzlies in front 65-64, their first lead since the opening moments of the game. The Nuggets came back, with help from a three-point play by Evan Fournier and a 3-pointer by Robinson to take a 77-75 lead into the fourth quarter. The Nuggets extended their lead to 87-77 with 9:32 remaining, getting 3-pointers from Randy Foye and Robinson around a breakaway dunk by Faired. The Grizzlies made another push, getting seven consecutive points capped by Conleys 3-pointer to pull to 98-96 with 4:05 left. Robinson answered with a 3-pointer to give the Nuggets a bit of breathing room, but Tayshaun Prince drained a 3-pointer with a minute left, getting the Grizzlies within 107-104. Lawson rebuilt the Nuggets lead to six points with a clutch 3-pointer with 53.1 seconds left. Memphis scored the next four points, and with 4.1 seconds left fouled Robinson, who made one of two free throws with the Grizzlies rebounding and getting the ball with just over 3 seconds remaining. Millers attempt for a tying 3-pointer hit the back of the rim and bounced out. “They played desperate. They needed a win and they played like it,” Conley said. “They worked hard for it and they outworked us at the end.” NOTES: Lawson has had eight points-assists double doubles this season. … Mozgov has come off the bench to score in double figures 13 times this season. … Memphis outscored the Nuggets 27-19 in the third quarter, getting 12 of its points from the free throw line. … The Grizzlies attempted 38 free throws in all, making 29. Only Houston (44 on Nov. 16) shot more free throws against the Nuggets. … Randolph reached 25 points and 13 rebounds in a game for the third time this season. Roy Miller Authentic Jersey . Marian Gaborik had two goals and an assist and Martin Jones made just 17 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season as the Kings snapped a three-game losing skid with a 3-0 victory over the lowly Oilers on Thursday. Ruff went from holding back tears during a first-period tribute that culminated in a standing ovation, to feeling anxious after the Stars nearly squandered a three-goal lead. And finally he felt relief after Dallas hung on for a 4-3 victory over the Sabres on Monday night. “It was kind of a huge relief,” Ruff said. “I was really glad once the tribute was over. I wanted to get the game over with. A lot of good memories here.” Add another one to the list. The Sabres winningest coach came away a victor on the visitors bench after goalie Kari Lehtonen stopped the final 10 shots he faced to preserve the win. Tyler Seguin capped a three-goal, first-period outburst, and Jamie Benns goal midway through the second period stood up as the winner in Ruffs first game against his former team after his 16-year tenure in Buffalo ended with him being fired on Feb. 20. “Well, we couldnt just give it to him. We had to make sure he earned it,” Seguin said, with a smile referring to how close the Stars came to spoiling Ruffs homecoming. “No, it was a good win. And were moving on now.” Alex Goligoski and Vernon Fiddler also scored, and Erik Cole had two assists for the Stars (5-5-1), who snapped a four-game road losing streak. They also won for the first time in eight regular-season trips to Buffalo. Not including playoffs, Dallas had gone 0-5-2 at Buffalo since a 4-2 win on Oct. 7, 1997, which happened to be Ruffs first home game as Sabres coach. Matt Moulson scored twice his Sabres debut a day after being acquired in a trade that sent Thomas Vanek to the New York Islanders, and Buffalo (2-11-1) showed encouraging signs of progress despite matching its worst start to a season in franchise history. “Tonight, there were some of probably the most positive signs Ive seen in a long, long time,” said Steve Ott, who also scored for Buffalo. “Obviously, weve got too find the end result to the game. LaRoy Reynolds Authentic Jersey. But thats where were at. Theres no sugar-coating where we need to be, and our record indicates what it is.” The Sabres dropped to 0-7-1 at home, their longest home winless skid to open a season. The eight-game home drought is also the teams second-longest single-season skid, and four short of the franchise-low set in 1990-91. Another slow start proved too much to overcome. Buffalo has now been outscored 19-2 in the first period this season after Seguin put the Stars ahead 3-1 with 2:08 left in the opening frame. Benns goal 10:55 into the second period put the Stars up 4-1 and stood up as the game-winner. Seguin started the play by checking Ville Leino off the puck at the left circle. After a give-and-go with Cole, Seguin fed a pass through the crease to Benn who beat goalie Ryan Miller at the right post. Ott scored a power-play goal 1:59 later, and Moulson cut the Stars lead to 4-3 with 2:43 left in the second period, when he converted a loose puck in front. Aside from the victory, the highlight for Ruff was the warm welcome he received in Buffalo, where he still maintains a home. Ruff, who was hired by Dallas in June, received a loud and lengthy standing ovation during the first break, when the Sabres showed highlights of him as a player and coach. Ruff couldnt resist in glancing up the board, at times smiling and at another point biting his lip. Several fans brought Ruff jerseys and hand-drawn signs, among which read, “We love you Lindy,” and “Welcome home.” That was a distinct change for Ruff from the last time he was behind a bench in Buffalo. Ruff and the Sabres were booed off the ice following a 2-1 loss to Winnipeg on Feb. 19. Ruff hadnt set foot into the arena since holding a farewell news conference three days later. “The answer to that is yes, obviously,” Ruff said, referring to feeling a sense of closure. “I guess from the Buffalo side, it was great to see the emotion come back into the building as they started to come back. It turned out to be a darn good hockey game.” ’ ’ ’

WASHINGTON — Gavin Floyd had never heard the name of the piece of bone he broke inside his elbow. Manager Fredi Gonzalez didnt even try to pronounce it. But no matter how you say “olecranon,” it spells more bad news for the Atlanta Braves pitching staff. Floyd, recently recovered from elbow ligament replacement surgery, fractured the bony tip of the forearm bone that sticks out behind the elbow when he threw a curveball to lead off the seventh inning of Thursday nights 3-0 win over the Washington Nationals. “It was fine until that last pitch,” Floyd said. “I felt a pop.” Its the latest setback for an injury-riddled staff that lost starters Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy and reliever Cory Gearrin to Tommy John surgery during spring training, upending a major plank in the Braves plans to repeat as NL East champions. “Its been a tough one, ever since spring training,” third baseman Chris Johnson said. “But weve got to keep moving forward. Hopefully its nothing too bad and we can get him back soon.” Floyd will return to Atlanta on Friday to be examined by team doctors. The injury is so rare that the Braves couldnt provide even a guess of a timetable for his return. A similar injury ended the career of Detroit Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya in 2010. “In the big picture, I think hes going to be OK,” Gonzalez said. Floyd flexed his pitching arm awkwardly after the fateful pitch, which turned into a long foul ball by Jayson Werth down the left field line. After an examination by the Braves trainer on the mound, Floyd left the game for reliever Anthony Varvaro. “It was a weird spot,” Floyd said. “It was a little sore before, but not in the area that I had surgery.” Floyd (2-2) was making his ninth start since recovering from Tommy John surgery, but Gonzalez said the two injuries are not related. “What a shame,” Gonzalez said. “The guy comes all the way back from Tommy John. … I feel for the young man.” Floyd had been working on a two-hit shutout. He threw only 64 pitches, walking one and striking out six to drop his ERA to 2.65 in his first season with Atlanta. “Thats the best Ive seen him look,” Johnson said. “For those first six innings, he was dealing, he was nasty, so thats really a tough break.” Floyds career record is 72-72 over 11 seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox and Braves. “I felt like I was getting better and better, so its definitely disappointing,” Floyd said. “Definitely not what I envisioned to happen. I havent had any pain since the surgery.” The win moved the Braves within a half-game of the first-place Nationals atop the NL East as the division rivals opened a four-game series. Atlanta had been trending downward recently, losing eight of 12 entering the series. Johnson drove in all three of the Braves runs, two on a bases-loaded single in the fourth and another on a line drive that smacked reliever Jerry Blevins left knee in the eighth. Blevins was examined by the Nationals trainer but remained in the game to face one more batter. Jordan Zimmermann (5-4), coming off consecutive complete games, had his second straight hard-luck start for the Nationals. He lost 1-0 to Lance Lynn and the St. Louis Cardinals last Friday, and this time he allowed only two runs and seven hits through seven innings. Zimmermann has also had Tommy John surgery and naturally empathized with Floyd. “You never want another pitcher to get injured. I dont know what really happened,” Zimmermann said. “Obviously, it was bad enough for him to come out of the game. Hopefully, hell be all right.” NOTES: Evan Gattis extended his hitting streak to 18 games - the longest active streak in the majors and best ever by a Braves catcher. … Craig Kimbrel picked up his 21st save for the Braves, who have won 23 of 30 against the Nationals. … Nationals OF Bryce Harper took on-field batting practice before the game for the first time since undergoing thumb surgery last month. Hes expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment next week before re-joining the team in mid-July. . Nationals Manager Matt Williams said C Wilson Ramos (strained right hamstring) should be ready to re-join the team when eligible to come off of the DL June 26. Ramos will begin a rehab assignment over the weekend or the beginning of next week. . Braves OF Justin Upton was out of the starting lineup for the second straight game with an inner ear ailment causing dizziness, but he appeared as pinch-hitter in the eighth inning and grounded out. . The Braves placed RHP Pedro Beato on the DL with a sore right elbow. He was called up to the Braves earlier this week and pitched in relief both Tuesday and Wednesday. The Braves promoted RHP Juan Jaime from Triple-A Gwinnett, his first call-up to the majors. . The Italian came from behind to overtake Jarlinson Pantano in the final 50 metres and edge out Dario Cataldo on the line after a climb to the sanctuary of Oropa, the scene of Marco Pantanis memorable victory in 1999.GLENDALE, Ariz. — Blake Bortles rolled right, crashed into two defenders and floated a pass to an open receiver just before going down. The two players who had a beat on Central Floridas quarterback stayed on the ground, each pounding their hands into the turf as the receiver ran up the sideline. Out of reach all game, the Knights pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the bowl season by outlasting the nations top offensive team in a rousing BCS debut. Bortles stymied Baylor with his arm and legs while accounting for four touchdowns, Storm Johnson ran for three more scores and No. 15 Central Florida turned the highest-scoring Fiesta Bowl into a big-play party by outlasting the sixth-ranked Bears 52-42 on Wednesday night. “Theres not many outside of us who believe we had a chance, but we did and I think we showed what UCF football is all about,” Bortles said. Central Florida (12-1) wasnt given much of a chance at all, entering the game as a 17-point underdog. The Knights didnt care about the spread and certainly didnt back down from the big, bad Bears, racing past Baylor with an array of big plays. They took an early 14-point lead and kept rolling, piling up 556 total yards in the second-highest scoring BCS bowl ever. Bortles, the junior who could be weighing a jump to the NFL, was the catalyst, throwing for three touchdowns on 20-of-31 passing and running for 93 yards and another score. Rannell Hall accounted for some of the biggest plays, catching four passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson kept Baylor from ganging up on UCFs passing game, grinding out 124 yards on 20 carries. So much about having no shot. “Its a great win, a great feeling for everyone whos been through the program,” UCF coach George OLeary said. Known for its offence prowess, Baylor (11-2) had a hard time keeping up with the Knights. The Big 12 champions finished with 550 total yards, but were uncharacteristically undisciplined, getting 17 penalties for 135 yards. Bryce Petty tried to keep the Bears in it, running for three touchdowns while throwing for 356 yards and two more scores. Lache Seastrunk had some big runs in the first half and finished with 117 yards. None of it was enough the way UCF ran through Baylors defence. “We caught a football team that was hot,” Baylor coach Art Briles said. “They played extremely well early, got into us. We tried to play catch up the whole game, never could turn it around when it needed turning.” The Fiesta Bowl was the BCS coming-out party for Baylor and Central Florida before college footballls switch to a playoff system next season.dddddddddddd The Bears had been building toward this since Briles became coach in 2009, winding up his high-octane offence to lead the nation in scoring and churn out the second-most yards in FBS history. Central Florida had a slower rise under OLeary. The coach who was fired by Notre Dame five days after being hired for lying on his resume has built his reputation back up in Orlando, taking a program that went winless in 2004 to the inaugural American Athletic Conference title and automatic BCS berth this year. The matchup was projected to be like the 2011 Fiesta Bowl, when mighty Oklahoma rolled over Connecticut 48-20. The Knights werent listening. They opened with a 76-yard scoring drive capped by Johnsons tackle-breaking 11-yard touchdown run. Johnson scored again on UCFs next possession, this one on a 2-yard run. The early 14-0 lead was expected. The team leading wasnt. Baylor finally revved up its offence late in the first quarter, scoring on a 1-yard TD sneak by Petty and Central Florida looked as if it was ready to fall apart with turnovers on three consecutive plays. Baylor only turned one of those into points: a 30-yard pass from Petty to Levi Norwood. Petty followed Johnsons fumble with an interception in the end zone, just his third of the season. “Unfortunately, that was the turning point in the game,” Petty said. “We needed that to save momentum up for us, especially after a turnover. Turnovers in the red zone kill an offence.” Then came the spectacular plays, seemingly one after another. Hall darted and dashed through Baylors defence for a 50-yard touchdown on a screen pass, with help from Josh Reeses downfield block. Petty hurtled himself into the end zone, flipping over UCFs Brandon Alexander to cap a 13-yard run. That gave Baylor 659 points, breaking the NCAA record for a 13-game season set by Texas (652) in 2005. The momentum was gone shortly after, when Hall turned a swing pass into a 34-yard touchdown — assisted again by Reese — to put the Knights up 28-20 at halftime. Petty scored his third touchdown on 1-yard run in the third quarter and dashed in for the 2-point conversion to tie the game, but Central Florida still wouldnt back down. Bortles hit Breshad Perriman on a 10-yard touchdown pass and opened the fourth quarter by scoring on a 15-yard run to put the Knights up 42-28. Even after Baylor moved quickly for a 9-yard touchdown run by Glasco Martin, UCF had an answer, going up 49-35 on Johnsons 40-yard run through the heart of the Bears defence. ’ ’ ’

SAN ANTONIO — Brandon Kozun scored two power-play goals — including the winner 34 seconds into the overtime period - and assisted on another to lead the Toronto Marlies over the San Antonio Rampage 4-3 in American Hockey League action on Friday night. Jerry DAmigo tied the game with less than a minute to go in the third period to force the extra frame, and Tyler Biggs also scored for the North division-leading Marlies (26-14-4). T.J. Brennan and Spencer Abbott each contributed with two assists. Bobby Butler scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season, which included a short-handed goal in the first period, and Captain Greg Rallo added the other for San Antonio (17-22-7) at 4:38 of the third period. Marlies goaltender Garret Sparks made 26 saves for the win, while San Antonios Jacob Markstrom stopped 22 shots in the losing effort. Toronto was 2 for 9 on the power play while the Rampage failed to score on seven opportunities with the man advantage. Both teams showed a lack of discipline throughout the game as the Marlies racked up 45 penalty minutes on 14 infractions, and San Antonio took 16 penalties totalling 38 minutes. Torontos Jerred Smithson was dealt a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding at 16:15 of the second period. . Sotnikova trailed the 2010 Olympic champion by just .28 points after the short program on Wednesday, but had a brilliant free skate on Thursday. She earned a top score of 149. TORONTO — Former UFC champion Georges St-Pierre says his knee surgery went well and the rehab that looms ahead wont impact his decision on whether to return to mixed martial arts competition. The 32-year-old Montreal fighters left knee was operated on Wednesday in Los Angeles. He had reconstructive surgery on the other knee in December 2011. “I climbed Everest once before and Im going to climb it again — if I want to,” St-Pierre told The Canadian Press on Thursday. "Its not a problem for me. . . . Anyway I didnt plan to come back to competition before 2015. “And if I want to come back, when I want to come back, Ill do it again. Ill have all the tools to do it again. Im not going to be less strong or less athletic — Im going to be just better.” “Ill have two bionic knees,” he added. St-Pierre (25-2) vacated his 170-pound title in December, saying he needed a break from the sport. He made the announcement just weeks after winning a controversial split decision over Johny (Big Rigg) Hendricks at UFC 167. St-Pierre kept training and tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a recent workout. He was wrestling “a kid” and believes his knee caught in a mat and twisted. “It was like someone hurt his back by tying up his shoes.” Both knee operations were done by Los Angeles-based surgeon Neal ElAttrache, who looked after NFL star Tom Bradys knee in 2009. “I believe hes the best in the world,” said the fighter. St-Pierre plans to spend the next three months rehabbing in Los Angeles, using the same team as he did for the last operation. While he is on painkillers in the immediate wake of the surgery, he said he was in good spirits. “Perfect timing for me that I get hurt right now,” he said. “Thats the way to look at it.” He expects to resume training in five months, with full sparringg in six to seven months.dddddddddddd St-Pierre fought 11 months after his first surgery, defeating Carlos (The Natural Born Killer) Condit at UFC 154 in November 2012. His experiences after the first knee surgery will help him, he said. “I know the way now. Its going to be even better. But the thing is you cant go faster than your body heals. I dont want to go too fast.” He said the ACL damage in both knees was the same. The former champion believes the damage to his knees was bound to happen, given the pounding the ligaments have taken over the years. "Its like a rope. If you pull the rope every day as hard as you can — boom, boom, you pull it, pull it, pull it, pull it — one day its going to break. Its the force of pressure. If you hit a wall at home in the same spot every day when you pass by, at one point youre going to make a hole in it. “And thats what happened with my ACL. Ive been training martial arts since I was nine years old and Im a very explosive guy.” He plans to add an expert in the science of mobility to his entourage, to correct his movements — from running to jumping. “Its never going to happen again,” he said. “The pressure will be on my bone and my muscle, not on my ligaments.” St-Pierre says he has been told that the vast majority of ACL injuries are preventable. “They happen over the course of time because people do the wrong moves,” he said. If or when St-Pierre comes back to the UFC, he will do so as a welterweight. He noted Hendricks, who went on to win the 170-pound title, weighed 215 pounds when the two did their press tour. GSP was 190 pounds. He also reiterated that drug testing in the sport had to improve before he came back. “Its not personal to one fighter,” he said. “Its personal to me. Its something that has to be done, I believe.” ’ ’ ’

SALT LAKE CITY — The Denver Nuggets have been struggling to close out games, so theyve resorted to just trying to win quarters. Andre Miller, the oldest player on the team, showed his teammates how its done. Miller scored nine of his season-high 15 points in the fourth period and the Nuggets defeated the winless Utah Jazz 100-81 on Monday night. “Weve been struggling, just like the Jazz,” the 37-year-old point guard said. “But we talked about just taking one quarter at a time. We remembered that tonight and held them down in the fourth quarter and closed it out.” Ty Lawson had 17 points and Kenneth Faried added 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Nuggets, who outscored the Jazz 30-13 in a dominant fourth quarter. “Andre stepped it up, like hes been doing for years,” Lawson said. “He was getting mismatches, even taking on bigs. He knows how to orchestrate the offence. He was getting himself a good shot or he was kicking it out to one of us for a good shot.” Utah dropped to 0-8 and remained the only team in the NBA without a victory. Miller hit a 3-pointer — he hasnt missed in four attempts this season — and Faried added an emphatic dunk to power a 10-1 run that gave Denver an 82-74 lead with 7:13 to play. “When things get tough, you just need to start working harder. We finally found a rhythm somehow,” Miller said. John Lucas III drove for a layup but Miller responded with a pair of nifty baskets in the lane, and the Jazz couldnt get within nine the rest of the way. “The fourth quarter has been our Achilles heel,” said Lawson, who also had 10 assists. “We have been letting other teams do what they want. We have turnovers and give up offensive rebounds. Tonight we took it to them and got the crowd out of the game.” Gordon Hayward had 22 points but didnt score in the final period. Derrick Favors added 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Jazz, who extended their worst start to a season since moving to Utah in 1979. “This is the NBA. We cant look for excuses. Its not going to get any easier,” coach Ty Corbin said after his team played its seventh game in 10 days. The Nuggets had the fourth-best record (57-25) in the NBA last season, but a fourth straight first-round playoff exit ushered in new coach Brian Shaw after George Karl was fired. Weary of Denvers lethargic play this season, Shaw threatened to sit any of his players who fail to give maximum effort. The Nuggets responded with their finest quarter of the season in the fourth, even without starting centre JaVale McGee, who has a stress fracture in his leg. Shaw liked what he saw. “Defensively, we contested their shots. We scored on the offensive end in the fourth quarter probably for the first time all year, and we had them struggling to score points,” he said. Fighting a bad hamstring, Faried looked to be his lively self until he got hit in the throat during a mad scramble for the ball in the fourth. He put his head in a towel and ran to the locker room. He later returned to the arena, but the Nuggets were already coasting to their first road win. “He played with a lot of energy, hit the boards, scored with a nice shooting touch when he got the ball inside,” Shaw said. Denver outrebounded the Jazz 52-35 and outmuscled their big frontline, outscoring Utah 48-36 in the paint. Behind Haywards 18 points in the first half, the Jazz led by as many as 10 before Denver erased the deficit and pulled ahead 46-45 at the break. In the fourth quarter the Jazz missed layups, let balls go through their legs and got lost on defensive rotations — all reasons the team has yet to win a game. Utah shot 4 for 18 in the final period. “Too many turnovers, too many offensive rebounds, wide-open layups. Yeah, Id say a lot went wrong,” Hayward said. The Jazz have a number of issues but foremost is their poor shooting — a league-worst 40 per cent from the field and 23 per cent on 3-pointers. Utah went 4 for 17 from beyond the arc against Denver. NOTES: McGee, who started the first five games this season, will be out indefinitely after X-rays on Sunday revealed a stress fracture in his left tibia. … The Jazz wore road navy uniforms and red-white-and-blue socks to honour the military on Veterans Day. … Utah rookie Trey Burke, who broke his finger in the preseason, has been cleared for solo drills but wont be re-evaluated until Nov. 25 for full team practice. Bernier was sharing goaltending duties with James Reimer during Fridays drills at the Mastercard Centre, while Drew MacIntyre watched from the corner of the ice. Centre Dave Bolland was also on the ice, skating on a regular line with Mason Raymond and David Clarkson for the first time in almost three weeks. Out for 56 games following an ankle injury, Bolland has had a rocky recovery, having last participated in a full practice on March 2 before suffering a setback. Following Fridays skate, head coach Randy Carlyle said a decision on thhe availability of Bernier and Bolland for Saturdays contest against the Montreal Canadiens will be made on game day.dddddddddddd The 25-year-old Bernier was on the ice for the teams optional skate on Wednesday, where he did side-to-side and up-and-down movements while taking some shots in his 25 minutes on the ice. The injury goes back to the teams 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings last week. Bernier took himself out of the game in the first period and has not played since. Reimer has been in goal in his absence, posting three straight losses at the hands of Washington, Detroit and Tampa Bay. Bernier has a 25-16-7 record with a 2.64 goals-against average, a .925 save percentage and a shutout in his first season with Toronto. ’ ’ ’

The Pittsburgh Steelers have created some cap space, signing two veterans, safety Troy Polamalu and tight end Heath Miller, to new three-year contracts keeping the popular players with the team through 2016. Polamalu has spent his entire 11-year career with the Steelers, being named a Pro Bowler eight times, an All-Pro four times, and the 2010 Defensive Player of the Year. Miller is also a career Steeler, being selected by the team in the 2005 NFL Draft. Miller is third in franchise history in receptions (466), fifth in receiving yards (5,273) and fifth in touchdowns (40). Toews added two assists as both he and Sharp finished with four points. Michal Handzus and Kris Versteeg also scored for the Blackhawks, whose league-leading offence powered them to a second straight win and improved them to 7-1-1 in their past nine. Colorados Paul Stastny and Gabriel Landeskog beat Chicago rookie Antti Raanta, who finished with 16 saves in his eighth straight start — all since Blackhawks top goalie Corey Crawford suffered a lower-body injury on Dec. 8 Sharp, who celebrated his 32nd birthday on Friday, has 21 goals this season and 10 in his past nine games. He scored twice in Chicagos previous game, a 5-2 win over New Jersey on Monday. But more impressive was how he assisted on Toews second goal of the game against the Avalanche. That score put Chicago ahead 5-0 midway through the second. Colorado leading scorer Matt Duchene was bearing down on Raanta on a breakaway. But Sharp caught up to Duchene just as he was about to shoot, hooked his stick and stole the puck. Sharp then turned deep in his zone and wheeled a pass to Toews down the ice on right wing. Toews moved in, faked and beat a helpless Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Giguere allowed seven goals through two periods on the Blackhawks first 24 shots. Semyon Varlamov relieved him in the third and stopped all 13 he faced. Patrick Kane, Chicagos leading scorer, had an assist to extend his point streak to a career-high 13 games. Kane has seven goals and 15 assists in his streak, and at least one point in all but one of his past 25 games. The Blackhawks took charge in the second half of the first period and led 3-0 after 20 minutes.dddddddddddd Sharp opened the scoring at 12:27 of the first to cap a sprint from the Colorado blue line. He took a pass from Duncan Keith, gained a step on Avalanche defenceman Jan Hejda then fired a low shot past Giguere from 10 feet. Toews made it 2-0 with 1:57 left in the first when he swept in a rebound from the right side of the net after Marian Hossa had skated through the crease with the puck. Sharps second goal, a power-play score 1:15 later, extended it to 3-0. He connected from the top of the right circle with Andrew Shaw screening Giguere. Sharp completed his hat trick and made it 4-0 just 27 seconds into the second. His backhand attempt on a rebound of Niklas Hjalmarssons shot from the point struck Giguere, but continued into the net. Toews second goal made it 5-0 at 8:21. Stastny backhanded in a rebound of his own close-in shot at 9:07 to get Colorado on the board at 5-1. Set up by Kanes nifty pass, Handzus tapped in a goal with 6:30 left in the second to make it 6-1. Versteeg added to the rout when he whipped in a shot from the slot with 2:12 left in the period. Landeskog scored on a breakaway at 7:37 of the third to complete the scoring. NOTES: Chicagos Duncan Keith had three assists in the game and leads NHL defenceman with 33. … Sharp has four multiple-goal games this season. … Duchene, just 22, played in his 300th NHL game. … Toews ended a five-game goal drought. … According to Elias Sports Bureau, Kane is the first NHL player to record multiple points streaks of more than 10 games in the same season since 2005-06, when Jaromir Jagr did it. … Colorado D Cory Sarich was a scratch. … The United Center crowd of 22,201 was a season high. ’ ’ ’

NEW YORK — Nate (The Great) Marquardt says he failed his medical for a weekend UFC fight because of high testosterone levels. But the veteran mixed martial arts fighter says he was under doctors treatment for low testosterone and that he got off the medication in question when his testosterone numbers looked high going into Sundays main event in Pittsburgh. “At the end of the day he just didnt make the (permissible) number,” Marquardts manager, Lex McMahon told “The MMA Hour.” “He has nothing to hide,” he added. Marquardt, who was cut by the UFC after failing the medical, said he should have taken action to monitor his testosterone levels better. “I messed up. There are things I should have done,” said the emotional fighter who apologized to the fans. “I feel so bad for everyone. I hope they can forgive me,” he added. Marquardt said he went to the doctor last August after feeling sluggish, awful, and irritable. “I knew something was wrong. I felt like I was overtraining, when that wasnt the case.” The prognosis was a low testosterone level. “He recommended for me to go on hormone replacement therapy,” he told “The MMA Hour.” Marquardt said he told the UFC and started the treatment - even though he was hesitant. He fought Dan Miller in New Jersey in March after applying for a therapeutic use exemption, which state officials granted. But they asked him to take three more drug tests after going off treatment for eight weeks following the fight- to determine if the treatment was needed. A doctor then reviewed the results and confirmed the low testosterone levels, Marquardt said. He went on a more aggressive treatment three weeks ahead of the Story fight. Two weeks in, he took a blood test that showed high levels. His doctor told him to go off the treatment in the hope that the level would return to normal in time for the fight. “We knew that I had to be within range,” said Marquardt, calling it one of the most stressful weeks in his life. “Obviously I should have requested testing earlier. Thats one of the biggest mistakes I made.” Tests showed the levels were going down but a subsequent test weigh-in day Friday was above the range permitted by the state athletic commission, which suspended him. That immediately drew the ire of the UFC. “Not only is he out of this fight and out of the main event on (the card on) Versus, he will no longer be with the UFC,” UFC president Dana White said in a video posted on Twitter. Marquardt had been due to face Rick (The Horror) Story, who had replaced the injured Anthony (Rumble) Johnson. The 32-year-old Marquardt (34-10-2 including 10-4 in the UFC) had been due to make his debut at 170 pounds after campaigning as a middleweight. He isnt the first fighter to run afoul of state commissions due to high testosterone levels. Middleweight Chael Sonnen was suspended in California after failing a UFC 117 drug test last summer. He argued he had been prescribed a testosterone replacement treatment but was still suspended. And Marquardt was suspended in 2005 by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after testing positive for high levels of nandrolone, an anabolic steroid. Marquardt blamed it on an over-the-counter supplements and served a five-month suspension. Charlotte outscored Cleveland 32-17 in the third quarter to go ahead 72-59 and pulled away. ORLANDO, Fla. — The New York Knicks have been looking for any kind of continuity they can find as injuries and losses have continued to pile up this season. The injury bug isnt done biting them just yet, but they remained healthy just long enough Monday night to get a much-needed victory. Carmelo Anthony had 19 points before leaving the game with a sprained left ankle in the third quarter, but the Knicks were able to stave off a fierce charge and hang on for 103-98 victory over the Orlando Magic. New York led by as many as 25 points before having its lead cut all the way to a point in the fourth quarter. Beno Udrih hit six straight free-throws in the final 26 seconds to help preserve the win, which was the Knicks eighth straight over the Magic. It also was a big win for embattled Knicks coach Mike Woodson, whose job security has been called into question in recent weeks. “All teams make runs and they made a helluva run, but I applaud our team because we withstood the run,” Woodson said. “We made plays. It was a total team effort. After losing two starters, I applaud our guys.” Along with losing Anthony, the Knicks also saw point guard Raymond Felton go down late in the fourth quarter with a groin injury. He was just making his return Monday after a six-game absence with a strained left hamstring. Woodson said the status of both players will be evaluated Tuesday. New York plays Oklahoma City on Christmas Day. J.R. Smith added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Felton had 13 points and four assists before his injury. Afterward Smith said his teams injury issues are bothersome as they try to get back their season back on track. “Im concerned (about Melo), but Im not as worried about him as Im worried about Ray, the way he came back and then to go down again. Its tough,” Smith said. “Hes our point guard, for sure.” Arron Afflalo led Orlando with 26 points. Glen Davis added 20 and Jameer Nelson 17. The Magic have lost three straight and 11 of their last 13. Orlando coach Jacque Vaughn applauded his teams resolve in the second half. “We responded tto their hit in our face,” Vaughn said.dddddddddddd “It took us a whole half, but then we responded by coming out and realizing that its OK to hit first. I think we were the aggressors in the second half.” The Knicks seemed to be cruising in the third quarter with a 25-point lead before Anthony went down with about seven minutes left in the quarter. It helped stretch a Magic 27-8 run that cut New Yorks lead to just 76-70. The Knicks carried an 84-76 edge into the fourth, but the Magic kept attacking as New York began to settle for jump shots. A tip-in by Jason Maxiell cut it all the way down to a point with 8:28 to play in the game, prompting Woodson to call a timeout. New York responded, and got a mini-spurt that pushed its lead back to 89-83. It was short-lived, as the Magic got within 91-89 on a jumper by Nelson. Orlando had a chance to tie it on a fast break following a Knicks miss, but Tobias Harris layup attempt was blocked by Smith. Felton got tangled up with another player during the play and limped off the floor. The Knicks steadied, and got a steal and layup by Iman Shumpert that gave them a 97-91 cushion. “They tightened up once they seen the lead completely evaporate,” Afflalo said. “They did a good job of once we cut it to one or two, not allowing us to get over the hump.” Felton made his presence felt in the first few minutes of action with a pair of jumpers and assist on a Tyson Chandler. It helped provided a jolt for the Knicks, who shot 52 per cent in the first half. A big half it turned out the Knicks would need down the stretch. “(Orlando) played very good in that third quarter,” Knicks forward Andrea Bargnani said. "Youve got to give them credit, they made some very tough shots so they came back. We made the right plus at the end. “The team was upset when Carmelo went out, but we got over the shock.” Notes: The Magic are now 0-14 this season when an opponent scores 100 or more points. … Anthony picked up his third technical foul of the season for arguing with referee Ed Malloy in the third quarter. ’ ’ ’

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Spencer Levin took the Phoenix Open lead with a hard-charging approach. He figures thats the best way to stay there, too. “You dont want to get too tentative or play away from shots,” Levin said. “If you want to play well and make birdies you cant do that, so Im just going to try and stay as aggressive as I can the next two days.” Levin holed out from a greenside bunker for eagle on the par-4 17th and shot an 8-under 63 on Friday to reach 14 under. He had a five-stroke lead when the delayed second round was completed Saturday morning at TPC Scottsdale. “Hopefully, I can just keep trying to believe in myself and just keep trying to make my swing, and well see what happens,” Levin said. “Im going to give it my best shot. It should be fun. Im looking forward to it.” On 17, Levin took one last drag on his cigarette, stamped it out in the rough and climbed into the bunker behind the 17th green. He set up quickly, took a quick glance at the hole and splashed out. The ball landed about 10 feet from the hole, bounced twice and rolled into the cup for an eagle-2. “That was pretty cool,” Levin said. Harrison Frazar was 11 under with three holes left Friday when play was suspended because of darkness. He had two bogeys Saturday morning to drop to 9 under. “There toward the end it was getting kind of tough to control the ball and to see it,” said Frazar, the St. Jude Classic winner last year. “The temperature dropped, so the ball flies a little differently.” Webb Simpson, the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 6, was third at 8 under along with tour rookie John Huh. Simpson shot a 69 in the last group to finish play on No. 18, and Huh had a 66. “That was probably the darkest Ive ever played,” Simpson said. “I couldnt really see anything.” Kyle Stanley was 7 under after a 66 as he tries to rebound from a devastating loss last week. On Sunday at Torrey Pines, he made a triple-bogey 8 on the final hole of regulation and lost to Brandt Snedeker in a playoff. The 27-year-old Levin, remembered for a hole-in-one and 13th-place tie in the 2004 U.S. Open at Shinnecock while still in school at New Mexico, is winless on the PGA Tour. He came close last year, losing a playoff to Johnson Wagner in the Mayakoba Golf Classic. At Torrey Pines, Levin had a share of the first-round lead after a 62, but followed with rounds of 76, 73 and 72 to tie for 43rd. “Last week I played great the first round and didnt play well the rest of the week, but overall I think my game is getting better,” Levin said. Fan favourite Phil Mickelson finished off a 70 at dusk to reach 4 under. He had a bogey and a double bogey in a front-nine 38, then made four birdies — the last drawing the loudest cheers of the day on the amphitheatre par-3 16th - on the back nine. “The front nine, I dont know what to say. I mean, it was just terrible,” said Mickelson, the former Arizona State star who won the tournament in 1996 and 2005. “I was able to kind of self-correct it a little bit for the back to shoot 4 under and turn it around. Its not what I was hoping for going into the day, but Im looking forward to playing the weekend and seeing if I can light it up.” Defending champion Mark Wilson, coming off a victory two weeks ago in the Humana Challenge, was 3 under after a 69. Levin was one of 42 players who finished the first round Friday morning after play was suspended because of darkness Thursday. He hit his first shot of the day to 3 feet to set up a birdie on the par-3 seventh and parred the final two holes for a 65 that left him a stroke behind first-round leaders Jason Dufner and Ryan Palmer. Levin then birdied the first two holes in the second round, holing 20 and 15-foot putts. He hit to 2 feet to set up a birdie on the fifth, added a 15-footer on No. 12 and got up and down from behind the green on the par-5 13th for another birdie. The key shots came on the par-5 15th after he hit his approach into the water and had his ball roll into a sand-filled divot on the penalty drop. He hit to 10 feet, made the putt to save par, then birdied the par-3 16th and eagled the par-4 17th. “That was huge,” Levin said. "I took a drop and the ball rolled a good step and a half into this sand divot. I didnt even see it. Some weird thoughts were going through my head. I actually hit a great shot. I hit it out of the sand divot to about 10 feet. I was just trying to get it on the green. “So, the momentum from being in the sand divot to making a par and then going 2-2 on the next two holes was huge. It could have gone the other way.” On the 16th, he hit a little draw pin-high to 8 feet and made the putt to the delight of the noisy fans who chanted his name before he teed off. He then holed the bunker shot after driving over the green on the 335-yard 17th and closed with a par on 18, missing a tricky, downhill 10-footer. “That was a fast one,” Levin said. “I didnt really get it started on line, but I just nudged it and it still went a foot and a half by. But that was a tough pin because if you get left of it, its off the green, so I hit a good second shot.” Thirty-four players were unable to finish the second round Friday after frost delayed the start for an hour for the second straight day. His apology came before a pregame ceremony in which the team honoured its 2004 team that won Bostons first World Series championship since 1918. “I realize that I behaved bad in Boston,” Ramirez said. “The fans were great. I also played great when I was here, but I realized I behaved bad. I apologize for that. Im a new man.” He said he has been attending church for almost a year. During seven-plus seasons with Boston, Ramirez hit .312 with 274 homers and 868 RBIs before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2008. While with Boston, he often jogged to first base and after fly balls, had a physical altercation with travelling secretary Jack McCormick and exhibited quirky behaviour that led to the phrase, “Manny being Manny.” Ramirez was the last of more than 30 members of the 2004 team introduced before Bostons game against the Atlanta Braves. He was the MVP of that World Series sweep over St. Louis. He threw the ceremonial first pitch, but Johnny Damon cut it off, rolled to the ground and relayed the ball to catcher Jason Varitek behind the plate. It mimicked a play in 2004 when Damon fielded a ball off the centre-field wall and threw toward third base. But Ramirez inexplicably dove and cut it off rather than let it go through, allowing Baltimores David Newhan to get an inside-the-park homer. Ramirez received a warm reception as he entered the field through a door on the left field scoreboard in the Green Monster. He occasionally would use the door tto go into the cramped area behind the scoreboard during pitching changes.dddddddddddd On Wednesday night, the crowd chanted “Manny, Manny,” when he was introduced and walked toward the infield. Current designated hitter David Ortiz is the only Red Sox player remaining from the 2004 team. “Now that I see David and the rest of the guys, I wish I could have done better,” Ramirez said. “I wish it turned out better than it did.” Now he hopes to make a good impression on players in the Cubs farm system. “Im looking forward to that,” Ramirez said. “I can go over there and meet those kids and teach them what to do in the field and what not to do off the field. Its going to be a blast. Were going to have fun out there.” Other players from the 2004 team who received loud ovations where pitchers Pedro Martinez and Curt Schilling and outfielder Kevin Millar. Schilling, who has skipped other Fenway Park events this season while being treated for cancer, was accompanied by his son Gehrig as they walked in together from left field. Keith Foulke, who was on the mound for the final out of the 2004 World Series, carried the championship trophy as he made his way to the infield. “You work your entire career and you always dream of being on top for at least once,” Foulke said before Wednesdays game. “Were honoured to be a part of something that, unfortunately, had been set up by a lot of failure. Were proud to be a part of it, Ill tell you that.” Ramirez appeared with a haircut in which the sides of his head were shaved, leaving hair only on top. “Its Manny,” Foulke said, with a laugh. ’ ’ ’
